  • Cascavelle mall is a semi-open-air mall near Flic en Flac in the West of Mauritius. It has all the usual suspects that a mall should have, Mcdonald's, KFC, a great food court, clothing shops, and a Winners. The difference is that this mall has a few extras that cater to a South African market.
Cascavelle is close to both Flic en Flac and Bambous, but its real drawcard is where it is situated. Every bus and car that is going to Flic en Flac beaches has to go right past it. With easy access and ample parking, this makes it a winner, with a Winners (wow, that was bad, sorry).
Most of the main shopping area is full of shops, the normal guys you find in the malls, Island Haze, Quicksilver, Cafe Lux, Artisinal Coffee, Roxy, Citadel, and a few shops I hadn't seen before. I loved Funkyfish, a place you can buy all your fun dress-up things.
The food court actually had a Mcdonald's in it, the drive-through was outside. There was a great choice of foods, but some of the stands were empty, I guess tourist places were the hardest hit during the lockdown, but there was still a great variety. On either side was a fancier restaurant, A place serving up a full English Breakfast and a beautiful Arabian place. We missed the sushi upstairs but pushed their vending machine.
The Winners is very well appointed with all new fridges and a few extras. We found boerewors and actual ribs, both ready for the braai. Come October, I can picture them stocking up on a few old favorites from South Africa like they did a few years ago when we last visited. We were so tired after the long day, we stopped at the KFC for a bucket for one. My new favorite from the chicken kings.
Cascavelle appears to be on the way back. I think the lockdown and closer of the beaches hurt it more than people realize, but the good news is that on the day we visited it seemed like the sparkle was back and soon business will be booming.

We are saving up to get a drone, so we can show you more from the places we visit. Help the cause by buying a coffee. You can also get a free copy of Riki's art of the day here:

You don't need Mc Donalds or other international fast food chains in Mauritius. The local cuisine is the best, as you always express it. It's great what information you bring over, thank you.

We were in Mauritius for the first time in 1985, a dream, then twice every year until 1999.

hello bryan and riki, flic en flac beach can have a lots of broken coral on the beach after a storm and most of the time it`s cleared making it is safe to stroll and swim, but cascavelle is a gem in mauritius.

The best part of the video was the aqueduct at the end.
Maybe the lost Roman legion is in Britannia, Mauritius.
Cascavelle mall will certainly be a stop on my way to Flic en Flac next time.

It always disappoints to see KFC, McDonalds, SubWay in Mauritius when you can get so much better from local vendors across the island
