On the 11th September 2016 we noticed a blackbird building a nest in a shrub just outside our back door. I started filming the nest being built which I thought was fascinating enough, but then.....she laid an egg. This is a short compilation of all the video footage I captured from building the nest to leaving the nest.
The first egg was laid on the 17th September 2016. The baby birds hatched on the 2nd October and left the nest on the 15th October. It was a privilege to have a sneak peek into the nest and witness the interactions between the parents and siblings.
What was not captured on video was how well the parents coordinated protecting the nest while searching for food. It was rare for both parents to be away from the nest at the same time and they usually kept guard over the nest from a fence or tree while the other went for food. It made it difficult sometimes to mount the camera without disturbing them.
I hope you enjoy watching their first 2 weeks of life as much as we did. If you are interested to see more of them, I have uploaded the raw footage also on my Channel. Животные
Oh thank heavens. I had some blackbird babies in my backyard. They were gone after only a month, I thought something happened but I realise that they just grow up so fast
A black bird baby that I rescued flew away a few days ago. He/she looked exactly like them, so glad that they grow up fast, it broke my heart when I found him/her gone, it’s a lot more comforting knowing that at his age he would be leaving the nest and gaining his own sense of independence. I was beating myself up for it. Thank you so much for the splendid video.
It's 4 am and I'm watching bird videos. I would be lying if I said I wasn't entertained.
Lol I thought you said I’m 4 and was shocked at your writing skills then I reread the sentence
Lil Syrup then go to bed! 🤭😂
@@KhushiSharma-ci2kf 😂
lmao its 5 am and I m watching bird videos
Same here hahahah
It’s so cute how they fall straight asleep after using their little bit of strength to stretch their necks lol 🤣🤍
that's me after one little stretch 😂
The chick that was looking at the camera was like "guys l think we're being watched"😳
😂
Absolutely gorgeous! In awe of mother nature... no need for guide books they just know exactly what to do! 🥰

Beautifully captured, sending it to my grand kids, I am a bird’s lover and watcher, thanks for posting.
Thank you so much for this video. This is the second year I have watched it with my class. They are first graders and it goes along with our story called; The Nest. Your video and story are almost alike. We truly enjoyed it. Thank you. They also begged to watch it again.
Some of the most colorful creatures are birds. In their natural color combinations, inspiration can be taken almost as endlessly as in flowers.
I didn’t realise how entertaining this was until it got sunny and I sit out side everyday and theres a birds nest in my garden and the black bird that feeds the chicks scare me
Lol the baby was opening its mouth and the mom just sat on him like wait
@@arolemaprarath6615 First of all, you know nothing about me. Second, instead of spreading random hatred, educate yourself, not everything/everyone that speaks Arabic is related to the religion of Islam. Devote your hatred for reasons better than a language spoken, okay?
@@arolemaprarath6615 You can't go around assuming Arabic speaking people are necessarily Muslim. You have a problem with Islam, go talk to Islamic apologists, don't hurl your opinion at Arabic speaking people commenting on a bird video.

