- Our Omega estate gets a new timing belt and other work after doing very well over the past few years. Much deserved TLC with more to come!

Another entertaining video Dougie.
The rear arches will soon be rusty again, especially on the ultra salty Scottish roads. Removing the rubber inserts from the side panels of the rear loadspace will reveal more grot inside the rear wings (and above the arches) - an ideal time to squirt some rust prevention in there onto the inside top of the arches.
Surface rust on the front chassis rails is the least of your problems. The offside scuttle drain empties into the chassis rail, leading to a crumbly bulkhead and potential for the steering box to become unstable in time.
For the sake of a bolt, clips, and a couple of connector plugs, the whole intake / MAF assembly just lifts out, making any work on the front of the engine much easier.
Looking forward to the next installment.👌
I want the 90s / early 00s back so badly. Big V6 engines, saloons/estates and not an SUV in sight. Bliss.
She's a brilliant workhorse. It's been a handy tow car.
The omega was easily Vauxhalls best car from the last 25 years it was excellent.
A lot better than the insignia that falls apart in front of your eyes. Modern Vauxhall's are crap love the old stuff tho
Had 3 Omegas - a 2.5 V6 CDX manual - and 2 2.6 V6 MV6 Autos
Brilliant cars
Did cam belts / water pumps / oil coolers / rocker covers / clutch / 4 wheel alignment / heater valve ( one at the back which always leaks / Diff
The list is endless
But still they were great to drive and sounded amazing 👍
31:48 Today's breakfast : coffee and donuts. Great outcome, Dougie!
Bit of once driven forever sideways there Dougie !🤣🤣well done great video as always
I had a 2001 opel omega caravan. 2.5 v6 imported from Germany. It had all the luxury you could get in that time
Great little Tinkering video Dougie, nice to see the mighty Omega getting some love.
She's a great workhorse Dougie can't beat the space and towing ability. I'd fit an Elite interior, love all the toys.
Takes me right back to my days as an apprentice did a quite few of these belts, it got to point where I was known in the workshop as the cambelt kid good times😂. I remember Essex police had two estates but with the 3.2 V6 on a 6speed manual box which I believe was from America. Very quick for what it was, and suspension wise I'm sure they both had some sort of active damping. Keep up the good work Dougie👍🏻
Love your estate. The Vauxhall Omega was sold in North America as the Cadillac Catera, “The Caddy that Ziggs”, but only as a saloon. I dearly wish GM had brought the wagon version over too.
Owned a 2001 2.2 cdx petrol auto brought it for 700 quid with no history 145k miles intending to drive it for the remainder of its mot then scrap, but I ended up driving it for 4 years did autogearbox fluid and timing belt at 150k and she finally got overwhelmed with rot by 176k miles but I still managed to sell to a omega enthusiast for 300 quid.
Best car I ever owned, being a wagon it had mega boot space for my fishing gear, only downside is 23mpg and oil leaks.
Back in the day one of my work colleagues had a manual gearbox Cavalier GLS with that 2.5 V6 lump. How I wish that car was about today!
Miss my omega estate badly, i would buy it back in a heartbeat😢
Love the omega, it’s like an big old gentleman 🙂👍
I had the saloon 3.2V6,great car with irmscher full bodykit
You cannreally see where Holden got its ideas from! Looks exactly like a VT Commodre wagon (bar the front end)
What a find that was with those miles. Great video, I liked how you explained everything in detail, enjoyed that bit of hooning at the end too :) I had a 2.0 select up until recently but the 16v variant, actually didn't go too badly, very comfy car. It's actually being used right now for filming on The Crown.
It seems crazy that timing belts were introduced as a convenient improvement over the faff of changing timing chains, and it’s now mutated into changing perfectly good water pumps and tensioner assemblies as well every few years “while you’re in there”. Did you compare old and new out of interest ?
This is one of my favourite vehicles.
Have driven both a Catera and a Saturn L300 SW (estate), both automatic, great vehicles.
dougie get it on a set of k&n cones would sound so nice and save a lot of plumbing.
