    This makes a lot of sense. My friend and I have been digging on this abandoned university of Wisconsin football field for a couple years now. It was absolutely loaded with coins. We have dug thousands of modern coins their. The more we keep digging up all the modern coins which are covering up the old stuff the more old comes out. The first year we only got a few silver coins. This year we got 30 plus silvers lots of jewelry Buffalo nickels v nickels etc. This place was so loaded in my best day I dug 300 clad coins with 122 of them being quarters. The last few hunts this year we went after the mid tones hoping to unmask more silver or find some gold. It worked! It's the only place we've hunted that gave up Morgan silver dollars silver half dollars silver quarters silver dimes and yep even some silver war nickels.
    The more junk we dug, the more we were rewarded. We're hoping to get back in there this spring before they dig it all up and turn it into an artificial turf sports center. This place was a dream come true!

      That is an epic story Greg. Our parks were just like that about 15 years ago. Our parks have been beat to death over the years by so many guys. These new machines are pulling a few silvers out but not as many as 15 years ago. So many people think coin programs get all the coins, coin programs may get 30% of the coins. Coin programs actually slow you down because the programs get a lot of broken tones. You have to dig the layers of surface junk to get the deeper stuff.

      @Paystreak Superfreak yes sir! I run my deus 2 wide open no notches. I run discrimination at 5.9.
      I have learned one thing super cool about the deus 2. If you have a coin spill that has a nickel in it it'll sound like an elongated tone. Down averages in the 70s. I've gotten a few silvers that way. If there's silver around the deus 2 will find it. I dug 76 silvers this year and 30 rings. My buddy got over 100 silvers with his deus 2. He just ordered a manticore and it's going to be fun comparing the machines. Especially if xp gets that update out soon to sweeten up my full tones

    Each video I am able to take time to watch on your channel, I ALWAYS take away some new knowledge. If you offered memberships to your channel, I'd surely join to contribute as your vids have either saved me endless hours of trial and error, or just doing something better that I may have either been doing wrong or not all. The result is allowing your viewers to key in on a better approach to metal detecting. Well done as always! Your channel is my "go to" for learning and improving my detecting techniques and habits.

    A friend of mine started detecting a few years back and he's one of those guys that don't like help. But after a year of watching me dig great stuff he asked my advice. I told him tape will make you a better detectorist. Cover those numbers up and trust the audio. Took him a few weeks to adjust and lots of griping he started to put it together tonally👍
    Then we removed his tape covering his vdi and he put the two together after that with a new perspective. He spends much less time analyzing a target.
    Great video brother 👍

    Years ago I had a Bounty Hunter machine with manual ground balance and all metal threshold mode plus motion tone modes but it only had a 7 inch coil. I found a lot of nice gold and silver rings with it but only one silver quarter. It just wasn`t deep enough for the very old house sites I found along the river. I`m sure I would have found more rings with a deeper machine because I was hunting swimming areas on a lake they had lowered about 7 feet to work on the dam when I found most of the rings. Several were found at its depth limit. I made enough on a typical day with it to buy gas, smokes and beer though just in coins. Wore that thing out.
    One day at a new area I found two very thick and heavy 14k men`s rings and a smaller but hefty 14k diamond ring in just over 30 minutes plus 18k John Denver style gold rim glasses and a 14k earring. That was exciting. My best day was when another guy was detecting ahead of me and found a very expensive ruby ring at a boat launch and got so excited he left all his other finds behind in a pile on a picnic table. It was mostly 10k necklaces and rings but it was a lot of weight. I have no idea who he was but never saw him again and waited awhile but he never returned. He had a very expensive detector but it was in 1996.

      I wore out a few Tesoros back in the days too. I have a Tesoro graveyard in the back of one of my closets I have not seen in years. Those old coils become untuned if they sit for a while because of the styrene in them deteriorates. I do feel sorry for the guy who left his gold finds at the lake for you(just a teeny bit).

      @@PaystreakSuperfreak I started with an old Whites Coinmaster in the 1970s and was blown away when I saw the Bounty Hunter in Radio Shack in 1996 because it had a simple target ID. I couldn`t believe it. And it was very accurate on coins. I`d mop up all the quarters at places first, then go back and dig the dimes and nickels and hunt for rings. I`m still amazed by target ID. All the quarters came out of the ground jet black. 14 years later before I moved I was still seeing those black quarters circulating. I bought a lot of beer with them.

