I had the a/c condenser leak also. Took the dealer a while to admit it was faulty out of factory. Finally fixed the issue. Covered by warranty of course.
21 civic owner here as per the water getting under engine cover , water would get into coil then spark plug , and would rust the spark plug shaft (idk what's called its what the spark plug goes down into )but it will cause misfires , problem was solved with coil replacement and spark plug . also care-full when washing check engine after water will most likely get in there .also if you daily drive get after market rims and tires, the ride will change like night and day ! love this car hope everyones enjoying it !

Wish it had a sunroof and lane assist camera. 40k is quite a price tag to just outright take away those options when the si has them. I know it's not type R legacy to have a sunroof but nor is it legacy to come with 20in tires and comfort driving mode 🤔
I work at a Honda dealership, the Civic Type do have a few issues, I have a coworker that owned Type R, which he traded it for a TrackHawck had a issue with the rear spoiler that was covered under the warranty, he had a Hondata tune, but for some reason Honda ask the master tech to get access to the Ecu before they approved the warranty, they did approved it, however I don’t know what they found as the car was flashed, hopefully the new owner doesn’t need a powertrain warranty claim, also we did have 2 Type Rs with transmission problems, on both Honda were giving us a hard time, wanted the tech to find if the customer was at fault, and again they got in to the ECU before approval.
What kind of transmission issue? I just picked up a 2024 Acura integra type s and when I shift quickly to second it grinds. I’ve been driving manuals all my life and have never had this issue before
Rock chips 4 sure. Get PPF wrap the day you drive it off the lot, save yourself $$$ and headaches, trust me. It chips SUPER EASY, mine is 2019 Championship White...
That AC condenser problem is a civic issue all around. Its a recall defect which is covered by the 2016 and later versions of these cars. Wether its a lx or type r, its a well known issue and its covered by the dealership.
I don't know much about cars and I'm actually getting close to buying my first one. I looked up the real life version of the my favorite car in GTA which ended up being the Lancer Evo, but since they're not available anymore and no one wants to sell theirs I had to look at alternatives. From there I ended learning about the Type R and I'm honestly really looking forward to it. Thank for the video!

Nice video man :) I recently bought a Type R, and I didn't know that the 4th gear lockout was a common problem. It happens for me especially when downshifting from 5th. I thought it was just me shifting incorrectly, but it's good to hear that other people have had this issue haha.
I’m also a 2 year owner of a white CTR and agree with most of the problems. Just never had issue with AC yet..... I did have a few grind issue with the transmission, but that was fixed with amsoil synchromesh fluid or I hear of people removing the clutch master cylinder delay valve.... other then that gonna have to look at the spark plugs next summer.
Koomoo Ly I’m an 18 month owner and the 2nd gear grind Is the gearbox. When cold I always double clutch and it goes in silky smooth. If I don’t it will grind. Drove it- lights went off/ reset. No further noise or lights. No mods. Inlet hose? MAF plug? My guess is something got in there and was blown out after start up and drive. Transmission has been fine. A/C okay too. 42,000 miles. Honda wants $165 just to look at it. Under extended full warranty. Paint, like the 30 series tires, is sprayed on. But the AB color is still gorgeous. . Doesn't fade- but chips easily. Overall still thrilled.
There's some people who have an oil leak on the valve cover gasket on the driverside towards the firewall. The water leak on the spark plugs shouldn't be like that unless the spark plug seal is compromised. It takes a lot for something like that to happen. Trust me I have a spoon sports VC and I have power wash the car and have seen no water leak issues.
I think this car is for the people who wanted an ITR back in the day and couldnt get one. It's just a track version of an already made economy car. Thanks for the shout out bro I really enjoy your content.
I work for Honda all 10th gen civics have AC problem the most common issue is with the condensers leaking around the Orings just recently we started getting people in with compressor issues the 1234yf is terrible
Water leak is a bad design flaw. Maybe place a plastic bag over the vanity engine cover and make sure you remove before driving it. Suck if you dont have a garage or need to drive in the rain.