I had a 2.5 CD on a V plate for 4 years back in the early noughties. Beautiful car.
Thanks for sharing BTW you can get a VW "99" Wiper relay which is programmable . It fits in the same socket under the bonnet no problem.
When you want an intermittent wipe you just switch the wiper off using the stalk on the steering and when you want the wipers to wipe you simply switch the intermittent wipe back on.
The relay remembers the time delay between off & on and will wipe using that interval
R553KMW the BMW-diesel-engined Omega estate from the HubNut channel has very sadly bitten the dust - Once driven, forever smitten. Forever.😢
Good stuff again,I love this car. All the company cars I’ve had have been estate cars as need them to cart printer parts. I would love one of these cars it would be ideal
Great video dougie always liked the omegas I can remember traffic police having them and the senators before them to both rapid cars
We used to use these cars in the funeral industry as deceased removal cars, they were great work horses and were a great drive
I've just bought one!
Bit of a learning experience from the ground up. Very sooty from all the slow miles and unfortunately been owned by an idiot in-between the funeral service and myself it would seem 😬
We will see!
Another interesting vid, much better than the load of rubbish on telly on a Saturday night. Really like the Omega but if it were mine I think I’d choose a different set of Vauxhall rims.
Love the channel
Keep the content coming
The Omega is a great workhorse, I do like it, I enjoyed watching the toothed belt and spark plug installation
I’m really looking forward to the continuation of the arch repair in the next episode 😊.
Great video Scottie, your definitely not afraid of hard work. I did cringe at the paintwork till you said it was temporary though.
another awesome video mate!! thanks
Don sell it keep it brilliant car loved them along with the carlton model wish you could resue one of them.
Those Vauxhall V6 engines of that time (along with Ford's equivalents) were extremely sensitive to coolant levels and to coolant condition. They were consequently rather prone to head gasket failure, an expensive job because of the two heads. Also beware of failure of the plastic impeller in the coolant pump.
Nice bit of TLC for the Omega she is a great motor 👍🏴
Nice one 👍
Evening Dougie great to see another fab episode of Once driven forever smitten 😀
Shhhh dont mention the word fab, its a touchy subject 😂
@@godzilla12325 lol 😂 I was thinking Fab when I made my comment lol 😂
Nice motor
Another great video has always Dougie 👍
Great video as always 👍
Great work Dougie 😎💪
That's a lovely motor always wanted one.
Love the video
I sure miss my Omega est had it from 2002 to 2015 cost peanuts to maintain. What a workhorse
Buy one back, they will soon cost gold to get.
You really need to replace that Shite Sony radio with the original Dougie.
I think you got carried away with the DRIVE by car shots😂even so still an enjoyable video thank you.
Great video
Good work Dougie. Yep - the body needs some tlc to protect it from those Scottish winters.
Great work. Rather you than me changing those plugs.
Nice video mate, for a job that’s a pain to show I thought you done a great job filming the timing bot change! Thanks for sharing always enjoy your videos. Cheers.
I've liked it so you MUST buy more cars. From miles away. Cheers Dougie, loved it as usual.
All those German car enthusiasts didn't realise the Omega was built in Germany. Numpties.
Even in auto they are short geared cars, as my dad had a 2.5 V6 CDX auto saloon for a long time and then got a 3.2 MV6 estate auto. Nice big buses. The CDX had a nicer ride quality compared to the MV6. I think the MV6 is currently residing in Fife these days.
Keep hold of that 👍🏻
I know you are a Cav man first and foremost but for me the Omega is my favourite on the fleet. Like you, I miss the market sector of the big, luxury mainstream car and finding one with such low mileage, low ownership and with that glorious engine and at that price is superb. I'm so glad you're going to keep it. It's wonderful.
Am I right in thinking that, for a short time there was an even lower entry level than the Select called the "Edition S" too?
Dougie, I was in a garage getting work done and in that garage was a 1991 J reg Lotus Carlton having two new turbos and some other work done. Apparently, its going up for sale after the work is done!!
