Your about 5 months ahead of me, I had the simplex for 2 months and the legend for 1 month, also in ontario (simcoe county), I found some good stuff at the local ribfest grounds, so if you have one of those in your place of residence I suggest hitting it up The legend is nice, but I need to update mine its running an old version of software, but I dont have a windows computer to update it,my computer runs Linux I dont drive but I could take lynx transit across simcoe county, I plan to hit the beach at waubashene soon as the bus stops a 5 minute walk from the beach there I also bought a off brand ebike, but I dont trust it to go to far and not run out of battery Found anything nice with the legend since you made this post?
I have found that when the vdi is all over the chart on a particular target that I can change over to a single frequency to cross check it and usually the single frequency will tighten the vdi number down to within plus or minus 5
Thank you for your expertise. I just ordered my Nokta Makro Legend. It will be here in Monday, Feb. 20, 2023. I an nit wait. Trying to learn all I can before I even get my machine. I have been using a White's SpectrumXLT for the last 25 years!! Got the Legend so I have a better beach machine for my trio to Florida in Sept. 2023. Thank you brother, beautiful family too!! Great kids!!
Wow, really appreciate you taking the time to pass down all of your detecting knowledge to us, I didn’t realize it was this complicated. Your children did a great job. 👍🏼
Just bought the Legend and the target ID Bible ebook as my first detector. Going to check out the world’s longest freshwater beach in my hometown of Wasaga Beach ON Canada. Thank you for all the great videos and resources and helping me make the decision on the Legend!
New detectorist, 71 year old veteran just outside of Chicago, bought the Legend heavily based on your comments, the concern the company has for providing a quality product and their reacting to legitimate customer concerns. I will be going detecting with a fellow 74 year old veteran so he can provide cover fire while detecting the Chicago beaches, just kidding about the cover fire, I will have body armor. OK not funny. We are considering matching Grumpy Old Men hats and T-shirts. As a fellow Mexican Pizza aficionado I was at Taco Bell yesterday and when I asked for a Mexican Pizza I was told they would be available again May 10th 2022!!! I have learned a lot about detecting from all your past videos but the light hearted tone seems subdued lately. It’s none of my business but I hope all is well with you and yours. Thanks for all the great info and laughs! The laughs are what separate your videos from the pack. That and you usually don’t dig holes the size of a Volkswagen to get to the target. Your helpers are also top shelf people. I did buy the target ID bible and it has also has a plethora of helpful info. Brad Bremer PS I can see by your "group metal detecting hunt" video, uploaded after this comment, that you guys are fine and it will only get better from here. Congrats on the shorter drive.
Thank you so much Merrill! This has been so useful for Legend owners including your other video on using all metal to not miss gold. Truly appreciate your time and passion!!
I love your passion and enthusiasm. it's inspiring ,fascinating, and interesting information. You have helped me in selecting my first metal detector. Thank you from New Zealand ❤
Thanks for the great video. Hardest thing for me is going from my makro racer 2, nokta fors relic, and simplex lite (1-99) scale to the legend (1-60) scale. To start im just adding 40 to the legend to get an idea. I know its not perfect because of the programming but also like all should with a new detector to them is dig everything thays not a grunt tone and learn yourself for your soil
Thank you Merrill. I really appreciate you and your children taking the time to put out this video. You have saved me hours of doing my own tests. Brett
Son of a gun Merrill, I cant imagine how much editing you did for that video! What an excellent resource for referencing and putting things into perspective when it comes to the LEGENDS VDI SCALE. I think I feel alot better about the ever changing #s now. I don't have an EQ 800 and I hear the EQ800 does a fantastic job at eliminating bottle caps or should I say a better job at digging less crowns. If the legend is the 800s competition, then I can expect to see more improvements in the bottlecap arena, thanks again! And a special shout-out to your kids from the MiningMonkey in California.
wow. this is just great.. will be purchasing the guide, and skip the quarter pounder meal! thanks so much. This is one of the most helpful videos I have ever seen- very helpful.
Every metal detector sends magnetic frequencies in the ground , and when it hits metals it creates eddy currents , so it measures signal timing from coil to controls , iron has a slower transfer rate than silver , gold has a slower transfer rate than higher conductive metals, when the eddy current hits a ear ring that's not a closed loop or a ring that is cracked and not a closed loop , the eddy currents gets distorted, that's why it's tricky pulling them , 360 degree scan helps, you explained alot thanks for showing the vdi's scale on the legend, very cool.
