LIFESAVER! Most videos and manuals add in changing the pulleys, water pump, etc... making the instructions more involved than they need to be if I'm just changing the belt. Thanks for a simplified video!
Would be nice if you showed the timing marks instead of the camera whipping by at Mach 1...especially as there are two notches and two marks on the cam shaft pulley
Thank you SO Much John Pope. You are a blessing and a savior!! I have had such a conundrum of a time figuring out that ding dang darn tensioner pulley mechanics out. Had to replace front crank seal and lost sync in the cam/crank position. Thank you so much!! Stay Blessed!
Thanks for this video. It was quite helpful. Is there anything that needs to be set or adjusted with the distributor before dismantling the timing belt?
John, thank you for the video. I have a problem now that the timing belt wants to slide off. Slowly when I turn the crank shaft and when I tried a quick start and stop of the engine, it was two thirds of the way off of the cam shaft. Any suggestions? 95 16 valve suzuki sidekick
Hey friend what happen if the timing belt is not tight? I have a suzuki 01 steem and when I turn it on a sound like a diesel car is coming from where I put oil please tell me if you have any clue what it can be tnks
Does the radiator have to come out or is there enough room to work once the fan is removed? Also is it a good idea to change the water-pump at the same time? Mine has 194.000km and will be due (spec is every 100.000km) sometime this summer. Thanks.
I have a 96 Suzuki X90 and the timing belt had been replaced before by someone else. I always mark items before pulling any timing belts off and also my cam sprocket has 2 timing notches on one of the notches right below the notch it has the letter i and the other timing notch has a E and when I had number one cylinder at top dead center by the oil pump mark it didnt line up with any notch so i made another revolution on my oil pump crankshaft and top dead center and the notch on the cam still didnt line up. I removed my distributor cap and the rotor button was about 30 degrees past number one firing on the distributor so i rotated the crankshaft again 1 complete revolution and my distributor was on number 4 ready to fire on the distributor but the crankshaft was on the top dead center mark. So do I put number one piston top dead center and put the notch with the E on the cam and pull my distributor out and place it on number one firing on my distributor. I dont even see how this engine was even running. Thanks
I don't understand why the engine needs to be turned over twice if you never removed the cam or rotated the crank while the belt was off. Can you explain. I didn't do this and now my engine backfires when I try to start it up.
Hello Is it possible to replace suzuki Alto engine gasoline 3 cylinders 12 v by another Suzuki altoengine gasoline 4 cylinders 16 V? Thank you for your advice .
Bonjour Est ce que c'est possible de remplacer moteur suzuki Alto essence 3 cylindres 12 v par un autre moteur Suzuki alto essence 4 cylindres 16 V ? MERCI pour votre conseil .
Do anyone knows where I might be able to find a flex plate(flywheel) for my Suzuki sidekick automatic 1995.... Any information will be greatly appreciated....
Why do you say to set the Crank gear to the cutout spot on the oil pump on the bottom right side? The oil pump has at mark pointing at the pulley at the 12 o'clock position that you set the crank gear too. Also, the manual says to torque the crank bolt to 52 ft lbs. Not 95. I don't understand how your engine works.
I have a question maybe someone can help me out,I have a 93 geo tracker when the point on the cam is pointing up (same as crank it puts me at 180 deg off, when the cam point is down towards the crank im dead on fire.Anyone know why this is?
+Rocko Baninsky because the engineer set it up to time the cam #4 firing at TDC and spark at #1 firing, a fact. that is correct, 6pm on cam cog is #1 firing 1,3,4,2 firing order, cam turns 90degrees per fire.

Spot on! Cleared it up for me! Read the Chilton but seeing somone actually do it is great!

Check out fixkicks website on timing. I believe he covers x90s as well.
Thanks John. I just changed my timing belt today and referred to this video.
Just saved my butt. Thanks for the video!
Hi, I have a question,I am sorry but I couldn't understand something, what is the point top of timing?
Thanks!

only on 8v,
not 16v this is 16valve, see my posts with real factory pages, and not rumors.

don't listen to this arm chair mechanic, the crankshaft bolt torque is 89-98 lb.ft.

I put mine together using the service manual. Runs perfect and no leaks...

Thank you, very helpful
Great video love it
Good job not showing the timing marks that are so important
Good instructions John, I will show my mechanic (of sorts) here in Java ;-)