this is so amazing! i love watching the blacbirds in my garden they are always so busy probably doing this feeding their babys. Such clever animals
This is beautiful! They are little predators, but so defenseless when young. What I find so sweet is that the adult bird that we see is what they will grow into. That adult was just like them (not so long ago).
Yuck 🤮
2:13 - 2:24 - you can actually see the food moving inside the chicks body. Amazing footage!
Truly magnificent video of their growth👌🏻💕I have a resident male who joins me every morning while I have coffee. We chat over daily affairs...well I chat, he listens, lol. Finally paired up this Spring & she moved in & had babies. No joke, both mum & dad came to me one morning both alarmed. Realised one of their babies was stuck in the garage & let him or her free. Family reunited. Also became Bird Nanny to a spotted dove fledgling who was bailed up by my dogs. Became babysitter for a solid week while it patiently waited to gain strength enough to become independent. Mum & dad continuing to care for it too. Family now doing well, so much so that mum has now nested again. Looks like she sees me as a good back up too as she has now taken to nest in my pagola where I sit daily only a metre away. Currently waiting for new babies to hatch literally just above me. My backyard has become quite the Bird Nursery this year🐦🐣💛
Thank you. It's pretty special when your local animals get to know and trust you. All the best for your next batch of fledglings.🐣
How does it take them like 15 days but it takes us 18 years to leave our parents
Michelle No LOL. You forgot the question mark.
AvPfan 06 no I didn’t
It doesn't.
I'm 28 and I still live with my parents.
You made me laugh.. its true, nature is Gods wonder.. a horse get up n walk within few minutes, birds fighting as soon theupy born ( eagles) geeses are whoever survive, and etc, but us we dont even roll u ntil 3-4 mo. Walked at 11 mo and dont talk til 2 perfect, or understandable, and we try to leavehome but we cant till you really 18, and ger married legally and fair u til 21-25 we dont have kids still 13-60; myniece was 13 and when i was pregnant for my first i was 22 n the lady next to me was 60 with her 15 child, dont ask me i was in silence .. it seems nature is faster than us.. lolol
Theyre smaller than us maybe thats why they can have more kids
Something similar happened to me. My family left out the Christmas wreath from two years ago, and just this year when I got back from the Philippines, there was a nest, and three little baby birds in it! It took probably, almost, the same amount of time it took for these little guys to grow! I late found out that they were House Finches. I'm so happy that I got to see them grow.
A few months later (last month) I asked my mom if we were gonna get another wreath to leave out for the birds XD.

My daughter ( who is only 3 ) loved this film, we have our own blackbirds and Dunnocks to watch in our garden in the UK. Thank you for making my daughters day.
I'm so glad you liked it. It was fun to make. Sorry for the late reply.
@Jamie live in the UK too!! We have new chicks in the nest in the hedge, and we have 7 blackbird nests so far in our garden! All the best for you and your blackbirds and dunnocks
AAAAAAWWWWW CUTENESS OVER LOAD!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL at 3:18 mumma was like here u go...NOPE never mind its yours now xD
Its so cute how they go to open their mouths, then they get tired and rest their adorable domed heads.
Yeah i agree i love 🐦 they are cute but the birds that frighten me is vultures and owls
I have a blackbird nest on my balcony right now :) they are at day 6 :) there are 4 younglings and i am helping the parents with fresh water and some seeds and fruits. The female just adores strawberries :D I love them
How are they now?
@@gooeyfan767 haha funny coincidence that you're writing - we have a new nest (2nd so far)! Today the mom laid the first egg :)
Really enjoyed your video. I can't believe they left the nest before they even got their tail feathers! Thanks for sharing.
Found one and got no idea how old she was until I watched your video 🥰
What a beautiful video. We have blackbirds nesting in our plum tree and the parents are still feeding the babies at more than 4 weeks old!
In my home too, the mother bird with broken leg still feeding her newly hatched baby birds, mothers love😍🐥♥️🐦.
It amazes me how fast they can go from “I sleep” to “FUCKING FEED ME!”
Gotta love the way mom birb just shoves the insect down the hatchling's throat.
"gulp it down little prick!"
Such a great video. We've been lucky enough to have blackbirds nest the last few years, and I use your video as a guide as to what stage the nestlings will be at, day by day 🙂
Wonderful filming! Thank you. We have a blackbird nesting on our patio. She is not bothered by us even when we use the barbeque just a few feet away. This is a new experience for us. After your info we know what to expect. Alan Scott, Wanganui, New Zealand.
I've only just begun to get interested in birds and really appreciated your film as I have had a regular pair of Blackbirds in my small area of the garden. I had no knowledge of how they brought up their young ones until now...I'm truly grateful, Thank you!! Michael
"1:56"
The baby yawns or idk but it was sooo cutee!! :3 .,.
Truly amazing how FAST they grow!!
such a well shot video. well done mama blackbird!!!!
So lovely! It's wonderful to be able to follow the progression of how these chicks developed. Thank you so much for sharing this. I absolutely enjoyed watching.
Glad you enjoyed it!
These videos are awesome. Birds always make nests in my moms hanging plants and I always like to watch their progress!
5:29 *Bird on the left:* Stop scweaming I wanna sleep 😴
omg they really grow so fast? i thought they needed like 4 weeks or something
Brilliant. Thank you for sharing. Life and living will always be a mystery. Don't believe anybody who tells you they understand it.
Well done, what a wonderful video! We really loved watching the baby birds grow up.
The perfect ending would be to watch the three of them fly away, but I realise that could be hard to film.
That was incredible. I recently retrieved an old nest from an abandoned farmstead and purchased two replica Blackbirds eggs - it looks and feels great. This video filled in a lot. Many thanks. Mark
i like how the birds feeding the 2 and letting the third starve
Well technically the parent know what kid is starving so they feed them
7:40 lmaaoo that grandpa hair
Sophovot lmao
The more they grew the louder their chirping got ❤️❤️❤️🐦🐦
yup, i noticed that too!😊😊
Grest video. Love how they start flapping their wings testing them out!!
Wow! How splendid! We have over six in our garden! This video is heart warming!
Iv sat and watched every bit of this. What a brilliant job. Iv got three eggs ready to hatch amd bought a wildlife camera so I’m hoping to catch the same. Nature is so wonderful
So cute birds they are waiting for their food
absolutly awesome! loved this so did my little girls. Thanks
This is really neat, thanks for sharing! I've got some baby blackbirds living on my porch and it's interesting to see their development from a different point of view
Why do I love watching birds? Always late at night.
We have a blackbird nesting in plain view it’s awesome
7:43 We've been spotted!
Thank you for a lovely video.
Love this video. Thank you for sharing.
I love blackbirds!!! They have so much character! We have a resident male who is so sneaky. If we leave the front door open then he comes in and steals the cat biscuits lol! Honestly it's at the point now where the cats actually see him as part of the family and not a prey item.
What a cheeky bird. That would make for a funny video...Thanks for sharing.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video from start to finish 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
There was a Blackbird family on a lemon bush that my parents hat planted in the backyard and in that area a the female had been makimg the nest and she used mud on the top I myself had seen the Adult Female holding something that was light from the ground in it's mouth. Plus the Nest was next to my mom's bedroom and right outside the window in her bedroom, and on the right from what the window is showing was the nest. I even saw the 3 chicks opening mouths for mom and dad to feed. We did not see the chicks from day 1, instead from day 6 they have left on November 14 3 days ago but the blackbird mom and dad still are there probably having a nest somwhere else. Btw thx for the video.
Awesome video!
So cool
This was SO WONDERFUL. Thank you for sharing this video and for your obvious love for the birds!!
thanks. beautifully documented.
Amazing video!!
What a great video!
Wow, beautiful video
When the babies open their mouth each day...its like..they are screaming haha