Just got your book after just getting my legend. Thanks for the time you have put into all of this. I’m coming from the nox 800 and wanted some inside info. Happy hunting

This is a very interesting and well done clip. If I get a legend I will purchase your PDF. Question. Why have you picked the legend to do this intense experiment. Your data is impressive
@@MetalDetectingNYC thank you for your time and hard work. I will be looking for your other three clips. Been watching your for a few years now. Enjoy life
Good video Merril, I think I will stick with the nox for now. A good friend just got a legend though. It will be interesting to see what machine you end up using as your standard.
I noticed you had two musket balls in the low range. One of them looks just like one that I found in the middle of nowhere in the northern Arizona desert. After seeing this I thought to myself aren’t musket balls made of lead? So I took a magnet to mine and it stuck like glue. Further research lead to thinking of two different possibilities, maybe it’s either a meteorite or what was called iron cannon shot. What do you think? Have you tried a magnet on yours yet? Thanks you so much for the diligent work done on your videos, it’s helped me to really understand what I’m doing at an accelerated rate. I’ll always smash the like for you. 👍🏻
I got a screaming 32-40 that I need to dig out. No ferris bars. The ring bars are always all 5. Goldfield mode SCREAMS at me. I swung over a did gold ring and it came up the same way.
I defiantly have my eyes on the Legend I currently have the Equinox 600 and I love it but I am seriously considering buying another and seriously considering getting the Legend. But if I fond enough gold this summer them I would sell and get the Deus 2 instead.
First- this is my favorite detecting RUclips channel. Now the question, my legend came with the 6” sniper coil. Opinions? I live outside Nashville so mostly fields around here. Will that effect these readings? Or just less coverage? Thanks!
I wanting to get a newer detector, I have a Garrett AT Max now, I’m thinking of getting either the legend or the equinox 700 could you help me out? I have watched a lot of your videos and love the all, I live in Florida and plan on using it mostly at the beach. Thank you Merle.
Thanks for the videos I was loving my legend until I was teaching a few friends how to get started with their new simplex so I had mine and left my legend in my truck someone broke in and took my brand new legend I maybe had 10 hrs on it
Hi Merrill, a friend of mine is using the mine lab vanquish and he is wondering if he could use the equinox bible for the vdi numbers, would the two be interchangeable? I myself, am using the legend. After getting the Bible for the legend, it changed the way I metal detect in a positive way. FYI the vanquish is a 540. Hoping to hear back from you. A big fan. Tony
I was reading up on Minelab MF machines and they use an advanced method to get TIDs using MF. My Nox 800 easily grabs stable TIDs but my Deus1 struggles. My opinion the Nox is very good at getting stable TIDs I cannot say anything about the D2 yet but maybe TID performance is one for a video. Also my D1 menu has settings that interact with other settings but the Nox settings are independent. Nox- easy to set up complicated programs - D1 complicated to set up simple programs. The D2 has a similar menu. And I suspect I can set programs on the Nox I cannot do on the Deus machines. However I will have a another try of a D2 because we all want to have a selection of great detectors👍👍
I just commented on another video but I want to pull the trigger on this detector the legend " new generation " I just want to be sure about the machine before I drop 600 on it
Does old nail ring up the same as pennies on this machine? I have problems with old nails in the yard I’m detecting. I’m very interested in this machine or the Equinox
It took me a while to get comfortable with a metal detector in my hands in public. But im GLAD I did. My suggestion is find a friend to go through the learning curve with you. I did it alone for a while but its better with friends. Start by asking for permission to a place that you are comfortable. Look up the local rules for permits. If all else fails wait for the winter and do the woods.
We are still in negotiations with the shaft company for the price on the shaft. The scoop is going to be in the low 200’s barring a drastic price shift for the new and improved connector. This will fasten it better to the carbon fiber shaft and eliminate the wobble. The shaft is going to be made with thick carbon fiber to prevent cracking and we are aiming for it to retail in the low 100’s. We should also have other options for anyone who doesn’t want to pay for carbon fiber. What we are aiming for is a formidable tool that efficiently moves and sifts sand, no give in the handle, lightweight and built to last.
Hi Merrill, could you create a video review & test the nokta legend with the new software update rev. V1.10 please. I'm considering purchasing this unit and would value your opinion.
Great job Merrill! I'd like to point out though, in the beginning, you said you were going to mainly test in Park mode, but I noticed all the coins were tested in Field mode. Since, according to the manual, it only mentions a difference in the VDIs between the two in lower VDI numbers, it probably doesn't make any difference. Is yours flashed with v1.07?
@@MetalDetectingNYC I'd be interested to see how your detector works in a field now that you have updated the version. Mine seemed to be much quieter in the previous versions. It's now extremely chatty.
I know this isn't about the detector, but I saw your speakers at you home and I believe they are M&k speakers. If they are, how do you like them? Sorry lol ...I also love high end audio.
