Back in the mid 1980's for Verne Gagne's AWA Wrestling, two of the most talked about tag teams entered into a program. Road Warriors (Hawk, Animal) & Fabulous One (Steve Keirn, Stan Lane) fought one some of the biggest pro wrestling stages in the country. The Fabs had done to job for the Road Warriors each time they met in the ring but it came time for Hawk & Animal to return the favor, the duo decided to change the finish mid match!
Find out why the Road Warriors refused to do the job for the Fabulous One & the receipt that came later in Puerto Rico!
The Road Warriors interview was conducted in 2000 while the Fabulous Ones interview was 2017.

why don't you show this shoot interview in its entirety
Stan Lane was very underrated. Great worker, and supposedly right up there with Flair in terms of wrestling groupies.
Well I mean it's a rumor he is Loren bobarts father lol. And was the only person trained by Ric. Of course he taught him the ways of pus slaying
Educated Feet
@Lewis 970
I liked the Stan Lane version of The Midnight X better than BB/LBD but I always thought of Sweet Stan as Lex Luger Light
Including Lauren Boebert's mother
I pulled chief jay strongbows pecker , Its in the spank bank
Love the fact that The Fabs don't even pretend to be badasses at all. They are like we were there for business. And to have Larry Hennig take care of you in Minnesota means a lot, shows the Road Warriors were in the wrong.
Not badasses, but they did some blood-soaked matches in Memphis in 80's.
@@jimbrown5091 That Monday night at the MidSouth Coliseum stuff is honestly the Best ever. Seriously, everything else pales in comparison. That loud ass ring with the realistic beatings and blood with the bell constantly ringing was Gold. I love the territories and I am a huge NWA fan, but Monday night at the Coliseum was great.
Jim Brown especially against the sheephearders
@@Grogie4dagurlz The part where he was describing what the Sheepherders were saying as they went after them was great.
It helps that what the Fabs said was actually a coherent stream of logic and not the disjointed ramblings of a couple roid heads.
This was one of the best and funniest interviews I have seen so far. I like how they were usually getting one over the Road Warriors by outsmarting them. I can't blame Keirn for whacking them with the chair as quickly as he could or he would've taken a serious beating.
It's amazing the huge difference in mindset that they had vs the Road Warriors. The Fabulous Ones understood that this was entertainment and that they all had to work together. The Road Warriors unfortunately were just all ego and did not want to put anyone over. Glad to know the rest of the wrestlers had their backs after that match.
Keirn trained in the Eddie Graham/Malenko/Matsuda snake pit. He could handle himself.
@@philipclarke9696 yeah with a chair
One of chillest interviews I've heard in a minute.
Great rivalry! RIP Animal and Hawk
I just got a whole new perspective on wrestling... These fights are a bit more real than I ever thought?...
Dear god lol
Judging by that comment I'm gonna guess you don't know a lot about the history of/inner workings of wrestling (by the way I'm really not trying to be condescending) in history of the business their have been more shoots than if you put every UFC card together. And I'm talking in ring, not counting in locker rooms or bars.
Just incase your curious check out Regal vs Goldberg in WCW for a semi shoot caught on TV then go down the rabbit hole from there. Enjoy 😀
When a wrestler admits hes gonna get his ass whooped by another I tend to believe his story alot more.
youtube coerced me into watching wrestling interviews about 6 months ago and after watching about 50 of them I'd say this is the most entertaining one yet. instant classic
I haven't watched a pro wrestling match since the early 90s but I love these interviews.
If this is a true story it's one of the best ones I've ever heard about how someone handled the Road Warriors .
Man I loved the road warriors I seen them wrestle several times live and I had a chance to meet them at a meet and greet right before Hawk died but I was to busy man it makes me sad to this day R.I.P Mike/Hawk
The Fabs look like grandpa's now sitting around telling wrestling stories 😂😂😂
This is great stuff. Thank you!
I loved the Road Warriors, but it may have been after they left the AWA. Great hearing how much the guys knew each other and, usually, worked together.
the stan lane steve kern fabolous ones were legit. my fav tag team when they were in memphis.
"Don't touch Stan Lane's hair!" LOL he has no hair now.
Because people wouldn't stop touching it! 😂
Man, the fabulous ones are so underated!, thank you guy's for the memories!!!
they are not underrated at all
All those people saying Hogan was full of shit about front face locking Vern, Keirn confirms it
An elderly Verne.
