@@michaelanthony7327 Honda cares about their heritage. There’s reason they make certain decisions. It’s the exact reason the S2000 never came in an automatic. It’s the exact reason the Type R is faster than a DCT AWD Golf R around the Nurburgring. If you don’t understand that go buy a depreciating under performing mediocre hyuandai lol
Such a divisive model and brand here in Australia. The primary issues of the FL5 are affordability and availability, the latter being at the mercy of Honda head office in Japan, who could ramp up production if they choose. If placing an order today in Australia, waiting up to 2 years for a new FL5 is very frustrating. It's incredible there is such pent up demand for certain manual models, when makers complain that if both manual and automatic transmissions are offered, less than 5% of sales are manual.
Great review Paul. But for 72k this car is a rip off when you consider the poor quality build in centre console, the paint they have already pre charged but claim it’s free, the lack of 360 camera system, the lack of spare wheel, the lack of AC system for rear passengers and charging. Honda is a once was…
$72k pass i have also not had great experiences with Honda Aus warranty in the past ,no surprise they are now bypassing dealers / fixed price scheme . I'm still a Honda fan especially in the N/A vtec cars past but let's be honest a sorted Golf R would tear this to pieces in any real world driving.
Seriously this thing doesn't even have fog lights! I don't look twice at one. The FK8 is the best looking Type R easily, it's special and will go down as the most collectible in the future.

Ford Focus RS was 0-100 in 4.7, Thought the Civic would be in the low 5's, at the very least, The handling is pretty though by the looks of it, so as a track weapon it should be on point.
The question is could you live with the ride on pock marked roads if it was your daily driver? And as manuals are like unicorns these days would grid locked traffic be another game breaker compared to an auto/DSG. For me i suspect it would be. VW's might be dull for some until you throw some mods at them and they become supercars speed wise. 235kw in the Honda is probably more than enough for FWD.
No one talks about the annoying torque steer when pushing this car to its limits, or the lack of a manual handbrake!!! These two flaws aside it's an impressive car. But owning one and a GR86, I'm always going for the GR86 keys.
@@CarExpertAus limited slip diff has nothing to do with the torque steer though. Honda uses clever dual axis knuckle design to remove it. But it will show in wet or limits
@@CarExpertAus interesting you noted this, I didn’t either until after a week of driving mine and interchanging between cars. It’s not exactly obtrusive, but it is there. Great review otherwise Paul 👍🏼

Yeah sorry can't stomach paying over 70k for a civic. It's FWD at the end of the day. Don't care how well it goes on track. Rusted on Honda Bois will all be lining up though I'm sure. The i30n sedan is such a better deal for 16-18k cheaper? It's more livable too, especially in terms of suspension and little creature comforts like heated / cooled seats , heated steering wheel and better tech. The DCT is quicker and it's sounds 100 times better. If you drive both on track together they're about neck and neck in terms of performance and driver feel. One has a track warranty as well and it's not the honda. I get Honda's history and all and they can demand these sort of prices but the competition has caught right up. Atleast it seems like a return to the 90s for them apart from the price.