Nice video. It's soothing our eyes
Baby bird: FOOD FOOD FOOD!!

Baby bird FOOOOOOOD!
Mommy bird: *randomly sits on them*
(Next day)
Baby bird: FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!
Mommy bird oh they what food
(Finally mommy gets them food)
But baby bird keeps tumbling over each other
THE REAL MOMENT OF IT: 2:55
How lovely. Well done.

Too cute. Merci beaucoup!
Teaching my great nephew about birds. So happy this video came first. He really enjoyed watching the baby birds
So precious!
Wow! Nature is so incredible.
thanks for this video! my cat brought in two bald/fuzzy hatchlings (naughty thomas...) and i needed to see how mummy bird would be caring for them! i hope harper and winnie fledge safely when the time is right though they appear to be 3 days old at the moment!
I found a baby robin in my backyard fallen from its nest. I didn’t know what to do because if I took it and put it somewhere safe the mother would attack me, but I took it to this little cage thing in my shed. He’s still In it and I feed him worms and bird feed! Edit: he is still in the cage, and almost fully grown. I take him outside every now and then to get him used to the big world.
That Guy Over There should of gave it to me so I could of feed it to my rattle snake
Ed Garcia feed yourself
Omg...so beautiful.
Wonderful job, You captured it all I wish I would have covered mine last year so well. It happened wher I had music and my cup of tea, there she made a nest and stayed till the end. Life felt good and pleasent it made me appreciate nature even more!
I have a birds nest next to my patio.
Thank You, it brings tears to me, memories are so short but nature is giving back over and over but You have to be there and absorb it all! I did and You did for sure and so much better!
I saw Your reply and I appreciate even more, tears of joy and life must go on and it will and should. I am more happy to have witnesses You did better than me! That is great, be happy for the short time of life. It is little things that makes it big!