After he calmed down about two years later 😂😂😂😂😂😂
😆 😂 🤣
The Road Warriors were basically a couple of muscle bound rednecks.
Depending on the territory you were watching, the Fabs and LOD were absolute 🔥. Great memories
Stan is one of the coolest dudes on the planet! Steve is cool too, but didn't talk to him too much.
Lmao Hawk “we’ll get you sooner or later”😂
this was a great shoot interview, i remember buying it on VHS over 20 years ago............
So awesome to see these guys still around, in good spirits and they look like they are doing quite well!
Well both Hawk and Animal died. May they Rest In Peace.
Cool video! Always liked the Fabulous Ones.
How can you not love the LOD. Greatest tag team ever in my opinion 😊😊😊
Damn I still miss Hawk to this day.
I would love to have seen them try that with the Steiner brothers!!!!
They tried it with them.Didn't go so well but to be real in a all out fight few could take the warriors.Doom could hold their own.
Arn Anderson said in an interview/shoot that The Steiners used to punk /bully everyone in the locker room for fun, except for Ron Simmons.
@@jamesrender3464Steiners couldn't take LOD in a fight either. Ron Simmons would've held his own though for sure.
Doesn't matter though bc The Steiners and LOD got along, birds of a feather type of stuff, and respected one another.
R.I.P. Butch Reed and LOD
Ole Anderson said warriors tried that with Steiners and got stretched by them
jericho would beat the steiners brothers with his arms tied behind his back, jericho made goldberg his bitch in their real fight
@@afzalhakeen4941 right lol that's funny, Steiner brothers were legit college amateur wrestlers that couldve turned anyone into a pretzel, Jericho got lucky with Goldberg and put him in a chokehold, yes great achievement but come on, Goldberg although was a giant of a man, he was never a legit trained fighter like the Steiner brothers were
Afzal Hakeen You are a moron even Nash Hall DDP and others were terrified of Scott Steiner alone they were legitimate athletes who were vicious..
Goldberg is a fake bitch
@@Montoya1991 Don't f..k with the Steiner brothers. Oh no! LOL!
Whoa man! I feel 8 years old right now! The road warriors/fabulous ones had the best matches. I got to see quite a few at the mid south coliseum.
Do you know how many matches I had with my road warriors and fabulous ones action figures?????
Haha...the good old days...they were my favorite!!!!
I still have my Road Warrior AWA action figures.
Yes! Even the wrestling toys were the stuff back then!
Those Remco AWA figures were cool. They were out before the LJN WWF action figures from what I learned later.
Those Remco AWA wrestling rings were awesome!!
Great story. Much respect to Steve and Stan
The Fabs are pretty cool guys.
I loved Hawk serious guy at showtime though.... Steve serious when it came to the the bizz .... Great mind fun to work with! 👍
As a kid in Memphis, The Fabulous Ones were kings in tag team.
Yeah. They were super over in their early years in Memphis. Their matches with the Sheepherders and the Moondogs are legendary.
Definitely
@@kevinpayton2664 yes they are!!!
@@SpyneMetal like the name!!
@@scenariomckinney Thanks. That's the name of my hard rock band too. We have some videos on RUclips if you like that kind of music. 😎🎸🎼
The Road Warriors didn't want to do the job. Imagine that.
Love the Road Warriors but I believe the Fabulous ones on this that hawk and animal never wanted to job in the early years
As Jim Cornette called it on Kayfabe Commentaries; "The Road Warrior Problem." You have to job every once in a while or you'll lose your heat. If there is no drama or doubt, why would fans get invested?
@@ralph8677the actual problem he talked about was nobody would believe them losing. Especially bc of their size.
It wasn't just that part you're saying.
Which what you're saying still holds water too bc if you build them up to never lose, nobody's gonna wanna see them lose.
That freebird interview was excellent
Steve Kern is my favorite wrestler of all time
Keirn's story seems more credible. They were the one's getting beat up
The Fabs story makes more sense, especially in the context of how new the Road Warriors were to the business at the time.
That’s because it is the real story.
Knowing Stan he had a date that night. LOL!
Probably had his date waiting in the audience.
Hmmm...there is a video on youtube with the date of the match described, and in that video, it's actually Crusher, a ringside second of the Fabs, who comes in with the chair.
