Suggestion: work on your follow through. As soon as you touch off that round your whole upper body is moving and your head is lifting up. Keep your head down on that rifle and hold on to it, just like you're trying to watch the bullet hit the target through the scope. That kind of follow through will improve your shooting. (I'm a USMC 4th Award Expert Rifleman and was a rifle range coach as well)

A word on the mags. Since you are using a magazine designed for a.223 with a.450 follower, try grinding a half moon on the front of the mag to allow for the bigger diameter round. I did this on the Ruger AR 556. I shoot sub moa groups at 100 yards with a bipod. In fact, while sighting in I put 3 rounds in two holes. Maybe because the Ruger is a great AR.

I got about the same results as you with a 16" BCA upper using the same ammo on a lower that shoots half MOA with .223. When I asked them about the accuracy, they wanted the barrel to "settle in". After 50 rounds with no improvement they replaced it under their MOA guarantee... new upper shoots exactly the same. I appreciate the effort in replacing it but I wasted about $70 worth of ammo to find out that this is what to expect out of the gun/upper.

Were you resting on sandbags or was the weapon being held in a vice?
Not trying to cast aspersions, just trying to find truth, and if the fault lies with you and not the weapon, than you can’t fix it until you know you have the issue.....
Also, try using molybdenum grease on the trigger innards. It doesn’t do anything but make it easier for shooter to feel the clicking and stages in the trigger as it sets...basically less feeling like a slow grind, more feeling like the ticking of an old watch.....

If you want to soften it up a little bit try a 4oz. buffer and an LR-308 spring, then try shooting at least two boxes of ammo through it before messing with the gas system my AR-stoner upper acted the same way when it was new, now I can get two rounds in the same whole at 50yds. and 2in or less at 100yds using those same rounds and a 1-4 LPVO.

I purchased a BCA upper in .450. While I’m a huge fan of Hornady, i recognize that some weapons fire different ammo better. I shoot sub MOA groups at 100 yards. You may well find that if you run some more rounds through it, it’ll break in and run more reliably. Good luck!! Great video.

*In my AR-15 for either accuracy or rapid fire... I prefer a two stage national match style trigger with the JP reliability spring set and an AR-10 308 stainless flatwire buffer spring and an H3 Heavy buffer. Tubb offers a 308 stainless flatwire spring that works well in my CAR-15 Carbine. You should consider that for smoother and probably more accurate shooting. With a good trigger... the reduced power hammer spring is NOT necessary. OR Triggertech make some awesome adjustable AR Gas Gun triggers.*

You could shoot sub moa you just need to follow good protocall let your bore cool brush it put your left hand under the stock to help hold it secure. My 450 bm is a ruger 556 lower with a BCA 450 16” upper and it throws sub MOA at 100. Alot of the times it will put 2 or three in the same hole then have a flyer. My rifle is pretty heavy through. I have the strike eagle 2 and a Midwest QD mount it adds like 2 lbs but tames recoil a-lot. Biggest thing here is getting comfy with your shooting setup

Your shots are different because your cheek weld is different each time. Take a little rectangle of foam and use electrical tape to put it on the stock in a place that is comfortable for you and will make it obvious to you that your cheek weld is the same every time and tell you when you’re in the wrong spot…….
I learned that trick when my Army Unit took us to HDSOC (High Desert Special Operations Center - in Hawthorne Nevada) to improve our shooting skills before a deployment to Afghanistan….
As far as the trigger, smooth even the cheap army triggers by lubing them up with Molybdenum Disulfide grease (I learned that at the Squad Designated Marksman course normally taught at Camp Robinson, but my class was taught at Fort Chaffee due to scheduling conflict for the ranges between SDM a course and sniper course).

I seem to hear a lot of people comment about how the 450 Bushmaster is not that accurate...and I don’t get why. I have a Savage 110 Scout in 450 with a Leupold VX•R Scout 1.5-5x33 and off of a bench, just sitting in sandbags in the front, and my hand at the rear of the stock, I can get one ragged hole almost every time with 5 rounds. Those are Hornady custom as well, so I have not even worked up any hand loads yet....16” barrel, factory accu-stock, factory trigger, Seekins Precision rings, Leupold VX•R and factory ammo....not bad accuracy if you ask me...especially considering this is a 250 yards and under round...why you would need better accuracy than that for a deer/werewolf/Sasquatch rifle....I don’t know. I guess people just think you should get dime sized groups at 500 yards no matter what you are shooting🙄....