I used to have an R reg 3.0ltr MV6 saloon. That thing was so comfortable to drive. Only thing it missed was cruise control!
What a cool intro! Also please make a patreon ;D
The Opel omega are famous cars 👍
Geoff Buys Cars done an Upload on his recently Dougie, same colour etc, I dropped him a link for this video, hope ya don't mind.
Cheers again fella.
The want for an Omega is strong. I’ve got a feeling they’ll all be wrecked by now though.
Omega's generally had excellent grip in snow, back in the day, I remember while others found it hard driving in snow, these especially the automatic are 👌
Confirmed. Just went 7 out of 11 km on a dirt road with snow at places with my 8-valve Omega. Stopped climbing further because I was literally grinding the snow with the underbelly and were in danger of remaining stuck. But went farther than some 4x4's :)
wife's reaction ? Priceless : "If we had a Vitara ... don't stop, keep going, keep going, the scenery is marvellous!"
I rented one identical to this as a new car in Europe 20 years ago. It was a fine machine but I hated the heater and AC controls.
The Omega was definitely the best mass market executive saloon easily the equal of a BMW 5 Series and sportier drive than a Mercedes. Audis are built and finished fantastically but they have a different driveline front wheel drive or four wheel drive.
The closest Mass Market Executive to drive was the Granada Scorpio but the Cologne V6 wasn't a patch on the smooth GM V6s.
Peugeot 605, Rover 827, Citroën XM, Renault Safrane, Passat V6, Hyundai Sonata, Kia Magentis were all just bigger, softer better equipped V6 Cavaliers.
The Toyota Camry, Nissan QX and Honda Legend were very special and solidly built but still front wheel drive and the Legend cost as much as a BMW.
The Omega kept the recipe of the Senator and multiplied it by 10. A truly great car in six cylinder form.
The Omega Estate was as good as the Mercedes E Class and really Shamed the 5 Series Touring.
That's the Holden Commodore in Australia. Came with a 3.8v6 from Buick or a v8 chev.
I have omega v6 mv6 elite wanted to know how to change cam belt thank for video keep up the good work looking forward to air con as mine req re gas and rear arch love my omega
99T cdx 2.0 Ecotec 2006 - 2010 lovely car plenty toys but rubbish engine. 2 friends flat moves including wardrobes no bother.
Did both front drop links and was last car I changed my own brake pads serviced. Bought it with a new head gasket, water pump and radiator 3 years 25tho went again. Local garage did head again but never trusted it. Sorn for a year £300 weighed in.
Trip computer was handy trying to get 29 mpg. Faulty alarm used to annoy neighbors.
How is it so low millage. I love these reminds me of the police. Always waned one and the carlton.
I sadly think, you'll be doing that arch again next year. It didn't look like you used any cure rust before applying the filler. I also think that the water will get in through the P38 causing it to blister around the edges.
Better than the Senator? The lack of a senator estate was something I couldn't get my head around. Ford had a Scorpio estate, BMW had one in the 5 series but I know really that the BMW 7 series was actually the rival for the senator. So why did GM go with the estate on the Omega?? I've seen I think senator hearses which in all tense and purposes is an estate so surely they could have designed a good rear end and given the Traffic police something else to put all their gear in. I wonder if anyone has even put the C30SE engine into an omega.
Awesome v log & an awesome car ..what's the towing limit of an omega ?
Brilliant car dougie,do you reckon you could fit a v6 into my insignia they sound awesome 😂😂👍
Somebodys playing with his go pro 😂
Ohhh Bob
Shame VX never put a V8 in them for the UK market. Could have had an M5 challenger and a good chunk of change spare 👍
Real do Dougie! Another triumph (Vauxhall 😂)
Do you still drive HGV's for a living, or only for journalism purposes? It's good to have access to a workshop to carry out repairs, especially with the constant rain lately.
Had one back in the day, lovely car but the depreciation was horrific and the MPG was not good even by the standards of the day.
What's that head torch Dougie? Looks really good for car work.
