Elvis was Far more than the greatest entertainer of the 20th Century. He not only changed the rules - he made them. Presley was a force that will never be replicated.
Elvis put the blues in the blues to the blues with the blues man. I mean, he and the band played it dirty, every single note man. This is about as blues as it gets, and that sax solo by Boots Randolph...... man, this is blues power at it's best!!! Goddamn this song is awesome!!!
Like Elvis made that great gospel album, he could have done an entire blues album and it would have been epic. He was so versatile, he was so much more than rock n roll and I think he would have loved to branch out if Tom Parker would have just let him do his thing. How many people on this planet could seriously sing the blues on one album, then opera the next. Elvis could have done an opera album too. It's Now Or Never is proof of that.
Couldn’t agree more. In fact I think that rock and roll doesn’t showcase his voice. Perhaps that is why I’ve always been drawn to his gospel. And I have a natural inclination for the blues.
Spot on people. I've always said that it was a right downer he never made a blues album . Imagine what it would have sounded like . What a risk he took when he was conscripted . But it never mattered, he just took off where he left off . So much talent . So beautiful. I fell in love with the man 45 years ago . I was blown away. Stoll am God.bless.everyone. from Ian Palmer.
THIS is the REAL Elvis ! I need to get a new stereo so I can play my LPs packed away. I have this one in great shape purchased in 1960 the minute it came out.
This has to be the most classic blues song ever recorded. Elvis' vocals and the lyrics and the tempo and the great sax instrumental break captures the essence of what a blues song should sound like. Elvis was the greatest singer and entertainer.
I agree. Elvis also played guitar on this song. Him and Scotty Moore played rhythm guitar and the great Hank Garland played lead. Nobody could match Hank!
Hey, folks! While enjoying the King's superb singing, don't forget to pay tribute to the genius of saxophonist Boots Randolph and his fabulous solos and backing!
I can't believe that at the time of writing this, there are 48 idiots who gave this a thumbs down, obviously devoid of any taste whatsoever. Brilliant blues song, by the one peformer who will never be equalled.
This is actually pure perfection!! Elvis' voice had everything, could sing any genre, gospel which was also perfection.... but the way he could deliver a song and make it powerful n sexy with God given charisma, it's just untouchable! There will never be anything close to Elvis Presley in the history of music. Not too mention he was a very caring, respectful, God loving man! Elvis was a great human being, he was raised good and had love for all kinds of people, no matter skin color or where your from. He never gets enough credit for him as just a human being.
I was 13 the spring and summer of 1956, entered a 4 year high school that fall and turned 14 in October. It was an unbelievable time. By that time I also had all the rock a billy songs ( all on 78's mind you). The hits just kept on coming, from March of '56 on. THIS song sums up the REAL Elvis, rhythmic, bluesy, sultry, and just a little bit raunchy. Having said all that, the sweetness in his ballads was what made this young girls heart ache. Love Me, his version of Blue Moon etc.
I always liked Rick Nelson, but WHAT do you mean, that he was "better" than Elvis Presley??!! It's a pointless comparison to begin with. If anything it was Rick who came along about 1957 or so following and joining in on the Rock and Roll mainstream wave. He was nice, had a lovely voice but he wasn't Elvis and certainly not better. That's ridiculous. You can't compare or say he was better.
Wish he had sung this at Vegas, or on his concert tours. He focussed on his well known hits, thinking it was what the fans wanted, but we would have loved him to sing some of his lesser known songs. Lesser known to the public, not to his diehard fans.
David Corn if you like this take a listen to 'Like a baby' the track that precedes it on the album it came from 'Elvis is back' 1960, exactly the same blues feel to it
Elvis Presley Giving You The Blues. "Elvis Presley?!!? Elvis was a BAD boy---I LOVE Elvis!' , as Tyrone Davis said one night, here in St. Louis. Of that 1950s generation of black southern R&B and Blues performers, there was a mutual admiration society going on among singers and musicians,. Bobby Bland, BB King and others around Memphis knew Elvis had it.
Floyd Cramer, Boots Randolph and Elvis - what a combo! This is real blues. The real tragedy with Elvis is he wasn't given more deep songs with an edge like this to do - just all the bubblegum from those stupid movies. This is one of the very few great songs he had after coming out of the army. That Col. Parker might have really got him started but as his career progressed Parker's management drug it down. If he'd had the same caliber of people handling him that, say, Sinatra had, I can't imagine the heights he would have reached. Instead, we have all those stupid movies and the Las Vegas shows with the outrageous costumes and big productions that just wasn't Elvis. When Elvis' old friend Johnny Cash was down and out late in his career, Rick Rubin took him in, sat him down in a studio with his guitar and told him to sing. What happened was some of the finest work of Cash's career. Elvis should have had someone like that.
We love the films and the outrageous costumes. However we do totally agree with you that Elvis should have had someone like that. This is an AWESOME track✝️
The ‘outrageous’ costumes were what Elvis himself wanted & the musical arrangements were also what Elvis wanted. When it came to live concerts, Elvis was completely in charge of what songs he would do & what musical arrangements he would use for each song, & what costume he would wear. Colonel Parker was in charge of the business side of things …. Booking concert venues, etc, & Vernon was in charge of Elvis’ personal cash flow & paying bills etc. Elvis never bothered himself with that side of things at all, including not reading through contracts, just leaving that up to the Colonel, who doubtlessly was fleecing him right, left & centre. If Elvis had taken more interest in that side of things, reading through his contracts before signing, & choosing which of his live concerts were televised, that would have worked in his favour, financially, & he himself would probably have felt more in control of his own career, & he would not have found himself trapped for years doing things he actually didn’t want to do, like those lightweight movies which he hated doing. He had to wear jumpsuits, because he could not have danced or done the athletic things he did on stage, wearing jeans or even normal trousers, & Elvis had always like to dress flamboyantly. That was part of his stage persona. It’s a real shame he didn’t either get rid of the Colonel & got a younger manager who would have taken him on world tours, because that would have given him the motivation to ditch the prescription meds before becoming addicted to a point of his health being ruined. I think he was great in the 68 Comeback Special, where it was just him & a less than a handful of musicians playing guitar, & a drummer would have been great too. But Elvis wanted the full production to solidify the live concert image he wanted, & his fans loved it. I think if he had hired two or three really good songwriters just for himself, & perhaps not done as many Covers, that might have worked too. But at the end of the day, Elvis did it his way & he achieved huge success over two decades …. & here we are today, still enjoying him, 47 years after his untimely passing, with a younger generation now discovering the wonder of who he was.
Francis Davis, in the History of the Blues, wrote “The proof of Elvis’ mastery of blues idiom is on Reconsider Baby, a compilation of his cover songs by and/or originally sang by Arthur Crudup, Lonnie Johnson, Lowell Fulton, and Percy Mayfield, among others.on many of these Elvis gives the original performers a real run for their money…”

