Amazing video. You and Chad Smith have similar (and extremely helpful) perspectives on this topic.

Chris, so true, I'm 50 years old, work in Trades as laborer, and love to lift weights, have had herniated disc in lower back and bulging disc in neck, big fan of Stuart McGill, but avoiding movements that cause big pain, till it gets better, ice, works for me,
still getting around, keeping the blood flowing, do the pain free lifts, till you recover, always helped, me work thru injuries. Great Info., Thanks!

This approach is magic for me and super timely. I got my self an old school heating pad like my grandmother had and spent focused time heating up and moving around some nagging hip muscular problems (piriformis and glute max). I woke up early this AM 95% better. Thanks Chris! Your coaching is awesome and I have sent friends to check out your videos.

This is true. I had a rotor-cuff injury from my jiu-jitsu. Very painful and limited movement almost impossible but I stretched and moved my shoulder as much as possible. As soon as the pain subdued, over time I was able to recover to almost to 80% within a month.

I messed up a disk last year and it was extremely painful to just move, plus sciatic nerve pain. I had to work on bodyweight and range of motion for weeks before I could add some weight. Then I only did 135 to 225 for 6 months. Finally a year later I'm about 50lbs away from my deadlift max of 500lb. Bad thing is, I was injured at home getting off the couch and not at the gym.

I am currently rehabbing my knee after a knee meniscectomy. i guess it depends on what you have done. sometimes you do just truly need to let something heal. for me the key is getting everything firing again, especially the quad and then getting back to lifting asap

I enjoyed the video, I'm suffering a a disc bulge most likely.. worst back pain I've ever felt

    I agree.
If you don't use it, you lose it. But any sign of pain on joints is never a good thing.

How do I start to become as knowledgeable as you about rehab?? I'm a PT and people come to me with all sorts of issues, I want to know that i'm giving the right information so that i can help them heal as fast as possible. Alleviating peoples pain is really important to me.

ohlookitsmitch something that has helped me a lot is understanding where muscles insert. That way we not only know how to move and stretch the muscle through fully lengthening and shortening but as well as knowing which muscles to target for activation or releasing due to it effecting other muscle groups. As Chris was saying about not having the best hip rotation movements which led to a quad tear

ohlookitsmitch as your first response was saying take a class on biomechanics, or read a text book on them. you will have a much better understanding of how they move

    • @MrMitchSH
      @MrMitchSH 7 лет назад +1

I have been educated on biomechanics, but I can't confidently say that anything works unless i've physically done them on myself first and completely understand the benefits. It was more so a question of where can I find hands on information on how to treat pain. I can't learn from books, I learn from doing.

Great advice as always could you possibly do a video explaining your theory and how to apply it for a groin injury? Thank You in Advance.

I agree however there are many injuries that require no movement. I had shoulder surgery and didn't move my arm for 2 months , and there's no way I could or should have

Interesting that I am looking at my body this way now after our work Friday, and seeing that my movements are being compromised by my prosthetic, and may need some adjusting to not cause further injuries and poor movement patterns.

  • @djsubliminalreeve

I tore my hamstring on friday and its starting to feel better already because i dont take any pain or anti inflamatory meds. The other thing is i get up and move about constantly and also stretch. Im hoping to be able to work out my legs by tomorrow. I would not do the same for certain other injuries like when my lat popped and i felt a loud tear in my back that was painful as fuck.

How should I approach starting sumo regimen after being a conventional deadlifter for so long and also been out for a long time? is it wise to just do lots of reps?