Omega well worth keeping on. Once you get the lanolin on it you'll be good to go for a while yet.
It's got it from Dingbro. There's a load of different brands, they're about £20. Only lasts 3 hours but the light is mental, blinded Kenzo a couple of times with it 😂
@@DougieSRi 🤣🤣 Cheers man, I'll have a look for one next time I'm in there.
It's a good looking car. Don't see any about! Just purchased a 56 plate Astra 1.8 Design with just 16,500 on the clock. One lady owner from new. Has 14 Vauxhall dealer stamps in the service book.
Dougie my 20xe nova has had the timeing belt on it 10years done 10/11000 been off the road 2 years would you just do the belt or everything belt loos good no cracks.
Vauxhall - Better. By design.
I wish my 2.8 V6 Signum
Had a belt and not timing chains😂
👍😉
Do a egr delete on the omega
Saab ?
Would you ever think of selling the omega
I have a 3L elite ex unmarked police with 170k on the clock, still capable of 160mph.
model year? manual?
@@omegapolat 2001 3L Elite Manual LSD
@@Soulvex in here manual+lsd we cant pass 245. but with 95 96 97 diff and lsd 260km. diesel diff makes nearly 280km. i think police cars in UK have old diff. 2001+ have 4.22 ratio in here
@@omegapolat The Police man i spoke to when getting the car said he thinks it has a 2.5L v6 gearbox but wasnt 100% sure. I don't know either caus my 2.5 manual i had years ago only did about 140mph max
@@Soulvex 3.0 2.5 same gearbox, but 2.0 different. but i find on internet some another alfacodes and think some of police specials. as you know we cant have that specials in our country. but we see after new engines in 2001 most of cars have lsd in our country. and they fault after 200k km, repair cost expensive.
Absolute bargain for your car I’m the same I’ve just picked up a 2001 on a 51 mk4 astra sxi with a genuine 45000 on the clock from an elderly gentleman he owned the car from new always serviced by Vauxhall drives like a new car
That’s a lovely car that omega. See less and less of them about
Get some metal Vectra rocker covers bought before you do the rocker cover gaskets, the Omega plastic rocker covers warp… you’ll end up fitting new seals and it’ll still leak 👍🏼
how much that metal covers now in UK?
Cam cover gaskets leak due to using cheap aftermarket parts, combined with a blocked up breather system. Fitting Vectra metal covers can potentially blow the rear crank seal if you don't maintain breathers!
sorry but i think 3-4 cams half teeth early, maybe camera angle shown like that but top aux roller must be 7-8 oclock, your was 3 oclock (i think)
in my proper job, top aux roller always 7-8 o clock
right down aux roller always 10-11 o clock
there can be half teeth different between 1 and 2 (or between 3 and 4) its because cam and sprocket fault BUT CANT BE DİFFERENT BETWEEN 1-2 AND 3-4. top aux roller for that correction. right down aux roller for correction between cams and crank. i hope my english enought.
what makes half teeth do, low mpg and a little power loss.
Mate it’s the second belt he’s putting in it he knows what he’s doing 😂
@@gregshearer423 mine was above 3000 engines. just wanna warn him, aux rollers not have nation, same as UK or Turkey
Great shame that cars like the Carlton Estate and Omega Estate aren't made anymore. Everyone seems to have gone "lifestyle" over practicality :-(
I had 2ltr 8 values back years ago and 3ltr diesel it was a beamer engine power wise there didn't seem to be much of a difference
Yes bet you were out like a shot...😅
It’s a braw sounding engine
Have you changed your cat 🐈 didn't Bob have ginger pattern as well black and white I hope nothing happened he was a great character to your end credits
I have two cats, Bob and Denny. Bob's a girl btw 👍😀😸
@@DougieSRi Transgender cats now? World's gone mad!😉
Love that shape of omega it reminds me when the police had them in road wars on tv
Dougie, sell this bag of nails and only have cavaliers. Cavaliers are all the only cars needed on once driven forever smitten
Tidy wee video that