Yes, Elvis was pretty much at his best here -- all the more remarkable when you consider (reconsider?) that this was the last of 12 (that's right, 12) songs he recorded the night into daylight of April 3-4, 1960; at least two other songs were taped during that session that are not only considered great (if not all-time) vocal performances by Elvis (and The Jordanaires) but also show off the Nashville A-Team at their best AND were #1 hits to boot (namely IT'S NOW OR NEVER & ARE YOU LONESOME TONIGHT?); and "Reconsider Baby" almost didn't get recorded because EVERYONE besides Elvis wanted to go home (not to go to bed but they needed to clean up so they could show back up a hour later for sessions with other artists!) Oh, BTW, that sax solo of Boots Randolph's is in my humble opinion probably the best of his career -- Elvis, solo or otherwise. (Not to take anything away from "Yakety Sax" or "Crackety Jacks", but Boots sounds truly inspired here and not at all typical. [A more familiar type of solo from Boots can be heard on "I Feel So Bad" or "Come What May".] ) This is Elvis Presley at or near his zenith as a singer artistically.
Many a good comment here by you Stegall. I gave it a thumbs up. However, be sure to listen to Boots' truly sublime interpretation of "Smoke Gets in Your Eyes." You'll love it too! Cheers!

This is a great cover of Lowell Fulsom's 'Reconsider Baby'. Elvis was known best for his rock and roll but he could really get down with down home blues.
I didn’t know much ‘bout EP but the upcoming movie looks great, hope it won’t be too controversial. He was a Human being and loved music also lost he’s twin, that must have been hard. This song is Amazing.
@@Nadd1013 I've seen the movie, and I thought the first maybe 20 minutes of it was a little campy, a little too "lighthearted", but after it got to the more serious parts of Elvis' life it got really good. Overall it's well done, Austin Butler deserves an oscar for it.
Great song, great version - but dangerous. Whenever my wife and I dance to this song at home things get rather heated and out of hand during the sax break!
Incredible Blues! Elvis was, is, and always will be greatest singer of all time. No one else can sing country, blues, rock n roll, gospel, and entertain the way he did. Never, ever be anyone like him again. Elvis we love and miss you so very much! ❤️👑❤️👑❤️👑❤️👑❤️👑
Whether your black or white, freak, from Moscow, Paris, London or New York, Elvis Presley will always be the King of Rock'n'roll to me.

Mr. Jason, First let Tank You, 2'nd, Your Insight & Compassion; for a Man that may have had "Issues " which (Surpasses ) Anyone's Imagination. My Friend, You see the TREE before the FOREST, A Gift so Rare. Thru All of Presley's [Difficulties] His Voice Never Betrayed him. .. Most Grateful, J.M.S.
Agree...elvis voice may have been its best at this time..just after he came back from army
A great blues song
Great song, great version - but dangerous. Whenever my wife and I dance to this song at home things get rather heated and out of hand during the sax break!
😏
Slow and sultry...from sAx to sEx...NEVER stop enjoying it, Greetings from the Netherlands :)
That's a GOOD thang, ain't it. Good loving ALWAYS makes me feel BETTER 🤗🤗
One Elvis best songs.
Incredible Blues! Elvis was, is, and always will be greatest singer of all time. No one else can sing country, blues, rock n roll, gospel, and entertain the way he did. Never, ever be anyone like him again.
