Lucy, if you want milk that tastes as close to what milk should taste like I would recommend the European carton milk that Intermart sells (Eximo Milk) as everything else that I’ve tried tastes like they’ve been watered down. We had locally produced fresh milk from Mia but they closed down over a year ago.
@@LucyLeheilleix yes, you’re right about the cold chain issues. That means you’ve been in Mauritius for quite a while? I used to go and buy their milk in bulk from a place only about 10mins drive from the La Nicoliere reservoir due to their cold chain issues. It’s a shame as their milk was better than anything else available in the supermarkets.

As a Mauritian myself, I still don’t get why many foreigners think that living here will be affordable. All our foodstuffs are imported. And most are third grade. Fuel is very expensive. Only possible reason i see if you want to avoid tax in your country. But in end, you are buying or renting property 10 times the actual value. I myself prefer to live in countries like Malaysia or Thailand which are more affordable and better standard of living.

Hi Lucy , thanks for interesting video , we have been to Mauritius numerous times from Australia and always found it cheaper in Mauritius. Grocery prices according to Numbeo in general are 37 percent cheaper, restaurant prices 53 percent cheaper. We pay $6.00 ( 190 RS) for a loaf of sour dough bread from Woolworths in OZ. Countries seem to compare what a McMeal at McDonalds cost - Aust.$12.00 ( 380RS) and Maur. $6.31 (200 RS) for prices etc., nearly half the price. Interesting , Love Mauritius.
It’s interesting as I have some Australian friends here who all think the food is similar in price to Oz. I really think it depends what you buy. As soon as wine, chocolate, imported hams and cheese go into the basket, the cost goes up a lot.
@@LucyLeheilleix Hi Lucy , interesting as well. Prices in OZ have gone up a lot also in the past year. lets hope things return to normal soon. Go well , look forward to your videos.
It's good you've made this vid, Lucy. The truth is sometimes people think that places like Mauritius will represent a major decrease in the cost of living compared to their home country. The truth can be a mixed bag, groceries and other essentials are pretty similar in price to what people pay in most Western countries, although in general shopping in Mauritius will be slightly cheaper overall. It would be good if you could do a vid about the cost of accommodation too. Mauritius is a wonderful place to move to for most people, but it's important to try to accurately budget what your living expenses will be should you make the move. If people are looking for a big discount on their cost of living, Mauritius may not represent the value they're looking for. It does make up for that in other ways however if you can afford it.
Thanks for this great comment. It's so true what you say. It think it's important that people realise that perhaps a place won't be quite what they expect, and often one's salary turns out to be insufficient for your lifestyle in your new country of residence. We have found Mauritius to be expensive compared to RSA, and now the tax rate here has also gone up, drastically changing things. Take care and thanks for watching.
