Hello, great informative video. A question, I want to potentially take a show that I enjoy off of my television into my computer. After watching this video and if I purchase this, how exactly do I get the sound to get transferred as well is it basic plug-and-play or is it something that I have to do specifically within my television or within this device. Any information would be helpful for reference I’m using an Emerson TV and I would like to be plugging it into my Mac air I really do appreciate it again
At last a very real world test for this what is fast becoming a "Miracle Device", it would be interesting to see what existing capture card companies think about this product, and to see how they are going to react with perhaps new offerings to persuade us to loosen our wallets. What does excite me though, is that this device has now made it possible for those individuals who may not have had the funds to purchase a decent capture device, and no doubt over the next few months we are going to see an explosion of content be it good or bad.
This little device is great, but we should keep in mind that at 1080p, it is a generation behind the resolution curve, and a generation behind on it's interface, USB 2.0. Also, it is pretty stripped down with no pass through and no ability to add anything to the HDMI signal. I imagine the big boys will be concentrating on 4K USB 3 devices with lots of bells and whistles. That being said, this little device is a game changer for anyone needing to work with 1080p or less. Converting TO HDMI has been affordable for awhile: VGA to HDMI, composite A/V to HDMI, component vid to HDMI, S-Video to HDMI, optical to HDMI, and more. Plus all the native HDMI devices like cable boxes, DVRs, Roku, Firestick, Chromecast, game consoles. But if you wanted to do more than just output the HDMI being converted, that has been a barrier. This device breaks that barrier. Thank you for your comment.

I don't use Premiere Pro, as Adobe charges for a monthly license, but it is recognized by PowerDirector as a video source. Even if edit software does not recognize it, video can be captured using OBS or the Windows Camera app, then imported into the edit software.
Only problem is that, as far as I can tell, ALL of these cheap convertors ONLY output 60fps, so if you feed them 24 fps the resulting recording has pull-down judder on it which is (also as far as I can tell) impossible to remove via any kind of conversion back to 24 fps (most people live in blissful ignorance of frame-rate issues, they're happy as long as the picture is "clear" enough).

Hi ThriftyAV, I feel like a dummy holding the cord of an electric plug asking, what do I do now? I have Corel Video Studio and it has a program for Direct Video. I also bought Easier Cap which is like Easy Cap, but with few instructions in the box, so it is not so easy. When I looked at how much free space is needed for the Easier Cap online download, and what it does I am asking why do I need to install it while Corel does all the same stuff, and is an even bigger program. I have my VHS cables and even a RCA to HDMI upscaler which is pretty cool. Better color depth on the TV! It's true! Question, what now? Is this easy cap device a Capture Device that I must use, or can I feed the raw footage to my Laptop without one of this devices? I would be happy to just dubb my old VHS to DVD, but the Cable Company won't allow more than one device so I need to digitize. Any direction on how to handle my VCR to Laptop situation is greatly appreciate.
The VCR has composite RCA outputs. Your laptop has USB inputs, so you have to convert it somehow to get it into your laptop. EasyCap devices are usually recognized by the computer just like webcams, so they will work with multiple software titles. I do not use Corel, but it should have a "capture" feature. If you are running windows 10, it comes with "camera" software that can also capture video. You can also use your RCA to HDMI converter with a HDMI capture device. I cannot tell you which method is better without testing the "Easier Cap".
I am nearly certain it is the computer software doing the recording. The USB device simply allows the HDMI content to reach the recording software loaded on the machine.

You can digitize almost any HDMI source. That being said, most VHS players do NOT have HDMI output. I have a Magnavox VCR/DVD-R combo unit that will output VHS to HDMI, but this is a rare feature. I do not know of any 8mm tape player or camcorder with HDMI output.

