Hi Steve, looks like you've got your work cut out there mate but you are better than you think at shaping metal as it's a difficult job but what you have done so far looks fine to me, with that sill you could cut it off at the outer radius as the flat top part of the sill looks ok so you could hide your joint where the outer rubber trim part fits, you don't have to use all the sill mate just cut it up into sections that you need if it helps, good luck mate and keep going👌🙏👍

Thanks John! I did think about only using half the sill, but I think I would rather repair what’s there but until I cut into it I won’t know so the plan could well change. A lot of thanks goes to @yourshire car restoration watching them do there work really has helped me use there methods, hopefully I would get much better the more I do, just like spray painting really. I can’t wait to get back on to it, thanks to the strong winds on Christmas Eve I have been digging out old posts that have rotted away to replace them this has taken way way to much time!! Hopefully get back onto this in the next couple of days. Cheers mate. Hope all is well with you. 👍

It's like most things really the more you do it the better you get, I need to practice with more filler work as I always seem to over block my filler so it ends up low even if my block is bigger than the repair it still manages to look low after I've done🤦‍♂😂
I bet your looking forward to get some more spraying done Steve as you was getting better when you did it last summer, it will be great to see some more painting vids from you👏🙏👍

@JohnWD40TC02 Yeah that’s right John, my filler work isn’t the best either but as you say practice makes you better. Yes I can’t wait to get onto spraying again, I was wanting to do my wing mirror covers on the Cavalier before the end of last year, I have the paint for it just need the time and weather to do it really, I can’t wait to be honest as it seems like a long time since I last sprayed.

RO is a Luton area code so it was probably not registered too far away from where it was built. I've been past the Vauxhall plant and it's huge.

Yeah both of my MK3 Cavaliers are RO the polar sea blue one was registered and used around Edgware. This one lived in Bedfordshire all its life as far as I know. I would have loved to have looked around the factory in its hay day. Cheers.

It was once a giant car factory.

Yes they was, they was almost street furniture at one point, the Vectra looked nice but you had more electronic stuff to go wrong, you can’t go wrong with the simpler stuff, trouble is parts are so hard to find now depending on what’s needed.

@@Cavalier_SteveSteve, if you’re ever stuck for Vauxhall parts, there’s a guy up in Scotland with RUclips channel OnceDrivenForeverSmitten, Dougie is his name and he works on loads of Mk 3 Cavaliers. He’s always sourcing parts from everywhere and knows the cars inside out, he used to work for Vauxhall. He drives all over the UK to buy or look at 80’s 90’s Vauxhall’s. He even drove to France last year to buy a UK registered Mk 3 GLS that lived in France.. I’m sure he’d appreciate you reaching out to him. youtube.com/@DougieSRi?si=-eDSwYo12Ove2mHz

@@JohnMcMahon. I think I came across @OnceDrivenForeverSmitteb channel nearly 2 years ago, I really enjoy watching his videos especially his tinkering videos and collection videos. I’ve never really reached out to him only to offer my advice or general comments, he has more knowledge than what I do. Thanks for the link though and the idea of reaching out. Cheers.

Steve, I’m assuming this Cav is a 2.0i.. Is it an 8 valve or 16 valve?
Great work by the way. Sometimes trial and error is the best way to go. It can be quite rewarding teaching yourself new things, especially when you enjoy it.

Hi John, yes it’s the 2.0 8V I believe the C20NE. Thank you ☺️ I like to show what a beginner can do so others can have ago themselves, as you say it’s very rewarding teaching yourself it’s takes longer with lots of frustration but so satisfying when you finally get it. Cheers!