Damn, paint problems been around since my 8th gen fa5 was made. Look into the master cylinder and slave cylinder, I know I've replaced them in my 8th gen with em1 cmc and csc, not that you could use them on a 2020 type r, but changing to a different unit stopped the lock out in my car
As vehicles increase in complexity reliability becomes increasingly difficult. And the epa etc create these rules and restrictions for manufacturers with no idea what it means for vehicle longevity.
to fix the water problem im assuming you can get a piece of rubber or plastic piece that has a slight lip on it from home depot or lows, open up the hood either put clips/rivets in the plastic of bottom of the hood scoop that way its still functional but when it sits the water will be forced to sit in the scoop itself until driven then naturally it will go threw and in the engine bay and evaporate. if you end up riveting or clipping it i would run a small amount of black rtv along the seem to make sure its water tight but this should fix the issue since once the car is running and engine is warm the water should evap. im assuming this issue only consists when it rains and the car sits with the water for quite some time with it seeping into the plugs. we have had a bunch of rain the past couple weeks and i never ran into this issue or even had the car hesitate to start. i also try to part so im slightly at and angle with the nose of the car tilting down so the water falls off the hood and not back into the engine. Try the method out hope this helps.
I thought I was alone with the water in the spark plug issue. Had the car for a year and half, then I started getting bad misfires. Took it back to the dealership and they told me I had water in my plugs. Not sure how I feel knowing that its a common issue with most type r's. 2 year owner here as well.
Hey my car is in the dealer right now because of this same issue and my advisor tells me he's not sure if it will be covered!! I have a misfire in cylinder 4 because of this. What was your outcome when it happened to you?
@@leroysirois7040 my issue was covered under warranty but I had the car until last month with no issues. Traded it for a truck because of necessity but it ran great after servicing.
@@maldy3814 my dealer is saying they're not sure if it's going to be covered. Purchase as a CPO owned it for about 8 months now less thank 5k miles put on it. Clearly is a design flaw wouldn't you agree?
@@leroysirois7040 absolutely is a design flaw. Surprised they are even debating if it should be covered if it's happening to so many people. My CTR was also completely stock and I was the first and only owner. Nothing done to it at all and it happened.
My ac compressor also was leaking. I have a 2018 si . They filled it and "fixed" it and it failed again after a year. And now I had them repair it again and its been fine ... so far... but other than that I love the 🚗
I have an ‘18 Si too and my AC compressor also was leaking. The dealer confirmed it was covered under warranty and ordered it. After doing some research, the compressors are on back order... so I’ve been waiting for a few weeks already.
There are some drivers who don't care and every day pushing their car to limits and maximum... And then when something appears they are wondering why ?
People expect more because they paid 40k for a car. 40k is not cheap. I understand why people expect a higher standard but unfortunately it gets the same standards as a base civic. I have paint issues and 2nd gear grind on my 2021, there's no excuse for that on any new car.
Also thanks for the info about the warranty, been waiting on mine to be fixed and the shop I took it too has yet to call me back about it. (3rd party dealership warranty)
I've had my 17 type r since August of 2017. Been loving the shit out of it have about 23k on it, did some work to it with some mods. Me personally haven't experienced the ac issue or the transmission all that often had a crunch maybe 5 times in the life of it but the paint!!! The paint upsets me sometimes with how easy it chips and shit. But whatever it's a daily race car lol what do we expect from Honda
unfortunately now many car companies have shitty paint. I always say is the high price because of the orange peel..Lol... seems most cars these days have thin paint and orange peel, which totally sucks.