Most new 4k security cameras by Panasonic and Bosh used in banks and prisons are only 60fps. 90fps is only for gaming consoles connected directly hdmi4k output to Hdmi 4k input 120-600hz refresh cycle . Ignorance lays on you for trying to be smartass !! 😂😂😂😂
Nice budget capture card
Can you use it on your laptop while playing on your monitor?
Damn l never knew they built a VHS with HDMI.
Are you able to get audio through the camera app? that way I'm not recording in game silence lol please, and thank you for the help!
Through most HDMI devices, I am getting audio through the camera app.
How did you upscale the 1080p signal to 4k
What software you have installed and used to capture hdmi in to usb... recording... is it OBS screen recording and streaming software?
I would only be interested in the video grabber if it could pass through 720x576i50 (PAL).
HEllow, whith this capture device, can i capture the hdmi output signal from a pc to another pc through this device? Thank you ✌🏼
Nice but it has a little too much lag. Prob why the camlink is more money
To avoid the lag, you can run signal through a splitter before the capture device. Run one output to a "real time" monitor and the other into this capture device.
Hello! Will this device work with VLC? Thaks! :)
have you tested on your tv to see if support decoder or other devices connected on tv please need to get your feed back
New subscriber here. I am interested in recording HDMI content and this looks like an interesting device. What I don’t yet know is what software on the PC is used to record it.
Windows Camera App works. You can install OBS open source software. The capture feature on most video editing software will also work.
@@ThriftyAV thanks for your quick reply.
Wish you spent more time with the Roku Ultra
I didn't want to trigger a copyright strike, so I just did a few seconds from the streaming channel "B Movie TV". I also tested it on Amazon Prime Video and it worked, but I did this off camera.
Copyright issues AND the fact that this bypasses HDCP RUclips might flag his video.
Can I use it on VHS or 8mm video for recording in computer
I only time I have seen HDMI output on a VHS player is with a Magnavox Dual DVD/VHS. I have never seen HDMI output on 8mm video. With VHS or 8mm, you are better off with a capture device that has the older style A/V inputs.
I want to stream over my canon legria camcorder from outdoors. So, camcorder, HDMI converter and my phone. Is it posible live streaming with that and which software for streaming cath the video on that way.... Thank you.
Man u r great...i also want capture vcr movie but u didn't mentioned about VCR TO HDMI CARD THEN PC INPUT conections
I have a different video about going from S-Video (or composite video from a VCR) to HDMI.

I really need your help! I have my Hi8 recording which I want to digitise but I can’t seem to find a method which works. So I have a VHS which can play Hi8 tapes, I connected the output of the VHS to a DIGITNow capture device which should record video+ audio for them. When using that it only displays a grey screen and only audio so no luck there. I have just bought the device you have reviewed and a composite to HDMI adapter. So I plan to use composite out of the VHS to the Composite to HDMI converter then to the capture device. Will this work?? Thanks!
Do you have a longer video on the roku capture?
I went to shop and told the guy I need to extend my 2nd monitor to laptop and need usb to hdmi . Instead they gave me this device and looted me, can I extend my laptop screen with this
I have 2 of these cheap cap cards because they run 🥵🔥🤷🏻♂️✌🏼
How do you use obs studio and play on the monitor at the same time?
With an HDMI splitter.
just assumed that if it was below $100 and/or from china it was rubbish.......am tempted to try it
wait, this little cheap thing that could???!!
i have a bit of a problem, i have an xbox 360, but i don't have a monitor, I'm thinking to use my laptop AS a monitor but after finding out laptop only have output HDMI, it won't support inputs, so maybe this thing can be used to bypass that? i am aware with the lag
Back of package does not mention lainux, but that does not always exclude lainux. Do you know if the device will mount as a UNIX file into UNIX FS?
Do we need an HDMI capture device if we can connect a camera with an iMac via a Micro HDMI Type D to Mini Display Port adapter cable?
I tried using this for some of my gaming consoles. It looks good in obs but when I record the capture and then play it back it's very choppy
Then it's most likely your capture settings, which are presumably either too low, or use a different framerate than the source video.
@@DoubleMonoLR It was my old PC it couldn't handle it and it didn't have a graphics card but thanks
Does this work as a HDMI to USB adapter?
Can I use it for gaming pc and my streaming laptop?
As long as the device you are streaming has HDMI output, then Yes.
@@ThriftyAV and the usb goes to the gaming pc or to the streaming?
When I plug mine in it’s just a rainbow screen
That's how it identifies as