@@CU-nz9ud ive had more issues with my crv than my i30n hatch which did 140k kms before i sold it. my i30 n has a track warranty as well. The type r doesnt.
@@mharro88 As I said, and this is from my son who works on all model cars, they are ok in general for say 5 years, but then they develop issues which he doesn’t see on the Jap cars. Euro cars are similar to Hyundai in that regard as well. Of course you can get lucky or unlucky with a Jap car or other as well.
Nice review. Can you please review the Golf R…
Great review
Android Auto is wireless too if you dive a little deeper in the factory settings.
It’s the most beautiful hatchbacks I ever seen in my entire life time 💯🔥wow wow wow
I really wish Honda made this in a dual clutch or some sort of Automatic. Great review Paul. 👍
That is not Honda’s heritage. They know if they make the car with an automatic or dual clutch that more people will buy it. But it would take away from the roots and history of the car. If you want an automatic go elsewhere
@@BlueFL5 Who care’s if it’s not Honda’s heritage lol. I just think it was the wrong move for Honda financially to only produce this vehicle in a manual only variant. Hyundai made a dual clutch variant for their I30N and it’s sold that well that you can’t even order a car now. Toyota has a dual clutch in the works for their GR Corolla and Yaris.
Sacrilege
@@michaelanthony7327 pretty sure they'll all sell out regardless
Such a divisive model and brand here in Australia. The primary issues of the FL5 are affordability and availability, the latter being at the mercy of Honda head office in Japan, who could ramp up production if they choose. If placing an order today in Australia, waiting up to 2 years for a new FL5 is very frustrating. It's incredible there is such pent up demand for certain manual models, when makers complain that if both manual and automatic transmissions are offered, less than 5% of sales are manual.
Current wait time is 14 months
No more manuals for mazda 3 😢 A little unrelated but one of the few accessible manuals available in all specs.
I agree, that its a lose, Hyundai will be next with i30 and sedan.
The price is eye watering.
Hey Paul, any chance you can test the i30 sedan N?
Great review Paul. But for 72k this car is a rip off when you consider the poor quality build in centre console, the paint they have already pre charged but claim it’s free, the lack of 360 camera system, the lack of spare wheel, the lack of AC system for rear passengers and charging. Honda is a once was…
It’s a track focus car you whimp
Yeah this car is definitely not for you. You should go with a Camry. Nice and comfy. Just stick to the left lane please
That's cheap. It is the equivalent of 88k Aus. dollars here in the UK
Should get a Camry then! 😂
How does it compare to the i30 sedan N ?
It amazes me that car manufacturers cheap out on reverse camera when a good quality one would only cost an extra 10-20 for them
if you ran it to redline in second, would it make 100? it looked close.
What watch is that? Looks great :)))
I like the interior more than the Corolla, the exterior styling is nice and understated as well but those partial LED lights are a shame
Great review as usual. I'd be taking it straight down to the exhaust shop for $100 resonator delete to get a decent sound out of it
On top of the $73K?
The $72,600 is inclusive of on road costs.
I like this but $72K but the I20n less power but cost to fun factor? Which one.?
Seriously this thing doesn't even have fog lights! I don't look twice at one. The FK8 is the best looking Type R easily, it's special and will go down as the most collectible in the future.
Hi Paul, do a drag race with the civic against the I30N
this is a car i would by in a heart beat
Buy*
Still have no idea why it only has 4 seats
Hello mat please review the new toyota urban cruiser🙏🙏🙏🙂🙂
Are you going to review the new Land Rover Defender 130:?
Fuck I’m impressed, you did not touch everything. Well done . Have a great day.🎉
If you are a Honda lover this would be good for you. But plenty of other better options out there. Also the older Civic looks so much better!
What are the other options?
Just think for a moment what new and used cars you can buy for this money or less that deliver most if not all the enjoyment.
The list is extensive.
Please review Haval tank 300
My dream car. ❤
Great test thank you as always. I'm going to say something really silly here...any chance of an automatic with heated seats and heated steering wheel? Please don't hate me but it would be perfection for me! Sorry!
@Paulwardzynski3265- It’s disappointing but Honda will never produce this vehicle in an Automatic variant. I’m the same. Where I live having a manual in peak hour traffic isn’t practical anymore, therefore I’d prefer an automatic transmission.
A Camry Hybrid SL should be more to your liking. 😂
nice car, hows Honda's support these days
would you be able to review the Mercedes E class , comparing all generations ?
like guys pls!
you're a genius
Like the GR Corolla and Yaris, why manual only? Not even F1 has been fully manual for years. And yes, I drive manual.
4 colors? Where's boost blue?
How does it compare to an i30N? Wouldn't this be the obvious question?
Murders it.
@@CarExpertAus Thanks Paul, even the front electronic LSD in the i30N? It is really point and forget - no torque steer just goes, the Type R is better?
@@steverodwell2952 The i30 N is incredibly capable and excellent value for money. The Type R is just next level when it comes to cornering performance and the chassis.
@@CarExpertAus Fair enough then, I have not driven a Type R, but, owned a i30 Fastback N. Given the price now, is cross shopping a Type R with a Mustang GT crazy??
Don’t forget quality Steve. See how good a Honda is a decade or more later, and compare that to a Hyundai.
72k plus on road mean ?
On road costs depending in wich sate. Be probably just under $80k drive away if you can even get one
@@Joobkl haha that’s what I want to point on this video is wrong lol , is 72k driveaway , saying “ plus on road “ along with 72k is wrong .
Very misleading
its actualy $72600 driveaway
Ford Focus RS was 0-100 in 4.7,
Thought the Civic would be in the low 5's, at the very least,
The handling is pretty though by the looks of it, so as a track weapon it should be on point.
The focus rs was around 5.4 seconds to 100 kmh in the real world which alot of reviewers got which is a joke for an awd car
Civic low 5s at the very least!!! Are you a comedian???😂😂😂
72k???
$20k bump in price no thanks
What a brilliant car
The question is could you live with the ride on pock marked roads if it was your daily driver? And as manuals are like unicorns these days would grid locked traffic be another game breaker compared to an auto/DSG. For me i suspect it would be. VW's might be dull for some until you throw some mods at them and they become supercars speed wise. 235kw in the Honda is probably more than enough for FWD.
Can anyone review this car without saying hot hatch?
No one talks about the annoying torque steer when pushing this car to its limits, or the lack of a manual handbrake!!! These two flaws aside it's an impressive car.
But owning one and a GR86, I'm always going for the GR86 keys.
Didn’t notice any torque steer. It uses a limited slip differential so it shouldn’t have any torque steer.
@@Inalielsa The Focus RS used a similar suspension system, but an LSD is the first point of removing torque steer after suspension and drive shaft lengths. Without an LSD (and the dual-axis strut) this would be all over the shop.
Annoying torque steer 😂 nought
Agree!!!
Hyundai don’t have near to Honda reliability or resale value though.
That's cheap. It is the equivalent of 88k Aus. dollars here in the UK
@@bondjamesbond9041 insane.
@@CU-nz9ud recent n cars since 2018 have been just as reliable.
Hands down gr corolla 10 cheaper plus just a better car in general can't wait to see a head to head video ❤
Who's hands were found?
But You didn't say that GR Corolla has very few cars available in Australia and Toyota are only catering the Car to Toyota Premium Customers only, they won't just let You walk in and buy one in AUSTRALIA.
more fun too, so is the i30n
Looks too big .The previous gen was a discussion of too much or too good .Idk why the new wrx now the type r are almost looking like camrys in size and looks
The faux vent he mentioned is a Real one indeed
Good review, but I think for the price, it's far too high for what's on offer but I suppose if you're after a dedicated race car and have that kind of money to put down I am sure you will. Plus well the fan boys will buy them too... 😂
Really weird new car market right now. Pay a ginormous amount of money and then being told to wait years to get what you paid for.
You only need to put down $1000 to place an order
Wow 72k for a Honda hatch back that’s a good laugh 😂😂 stuff that
