  • What happens when you put a 450 Bushmaster straight-wall hunting cartridge (typically with an expected range of 100-150 yards) in the hands of a Pro Shooter? In this video, Chad Heckler pushes the limits of this round, while friend and fellow Pro Shooter, Francis Colon does a side-by-side comparison shooting his 6.5 Creedmoor.

MDT was born out of a single purpose: to provide better value and better accuracy for precision rifles. The first MDT chassis was developed from the ground up based on the needs of shooters.
Our engineers verified every function and feature based on the input from competitive shooters. The end result was a game-changing product called the TAC21 that continues to perform at the range, in the field and in competitions around the world.
Today, MDT chassis, magazines and accessories are still developed the same way.
We collaborate, question and verify our concepts with precision shooters from around the globe to ensure that every MDT product is designed with the same single purpose: to provide our customers with the absolute best product possible.

Might as well have fired that 450 Bushmaster from an artillery cradle with that firing solution! Not much of a comparison, but fun to watch and you raised some good considerations about trueing muzzle velocity under ideal atmospheric conditions, stationary target, etc. Unfortunately lots of people don't think about those kinds of things and figure if they hit a target once at a certain range then they can hunt at that range. Another consideration is being able to hit the vitals with a COLD BORE SHOT. I'm also wondering what kind of ammunition you are using in the 6.5 CM. I'd assume FMJ, which shouldn't be used for hunting. While I believe an animal can be taken with a well-placed shot, they (Elk, Moose) also do seem to take longer to expire if there isn't sufficient energy and a 6.5 CM definitely doesn't have the energy needed for some of those animal silhouettes (e.g. the Moose) at the ranges they were being shot at.

I was talking to a couple of ODNR officers about my .450BM (I'm trolling for spent brass). They told me thanks. I asked what I did. They told me the .350 Legend is quite popular because the recoil isn't much. But, they have been getting calls on dead deer that were shot with those that ran off. Or, talking to hunters that bought them that have seen the need for multiple shots to put a deer down. The .450 BM hits 'em like a Peterbuilt.
After sighting mine in on a 1/2" AR500 target I get it. I can shoot this target with my .308 and never have to go pick it up because it flies off of the mount. With the .450, I have to go put it back on after every shot. I'm gonna have to redesign my mount. But, I am getting some exercise.
I noticed the difference in the length of hang time between the .450 and the 6.5. Quite a spread. The 6.5 is there yesterday vs. the .450 is next day delivery.
Enormous fun could be had from someone coming up with a new wildcat in .45, that fits on an AR10 platform.

Are you casting the bullets, or buying them? Try powdercoating them. It acts just like a jacketed bullet. That powdercoating is tough as nails. It'll leave you with a much cleaner bore. And, you can shoot these through a gas gun.
Get whatever color powdercoat you fancy (some guys will tell you some are better than others), put a PINCH of powder in a plastic container and shake. (Your bullets have to be bare lead. If you are buying lubed bullets you'll have to clean them off. )
Use some tweezers or hemostats and place them upright on some #8 hardware cloth. Put them in a JUNK countertop oven at 400° for 16-20 minutes. Take 'em out and let 'em cool. Run through a sizer and load. You don't need to lube them.
