While I agree with your point that he is not a meme. A meme, while often nowadays humerous in nature is defined as an idea or behaviour, usually of cultural significance that spreads from one person to another through repetition or imitation. So as I say I agree he in no way is a meme, however the video, his actions and demeanor certainly seem to qualify.
Actually the guy in black was heavily intoxicated, the camera is on a truck driving right in front of the technoviking, he did not ask the guy to leave he grabs him because he was about to cross the street and the technoviking sits him in the truck and tell him not to get down. he was actually babysitting this intoxicated dude. he didn't attack the girl in blue hair, he almost fell and crashed with her.
Love the technoviking original video. What a great catch, to just inadvertently film such an iconic sequence of super memorable moments is really wild stuff.
Memes existed before the internet. A meme is any pop culture reference that becomes commonplace after spreading from person to person ("going viral"). It doesn't require a video, a picture, or the internet. "Where's the beef" started as advertising, but became a meme when people starting imitating it and caused it to go viral, even without any internet or any videos. Everyone understood the reference if someone said those three words back then, and it wasn't just because everyone watched the commercial. The commercial itself spread from TV, but the meme about it spread virally by word of mouth. "E.T. phone home" and "wax on, wax off" are a couple of examples of memes from movies from the same era. Mr. T's catch phrase, "I pity the fool," became a meme back then in the same way that T-Pain's "I'm on a boat" became a meme a decade ago. A humorous photo with a caption, commonly called a meme, is not actually a meme unless it goes viral and becomes well known enough to be "a thing." "O RLY" is a meme, but most of the things posted today as "memes" are not memes. It's not a meme if it does not go viral and become a pop culture "thing."
VINOS You forgot the "But" in your post. Your post should have read: "When the Vikings have much better dance moves than you BUT they still don't realize that their tampon string is flapping in the breeze" Who knew that Papsmearviking had a vagina? Is the dancing Vaginaviking really the granddaughter of Angela Merkel?
@Blue-Eyed European Thats the thing, being German dosnt automatically qualify. Germans are not only from the germainc tribes. The germanic tribes were native to northern germany. He is a 100% certain german, but origin cant be discovered just from blue eyes and blonde hair.. As far as that goes, Theres a native tribe in south America with blonde hair and blue eyes. It was said that the first buddah also had blonde hair and blue eyes, and he is supposedly from Ukraine. Every European cant claim to be viking just because its cool. Dont steal our culture and ancestral heritage :p
I think he made his wishes known that he was not on board with the meme but I think he also became greater than the sum of his own parts. His video is that of a heroic figure defending the less fortunate all while ripping off some awesome dance moves and attracting admiration from those around him. The world needs more and more and more than this so although we understand his personal wishes circumstance drove this into the public sphere and accidentally changed the world for the better.

Sounds like Technoviking clearly did not want someone owning and marketing his image. All I can say is his friends, family, and acquaintances, know how to keep a secret.
afaik he actually pointed for him to sit down on the thing where Fritsch was sitting while filming, later in the video you can see him sitting down all sad lol
@Abhay Gurudath That isn't really a wooosh, at all. Dude is just explaining what the guy actually did. It's not like anyone is going to not understand OPs well over played joke. But what makes the joke more cringe, then it already was; Is the fact the dude literally sat down seconds after the point. These "Legend has it","Story says","Some say", jokes; only work when you have no idea what really happens after the encounter, but anyone who watched the video knows the guy sat down, so it's not funny, at all.
The festival this was filmed was Fuckparade, a political manifestation created in 1997 against the increasing commercialization of culture and public life and the misuse of the right of assembly by purely commercial ventures. So, it's kind of ironic that the biggest meme of the 2000's was someone manifesting precisely against what he himself ended up becoming. Therefore it's not surprising that Technoviking wasn't in favor of the exploitation of his image for commercial purposes! I totally support Technoviking on this! (he pointed at me once)
Also, everyone characterizes his interaction with the intoxicated person was him telling the person to fuck off. He clearly told the person to sit on the vehicle and chill out. When the camera pans to the left, you can see the person sitting there. Technoviking tells him, again, to sit down with the second point. He was looking out for his community, and he did so fairly without removing anyone's right to assemble.

