the best ceremony. There were many ceremonies with wonderful events in other countries but the Olympics are Greek and they should always take place in Greece in the Greek way!

Mikis Theodorakis wrote the score, including the theme heard in this clip, for the 1964 movie of the same name starring Anthony Quinn. It was based on the novel "The Life and Times of Alexis Zorba," written in 1946 by Greek author Nikos Kazantzakis. It won three Academy Awards and Theodorakis was nominated for Best Original Score.

Sé que muchos estarán en desacuerdo pero la riqueza cultural y la elegancia con la que Grecia se presentó en sus Juegos Olímpicos es superior a lo hecho por Barcelona en el 92. La inauguración y el cierre de Atenas 2004 son joyas.
Elegance is a good word for it. I particularly liked the simplicity of the opening ceremony and how full of symbolism and artistry it was. The closing one not so much, it was a bit campy, nothing like the opening. Now, I guess you would know better about Barcelona's '92 Games, but yeah, together with Beijing's opening, the Athens one is probably the best. Let's see what Tokyo has in store for us, I have a feeling it's gonna be great.

@@notquitemytempo1353 closing ceremony was like a celebration however there were symbolisms but it's difficult to understand these if you are not greek . It's another piece of greek history (continuation of previous one) with customs and dances.
Creo que son dos conceptos muy distintos. Barcelona marcó un antes y un después en cuanto a ceremonias de apertura se refiere presentando elementos diversos de la cultura española (con el encendido del pebetero más icónico hasta la fecha) mientras que Atenas hizo un repaso a la historia tanto de los JJOO como de la misma Grecia que es la cuna de nuestra civilización. No creo que se pueda decir que una es mejor que la otra. No obstante Atenas es la ceremonia de apertura que más me ha impresionado y emocionado.
Fue, es y será siempre la mejor de todas.