I'd heard the Road Warriors side of the story before, but this is the first interview I've seen from the Fabulous Ones side. Granted I never exactly looked too much into it, but thank you because this makes things a lot clearer. Though I love the RWs, the FOs version of the story makes more sense to me. It also shows how green even the most revered wrestlers once were. The thing I've pieced together from that time era is it was very hard to find a good PRO wrestling instructor. By that I mean, there are plenty of people to show you how to do the moves properly, but there are far fewer that can properly teach the basics of how ring psychology works. As a result, the RWs weren't as clued in as they could have been and they learned lessons along the way like most seemed to, the hard way. That's my very general view of the era anyway.
Worked the late shift at a motel in Memphis. Many night I would let the fabs ring rats in the back door. Other great matches were the fabs vs the moondogs
It sounds like whoever trained The Road Warriors R.I.P. NEVER "smartened them up", so they went in like "its a fight". Credit to Keirn for being a class act & saying they got it later. Bc they did. Once they did, the rest is history. GOAT Tag-Team LOD
For those who don't know Brad Riggins was Kurt Angle without the mic skills.
Or the .Olympic gold medal lol
Brad Rheingans
capitalismforme
His name had nothing to do with why he didn’t become a bigger star as a pro. It was more his lack of charisma coupled with working primarily for Verne Gagne, who preferred to push him as a legitimate wrestler vs giving him a gimmick. His name could’ve bee Drake Stardust and he would have been just the same.
capitalismforme
I know he was. He was a great wrestler. Just not great on the mic. That was the difference between AWA and WWF. WWF was more about size and gimmick, wrestling ability was usually secondary. NWA was in between.
I was never a fan of WWF even before Hogan and Vince took it national.
@@michaelkaminski8339 that year the U.S. didn't go to the Moscow Olympics because of their invasion of Afghanistan.
Awesome.. after all these years to hear these guys comments and their sides of the story is awesome. Better than watching the match. But now I’m looking for those matches. Made me laugh, freakin awesome. Thanks
The Road Warriors should have come in with the World Super Heavyweight Championship! It would have been separate from the AWA Tag Team Camps. The AWA should have used them as attractions, and brought in teams just to face them. The AWA tag titles would have been for the regular guys who planed on staying. They could have tried to get Brody, and Hanson to do some matches at major PPV shows, and built up both teams.
Absolutely great story!! This is awesome!!
He needs to call Dan Spivey and ask how to use the chair on the Road Warriors.
LMAO RIGHT
Ask Mike Blackwell how those work punches felt by Dan Spivey..
Dan The Left Hand Man! LOL!
Pappy, Spivey did NOTHING with the chair. That was a total work, but he tries to tell it like they legit shot on the RW. He was so deluded that he got Taker to believe the Warriors were burying him (which is BS) and pretends that he was really fighting.
If that is real fighting, he’s not very good at it. It was a total work. Period.
@@elijahrobinson2362 the Undertaker can confirm Spivey went off with the chair so not true.
Wow..now both these guys are gone...best tag team probably ever...rest on ROAD WARRIORS #LOD
Sweet Stan Lane looks like he could be Neil McDonoughs twin!
This is proof that there’s a difference between being a badass and being tough. Steve’s father was a POW in WW2 and also in Korea. Steve talks about the torture he endured for years. This “toughness” was obviously inherently, and can be seen throughout Steves career. He never going to make anyone legit badass list, but he was tough, and wouldn’t put up with crap from anyone
Oh what a great piece of history this story is. 10/10!
Who is ready for dark side of the ring featuring the Road Warriors?
Me can't wait till tonight
dude i cant fucking wait!
So the Hogan front face lock on Vern was true then.
Because I listen to Jim Cornette podcast and mentions this and said he doubts Hogan did that to Vern Gana.
Well turns out it was true had told by the fabulous ones.
What did Cornette doubt? That Hogan could or would do that to Gagne? I've never even heard the story
@bryoneill11Jim may be biased and set in his ways but he is still one of the greatest Minds in the business
Jim has TDS and cannot think logically anymore
So the story is true! Vern was costing Hulk Hogan money brother..
bryoneill11 maybe he does, maybe he doesn’t. What do you know about the business? What experience do you have?
The Road Warriors = GOAT
I love the timber of stan's.voice. could listen to his stories all day.
WWF Skinner (Steve Keirn)
That was Skinner?!?
DOINK
The WWF did a good job with Skinner's look because Steve was unrecognizable to me. It was a long time before I knew that he was Skinner.
