TBH I think alot of your viewers(including myself) are first time 404 users. Start from the beginning 🤣 Definitely looking forward to seeing it paired with the MPC!
Re: 4:20 seconds in. If you have the samples on the card next to each other you can load them all at once by holding down shift and selecting multiple with the encoder. It will place them on the empty pads after the pad you choose. Then you can use the swap functionality rearrange them how you like.
I know that this video came out 2 years ago but I would like to make a quick update! Roland has officially confirmed that the SP-404 Mark 2 can take up to 1TB SD cards on Version 3.00 and higher.
From what I hear, the loading time on startup is very long and is way more space than you'd ever need anyway. But I was also super excited when I read it could fit that much data
One of the best tutorials I’ve found, THANK YOU! I love that the 404 can be totally stand-alone, but I just downloaded the editor/librarian app for my studio Mac so I can manage and load an entire show’s worth of samples into my 404, and it streamlines things SO MUCH. Total game changer. Highly recommend it.
Thanks for this! After having the SP404 MK2 since the spring, and after watching some tutorial videos, I followed this “first beat” video to make my own first beat last night, while on the train. I ended up using Skip Back to record an old school soul ballad via RUclips from my iPad, choped up the portion I wanted to use and saved them to pads, then dug through my sample library to add a drum loop. It was not the greatest thing, but it was my first beat and it felt great to know I could do it. This was a big help for inspiration, so much appreciated!
Thanks for these tips! I just got my first sampler - the SP-404 MKII - and it's a little overwhelming, but videos like yours go a long way toward reducing panic and getting started.
I just ordered my Roland, and I'm ready to get these beats off. Thanks for actually going through all the things it takes to begin. I can't wait. Blessings to you brother!!🙏🏿🙌🏿
Just picked up a 404. Out of all the video tutorials I have watched yours was the most helpful. I like how you broke things down into segments. Nice flow. Thank you Ave!
Hey man, I just wanted to give you credit for the WAY you explain everything. I have found that one of my biggest deterrents is the terminology as a beginner. But not only do you show HOW to get to certain screens, you teach how to navigate, and explain what each option does. And that is something that MANY MPC/Roland SP 404 II/etc tutorials on RUclips lack. Thanks for the hard work 🥃
This video has been a life saver honestly! Had my mk2 for two days, I just keep rewatching the video with different samples each time to get the brain remembering how to do it! Thank you so much dude! Super informative! Would love a tips on recording your beats to your daw with effects and stuff
THANKS A LOT
Thanks brother! Great job taking us step by step. I just got mine today and thought my joint was messed up when I turned it on, the delay and then the Japanese letters followed by Mark 2. I couldn’t find any videos where people started like you did, from simply turning the screen on and explaining what you see. And you’d be surprised how many people don’t emphasize the 32gb limit for sd cards. Again, great job brother, very in depth, I appreciate you.
This guy is one of that guy who is brake down properly the things all the others is just messing around We need more videos like this teaching people pls 👌👏🏻
Great beginner tutorial I was ready to check this thing out the window coming from an MPC/Maschine/x0x style and Elektron background and trying to get into this I’m like bro there’s no play button there’s no tempo knob wtf is going on and the manual jumps all over the place and doesn’t touch on the first thing I want to do until the end of the manual which is load my own samples. This is day 1 with the SP for me so we’ll see how I get on with it with some time but this video helped me get into the basics since it’s so different than MPC/traditional drum sequencers I’m used to
Bro, I just sold my mpc one and was debating on whether or not to get a new one or get the 404, I’m comforted by the fact that you make videos for both 😂
I have been using primarily garage band and it lets you do a lot of the things this does but a bit more complicated, I am impressed with this machine, I look forward to getting one to take my skills to the next level. on a side note could you do a video showing how to add additional parts for like a bridge or chorus or a change up
I had a NA Maschine in the past and was thinking about getting the new + version. This 404 looks dope though, and seems to do everything I would need at a much better price!
I found using the free Roland editor greatly simplify my life to load samples the way I like them setup and also to configure a sample as a one off or loop for playback. Now I need to learn the pattern and sequencing part and how to sample external gear to it. Firmware v3 adds a whole slew of new features making a great sampler even better.
Thanks for this video Ave! A lot of people wll be revisiting it, when units arrive. I still prefer the MPC workflow, but I might just combine the Live2 with the SP404mk2 just to get these great performance effects. Best of both worlds?
I went back and commented for a second time on your original 404MK2 video. I originally said I would wait a while before getting the 404MK2. Less than a week later I pre-ordered 🤣. Some of that was because the Boss 505MK2 won't be out untill 2022 and that was going to be my next piece of gear..actually the hype was so big on the 404 it affected me.
Man this thing is a learning curve. I anxious to learn it though. Thank you for this video. It was my first tutorial and I look forward to learning more.
Yeah ,that was nice short video ,think about Roland ,but u know I got mpc one ,and i wanna just try different style groove box ,that effects so dope Thanks
I tried the new sp404 MK2 … it’s abit confusing on the bus effects . However I think it’s a good side kick to add to my akai mpc live 2 for voice over recording …. That’s my plan
Great vid. Brand new to the sp404mk2. Could recommend some good packs for drums? Lofi/old-school type drumskkicks...snares etc/samples? Lots of practice ahead.
More videos are coming! What features should I cover next???
Can you compare the sound of the new LoFi effect to the sound of the LoFi button on the old SX?
TBH I think alot of your viewers(including myself) are first time 404 users. Start from the beginning 🤣 Definitely looking forward to seeing it paired with the MPC!
Different subgenre of hip hop with tricks that are useful to achieve the sound of said subgenre with the device
Maybe some people would appreciate to see interactions with other devices or software.
iOS sampling, midi synch with external gear etc.
What is resampling..How to resample.. what is it good for.. put it into practice 🙏🏾🙏🏾

@Jeff Neria thank you. That’s a time saver!
Thanks for the info
where can i get samples and sounds to load on the sd card??
@@rafybates7713 Are you looking for a website for samples or just sounds in general?

Please do a video on midi sync with external instruments we need that homie

You can press shift + gate to apply or remove gate to/from the entire bank. Might not always want to do that, but I think it’s a common need.
good input!

I've just got one this Christmas. I'm a year behind you, how are you finding it. Do you still use it?
I haven't touched mine in months. I guess samplers are not my cup of tea.@@davidmaskew
@@Captain_Nightsporecan you give it to me 😊

At least it’s better now
good tutorial, thanks : ) i just switched from Korg Electribe 2s to Roland SP-404 mk2
Had to return to this vid! Got my MK2 coming on Monday. Cant wait to get stuck in

resample your patterns in real time and you got a song mode
Resampling + Chaining = best of both worlds
