Reloading 30-06: Testing Shooters World Powder
I have been making 30TC brass from 308 Winchester brass for many years, Anneal it first And lube with Hornady unique case lube inside and out run it through the size die with the expander and the spindle and the spindle nut removed Then trim to length and expand the neck to the proper size. You may have to expand the neck to get the trimmer pilot to fit inside the neck but do that in a separate process from the full length sizing. The headspace is shorter on the 6.5 Creedmoor than the 30-TC for good reason.
Been shootin this round for 20 years. It's one of the very best for all North American big game. It'll do a big Bear too in a pinch. IMR 4831 or H version will more than likely be your best friend in this cartridge with bullets in the 140-160 range. Try it, I think you'll be pleased. Good luck with the new rifle.
My 280AI likes the Hornady ammo, but hated the Nosler 140BT. I ended up getting good results with the 150g Eldx + H4350 hand loaded as a deer load.
H 4350 and h 4831 is your friend in 280 ackley
I like the idea u went with a 24 barrel. I looked at the Savage Ultralight 280AI rifle. But it had a 22 inch barrel. But i wanted a 24 inch or longer barrel. I ended up buying a Browning. A Xbolt Speed Long Range 1@8 26-inch barrel. Has a 26-inch barrel plus the brake. First time seeing that brand of powder. At a good price too.
Hornady Precision Donkey Hunter, loaded with hopes and dreams propellant, firing ELD-X projectiles... Extra Large Donkey Xterminator.
Glad to see u working with the 280AI. I am a big fan of a 280AI. I bought 3 boxes of 280AI 162 gr ELD X ammo. To break my barrel in. Look on ammo seek . U can find Nosler 280AI 140 gr bt ammo. Cheaper than the Hornady ammo. 40.00 for Nosler ammo. 50.00 for Hornady ammo.
Looks like that berrel didn't like that hornady ammo ,😂
Looks like he hit the target with 00 Buck. hahaha
Had good luck with power pro 4000 mr and the 155 ta in mine. Seated .080 off also. Seem to like jump.
Hornady has just gotten so bad over the past five years it's to the point of not being worth buying unless it's for a cartridge you can't source brass for. Their podcast cracks me up they talk like they're rolling out Lapua quality ammo. They just keep releasing new cartridges that are obsolete in a few years.
Headed to Weavers. You say the bacon is pretty good?
@@johngunn4573 the bacon is insanely good!
@alabamareloader my go to is medium smoked sausage, bologna and hot dogs. I'm gonna get a good bit of this one in bacon
Hornady is shooting for quantity over quality it would appear.
Hello ALABAMA 👋 THANKS FOR SHARING,, AND I THINK YOU GOT A SHOOTER MAN ,,I AM GLAD AND FACTORY STUFF SOMETIMES JUST SUCKS .WILL YOUR BRASS RE CHAMBER AFTER SHOOTING? IF I OVER SIZE THE BRASS I HAD BAD S D ..SEE YOU ON THE NEXT ONE BROTHER 🙏😁
Another powder I have had good luck with the 280 rem is 7828ssc
I was in process doing load development with IMR 7828ssc powder. In my 280AI rifle. With a Berger 150 gr Classic Hunter bullet. But i had to have neck surgery 3 days ago. So I had to put things on hold. I hope my gun likes the IMR 7828ssc. I have several pds of it.
Dang good group for a shotgun @100 You will get it tuned in with hand loading i believe
🇺🇸🇺🇸💥🙏💥🇺🇸🇺🇸
I also just had my 280 rechambered in 280 AI. Haven’t had a chance to play with it yet, but excited to shoot it when I get the chance. Also having a 284 win built. Have the terminal absent and 140 gr federal fusion to play with.
Thanks for your videos...
I use a 30-06 with a 18inch barral carbine model...I use winchester 760 power 56gr with Remington cases an CCI primers with 150gr gold dot or fosion... getting right around 2800 to 2825fps on average...it works very good on big black bears....love them
Glad yours works I have a Frankford and a Lyman that don't. I use the powder throw funnel that came with my kit, why did I ever waste time & money with digital scales.
The Speer Grand slam has indeed changed. My understanding is the old Grand Slam was a 2 part core. A harder base lead alloy topped off with a softer lead front section. The new GS uses only the one type of lead throughout the process and therefore more easily manufactured. Which one was best? Anecdotally there was or is an opinion that the original was better. And, just maybe it took time for the new bullet to be perfected (though there's no such thing when it comes to bullet performance). Oh, and that doesn't stop me from using them.
Great video Bama. Love your content! Peace.
For the creedmoor, H4350... N565 in not going to give you anything consistent. Now for the PRC definitely N565, or N560 based on barrel length and projectile of choice.
Make the 7mm wsm great again!
So you got just 1 bullet that failed. A smaller caliber in the lighter weight. What a doosh nozzle.