Those wallets are a ripoff. They sell generic ones for a fraction of the price. I don't mean to hate on someones hustle but the things are so overpriced it is insane. It's like the company behind them has decided to sell them at such a high price hoping that they can make a huge profit on the handful of idiots that bite, rather than price them reasonably and make a smaller profit on each wallet but actually make far more money by selling orders of magnitude more of them. Man I went from being happy about this guy in the video to utterly repulsed!
I think it’s weird that Technoviking was never required to prove his identity or show up in court. How are the authorities convinced the original dancer was even behind the lawsuit, and not a money-hungry lawyer?
He wants to preserve his privacy. If his details were to be released it would go against everything he was trying to accomplish. The courts probably ruled in favour of excluding anything that could identify him. Imagine if his identity was disclosed and the hassle it would bring to his personal life. If he’s happy with his life and doesn’t want it to be screwed up then you’ve got to respect that.
Good question. Made me wonder, too. I bet the Technoviking lost his shape, and is probably a fatass now. His friends probably kept on teasing him about the video and instead of shaping up again, he thought to try to "bring the video down" and earn some money along with it to get even fatter. Also, what about other people also using the video, like this video. They're free to do what they want with it? Only Fritsch lost out for being the original uploader?

From a philosophical perspective I totally understand Technoviking he was admired for standing up against the bullies defending the powerless without any interests he was living life in a mental state of freedom dancing as nobody is watching projecting his energy, athletic physic and charisma without expecting to be recognized by it purposely, so his privacy obviously meant a lot for him, not everybody in the world wants to be famous, not everybody in the world is looking for a spotlight, not everybody in the world like to be laugh at for just being himself in the moment. Maybe we should question why is it that people sometimes do the stupidest things for a little bit of fame? why some people feel the need to be recognized for doing what's right? why some people think everything in life depends on how accepted you are in society?
Yeah, and don't forget that this must be very irritating for most Americans (including them, who do actually not understand what Freedom of Speech means). By the way, freedom of expression is also there to protect the personal rights of the individual. Here the German court decided that the latter is more worthy of protection, because without personal rights it is not even possible to express an opinion. In America, anyone can (and does, see RUclips) film and publish other people in public without being asked[1]. Freedom with the brain switched off is something very nice!:) Oh and it is irritating, too ... vice versa:) Hints: In Germany, the right to one's own image is a subset of the general right of personality protected by Art. 2 Paragraph 1 in conjunction with Art. 1 of the Grundgesetz(~= constitution). Now if someone wrote out "use to" followed by something they've done in the past, we've got some issues lol.

