Bad News Brown is pound for pound one of the toughest pro wrestlers of all time. Bad News won a bronze medal for Judo in the 1976 Olympics before later emerging as a professional wrestler. Before competing for Vince McMahon in WWF, Bad News Brown (aka Bad News Allen, Allen Coage) was working for New Japan Pro Wrestling & Stampede Wrestling.
There is one particular incident that occurred on a bus ride while touring with Hulk Hogan, Andre the Giant & others. According to Bad News, he heard Andre the Giant use a racial slur and decided to confront him about it. Bad News even challenges Andre to get off the bus and fight! I worked with Bad News Brown/ Allen about 6 months before he passed. He was such a kind, down to earth guy. We would sit and he would tell me stories about his time in the WWF. He truly was a legendary dude!

Bad news brown was my first "real" favorite wrestler. When I was young, I said my favorite WWF wrestlers were Jimmy superfly Ricky the dragon and JYD, but it wasn't till bad news till I really knew what it was like to have a legitimate favorite fighter/wrestler.
Maybe cause I was a black kid and he was also black. But I don't think so cause although I said junk yard dog was my favorite, I never actually liked him even remotely close to as much as I liked Bad News.
Bad news actually seemed like tough FOR REAL! His toughnezz came through the tv screen.
He IMO is the original stone cold Steve Austin. The attitude was similar and they essentially looked the same with the same outfit. Bald headed bad ass with goatee in black trunks.

@@bacatit5935 towards the end of his life he was in poor physical condition, but when he was in his prime Andre was a beast. Not only that, but Andre had significant "soft power" he could wield with management. He was not one to mess with. This did take some balls on Brown's part.

It’s interviews like these that make me appreciate RUclips and the folks who take time to post these vids. I remember being a 7 year old fan (but quite afraid) of Bad News Brown back in 1989! For a kid whose family were the only the black family in our Yorkshire, England town, Bad News was my TV embodiment (we only had 5 channels!) of a strong capable black man; and this interview seems to bear that out. Hard to describe the feeling of watching the guy through a medium like RUclips that humanizes him and other wrestling stars of my youth (that were all larger than life). It’s surreal even though I haven’t watched a full wrestling card in almost 20 years and am now pushing 40 (as a USA citizen) lol. Thanks for posting.

@@cobracobra9175 Allen Coage was a Olympic-level Judo Player. He won bronze in the 1976 Olympics, and won gold at the 1967 and 197 Pan American Games.
Judo is a martial-art that specializes using your opponents weight against them. He was probably one of the few people that could do something to Andre. Once you get them on the ground, that equalizes everything.

Kane told a story of one wrestler sucker punching Andre at a bar, and he didn't flinch, just took another sip of the bear and calmly asked if he wanted to fight. He didn't.

I love listening to the stories these older wrestlers tell from their days as professional wrestlers both inside the ring and outside. They are so good that you wonder how much of what they say is the truth, the stretching of the truth and even some fabrication but either way, its fun to listen to what they say. A lot of this current crop of guys can learn about mic skills from these older timers. RIP Bad News Brown, shame you're no longer with us to tell more stories.

I think Andre liked Bad News Brown. Personally, I think Andre was just testing BNB, and BNB passed with flying colors. Andre seemed to like to test people's courage. When BNB finally stood up to him, Andre respected the man.
I remember back in the late 80's (if I remember correctly) when I was a kid, Bad News was the first heel I saw on WWF and he scared the sh*t out of me. That is just testament to him being such a great talent esp on the mic. Seeing him here, I know he's passed on, just makes me smile and know that he was a good man.
I have seen that match . It was so obvious that Andre was near the end of his fantastic career. Its great that both Bad News and The Giant had fixed this misunderstanding before he left for the Grand Stadium above.
He was handsome and looks very young. My first time seeing him outside of his in ring "persona". RIP, sir. 💔🙏🏻

Andre may have known it was coming, but damn, he timed it perfectly. Of all the people for it to land on, it lands on a guy called 'Bad News Brown'. That's what makes the story so perfect. Andre must have had a creative and artistic mind. It was an awful thing to happen but somehow he made it work.

By the time the Giant was dealing with injury and had much less strength, he knew to back down to guys that showed no fear. He actually has little chance with how slow and injured his back was. Times are much more sensitive today, but if you had a tape recorder back then you would hear something 'inappropriate' every 5 minutes from your favorite wrestlers.

I'm glad I was able to experience wrestling when I did. From Hulk winning the belt from Sheik, to the formation of the NWO and the Monday night wars.

Andre was cursed. He got about 10 years that he was possibly the most terrifying human being to ever live. He could do a backflip off the turnbuckle. Then the condition that made him a giant caught up to him.

Never knew Andre was racist like that, but Bad News handled it very well and actually I bet he earned mad respect for that, even from the racist fucks.
