  • I bought a 2023 Honda Civic Type R at the end of April 2023! In this video I share my thoughts on the car after having it for 2 weeks and why I decided to take delivery of the Type R rather than waiting for the Acura Integra Type S to be released.
The video was recorded with a GoPro Hero11 Black with a DJI Mic.

Thanks, Ethan! The manual transmission in the Type R is smoother and easier to drive than the manual transmission in the M2. I still can't get a smooth 1-2 shift in the M2, lol. Also, the shifter engagement in the M2 is not as positive - it doesn't go into gear as easily. I still like the manual in the M2, but I prefer the manual in the Type R.

Thanks! I drive a lot: 300 - 500 miles a week and also do short trips (less than 2 miles) to drop off an pick up my kids from school. For what I do and because I have the option to charge at home, I prefer the Plaid as my daily (more comfortable, faster off the line, no need to warm up, ability to heat up the car and cool it down remotely, FSD, great audio system, ventilated seats, etc.). When I bought the Type R, I had intended for it to eventually replace the Plaid as I typically don't hold onto cars for more than 2 years and figured it would be a good, special feeling daily that wouldn't depreciate much. The Type R wins in 3 categories: fun factor, lower depreciation, and the cool factor. If I didn't have the Plaid, I think I'd be happy with the Type R. However, at this point, I would not replace the Plaid with a Type R or Integra Type S.

I don't have experience with the newer STIs, however, they use the same EJ25 engine so I suppose the power would feel the same. From what I remember of it, I think the 2004 STI felt more raw - that car had fairly solid bushings. The 2011 was a bit softer and I'd say the Type R is comparable. The STI shifter is very mechanical and bit notchier than the Type R's shifter. Despite one being AWD and the other FWD, I think the fun factor of both cars is similar.

I get paying the MSRP or a few grand over, but with the way the dealerships are marking these Honda's up I am passing hard on the 2023 Type-R at $10k or more. I have heard stories of folks getting them at $7k or more as a "Deal". There is no "Deal" when you pay anything over MSRP. I don't care how in demand they are, MSRP is there to protect you as the buyer from the dealerships charging whatever they want. So, for me, I prefer to wait till they have them sitting on the lot at MSRP, then I will buy one.