Personally, despite the sheer awesomeness he represented, Technoviking was a fool... He only went after the originator and not the hundreds of others... He could have remained completely anonymous, as he had for decades, and leaned into the marketing and made some cold hard cash without having to do another thing. He could have had his lawyers claim copyright for his likeness, again completely unnamed and had it removed from everywhere... or just collected cash in the bank while he did his own thing with plausible deniability... I can admire him for his fortitude and sense of privacy, but I still think he was a fool when you consider how beloved the meme and the eventual character became.
Please step out to the light Mr. Viking. We must glance upon thee... we must see the new appearance of ye. [ I picture him looking like fat Thor, just like the one from the ending of God of War].
I know this goes against the grain of internet mentality these days, but I can actually empathize with the Technoviking there. For all the people saying "he should've just played into his reputation to cash in", that's precisely what some folks DON'T want. Privacy isn't (wasn't?) just hiding your name on the internet, IRL it can mean just not wanting any fame at all. To have your face known by un unquantifiable amount of strangers just because some guy uploaded an image of you without your control or consent is not a fun thing if you're not a 'very online person.'
I one hundred percent agree, this guy saying "he should've just embraced the meme" is out of it. Some people don't want that shit and that's completely their perogative.
I can't agree, and for a very specific reason. You don't have any expectation of privacy when out in public. If this were the case, News organizations could get sued for recording someone without their consent in a public place. It sets a bad precedent.
I hope someone eventually does an hour long documentary including an interview wit the techno Viking. In a way he’s revolutionary. He should be proud by now.
There isn't an documentary, but his identity is revealed and has been since 2015 apparently. Gunther Ackerman. There were several articles released on it, including more modern day photos of him. He's just an ordinary dude now.
I think I saw some sort of documentary on which the techno Viking appears. Maybe my memory fails a lot, but I think he explains there that he had problems at work when someone saw the video. Now this guy makes me doubt about that, maybe I'm starting to get senile, but I could swear I've seen it...
This is an excellent video! I only knew parts of this but it's a fascinating look back into the early days of large-scale social media. During the pandemic, I started playing Fortnite with my son. I recognized "Intensity" immediately. My main locker combines it with Magnus, the Wagnerian Viking. Too bad it's not a traversal. Just to clarify, the drunk guy didn't run out of nowhere. The video is being recorded from the flatbed truck that has the sound system mounted. The drunk guy was sitting on the back. He jumped off, stumbling into the blue-haired girl and tried to wander off. The Technoviking stopped him, turned him around, and made him get back on. That's why he's pointing while looking *up*. The drunk guy didn't suddenly grow. He's sitting up on the back of the flatbed. I didn't piece that together myself until years later when there was some other vids posted that showed this part of the parade.
-f*ckparade -the entire clip of his courtesy, badassery, then random dance -his anonymity -getting sued by a meme EVERYTHING about this scenario was awesome
Your "he then starts moving forward and as if he's some kind of compelling force the crowd follows him" line is gold. Hilarious...it almost seems staged
I feel the justice system worked. The legal team for the techno viking gave him ample time and warning as well as possible solutions to end the meme. But the film artist wanted to milk it more for what it can be worth and proposed more marketable ventures with the viking himself. Which was not at all the purpose of the viking reaching out. The viking wanted to end the meme because it's him, in the video, he had absolutely No say, from the start. I want people with a camera to be reasonable and learn how to write contracts for the subjects in their work. Compensation is absolutely paramount because of the astronomical rate at which things can go viral, so the subject must be compensated if that is to be the contract. So, hail to the viking for the win. The win back of his autonomy. 🎉❤❤❤
I actually admire the main man! He shows as a genuine, strong man! And understand his respons as his face was plastered online without him saying yes! Never saw him as a meme, saw him as a strong, genuine man doing what he does! Sad that he didn't like being online, cause he acted as a real man should, but understand his wish to remain a private person!
I came across Technovicking video only recently, because of a friend trying to make his beard to grow long, and I have to say to me the guy didn't look like a meme at all, but some kind of superhero, with his own superpower coming through the music and dance!
There is a photo from 2016 or 17 where Techno Viking is eating a dinner with a friend that was censored, but reminded alot of the drunk/high guy he pointed finger at.
Privacy is really important to the German techno scene, we have a calling here: "Druffies filmt man nicht! ". Essentially, don't film intoxicated people. But that goes even if you aren't intoxicated. Most deffenitly this was the reason why the tchno viking wasn't thrilled to be a meme.
yup, I knew as soon as a lawsuit was mentioned that Technoviking was winning that case, Germany/ Germans take privacy very seriously. When I first moved to Germany for college I got berated and forced to delete a video on the spot by a random bystander when I filmed a staggering drunk guy in a bar that passed out and had to get an ambulance. Think about all the things that could have been memes before the internet existed.

Precisely
I absolutely agree. Technoviking is princpled.
Yeah but at the same time, Mathias was blamed for a ton of stuff he had no part in beyond posting the original video, and the claims that it somehow harmed his image are ridiculous.
@@ElFreakinCid ofc Mathias isn't to blame for the meme phenomenon. Things going viral in social media have more to do with big tech algorithms than anything else. However, Technoviking claim to remain anonymous is nevertheless legitimate.

