    Ah the classic XEV manifold tick. My Vectra B had exactly the same issue, I just ignored it. The sound actually brings back a lot of good memories of that car 😊

    Good video Steve. Try checking the exhaust manifold. I've had it before with xevs. The exhaust manifolds are prone to cracking. I managed to get a genuine new gm item and, that cured it.

      Thanks Matt, someone else has also suggested the manifold so definitely worth me checking it again, I had it out in 2020, everything looked okay then that was because it does sound like it has a blowing exhaust maybe it’s because of the wrong back-box I have a second hand one for it so I think an exhaust video is due soon 😂 thanks for the suggestion, I’m sure to look into it.

    That timing on the intro 😂. Good video Steve, annoying it didn’t solve the clicking issue but a good reference video for changing the belt

      Cheers Sammy, it also shows that things don’t always go as planned especially on video it shows I’m as human as everyone else I suppose 😂 cheers mate 👍

    Evening mate , it was me saying it was a lifter tapping away , I’m not so sure now , pop to Halfords and get some wyns I think do a
    Additive to reduce the noise of worn out hydraulic lifters it’s only around £8.00 and as you have just changed the oil it worth a go . If I lived local to you I would pop round and give you a hand
    All the best Phil

      Hi Phil, it’s worth a try I will be disappointed if it’s warn lifters due to the low mileage and that the engine looks clean on the inside to, but as it was a London car it could have a lot of run hours on it, it’s around £100 for a new set off eBay so maybe I do a top end re-build in the future, I will try out the additive next time I go there, thanks again for your help and suggestions.

    Of course these had the plastic cam belt rollers. Back in the day these would fail destroying the engine. Even made it to bbc watchdog. They upgraded the part to better plastic. GF25 and GF50 from memory. Always worth changing them with the belt

      I replaced the belt in 2019 so definitely due for replacement, this does indeed have the plastic rollers that was also replaced, I’m sure it was a gates kit so should be a reputable brand. Thanks Andy.

    Hi Steve, good video mate, shame it wasn't the outcome you wanted.
    Sounds tappets or exhaust blowing? , maybe you've found it by now?
    I was going to say that it would be easy to change the bearing, but I was thinking it probably wasn't worth it as the part probably wasn't expensive, then you said £100 and I thought again 😅
    Cheers Steve, thanks for the videos, mate 👍

      @Cavalier_Steve  Год назад +1

      Hi Pete, thank you! Yes I’ve found the issue the video will be coming soon, it was an expensive tensioner but it needed changing as the new one was so much stronger than the old one although it was still doing it’s job i know £100 it’s mad money for something like that, I think that’s the trouble as these cars get older 🤷‍♂️ oh well.
      Your welcome Pete and see you in the next one. Cheers.

    Hi Steve, it's so frustrating when you're a 100% sure what the cause of a fault is after spending good money and many hours changing a part that you are sure would fix it only to find it's no better, I've been there so many times so I feel your pain mate😡😭
    My first thought when I heard it was a manifold gasket was leaking, I did think of a tappet but it didn't quite sound right for that or a lifter🤔 so is it the air injector pipe mate or haven't you found the issue yet👍

    • @Cavalier_Steve
      @Cavalier_Steve  Год назад +2

      Hi John, yes it’s really annoying, I was so sure it was the tensioner at fault. The tensioner was worn out through as the difference in tension was very noticeable I had to take off the engine mount anyway to change the belt and that was very warn so it needed to be done, at least it wasn’t a total waste of time. Could be the manifold I guess maybe thats the next one to look into, I need to fix the SAI the pipe is split I need to find another one but may just put a standard hose on it if I can’t find one. Cheers mate 👍

      If the tensioner was worn then it's a good job done Steve a bit of preventative maintenance is always a good thing it saves you getting stranded somewhere.
      Have you got one on those mechanics stethoscope? they can sometimes help depending on what sort of sound it is they don't always work on air leaks but it found a knocking non return valve on my compressor.
      I don't know how much pressure is involved with the air injector pipe but a normal pipe might work as a temporary fix. Hope you soon find the fault mate🤞👍

      @@JohnWD40TC02 It was definitely worth the replacement that’s for sure, most of the other comments have been saying the exhaust could be the culprit, so I’m going to investigate that next, I think, it’s common for these engines exhaust manifold to crack so well worth taking a look. Yeah a standard hose should work as it’s only air that goes through it. Thanks John, I hope it doesn’t cost too much either.

    Sounds like exhaust manifold leak. Not 100% though

    • @split_pin

      100% is that. Take off the heat shield and you'll see a dash of soot on the block where the gases have been escaping. As long as its not affecting running or emissions you can just ignore it. Classic XEV characteristic!

    • @Cavalier_Steve
      @Cavalier_Steve  Год назад +2

      @@split_pin very true that! So I’ve found out, they eat manifold exhaust gaskets apparently. Cheers 👍

    Old tensioner was rather weak