Knock on the wood metal concrete. I don’t have any of these problems after 2 and half years with 21k miles. I don’t have a garage so I park outside 24/7 and I live in NY. Second gear grind has happened less than 5 times and I knew I fucked up because I tried to shift so fast into second and the clutch wasn’t fully depressed. (Move ur seat closer to the pedals guys. Went to a type r car meet two ppl drove our cars to position for a photoshoot and they asked me why the fuck is seat so close to the wheel and they slide the seat back about 5-8 inches, I was like ???? Can you guys even reach the pedals wtf they were about 2-3 inches shorter than me. I’m 5’9 and they are like 5’6-7. No wonder a lot of ppl are having gear grind issues you can’t drive a manual car like an automatic). I have less than 5 rock ships?? I don’t drive behind big trucks or whatsoever and I ceramic coated my car myself for paint protection since I don’t have a garage lol. Don’t know about the interior quality but I’m very happy with it, it’s simple and the seats are cool. The Alcantara on the hand rest did fade a little bit, well isn’t that normal??? I mean even leather does that over time no???? Correct me if I’m wrong never owned a car with leather interior.
I drive my husbands 2013 6spd accord and never have had gear grind 1st into 2nd.. so I don't know if it's the newer ones or just user error or some bad apples in the bunch, because that does happen. Yes leather wears out, but only if you don't take care of it. I only drive cars with leather or leatherette. I had leather done in my 2018 civic sport hatch. To me just easier to take care of..Yeah I drive much closer to the steering wheel when I drive a manual.
I've been looking at the CTR for a while. How are the seats for daily driving? There is a lot of bolstering, wondering if having to drop my but in the center of the seat every time is going to get old. Enjoyed the video
@@xSyrious Yeah, I've never had a car with seats with that much bolstering. Not sure if it would be a hassle or something I would get used too. Own a '91 NSX and those seats are like dropping your but in a bucket of butter. Very comfortable. Thanks for the help
only thing I think you missed Is the the head unit / stereo is the worst. 50% of the time my car play wont work or the screen just goes black, no radio, no nothing!
One more major thing in general Honda hatches 10th gen. Rear wiper leaks into the trunk every time it rains. Just take a look at the latch it will be full of water. English don’t know for shit how to waterproof.
I was and still kinda obsessed with the CTR. I've noticed that the prices have gone up slightly with very little depreciation, even for '17 models. I don't own one but it definitely seems overhyped at this point.
Not overhyped. Its literally the best car on a performance per dollar scale. Also the smiles per dollar category as well. Literally every website and RUclips review is positive. And its the fastest fwd care to ever touch the ring.
Own a 21 fk8 with 22k miles on it and the front bumper is sagging pretty badly. Rhe car has never been in an accident and is babied. The only thing i can tht mighr contribute to it is that the roads where i live are just bad. My car is 100% stock so i still have the factory rims and tired on it. Tje construction of the front bumper is a bit weak. Dont get me wrong i absolutely love this car and cant say enough good about it. The only other issue ive had is with the turbo. At the time of writing this its at the dealer and they are strugglimg to figure out whats wrong. They have alresdy replaced the turbo (i dont believe that was necessary) and its still not running right. The turbo is slow to kock in and at times wont kick innat all. It also is jerky at times when it does kick in. I believe its the fuel pump but the dealer isnt convinced and only seems to follow codes. They dont seem to know how to diagnose other than codes. This why they changed the turbo due to some code it kicked out. Hopefully ot will be fixed soon and illnbe back to loving my time in the fk8!
All Honda paint sucks. I had a 2017 Accord sport special in red. In 2 years it looked like I drove it in a sand blaster. Had a white hue all over the front end
Honestly, I think the paint is very important especially when Hondas are suppose to last a long time. Suddenly a Toyota Corolla hatchback is looking like a more reliable vehicle.
For that spark plug issue..cant they make some kind of coil pack cover for the engine like they have done with older k engines? For example, my k20 has a ktuned valve cover and it has the ktuned coil pack cover.
