The greatest thing about these cards is that you can create your own multi-angle stream on the cheap. I've done streams with two cheap cards and one Elgato 4K, it works really well. The Elgato has less audio lag and is cleaner in the shadows and colors, but the cheap card is great for starting and experimenting. (Your available light matters more than the quality of the cards.)
Cautionary note: been using my canon m50 as a webcam and a dummy battery with ac power supply. Remember to turn everything off when not in use as I think I’ve burned out the sensor and my camera freezes with a green display!
I picked up that same cheap one a few months ago. Never had a single issue with it. I wouldnt recommend plugging a game console into it for like twitch. You will notice it skips frames. But for cameras, it works perfect.
I own a few capture cards, the Elgato by far produces a better image and color. What I noticed with this card thats mentioned and with the other cheapo ones I’ve purchased is the colors are extremely washed out. Now that I need an camera for my streams I’ll be moving to the Black Magic ATEM mini pro for better control and output as well as color correcting on the fly while streaming.
i dont know what kind of washed out it is, but i think it could be fixed by putting some saturation / contrast / etc filters on the capture card footage, not sure though
If Im not mistaken, when using Cano DSLR cameras, you actually dont need a capture card. If you have a mosel that is supported, the have Free software that allows you connect directly to your PC
I have one EOS77D and it doesn't do higher than 720p, in fact I believe it's slightly below (1024x576 when I look up on OBS). Either USB limitations or Canon's not so great drivers.
These capture cards are an excellent value. I've got two that I've been using since summertime and have been pushing all of my conference calls and livestreams with them for the past six months! In this video, the elgato has a nice, neutral look but it's not enough to compel me to spend the money. In addition, if you were looking to get two elgatos, at that price, you might as well spend a little bit more for the Blackmagic ATEM Mini.
I have an old Canon 1100D that my sister out-law gave to me, it was not used for quite sometime and now I intend to use it as a webcam (aside from practicing photography again),... this may be a good widget to maximize the camera for live streaming and zoom meetings.
The only thing that I have personally found not so great with the cheaper option is that after some time the capture card begins to produce a ton of screen tear and outputs around 15 fps instead of 30. I have had it for around 6 months and only now is it beginning to get to this point, but it is worth considering that with the cheaper card you will probably have more issues and glitches 👍
The computer you use play a big part as well. I used the same device on 2 different computers. On my laptop the fps was capped at 30fps. On my gaming rig I'm able to record in 4k 60fps stable. It all depends on the computer. Yes OBS is capable of recording in 4k. You have to manually type in 3840x2160, 4k is not in OBS options but if you type in 4k resolution it works. My capture card was only $18. 4k 60fps is good for $18.
I have a Sony A6300 and can use it as a webcam via the USB cable provided by just installing the free software from the Sony website (after which my camera is recognised as a webcam by Zoom and other conference call software). Why would I need to buy another piece of hardware to convert HDMI to USB? What am I missing?
I wasn't sure if you could also receive audio from this. Love the channel guys. Thanks for the great information and presentation Think Media team and Omar.
Omar, thanks for the video. My big problem is that I do not have a camera with a clean HDMI. Could you give me a tip for the cheapest camera with clean HDMI output, please?
You mentioned audio can be obtained from the Canon M50 via the CAM Link card via the HDMI cable. When I first tested this last year, the Canon M50 did not send any audio through the HDMI port on the camera. I just upgraded the firmware on the M50 to v1.1.0 so I decided to retest it. It still does not provide audio via the HDMI connection. The Canon EOS Webcam utility (which allows you to use autofocus and the connection is a USB connection) provides a lower quality video image and it also does not provide audio. I've always used a secondary audio source and it's necessary to adjust for the audio delay/sync in streaming app (OBS on Windows 10 in my case).
I'm having difficulty setting up m59 mark 2 on Ringtone windows 10. When I connect the HDMI cable it doesn't connect to my PC. Do I need to buy a capture card?
@@jamallogic7496 The HDMI ports on most computers are output HDMI ports, not input/capture ports. You would need a HDMI capture card to connect the HDMI output of the camera to a USB port on your computer.
The main difference between the Elgato and the cheap one was framerate- the cheap one jumped about massively (probably 30fps) and the Elgato was much smoother (probably 60fps). That said, there was surprisingly little difference between your webcam and the cheap one. I see a MUCH bigger difference between a MacBook webcam and a Canon 250D using Canon's free webcam software
Thanks for this! Just got a “no name” one for steaming jazz music and was wondering exactly what the differences were. Funny how it says 4K at 30fps on Amazon, but the box says only up to 1080p. You keep pushing the info button until things start to disappear. Indont need this for the sony zv1 right?
I use it for my zv1 but you can use the usb and the Sony webcam software
@@OmarEltakrori Thanks Omar! You guys are always so helpful
Great video Omar! Can You use two or more cheap usb capture cards at the same time to mimic multicam in OBS as example?
That should work. It would be the same as having any other usb cameras in the mix.
I would have liked to see the audio through the camera if nothing else, just to demonstrate it was in sync. It's unfortunate you just brushed it off.😕
can this be connected to an iphone to use it as a webcam?
