If you plan on reloading 450 bushmaster, know that Hornady has changed the primers from small rifle to large rifle. They did this without saying a word. It only matters if you reload, but it still sucks that they did it like that.
I love the 450 BM. I put an 18 inch barrel on mine from BCA and killed a 130lb hog first trip off my porch lol. I also like your press and dies, identical to mine. I've had great results from all my Lee reloading equipment. Great video👍👍👍
Quality’s fine man! this is a valuable piece of content You couldn’t have known that people would be buying these for home defense in 2022…. Semi auto 45-70 anyone???
I set a funny goal, I have 2 lowers needing uppers, i kept finding 20 or so each trip, and if I found over 100 450 cases at range, thats my next chapter...well...last week I topped off the brass collection 🤣
I let my friend Use my 450 Bushmaster on a 1800 lb BUFFALO (bison) on a High Fence Hunt a couple weeks ago, and the 360 Grain Hardcast handloads went right thru it! Tough Animals! Gotta edit the Video Of the Hunt Soon !! Impressive caliber, Cool video bro!!!
Why didn’t you flare the case mouth or crimp? If this round is to be cycled from an AR a crimp is a must or you’ll get set back when it chambers, thus creating pressure issues. Additionally, if you flare prior to seating the bullet it may improve your group size. Not flaring could be putting abnormalities on the bullet.
Great video I will be purchasing a 450 bushmaster bolt action from savage arms during your video I didn’t see a case gauge is it needed for that caliber also I can’t find one anyway I’m curries thank you
you really should fire form a case to your chamber then send it here and they'll thread it for you: coppercreekcartridgeco.com/product/send-us-your-brass-for-a-modified-case/
I have heard that the450 bushmaster needs the case mouth flaired or belled, seem that flairing and crimping could weaken the brass after a while whar=t are your thoughta onflairing the case mouth.
I would imagine it’ll weaken over time so I try to apply the absolute slightest amount of flare so I can just get the bullet started. I was loading for a bolt gun so I didn’t “have to” crimp but if you’re running a gas gun I would apply a crimp.
Question how is your brass holding up so far a few are saying that after a while brass won’t hold the bullet brass being so expensive I want to make sure if it’s true and is there a fix thanks
I've had no issues with the brass so far. I have 4 firings on it and everything is working fine. I use the Lee die set...I can't speak for how the brass would hold up in a AR platform but in the bolt action it seems to be holding up just fine.
hooks and bullets adding a slight flare to the case mouth will help with bullet seating....I didn’t crimp since I was loading for a bolt action but you may want to apply a slight crimp since you’re reloading for an AR.
@@alabamareloader thank you much for the response! I have a 650 but haven't loaded anything but 9mm. Looking at getting a single stage for rifle but seems as if most presses of any brand are sold out everywhere.
hooks and bullets yea seems like everyone decided to try reloading when all the hoarding of ammo began...I would go with the Frankford Arsenal M-Press if you can find one...for the money it’s a solid press with good features. The universal shell holder system is probably my favorite part of that press.
In my ar the bullets pull out. Hornady factory load pull. 3x and they won't fit into mag. I use same lee dies and do crimp front being careful not to much as worry about head space.
I can tell you love what you do. Interested to purchase an AR in this caliber. I used to reload for my Colt series 70, 300 rounds at a time then go shoot them up at the Police Range. Nice metered powder dispenser. Enjoy.
You should look into a progressive press. I used to do the same as you with a single press and now, it’s much faster and equally precise. On top of that, the straight case 450 Bushmaster is extremely easy reload. Btw, I’m loving the 450 Bushmaster on an AR platform! Can you say “Big Ass Boom Stick!”?
spadetrump I’ve tested this scale multiple times warming it up and not warming it up...I’ve gotten the same results both ways...for the most part though I do warm up the scale as it’s recommended by RCBS...I believe the manual calls out around 30-40 mins prior to use.
@@alabamareloader ok. Same thing I do. Pretty dumb in this day and age we got to warm up scales that sit in consistent controlled room temperatures for 20 min.

Fellow huntsville 450 shooter here, glad to see someone else shooting this round.
It's an awesome round and I enjoy reloading for it...I'm about to start working on a Speer 300gr HP for it.

It's ok if you miss 3x while hunting. Just drive home, reload 3 more. You had me laughing. Thanks for the video.

It was being shot in a bolt action...no crimp needed.
I like your vidersI just received my first press a leesinglestage but I am only looking to load for my hunting use
The Lee single stage press is a good choice especially when you’re starting out!

Hornady makes a modified case gage you can use to check the distance to the lands using the Hornady OAL gage.

What bullet seater do you use with the FTX ? I’ve tried two different ones and I’m getting some nose deformation.
I used the Lee bullet seating die for all of my 450 bushmaster loading.
@@alabamareloader thanks I’ll have to get one !👍
I am juggling with either the Ruger or Savage. I strictly hunting wild boar and with in a distance of max 150yard

I have to say Dillon 550. Great info and very good explanaitions.
450 shooter here and longtime loader but cannot find brass,i was thinking about making my own bullets i already cast 45 and 9 mm.

I have a ruger american go wild 450 BM I’m getting into reloading! I’m juggling with what primers to use with LiL gun hornady 250 gr ftx any tips?
mike williams I had good performance using Federal Gold Medal Match primers...I find myself shooting those more and more these days.
@@alabamareloader #205 small rifle?
That load data hornady has is max 4 the AR a bolt can shoot alot more hotter load I know cause I got mine coming out the barrel at 2690 fps
Do you not need to bell the case at all? Or need to crimp at all? I have a AR platform in 450 and want to start reloading it. Rounds are expensive lol

You don’t have to enter the weight before each throw. Hit 37.9 and “enter” then “dispense”. After that just hit “dispense” for each one after.
On Your Own Outdoors learn something new every day...would probably help if I actually read the instructions
What dye are you running
Rhyan Giroux I use the Lee Precision four die set...Lee has always been a good die set for the money 💰
@@alabamareloader thank you ive been huning for a good die set for my 450 its been my cayote gun for a while now
Do you have use crimp for the 450
I don't crimp anything I reload... everything I shoot is bolt gun related and the crimp is just unnecessary from the testing I've done with it.
I miss Alabama I was reared in Vally while the mills were running.
Hey I also am a Huntsville hunter I hunt on redstone and love to kill some deer and eat venison 450 bushmaster is great
what reload book are you using?
Hornady 10th edition
Thank you
I feel like we are family, so much in common even southern draw

No crimping
Hard to accept the price of primers nowadays
Why go through all that trouble for 3 rounds. Finish the box and move on.
