  • The Landseer. He’s totally a family dog and loves being around the people he holds dear. He’s loving, with a distinct sweetness of temperament. A warm and friendly dog, he thrives around the house despite his size, he really doesn’t like the outdoors and will always prefer to be a true part of the family.
A total family man / Very loving and sweet / Much prefers to live indoors… and be part of the family
A dependable guardian of children, he loves and cares for kids like no other; the Landseer is protective by nature. If he senses danger he will act immediately, but isn’t hostile to other dogs, strangers or pets, and uses this to stay in touch with situations.
Protective and loving with kids / Acts on danger in an instant / Nice with everyone… until it’s time to not be
He’s intelligent and therefore easy to train. Exercise wise, he needs a moderate daily walk. He also likes to swim or pull sledges, as he’s not afraid of the cold. It’s best to exercise him in the early morning or evening when it’s cool; he doesn’t like the heat much, unless it’s a cosy fire then he’s fine!
Easy to handle and train / Needs moderate exercise / Loves swimming! / Fine with cold and medium temperatures
His thick coat will need a good brushing every other day, more so when he’s moulting. The house may also suffer around this time, as he’ll shed an awful lot! His coat produces waterproof oils, so keep bathing to a minimum to prevent these being lost. This guy is a messy drinker and likes a good old drool now and then.
Needs brushing often / Hairs get everywhere when he moults / Don’t wash away the oils that a good brushing promotes / Drools!
Interesting facts: The Landseer takes his modern name from a large black and white stray named ‘Bob’, the dog portrayed in a 1838 painting by Sir Edwin Landseer. The legend of Bob tells of how he and his owner were twice shipwrecked, the first time Bob saved his owner, the second he couldn’t and swam to shore alone, thus ending up a stray.
Named after Sir Edwin Landseer… painter of dogs / Brave hero Bob featured in a Landseer painting / Ended his life a beautiful stray
The Landseer. The ultimate family companion, indoors and out.
    Great all round companion.

I have a 14 month old Landseer. I brush Ichinojo at least 3x/week and each time I come away with enough hair to knit a sweater! He spends most of his time outdoors but my house is still perpetually covered in black and white hair. He's great around small children and he loves the water.