I ordered a generic one and they are actually really nice looking and functional wallets but the price for the Ridge ones is just utterly absurd!
Freedom with the brain switched off is something very nice!:) Oh and it is irritating, too ... vice versa:)

I was wondering how Mich they are. Figured they'd be pricy but not _that_ expensive.
I bought one but now I have nothing to put in it.
$70?! Holy shit! I could almost afford a prostitute for that.
I got a slimline card holder for €5. Somebody didn't perform due diligence.
Been waiting my whole life for you to cover this OG meme.
@Jay Bee How blasphemous!
Your "he then starts moving forward and as if he's some kind of compelling force the crowd follows him" line is gold. Hilarious...it almost seems staged
though it wasn't.
>the Viking himself never appeared at the court
Maybe because he actually never sued the video creator to begin with
Interesting
proof?
@@maikatideibaskapanaumrqlatupa i think there was meant to be a ? At the end of his post

plot twist : technoviking was just trying to cover his pickpocketting friend by pretending that he caught him, and the dance was just a distraction
Pointing him back in the direction he parked the Long boat...
Hilarious. Got a good chuckle out of this.
Sounds plausible 😂
Love it
What if he sues you for that video? xD
that's different. You're reporting on something, worst case scenario would be that he is forced to not earn money on this video.
Български ютубър е последното нещо което очаквах на wavywevsurf видео
After wavywebsurf
is never seen again, someone will cover his disappearance and link it to technoviking, and be sued in an endless cycle.
@@TheMikesc15 not necessarily because he could sue for defamation.
Gonna have to give him some water before he points at him
I can’t believe someone hasn’t produced on of those small statues of him in that pointing stance. We need it.
@@rvbzero7 🚰
He's out in public, I'm sure other video and cctv recorded him as well. Dudes a bitch for suing.
@Reaver Of the Legacy sup babe
@@rvbzero7 don't make me call the technoviking
I came across Technovicking video only recently, because of a friend trying to make his beard to grow long, and I have to say to me the guy didn't look like a meme at all, but some kind of superhero, with his own superpower coming through the music and dance!
The drunk guy didn’t leave the area. He sat down on the back of the trolley.
And probably was the viking's drunk friend ,,,but hey!!! everyone likes a good drama lol!!
... and was never seen or heard from again
The Technoviking probably wanted to keep an eye on him. I would have been intimidated if I had been in his shoes alright.
hermitcleric lol,, probably his little drunk cousin he brought with him because he has a big Viking heart
There is a photo from 2016 or 17 where Techno Viking is eating a dinner with a friend that was censored, but reminded alot of the drunk/high guy he pointed finger at.
Technoviking pointed at mr. Fritsch: "iam not happy being a meme!" ...technoviking continues techno dance!
I hear that Chuck Norris asks the grim reaper himself to check under his bed for TVK. 😂
Legends says when techno Viking pointed at the sun , the sun went down ,now we call it night..
TechnoViking called Chuck Norris - and left a message.
Chuck Norris called him back.
could you imagine someone trying to sue you over something like this nowadays?
They'd probably still win.

Had no clue about these laws/ views on privacy in germany before that.
@@Wolfgang_von_Caelid ...Why the fuck would you even film that? You're lucky nobody kicked your ass.
@@Wolfgang_von_Caelid You sound like a grade A tool.
@@DropkickNation you're the grade A tool, he's expressing his learning experience and you choose to see right through that and just bully him. You seriously have nothing better to do than to make people feel like shit. Its fucking gross and you should grow the fuck up.
@@Wolfgang_von_Caelid everyone makes mistakes, even out of sheer naivity sometimes. As long as you learn from your mistakes and do the right thing in future, it shows that you are genuine!
Frankly, I praise and understand both sides. Bless the Technoviking and bless Matthias for allowing us to look upon him for a brief moment.
**Techoviking Video removed**
Reuploaders: Haha good luck with that...
He doesn't give a damn about the video. Vikings don't care for such matters. All he knows is he looted and pillaged the guy that uploaded it. Thats what vikings do.
This is the crux of the issue... It's not like there's an actual legal remedy for his popularity. Taken to its (il)logical conclusion, everyone is gonna get sued. Yeah, good game
Technoviking is earth's final boss.
So underrated

@wavywebsurf - just a friendly heads-up, the phrase is "for all intents and purposes". the word "intensive" is not part of that saying (nor does it make sense in context). thanks for the video!
