I went on a ride in Blackpool some 40 odd years ago, I think it was called "The Grand National". Strapped to a plastic horse, was going hell for leather over a bunch of houses, realized the straps weren't really doing that much for safety. That was the first time I recited the Lord's prayer and really meant it. Fun vid guys. No sprouts in the Christmas Dinner yesterday has to be addressed. Cheers.
I totally agree about the architecture Lee, that’s the main reason why I like Blackpool, I used to stay at the Savoy because of that reason but the last time I went it was a bit run down, I also like the Winter Gardens. Plus the North pier, even the hand rails are Victorian, weathered but original.
We booked a short break in Blackpool after your last visit. The central point was to be the Tram ride with fish & chips. We booked it, a bargain at £15 each, and off we went. The day before the planned trip we had an email from the tram operator cancelling the trip. No explanation, just 'operational reasons'. We tried to revisit some old favourites but so many places are now closed down and derelict. Blackpool is now a squalid dump, full of drunks and people openly using drugs in the street. Streets were filthy too. Even the illuminations are a pale shadow of what they were. Sorry but Blackpool is finished unless you are on a stag/hen party. Nothing left to visit for. We won't be going back.
That was very cruel what you did , just hope he hasn't been put off by filming with you again and you found it soo funny , bet he was fuming when he got home poor Stephen
The stars of Coronation Street switched on the illuminations in 1983, when I was on holiday there with my Grandparents. Annie Walker switched on the lights with a beer pump! The cast then toured the lights on a tram, which we spotted on our way back to the digs. Alf Roberts waved at my Nan, which was a talking point for the rest of her life. Rita actress Barbara Knox has just turned 90, and to celebrate, ITV took her for a ride on a Heritage tram, with my friend Bradley at the controls! Actually, Bradley's parents used to own the Lyric, one of the hotels that were demolished to make way for the new hotel, came at the right time for them, as they were of retiring age.
My experiences of British Xmas Market, rip off prices & tat. Food always a rip off £8 for a Currywurst, the Gluhwein would probably be equally as sad as well! My judgment is clouded slightly by the fact that I’ve served in Germany a couple of times during my 24yrs in the Army & a couple of visits there after!! 🏴
Here's an idea Lee. Go to a good Chippy and learn how to cook Fish & Chip from a professional. Will give you a better understanding of what's wrapped in your newspaper, (I wish).
Absolutely love, love, love this video! You are the Master of editing Lee! Love the music, the snow gently falling, everything! You are so clever and I appreciate the extra time you put in. The Christmas market looked lovely and the Booster ride had me going "Oh my god!" Lol. My favourite vlog so far! Excellent. Well done! ❤
Back in the eighties, I used to work with a guy who took his family to Blackpool every Christmas! I'll be up there on Saturday 30th December for the Fylde Tramway Society Christmas Tour!
Used to go to Blackpool regularly after the in law’s moved there more than 40 years ago from Birmingham. Kids used ride donkeys, the lights, fish and chips etc. Father in law used to work on the trams. We stayed at an hotel on the sea front one Christmas and I recall high winds as we ate our dinner. We saw something fall off the hotel through dining room window which hit a car that was parked next to mine! It would have been cheaper and warmer to have gone abroad. Lol
Hi Lee and Stephen, it was awesome seeing you both. I will never forget that moment of being deep in thought wresting with a problem and looking up and seeing you both. You really made my month, thanks guys and thank you both for what you do. See you soon. Cheers Paul :)
Lee macmaster your very naughty I deffo thought you would both get on the ride or at least the spinny starflyer at least nice review and history lesson
Shame you had to put a negative spin on this. Christmas by the Sea just gets better every year. I went myself and the atmosphere is amazing. Love your energy though and you certainly bring a different side out in Stephen. Use the force wisely my friend ( yoda ).
@@bowjana8128 And I wouldn't pay it either, but if it floats your boat and people have the money - they will pay it. My only point being is please don't headline it for the video when the rest of Christmas by the Sea is a wonderland for most people at Christmas and brings money to the town.
@@bowjana8128 We were charged £10 for two small coffees and 4 donuts, had to pay because they made them first then took the money, there were no prices on view either. Beware folks.
I was born just up the road, in St Annes. I remember my Dad coming home from his Xmas day lunchtime pint, in absolute hysterics. One bloke had stayed in the pub too long, so 😊his wife delivered his dinner, to the tap room....and threw it at him! 😂
My default setting tends to be 'misrable git' but this video had me smiling ear to ear, two great blokes in the Autumn of their lives having a great laugh, and what a great sport Stephen is!...Thanks for a great feel good video Lee! 😄👍
Well the sausages looked good but as there charging top dollar you would think that they would provide brand name tomato sauce and mustard not that cheap crap from Farmfoods £1 a big bottle I believe
Blackpool was nice. But like Rhyl and many other sea side towns the “renovation” has been done for cost and not pride. Meaning they rip anything with character and heritage out and back up a 100 concrete trucks and pour it out. There’s your new sea front 👌🏻🤦🏻♂️ Only thing good they did is the joke paving in front of the tower.
Norbreck Castle was designed and built by my Grandmothers firm, so I was told. She was offered a partnership by Bill Butlin , at the opening, but she said there was no future in holiday camps.
When I was around 12/13 we had a lad that used to hang around with us, we planned to go to the ABC cinema let him pay first then we all ran off, I still see this lad around town, 40 odd years later & still feel guilty, his name was also Stephen 😢
Mister Macmaster! Gotta hand it to Ste for being so bloody knowledgeable about Blackpool 😊 these Christmas Markets are just way over priced things that they wouldn't heg away with except for the silly season that is Christmas! How much for a sausage on a bun 🤔 😮😮really grest watch when you 2 are mooching around Blackpool ❤🎉
I do love blackpool hopefully get there soon inbetween holidays to benidorm lol. Fancy letting stephen go on that ride on his own but to be fair id much rather my feet stayed on terra ferma as much as possible. Great video as always! 👍
When my sister & I stayed at the new ocean Hotel, the then manager told us that they owned the Lords hotel next door~ they told us we could park there for £5:00 per day. We paid him.
I have fond memories of Blackpool. I recall my father-in-law said to the inlaws there's a dog that just bit a man in the leg across the road, are you going to accuse me of that as well.. Trying to think why we called it Nagsville when visiting the inlaws! :-) There was a fish and chip shop on Lytham Road I used to visit and in Thornton Cleavley's. A pub called The Manchester was a good place to visit if you enjoy the company of people spoiling for a fight I'm told! It was very warm and calm one evening. I saw a young lady on roller skates along the seafront. If you closed your eyes you could imagine yourself in California! Happy days. 😀