      Well said.
Basically, any firearm in a caliber that drops far enough that it won’t hit a saucer (as in the thing brits or your granny put under a tea cup) while aiming dead center at 300yards/meters, is considered “inaccurate” by morons.... they don’t understand “drop” any more than they understand “purpose built rounds.”
Gotta remember, this round is essentially designed to be the semi-automatic version of .45-70; good for large hogs or standard bear when the animal is close enough to mess up your weekend plans..... I love my Marlin .45-70, but I think I will make the switch to the .450Bushmaster within the next 18 months, for my property in Alaska...

I’ve read most of these comments. It’s not a gas issue. It’s not likely to be a Mag issue. I have 2 of these uppers. A 16” and an 18”. I run DuraMags. And they are awesome. My brother had a cycle problem with his BCA 450 upper. It was nothing more than a lubrication problem. BCA’s are a little bit rough from the factory sometimes. If you got one like that, oil the crap out of it for about 50 rounds. But they are shooters. Once he figured out it was a lubrications problem, never had another issue. My 16” shoots 250gr Hornady Black to 1.2” with a Burris E1 3x9. My 18” shoots the same load to .77 with the same scope. Both lowers are PSA magpul EPT with Rise DI triggers at 3.5lbs. Brothers is on a standard PSA lower with factory trigger. His shoots Hornady Black to 1.2” with a Nikon 3x9 on top. All Burris PEPPR mounts.
I have 6 BCA uppers. 2-HBAR 450’s, 2-HBAR X-39’s, a 24” HBAR 5.56 fluted 1:7, and a standard 16” A2 5.56. The X39’s shoot 1” groups with cheap wolf. .81 with my handloads. The 24” shoots 0.6” with cheap 55gr Hornady SP. 0.22” with my 62gr handloads, and the A2 shoots 1.3-1.5” no matter what you feed it (assuming it’s spec ammo of course).
Just bought 500 Speer 300gr Deep Curls today to start working up some hog loads. Should be here in a week or so. I don’t like FTX bullets. They make an unnecessary mess inside of a deer. But they are accurate.

@@tristarcustoms77 You’re welcome. I know this is a year old video. And I don’t know if you handload or not. But I’m not kidding about the Speer Deep Curls. They were/are designed for the 454 Casul and 460S&W speeds. The 250gr were designed for 45 Colt speeds. 450 guys are reporting good accuracy out of theirs over Lil Gun, Reloader 7, and H4198. I’m going to run mine over H-4198. Every big bore rifle I have (see where I got my handle now?) shoots sub MOA with H-4198. Add a 4th and a 5th to the mix and 5 inch group is not unheard of - cheap range ammo. 1:8 twist (which everyone says is too much for 55 grain - but even with 68 grain match ammo, still not where I want it. I'm using a Nikon 3-9X50mm scope and a ALG Defense trigger with the 6LB hammer spring. I noticed the primers are a little harder on these rounds. I'm using the same magazine as well, so far it's been reliable. I haven't had any issues with the gas system, it functions flawlessly...I know BCA uppers can be hit or miss, maybe I just got a good one?

One thing I didn’t mention in the video is I completely tore the upper down to Cerakote it (back when I was doing that) and I’m sure I installed the gas system back correctly and didn’t notice any flaws. I have read recently that someone changed out there buffer spring and that helped with feeding. I might try that eventually. I’m hoping to work on another video with this upper soon using some hand loads and a different hammer spring to improve accuracy.

450 AR is my next build, already have parts on order.
What spring & buffer would you suggest?
My thought is to start out with a 'mil spec' carbine spring & buff, but I've seen a couple videos where the 450 is failing to cycle. I think it would make sense to go with a heavy spring & buff but now I'm wondering if i need to go light weight.
    Let me know.

    • @mymusicaccount1456

Ok so everything arrived and assembled fine, ejection port was opened up as big as it could so the door still snaps shut, most material was removed from the bottom.
CYCLING ISSUES. Most of the time the spent casing is ejected, but rarely does everything work as expected. So until i get the buffer system dialed in I'll have to treat it like a bolt action.

Adjustable gas block! My Davison Defense upper cycled mostly on carbine system,Ordered a Stealth Recoil Spring (Big bore) too much buffer weight! they said "clip springs a coil" - ?¿?

@@ryanjones4951 all my problems went away when i drilled open the gas port in the barrel from .110 to .125. Doesn't sound like much but it's about 30% more area.
Reassembled with borescope to ensure perfect alignment of gas block and haven't had an issue since. Back to running "millspec" spring & buffer.