    Total agree. Reading the sound is like looking at a ground radar. I used older Tesoro machines for the last 25 years. The VID is interesting, but I can guarantee you, I could detect even if I was blind. The tones, chirps, bip, sweep of the music.. are everything you need. To me, VID is just a gadget that makes people buy fansy detector. There's a lot of miss conception about detecting, VID is one of them.
    Please Freak, try to cover the miss conception of going for deep target. Often I run my Tejon set the minimum sensitivity. This seems completely counter intuitive at first because the deeper the better, right? Actually, running your detector at low sensitivity has the same effect as using a small coil: less falsing, better stability and much better separation..
    Great video.

    For all the treasure hunters that have some hearing impairments, it will be difficult to ascertain those 5 dimensions of tone that Jeremy listed…..with that said, the new Minelab manticore, with its Target Trace capabilities, can give you most of those tonal dimensions in a visual layout…..you just have to understand what the screen is telling you….the target tracing is especially useful for co-located targets of different conductivities…..this new technology may not help a guy like Jeremy who has a good ear and understands his machines very well (not to mention digs lots of different conductive targets), but it may be a key piece of technology that can be utilized by individuals with lesser skill sets.

      As one of those hearing-impaired detectorists, I can vouch for this. And Manticore's new 2D screen looks more intuitive than Deus' XY.

    Masking is a major issue as well which I experienced in a big way a few weeks ago. I was going along with the Nox and got a definite foil/small gold tone numbers around 3-4 solid. Dug the target and sure enough, heavy foil. Replaced the plug but didn't set it and swung over it again and got a perfect mid tone 21-22. I was surprised at the masking that the foil had over this zinc penny. Opened the plug back up and retrieved the penny. This time when I put the plug back I set it with my foot. As always out of habit, I swung over the set plug and got a beautiful low tone 8-9 in the exact same spot. I opened the plug and just a little deeper sat a nice stainless steel spinner ring. My emotions were mixed at this point because I was happy about the junk ring, but realized that IF I WANT TO BE CERTAIN I have to dig every target to eliminate the possibility of masking which I wasn't too excited about. I have always known that masking is an issue but never had an example like this. Not one of those targets gave any type of clue as to the target below them regardless of which direction I swung UNTIL I dug that current target. All this said, I still find comfort that this situation is rare and I don't eliminate everything for the sake of possible masking as that will depend highly on where I am hunting and how much trash there is. But yeah....targets masking other targets is a very real deal.

    • @PaystreakSuperfreak
      @PaystreakSuperfreak  Год назад

      That is an awesome example you explained. There is so many masked targets out there. your situation is a great example on why you cannot replicate the real world on bench tests, there is way too many scenarios. Thank you so much for your comment!!

    Excellent video and explanation, Jeremy. I do have a question. I have about 50 hours on my new legend and seem to prefer 6 tones with iorn volume at 7 and the rest at 10 with varying pitches and notched down to 8. I hunt mostly city parks and tot lots like you. Would I be better off using 60 tones? I try not to look at my VDI and have been doing pretty well at identifying before digging. I want a smaller coil since I hunt with the stock 11” but want to hold out for a possible elliptical coil release since I don’t like the design flaw of the 6”.

    • @PaystreakSuperfreak
      @PaystreakSuperfreak  Год назад +2

      If 6 tone is working for you...learn that better, you can try 60 tone at anytime on the trashy sites. The mid size coil is just around the corner, so just hang tight. The 6" coil is very good but that design flaw drives me nuts.

      I have been detecting for about 30 years. You will learn the tones on your detector. Each detector has it's own tonal nuances.

    This was most useful. Thank you. I have been using an AT Pro for two years now and have come to reply on the tone almost exclusively. You mention, however, that you tune or set up your detector. What machines do you recommend if one wants to set up their detector more exactly. There is not much to setting up an AT Pro, unless of course, I have not figured it out yet. I know of detectorist who occasionally uses some of the newer detectors, but he almost always goes to his trusty AT Max and he does phenomenally well. Again, I really appreciate you taking the time to explain the five factors.

    • @PaystreakSuperfreak
      @PaystreakSuperfreak  Год назад +1

      It does not make much difference which detector you use. It is mostly preference on ergonomics, weight and durability. Metal detector pretty much do the same thing if you have the right size coil and have it tuned into the site.

    • @thomasmcconnell2898
      @thomasmcconnell2898 Год назад

      @@PaystreakSuperfreak Thank you for replying. Is "tuning into the site" largely ground balancing? On the AT Pro I use the Pro Mode. I can change frequencies to help with EMI and adjust iron discrimination and raise sensitivity, but don't think the AT Pro has much else. I am learning by tone.

    • @PaystreakSuperfreak

      Those steel cored coins are a pain for most detectors. Higher frequencies work better for those coins. Usually I think I am digging up a bottlecap when I find those steel coins. Good luck!!
