      Yes, and apparently Owen also didn't like heights; he should have never been put in that position. Here in Canada, there was a special about Owen that aired shortly after his death and in it, Martha said Owen had spoken to her about the upcoming stunt and that he had a bad feeling about it, so she told him not to do it. Owen said he had to because he couldn't back out of it at that point; this was during the Attitude Era and Owen had been approached about doing storylines he wasn't comfortable with from a moral standpoint. He was reluctant to do the stunt but felt he had to because he had said no to so many other angles and he was worried about losing his job (which makes me wonder what went on behind the scenes as far as him trying to get out of this one). Harley Race was interviewed in the special as well and he said that Owen had spoken to him earlier that day and told him how uncomfortable he was with the stunt but he was going to do it. He died for absolutely no reason.

    • @SovereignStatesman
      @SovereignStatesman 4 года назад +12

      Yeah well the Harts always tried to be their own lawyers, and that's what screwed them. Bret thought "reasonable creative control" meant that he couldn't be made to lose by submission, and Owen thought he had to serve out his contract even after the screwjob.
      Any decent lawyer could have told Bret that "reasonable" control means NO control, and told Owen that the screwjob on Bret created an anticipatory breach for him.
      They might as well have settled for a handshake, because that's what a contract is worth without a lawyer, while of course Vince had the best law firms money could buy.

    I'll never forget that night. A 6 year old child in the 10th row with his father and two brothers. I was looking down at a handheld TV trying to find a right channel thinking I could hear the commentary(I now know it was never gonna work) and I heard people gasping. I looked up and saw him hit the ropes, then hit the mat with the loudest thud ever. Even though his eyes were open but I now know he was gone just the same. My dad told us it was all part of the show as the EMTs went in to work on him. It wasn't until the tribute show the next night that I learned of his death. What's really sad is that all could've been avoided, but idiotic people wouldn't stop being idiotic.

    This Tuesday on Dark Side of the Ring is gonna be rough. 1999 was such a shitty year for me. Colombine happened. Owen's fall happened shortly after. My Dad died two months later in July. My Dad and I watched Over the Edge together. It was the last PPV/Wrestling event we ever watched. I was like 10 I think. I didn't understand what had happened. My Dad told me that the camera kept showing the crowd (after the fall) and how that only happens at live events when something bad happened. They said Owen died, but I was in denial about it. The Harts were my favorite wrestlers growing up. Still got the Mania X VHS tape. I haven't gone back to watch anything from the year 1999 ever since. Too much pain.

    There will never be another like Owen. He was very talented.
    When you hear how Owen didn't want to do this stunt and how afraid he was it makes you sad. This whole thing could of been avoided if Vince would of just respected his talent and thier wishes instead of trusting his wallet more.
    It's all about money and safety obviously takes a back seat to a McMahon payday.

    Owen must've been scared beyond belief to try that particular stunt without a safety net! I can't even imagine the sheer terror he must've felt, when the harness gave way! I'm so sorry that Owen was tragically killed by that. It has felt to me, for years, that Owen was sacrificed for some dark reason. I could go into detail, as to how I really feel about the entire thing. I won't, though. Only God knows what happened, and, if there was any kind of evil intent or chicanery on anybody's part concerning Owen's death, it'll ALL be revealed, for ALL humanity to see!

      Do elaborate if you can sir? Evil entities control the "entertainment" industries and the world I do believe and more people should be made away of that . Nobody believes that there are folks who truly worship evil but everything we have seen in our lives points to a massive cult in control of everything who routinely do these sacrifices for their goat God. Those are my perspectives as well but id like to hear anothers take who may think similarly? This incident is just like the Benoit death plus Eddie and so many others. These happenings just dont seem right and are too commonplace even Ultimate Warrior's death as well seemed off.

    But Jesse Ventura in the mid 1980s was very very close for the wrestlers forming their own union..with all the bells and whistles..
    But Hulk Hogan ratted out Jesse to Vince McMahon jr. And it was forever quashed...

      @Y Marina the only problem with what your saying is that it's a legal matter of public record under sworn oath that Vince Macmahon jr. Admitted to Venturas attorney as well as Vince's own legal team with everyone present that Hogan was one one that ratted out Ventura to Vince Macmahon jr.
      Its court reported and documented legally inside an actual courtroom so with all due respect it's not a bullshit story and it can't be dismissed as a bullshit story when it's a legal document forever in an actual court transcript.
      So the only question you need to ask yourself based on the facts are is Vince lying when he said Hogan ratted Ventura out or is Hogan lying when he said he never ratted out Ventura to Vince. Can't have it both ways..

    Of all the deaths in wrestling over the years, to me Owen's will always be the worst...so unnecessary for a throwaway midcard gimmick, so preventable, and just why Owen? Other guys like Pillman, Rude and Perfect were tragic as well of course, but you could at least rationalize them given the decisions they'd made in life and the addictions they'd developed. Owen was a clean living nice guy, and a great father and husband who deserved so much better, both in the business in life. Gone but never forgotten. RIP King of Harts.