I did see them lose to The Fabulous Ones. The fans cheered The Fabulous Ones. This was in Chicago. The Warriors eventually won the feud. But, in that final match, The Warriors mainly used foot to throat chokeholds. I realized that these guys really can't wrestle
In 84 and early 85, no, they couldn't. They were damn-near still new. But if you watch through their time in AWA, they improved VASTLY.
By 85-86, they were the top of the AWA and building toward being the GOAT Tag-Team that they're known as today. Goes to show 2 things, being in there w/ people better than you who can teach and hard work together paid off.
Most people don't remember the Fabs, they were a regional Team. And Keirn basically disappeared until Skinner, and most people didn't know he was Skinner nor Doink until later.
Lane became half of the better version of The Midnight, that said, still joined an established Team.
And neither had solo runs worth a damn and didn't really have a good Tag-Team run as The Fabs.
Winnipeg crowds popped like crazy for 'em too!!!!
Rip Mike- road warrior hawk!
durden2480 I was sure I knew he died then I seen the video and realized it was his replacement but he no hawk he was a one of a kind guy!

Great story big fan of both sides!
Kern is the best!
Keirn could have been WWWF/WWF champion. McMahon Sr. told Eddie Graham that he needed a babyface to take the belt from Superstar Billy Graham. Eddie Graham told Vince Sr. to choose between Steve Keirn and Bob Backlund. He chose Backlund.
I would say there’s there’s three sides to any story yours, mine,& the truth
No no no. There's only 2 sides. There's yours.. and then theres mine, WHICH IS THE TRUTH
The Fabs were so over in the States overall; not just Memphis and the AWA but in Texas and Florida. The Road Warriors were just a force; kicked ass from Georgia to Minnesota in really a short period of time before Verne put the AWA World Tag belts on them. I loved the Road Warriors-Fabulous Ones matches. Both teams were great.
Great story!
If ya would’ve been actually men, you’d told the Fabs you wasn’t gonna go with the finish as you had agreed to do. The Warriors learned that Keirn isn’t a pushover as demonstrated with the chair beating your ASSES down.
It might not have went the way you wanted but I bet it was a hell of a great match . . .
Steve Kiern/Matt Borne ARE DOINK
Damn, I would love to see this Battle Royale
What great stories
Anyone know where I can find this particular match?
The one with the chair is on youtube
Looking to the good old Days...
Hawk is crazy
Would have been intresting if they ( warriors) did this to Haku and Barbarian, or Dick Slater and Dick Murdoch
They tried it with Harley Race and Stan Hansen, let's just say that it didn't work.
Or DOOM!

@@douglaspaterson5269Simmons would've held his own, especially based on the 1st Doom and LOD brawl. Plus, even the Steiners didn't mess w/ DAMN.
Good stuff. ty
The movie Kern is referring to is The Warriors.
Stan Lane Rules!
Stan was in 2 of the best teams of all time.
Are these the Freebirds from the WCCW Von Erich days ???
Ether Detroit no. The Fabulous Ones. The Freebirds were Michael Hayes, Terry Gordy, and Buddy Roberts. They look nothing alike.
I so LOVE wrestling stories
Love that wanderers reference great movie
Keirn looks like Mr. Lahey from Trailer Park Boys.
Dan Spivey didn't take any shit from the RW either
Hawk and Animal the characters could do whatever they want, Hawk and Animal the real guys could also do whatever they want. That’s why we love them. We knew wrestling was pre determined but we rooted for them because we knew they were REAL bad assess
The Steiners would have Stretched both Warriors in real life.
Basically, Hawk decided to be a *D.*
And honestly, back then, The Fabulous ones did look-a-like just enough that during the heat of a match; you could realistically mistake one for the other. So, the original finish would have worked.
That PR story is hilarious.
Except did he say they never went back to PR for the sheephearders match?
I liked the fabulous ones
This is freaking hilarious 🤣
love steve kiern...great Doink
Never heard the Hogan Gagne story
Leave the fabs alone. lol love it.
Damn, I wish I were there😂😂😂😂😂😂
Only intervirw I seen where the interviewee was honest about losing a fight, apart from shamrock on the nasty boys assaulting him from behind, Usually every one of then won the fight despite everyone knowing they lost
Lol shamrock attacked a drunk sleeping in bed. Then the other one clocked him with a phone...
So not really as you (or ken) puts it.
Funniest interview ever😂😂😂😂
I still remember the Fabulous Ones video to “Everybody Wants You.”
I had to take a shower after watching that... I felt so dirty 😆😆
That one and the video to "The Boys Are Back In Town."