Not for nothing, but there are many other great machine out there for the same price and more which do not have ID numbers called anolog, I love these also and have done very well for me. What are your thoughts and how do you compare these type of anolog machines to digital ones? Just saying....
A friend of mine gifted me a Minelab sovereign. The shaft broke but I am in the process of replacing it. I can’t wait to use it. I started detecting in 2012 so the comparison that I can speak of is the at-pro, Minelab Explorer era detectors versus the current ones. The difference that I see is VASTLY superior separation and moderately better depth. Having all this said I am looking to go further back in time with the Sovereign to answer that.
Soo if you have limited free time, its safe to say you shouldnt be digging 1 to 20 Ids in beach? i mean there is still gold there but so little compared to all the aluminium foil there is in beach.
Purchase The Legend Target ID Bible Book: www.iratemetaldetectors.com/product-page/nokta-makro-legend-target-id-bible

Some days I dig the midtones some days not...a guy can only see so many pull tabs and can-slaw before you start to question your life choices :)
I wanting to get a newer detector, I have a Garrett AT Max now, I’m thinking of getting either the legend or the equinox 700 could you help me out? I have watched a lot of your videos and love the all, I live in Florida and plan on using it mostly at the beach. Thank you Merle.
Thanks for the videos I was loving my legend until I was teaching a few friends how to get started with their new simplex so I had mine and left my legend in my truck someone broke in and took my brand new legend I maybe had 10 hrs on it
Enjoyed watching this one! The science of conductivity & mass really morphs the mind & VDI. Your kids are awesome dad! 👍
Thank you Jim!!!
Hey! The price went up on the booklet! LOL But thanks for putting these out!
A big fan. Tony
Yes!
Lol yes we do!!!
What about coins that are being MASKED by bottle caps, foil or can slaw affect the target ID? How well does the Legend handle that?
This video is a case study of just that ruclips.net/video/Ek1_rRYwLKo/видео.html
I just commented on another video but I want to pull the trigger on this detector the legend " new generation " I just want to be sure about the machine before I drop 600 on it
Link doesn’t work! How can I get a copy of the id chart ??
Does old nail ring up the same as pennies on this machine? I have problems with old nails in the yard I’m detecting. I’m very interested in this machine or the Equinox
The thought of not having many places detect without breaking the law is scaring me away.
How much is the scoop, handle etc.
@@MetalDetectingNYC Thank You Merrill
Hi Merrill, could you create a video review & test the nokta legend with the new software update rev. V1.10 please. I'm considering purchasing this unit and would value your opinion.
Great job Merrill! I'd like to point out though, in the beginning, you said you were going to mainly test in Park mode, but I noticed all the coins were tested in Field mode. Since, according to the manual, it only mentions a difference in the VDIs between the two in lower VDI numbers, it probably doesn't make any difference.
Is yours flashed with v1.07?
Now I have 1.07 but the test went on in the earliest version.
@@MetalDetectingNYC I'd be interested to see how your detector works in a field now that you have updated the version. Mine seemed to be much quieter in the previous versions. It's now extremely chatty.
I feel the creeps. Cutest thing I’ve heard Hopefully will be my next detector thanks
How can I get a copy of ur Bible looks awesome 👌
what is better the Simplex+ or this legend because the Simplex+ rocks
I put my full write up here www.iratemetaldetectors.com/
Do you have target ID nos for simplex?thanks.
Dumb question but how to read the ebook when i buy it? Kindle work?
I know this isn't about the detector, but I saw your speakers at you home and I believe they are M&k speakers. If they are, how do you like them? Sorry lol ...I also love high end audio.
I’m not sure….They belong to my father-in-law
@@MetalDetectingNYC oh well, just was wondering. Keep up the good vids, I love your editing. Don't know how you fing the time to put that together?
Another great video!
@@MetalDetectingNYC If I come visit Brooklyn my home town again this summer, I would like to go out on a hunt with you and your friend some time.
Purchased a legend after going to your website. Also others input too. First half hour found a chunk of cast iron and a dime. Thanks for your videos.
Hi Merrill, with the New 1.11 Update has that or would that update have changed any of these VDI readings or test results?
Any plans to do the same ID bible for the Deus II
Yes
If you "dig everything", how important is target ID?
I think perhaps this illustration is to merely bolster the "dig everything" argument
It's kind of obvious that size matters more then composition when it comes to silver coins.
Did you create a custom profile for coins? Or did you use the factory settings?
Thanks for an excellent, helpful video.
Soo if you have limited free time, its safe to say you shouldnt be digging 1 to 20 Ids in beach? i mean there is still gold there but so little compared to all the aluminium foil there is in beach.