I am So sick of Remington 700 Talk. Remington is a discrace. Remington Employee, " WALKER", Designed the 700, to be SUPER EASY TO MFG. There is no excuse, with todays modern Technology, it isn't back to full glory, quality, fit finnish and accuracy. Only Savage arms or Elon Musk could make it happen!!!
Midway USA has nosler 280 ackley 140 bt for 40 dollars a box
Excited for this build. I like 280 ai mine is the original chamber factory 280 ai will not work in mine.
Sweet looking Rifle
@@elchupagoats956 thanks buddy!
Do your rifles in the USA need to go to a proof house for testing after a rebuild
No
@ in the uk they all have to be proof tested and marked. It adds a lot of time to a build as our gun smiths tend to build a batch to send. I’ve even had a smith send my rifle for proof just for shortening the barrel was 2 month wait but not all do this as some do it while you wait hour max
@ how do they proof test it? Test fire it with a load at a certain PSI? That sounds interesting
They do a virtual inspection and check tolerances like chamber and headspace then if it looks safe they fire several round threw it two over pressure I think 25% and 30% over max chamber pressure. Then you get a lovely stamp to say it’s safe. The hope is if it going to fail then is in a safe location. Be good to know how meany fail theses days at the proof house with all the modern manufacturing techniques
I was shocked how quick you had it done. Looks nice mate I was wanting a .280ai but the brass isn’t available in the uk easily ended up with a .284 win tikka t3 action converted to long action with a long chamber throat 3.17” OAL with 162 eldx-x. 21” barrel as we all have moderators in the uk and I’m getting 2790fps with n555
Nice gun! Reminds me of the 280AI that I built last year. I went with a 26" barrel and also did not thread the end. I had no plans to put a suppressor or a break on the gun so why not make it as long as possible to take advantage of the added velocity. I love my 280. Been loading 162 gr ELDX with H4831SC. Gonna try some 150 gr TTSX soon. Looking forward to updates on the groups you get. Thanks!
This is my theory about rifle barrel break in ,,don’t you ever shoot your barrel hot ,,always let it cool ,,always keep it clean ,,and always patch and dry the bore after any hunting trip.
I have three of those scopes ,,they need parrelex adjustment and the heck with CDS dial,,,many rifle calibers don’t have enough energy foot pounds to even worry about over three hundred yards
Heck yeah that’s a sweet swap. I own a Savage M110 in 270 Win and one in 300 WSM. I would love a left handed Tikka in a 7mm cartridge to fit inbetween them someday. Whether that is a 280 AI, 7 Rem Mag or 7 PRC. Looking forward to how the load development works out for you
I am finishing up my first custom bolt rifle in 6 Dasher. I have a tikka and a mouser 98 action I want to build off both of them. One is going to be a 280 AI for sure
Just FYI Lee doesn't make a SAAMI 280 AI sizing die. Their dies are for the original 280 AI and will be about 14 thou longer headspace. Assuming your reamer is a SAAMI reamer you will not be able to resize the case enough unless you chuck it in a lathe and take off like 12-14 thou.
That Hornady Precision Hunter was very accurate in my rifle. I made up some handloads (150g ELDx) because I wanted to. I certainly did not need to.
What's the msrp $ on that 243. Looks good
How long did take for tour stuff come in
Less than a week
@@alabamareloader ok
Glad u went from a 270 win to a 280AI. They are a different between the two. 280AI is just a little under a 7 mm mag preference. With less powder in it.
I have a Browning Xbolt 280AI rifle. Mine has a 1@8 26-inch barrel. Plus a hog muzzle brake on it. I topped mine with a Leupold. VX6 HD 4x24x52mm TMOA reticle scope. The Lee 280AI die's isn't SAAMI spec. I bought a set of Lee's 280AI dies. Then I bought a set of RCBS 280AI. Because they where SAAMI spec dies. Found a good deal on Redding 3 piece 280AI SAAMI spec set. I don't know if your gun is SAAMI spec? Though i would let i know about the Lee die's. Lee die's you have to have them build a custom set. To get SAAMI spec. I bought some Hornady ELD X 162 gr factory ammo. I am planning on using Berger Classic Hunter 150 and 168 gr bullets. If I can find some Berger Elite Hunter 175 gr. I am going to try them. I also have some Accubond LR 150 and 168gr bullets. And Hornady ELD X 175 and M 180 gr bullets to try. Never shot a copper bullet. I would like to try some of the Federal Terminal Ascent 155 gr. Please do some more videos on your 280AI. I live in Arkansas. I bought my setup. For a out west spring black bear hunt.
Hey brother 👋 I like that new outfit you know I like that 280 AI as well ,,that will be my next buy . Can't wait to see some test results.Great JOB 👍.
Thread it, you’ll love it.
I love my 280 AI
Congrats on the new setup! Looks great! Can’t wait to see how it shoots.

😃 I Am So Happy You Picked This Cartridge! 🤗 GREAT CHOICE! 🥳
113 gr most likely are from the 277 Sig Fury
Beautiful rifle and very informative. Thanks!