I think you need to go to the history of the tyoe r the hype on this car is not since 2017 it goes back to 1995 or less the hype is pretty old and yes its a car that did one minute less than a mclaren on the nerburgring track ,agian its not a hyper car but it dam embarrasses many of high end cars ,its not the cost but what honda did with a 40k car and what it’s capable of

I work for Honda all 10th gen civics have AC problem the most common issue is with the condensers leaking around the Orings just recently we started getting people in with compressor issues the 1234yf is terrible
My AC also got replaced yesterday on warranty. You need to remove a lot from the front
Rocks constantly getting stuck between the rotor and dust shield
Paint is also thin on my 07 S2K.. and the slave/master cylinder seems to leak to slowly other then that its not bad at all
Water leak is a bad design flaw.
What happened with the 8th gen civics paint should be a crime.
Can’t wait to cop mine when I graduate.
you got it my friend!
It's a uk built car so we can't expect 100% japanese built and assembled quality
Right and even if it was built Japan, that doesn't mean that it will never have an issue. EVERY car has its issues.
BULLSHIT.. its still The Japanese that decides the quality
Yeah agree. What a load of rubbish and obviously trying to insult the workers at Swindon.
Next gen will be made in America!!!!
As vehicles increase in complexity reliability becomes increasingly difficult. And the epa etc create these rules and restrictions for manufacturers with no idea what it means for vehicle longevity.
All pilots ever made had a bad gasket design in the A/C line. Part is less than a buck but it is a pain to have a new-off-the-lot car and have no A/C
to fix the water problem im assuming you can get a piece of rubber or plastic piece that has a slight lip on it from home depot or lows, open up the hood either put clips/rivets in the plastic of bottom of the hood scoop that way its still functional but when it sits the water will be forced to sit in the scoop itself until driven then naturally it will go threw and in the engine bay and evaporate. if you end up riveting or clipping it i would run a small amount of black rtv along the seem to make sure its water tight but this should fix the issue since once the car is running and engine is warm the water should evap. im assuming this issue only consists when it rains and the car sits with the water for quite some time with it seeping into the plugs. we have had a bunch of rain the past couple weeks and i never ran into this issue or even had the car hesitate to start. i also try to part so im slightly at and angle with the nose of the car tilting down so the water falls off the hood and not back into the engine.
@@maldy3814 hey man I know you don't know me or anything but do you have any of the Honda paperwork still from that repair?
My biggest problem is that the front tyres wear out so quickly🤗
My ac compressor also was leaking. I have a 2018 si . They filled it and "fixed" it and it failed again after a year. And now I had them repair it again and its been fine ... so far... but other than that I love the 🚗
I hope it stays fine! I love the car as well. Such a great drive
Honda’s are notorious for paint issues. My 2010 civic clear cost started chipping. They are horrible
great video , just bought a 2021 Type R Sonic Grey. i'm in love 😍
Good choice!
Thanks for the review guy !!!! Thinking of getting a 2020 or 2019 hopefully it doesn’t have that spark plug issue w h20
Nice video! Alot of common sense and well put together!
I appreciate that! :D
@2:35 I didn’t know Honda Put their engine in the trunk now lol 😂
“Now that we have the trunk open”
Q&A what’s the plan for the channel? Are you gonna do more gaming content? Or more vlogs? And why did you choose the civic type R
Thank you , Thank you for the questions!
I hope it works out soon!
I had an 07 si that would grind from 2-3 gear. The tranny eventually blew up. I was a conservative driver.
Thx for all the info. I've watched a ton of your videos today. I hope to land a Type R in the future
i have a black type R also,, love it
Just thinking about it, it’s not only rain that people would have to worry about, but what about washing the car?! That’s scary 😭
bahaha water still gets under the hood.
But whatever it's a daily race car lol what do we expect from Honda
hahaha i agree man the paint sucks but it's sure fun to drive it!
Ya the paints a bit thin :(
unfortunately now many car companies have shitty paint. I always say is the high price because of the orange peel..Lol... seems most cars these days have thin paint and orange peel, which totally sucks.