Hi. I have bought the capture card. I have good sound but bad picture shake. Any advice would be great.
using one of those just to watch tv on my tablet
Is the device recording the video or is the software on the laptop recording the video?
I am nearly certain it is the computer software doing the recording. The USB device simply allows the HDMI content to reach the recording software loaded on the machine.
Is it possible to record streaming in a DVD recorder with this device? Thank you!
If I plug VGA HDMI output to this card, what will happen?
Will this work on directv box?
Hi, i've been using this for my church live streams and works like a charm, but now i need to run my camera from the audio booth all the way to the platform (around 65ft). what can i use that won't loose signal? will a fiber optic hdmi do?
I connected the laptop to PC monitor and the video is pinkish / purple now.
it was good the last time I used it connected laptop to smart TV.
Do you know what could be the issue here?
I've tried 2 HDMI cables and still the same.
Question for you. Are you able to digitize from VHS and 8mm video to digital format or is this just a recording device more for gaming?
You can digitize almost any HDMI source. That being said, most VHS players do NOT have HDMI output. I have a Magnavox VCR/DVD-R combo unit that will output VHS to HDMI, but this is a rare feature. I do not know of any 8mm tape player or camcorder with HDMI output.
@@ThriftyAV Thank you for your time and feedback regarding my question.
You need to get a rca-to-hdmi adapter
@@OIdiesCentral I wonder if you could help me. We have camcorder, I need to transfer the tapes to my laptop in order to store it on my harddrive, the camcorder is getting old now and i don't want to loose the videos on the tapes. Any advice please.
@@mariesmuts6643 I'm strugling w. the same but your best bet is to get a tuner and video card for your computer because w/o a video card,u'll be able to record in 240/320.Get a 1Gb video card and u'll be able to record in 720 with 30 frame/sec.
Can it be use to capture something streamed over a PC connected to a smart tv as a monitor
Would something like this be able to record my MacBook’s screen if I plug in an hdmi to hdmi cable?
I'm a PC guy, but I think you would need a 2nd computer. If you are wanting to capture your MacBook's screen with the same MacBook, I would look for a software option.
@@ThriftyAV That makes sense, thanks. I also discovered the MacBook’s hdmi port it output only, so software it is.
If I want to record from TV just smart TV. With no TV box . Just with normal antena . How I can record my favorite program from TV to record it on my laptop
For me it's a quick review..... What software you used to capture the camcorder... And how to capture mini tapes on laptop
Capture is the same as for any other device, so any general video on capturing video(or the help files for your software) will give you the info you need. Which software you use doesn't usually matter.
Thanks a lot, very well explained and tested.
Thank you, Tom Oluk.
Can this HDMI device capture what is playing (audio and video) on a Blu-ray DVD player with an HDMI output?
Other reviewers have said that it does. I would test it myself, but I currently have no power.
Interesting and informative, my friend, but as usual, you have ignored the tech-dummies.
The device is not plug and play. LOL 😂😂😂
Once I get past the learning curve, I will be back.... ❤👍🏿

Does the HDMI Capture device get hot? I don’t need audio as I’ll be using professional mic setup... Thanks
No, it barely gets warm. Someone else on RUclips did a torture test where then streamed with it for several days, and it worked fine the whole time.

Can I just use fit to use my chrocast on my pc
Hello! Hope you can help. Instead of plugging it to a laptop or PC, could I plug in to TV? does it work the same? (LG TV that has USB entrance, 2.0) Sorry, I am new to this.
I would not expect this to work on a TV set. The box says it is compatible with Windows and Mac.
Could i use this "HDMI Video Capture" to record PS3 gaming on TV ?
short answer Yes,
long answer is Yes but there will be input lag in the preview window, you would be better off looking for the HDMI passthrough version that's a little more expensive
