I really think you should switch the 4 ton cargo rack with a prospector limpet controller. It's easier to mine for profit when you can skip over worthless rocks and get to the good stuff. You also might want to switch the 8 ton rack for another 3A collector limpet controller, which will let you pick up mined fragments a lot faster. This means less waiting around at the asteroid, and you'll be making money faster as well.

With the ability to add certain materials to an ignore list, controlling the refinery and being able to just pick up the most profitable materials makes mining more efficient.

I've been mining for a while now. I thoroughly enjoy the peace, serenity and the views. It's certainly not the fastest way to make cash but, making fast cash isn't my expectation or goal in the game. The escape from my real world grind is my motivation.

Type 10 is my favourite by far with a great view, tanky hull and loads of weapons and utilities. I've also used a Corvette (also strong and dangerous) and a Cutter (good shields and loads of weapons and fast for escaping) Great guide o7!!!

I just bought a type 6 to do some cargo runs. I am a newbie. I just have me sidewinder and this brand spanking new type 6. I have been playing for about 7 days now. I am loving it although the learning curve is steep. I have been doing extraction sites in me sidewinder and made about 5 million credits in a few days. Thank you for the video, as I found it very helpful. There is so much to this game and I love it. It is kind of like EVE Online but in first person. Eve is way deeper and more complex, but this gives it a run.
Thanks again for the video, but if you would put a “beginners” label on the title, that would be great.

I have mined with a type 9 to unlock the engineer. It works well but is really slow in moving from one asteroid to the next.
5 collector limpets and 2 medium mining lasers worked well, though more limpets are adviced.
2 prospecting limpets allow to tag 2 asteroids at the same time and look for the good asteroids faster.
Ignore the low value minerals on the targets tab and your limpets won't even bother collecting it, and the refinery will auto-dump the ignored minerals as well.
I left the station with half of my cargo hold of limpets. A little more would be better, 60 to 70% would be good.
Don't forget to look for high prices to sell your cargo and make as much profit as possible.

Nice video for beginners - although I'm not sure why you couldn't sacrifice one of the smaller cargo racks for a prospector limpet controller - you'd still be able to lug 60+ limpets, and by the time I fill an asp I'm ready for a break anyway! My mining asp had one and it was good enough to unlock Selene and Bill!

Recommendation on the Power Plant: A rate it, but adjust the size to be just enough to cover your power needs.
The ability to ignore heat can be very useful when dropping into multi-star systems!

Good weapon for miners are the mines. If you're trying to outrun a pirate, its the one time they will be directly following your tracks. The shock mine i beleive also does additional impulse, meaning it can throw the pirate silly. So either they fly indirectly, or get blown around. Should give any miner time to get out of dodge or find the po-po

The only part I differ on here, is I would take the prospector limpet over the 4 ton cargo. Yes the extra cargo is awesome. But the ability to mine specifically what you’re looking for vs lots of wasted time on random highlighted asteroids is pretty nice.

If you are a noobie, run the Road To Riches exploration trip. It's a MUST. All you need is a hauler. It will take you a couple hours maybe, but it's the quickest way to 20-30mil, and then you can get you a keelback or AspX and go mining for the good money. Or if you are just too stubborn to do that, then get a Type 6 and haul some stuff. That's what I did before I discovered Road To Riches, and I made like 15mil in 2 days, although it was longer days. So dont be stubborn and just do Road To Riches. Look up the videos on here. Update: After you do Road To Riches, buy a Dolphin and go to Robigo Mines and do passenger missions to Sirius Atmospherics until you can buy a Python, and then keep doing Robigo missions and make 25+mil in 12 minutes.. Mining sucks currently.

So much better to mine efficiently, since you don't need A rate collectors or a 4A refinery. You can mine just fine with D rated collectors (your mine fragments will be a most 500mt away, unless you are doing something wrong), saving weight and power with that, and with a 2A refinery (you just need to vent some bins before each asteroid, but don't touch Platinum, Painite or Paladium) you save the class 5 slot for a bigger collector, allowing you to mine so much faster.

Very basic mining. 👍 I more Seismic/Abrasion/Subsurface Mining. Takes a bit more time, but larger payout from those hotspots. Plus watching the Seismic explosion is epic!

This is a beginner's guide. A beginner is not going to have the squillion credits to buy a type-10 and outfit it. And sad to say, they ain;t gonna make those credits by mining either.

I’m struggling to understand the balance of collector limpet controller and refineries.
If you have a cutter, and 1b credit, what would be the absolute best mining load out?
Is cutter the best miner?

4A refinery is the best there is. The amount of collector limpets is hard to estimate and also depends on how fast you can break of chunks of asteroid. I suggest trying 3 medium mining lasers with a big power distributer and 6-7 collectors. If your collectors can't keep up, get some more.

In the new update I think the type 9 for mass mining is the best idea or the python for motherlode hunting, it's a real game changer!

Mining is far too unrewarding for the amount of time it takes. The novelty soon wears off when you realise the mind-numbing repetetive nature of shooting rocks, collecting rocks, micro-managing the refinery/bins manually (amazingly enough, in the 30th century, AI is still not good enough to run a program that says "ignore such and such material") - gets you about a tenth of the credits you get for, say, trade or recovery/passenger missions for the same time spent
In the ED universe gold and platinum has become amazingly cheap, since you sell it by the ton. I guess that's 'realistic' but there's a reason most players don't mine. It's much too big a time sink for the credits it gets you. Found that out tha hard way.