Just giving heads up when I searched type r you were the 2nd suggestion. Hope this info helps your growth bro.
Awesome thank you!
I don't have any of those issues with my 10th gen Accord 2.0T Touring. 🤘 #TeamXAccord
Correct me if I’m wrong never owned a car with leather interior.
yes, changing driver position can make great improvement on someones driving!
I hear some are having valve cover gasket leaks. Starting to notice on civic forums.
Yea I've heard about this too actually! Have to watch out for excess white smoke.
I've been looking at the CTR for a while. How are the seats for daily driving? There is a lot of bolstering, wondering if having to drop my but in the center of the seat every time is going to get old. Enjoyed the video
They're not bad I do have some areas where the bolstering is starting to wear down but I think it's just due to the way I get in and out
@@xSyrious Yeah, I've never had a car with seats with that much bolstering. Not sure if it would be a hassle or something I would get used too. Own a '91 NSX and those seats are like dropping your but in a bucket of butter. Very comfortable. Thanks for the help
I love Honda. SUBSCRIBED!
only thing I think you missed Is the the head unit / stereo is the worst. 50% of the time my car play wont work or the screen just goes black, no radio, no nothing!
I think the problem is not the transmission they have to calibrate the shifter I have the problem you mentioned
Great video! Finding a type R out the door for 40k-42k is pretty impossible though. Might depend where you live?
Thanks! it's rare to find them at good prices. 3 years ago I had to fly a few hours to get mine at a good price and drive it back haha
In black CTR any black car use turtle black spray wax then walaah... try it and let me know your thoughts.
I definitely will!
One more major thing in general Honda hatches 10th gen. Rear wiper leaks into the trunk every time it rains. Just take a look at the latch it will be full of water. English don’t know for shit how to waterproof.
Think if you put some dielectric grease on the spark plugs maybe this could solve the issue?
That's probably a good idea. Someone should try it. I just keep my head valve cover on so most water doesn't get into it.
I had my civic sport for 3 years and no problems
That's what I like to hear!
My 2018 si has the 2nd gear grind problems. Even when you try to go slow it wants to happen. I believe its not you its maybe the car.
It's just bad timing.... I do it too
Good hype, civic type r is a race car basically. Better than a Ferrari to be honest .
@@ryanbutler9964 Renault megane rs trophy r
@@arielyanay2454 that’s 80grand. It’s not the normal trophy
@@arielyanay2454 2023 type r beat it by over 20 seconds. so indeed the Type R is the king of Fwd.
That sucks with the transmission. Changing fluid is a big deal and shouldn’t be done.
sad but true! Ia ctually started experiencing 3rd gear crunches a few days ago on hard pulls
Just discovered you through my recommended! Great vid, subbed 🤙🏻
Appreciate it man! Welcome!
What year type R is this? I
2018
Thank for the vid man
No problem 👍 Thank you even more for taking the time to watch it! :)
Nicely done video.
Thank you!
bought mine for 40k i think it’s overpriced but it’s whatever i enjoy it
same bought mine for 40K but I have no regrets still to this day.
I have problem with my 2021 with the shifter paramo dealer in New Jersey not want to fix
I want to buy a 2019 but don’t have a garage for it and scared about the water seepage from the hood vent damaging the spark plugs
Amazing video. Keep up the great job! Drizzyhours 👋🏽
My man Drizzy! :D
For that spark plug issue..cant they make some kind of coil pack cover for the engine like they have done with older k engines? For example, my k20 has a ktuned valve cover and it has the ktuned coil pack cover.
2006 type r hatchback not staying in second gear unless you hold it down what's causing that ?
Im not sure could be the synchros or time for a tranny rebuild
If I get a used Type R 2017-2018 I’m in FL gas is high here how much would I be spending and my commute to work is mostly highway
I fill up about once/twice a week depending how much I have to drive for work
Did they fix any of these issues for the 2020?
not too sure honestly!
