Bad News Brown (aka Allen Coage, Bad News Allen) won a bronze medal in judo during the 1976 Summer Olympics. Known as one of the legit baddest men in wrestling, Bad News competed in WWF (now WWE), Stampede Wrestling & New Japan Pro Wrestling. Bad News Brown appeared on Wrestlemania 4, 5 & 6 during his stay for Vince McMahon's WWF.
In this shoot interview from 2005, Bad News Brown recalls the night when Bruiser Brody no sold Lex Luger in a cage match. Bad News was there that night and actually saw what led up to the infamous shoot incident. Bad News Brown also discusses Bruiser Brody's tragic death in Puerto Rico and what Brody (Frank Goodish) was like as a friend. RIP Bad News. RIP Bruiser.

Wow...wasn't expecting him to get choked up at the end. This man legitimately scared me when I was a kid. I remember him in Florida and when he started with the WWF. Never knew he was so chill and funny.
It's interviews talking about moments like this makes me wish I continued my training & became one of the boys! I still miss Brody!
Bad news got it. This is a business. Bobby Heenan told the same story as bad news brown about Luger. Bad news was pretty hard on a lot of wrestlers in interviews but one of the few he really gives love to is Bruiser Brody.

I just read that Bad News Brown died back in 2007. That totally sucks! I absolutely loved that dude as a heal. He also seemed so different from his character. The real person, Allen Gouge, I think his real name was? Seems like he would have been a really cool guy to meet and know.
Used to watch him in Stampede. If you mixed Bad News Allen (his original name) with Dr. D. David Schultz, you get Stone Cold Steve Austin.
I just rewatched the Brody Luger fight. The catalyst seemed to be when Brody was kicking Luger in the head and Luger was no selling his kicks. Brody would kick him the head and Luger reacted but barely. If someone kicks you in the head you shouldn’t be trying to get up afterwards. Luger kept getting up and that’s exactly the point Brody stopped selling.

I think even Lex's recollection of this match doesn't match the video. I think people add details and forget details over time. That's not just a wrestler thing.

I've always liked Bad News, I only got to see him on WWF because living in the northeast WWF was all we got to see, bit loved the gimmick because he looks like he was always in a pissed off mood and watching these shoot interviews and I'm sitting here thinking man this is a cool cat, nothing like his Bad News gimmick.
Loved watching Bad News in Stampede Wrestling as a member of the Karachi Vice. He was great on the mic and in the ring, great stuff in the late 80s!!!

Bad News Brown was a bad gimmick WWF did with Bad News Allen. One of the best wrestlers anywhere he went. Fans in Canada loved him in Stampede Wrestling.
I think Bad News Brown played the gimmick well. He was even on the Arsenio Hall Show.
It wasn't bad, the thing about Allen in the WWF was he was 45 when he was signed, athletically his career was on the downside. At that age he was never going to be The Guy

According to Luger, he did the match according to what Brody wanted to do. When Luger realized something was wrong, he told the ref to DQ him, then threw the ref to the ground to sell it, climbed out of the cage and left. Luger also said he asked Brody if it was something he did to upset him, to which Brody replied "It just wasn't working for me tonight, kid". Like I said, that's according to Luger, but who really knows

Brody did a shoot interview, and you really should watch it.
He knew his stuff, and had good ideas.
Brody could have explained things to Luger. According to others, Luger was new and naive to the business. They could have had a good match, and entertained the fans. Something like "Oh, your telling me what to do? Your a new guy, and I have 15 years of experience. I LEAD, so you follow me!" But, Florida was a dying promotion then, so it was every man for himself. Were they feuding? Or, what was the purpose of a one off cage match?
With all due respect to Bad News, that did not happen that way. He never beat Lex up and then Lex went cryin for the ref to open the cage door. Watch the video.

I remember seeing him when was Bad News Allen. He worked part time for Polynesian Pro Wrestling in Hawaii and they had a huge card called "Hot Summer Night". I think this was the only promotion in the US that had wrestlers from the WWF, WCW and AWA all on one show. Bruiser Brody was on the card. Too bad Brody and Stan Hansen didn't appear together in Hawaii during their frequent trips to Japan.

Brody was very strong and could squat below parallel with 700 and deadlift a little over 700 lbs at almost 6 feet 7 inches and 320 pounds
Back in the day, there's no doubt we had some of the best wrestling ever done. After seeing these interviews, the stories off script seem way more outrageous than the scripted ones. Unfortunately, they also have real consequences. RIP to all those passed, and while I normally reserve this for fellow veterans, Godspeed.

Look up Undertaker and Austin talking about Mark's very first match which happened to be against Brody. Mark made the mistake of calling the match too.
U wouldn't believe most of this stuff happened in the wrestling world.allen was so underated like most blacks in the sport.most people didn't know he spent a lot of time in japan.
When I was a kid I only knew him from his second run in the WWF. I never would have guessed he was in his mid to late 40s at the time. These interviews are great, I get to learn all this stuff we didn't have access to back then.
