  • In this topsy-turvy video I replace the exhaust manifold gasket and the rear silencer on my Vauxhall Cavalier, will it stop that tappity ticking sound from the engine? Let’s find out.

    Hi Steve, I didn't envy you on either of those jobs as I used to hate working on anything exhaust related with all the sized joints and bolts that feel like they are coming out only to find they end up sharing off 🤦‍♂even when I was younger it wasn't often I changed an exhaust, I remember my dad saying "just take it to quick fit lad"🤭😂
    Your car sounds so much better now the manifold gasket has been replaced, I think it was the video when you had the rocker cover off that I mentioned it might be the manifold gasket and for a change I was right which is unlike me🙄I bet you are chuffed it's all fixed mate👏🤌👍

      Hi John, I hate exhaust work I usually get rubbish in my eyes as a guarantee, and yes I have had to drill and tap stripped bolts.
      I think you dad is right there! If it’s a moody U bracket I just cut them off and buy a new one.
      Well done on the manifold gasket I honestly thought it was the back box that was giving that raspy noise.
      Yes happy now it sounds normal and not like a boy racer car 😂😁 it’s improved the performance as well I’m sure the last exhaust was restricting the flow! Hopefully the MPG may improve a little or maybe not 🤔 😂
      Cheers mate.

    Hi Steve, good video mate, you sounded a little bit deflated at the start mate, I know the feeling exactly when you get camera trouble, you got there in the end.
    I must say, I'm so glad you started it with the tail pipe on, I feel sorry for the new generation and there electric vehicles because the sound just won't be there, cheers Steve 👍

      Hi Pete, yes there is a good reason why I was feeling like that , the Mrs wanted me to take her to MK shopping centre in the morning and I hate it there, all the shops are for women in my opinion, but that’s another story, I really don’t like these electric cars, I’m totally deaf in my right ear so I can’t hear them coming at least you have more of a chance with a good old fossil fuel engine, I know they are fast cars but so is a microwave at cooking a roast dinner but you don’t want a roast dinner from a microwave it just isn’t the same 😂😂 cheers mate thanks for watching I will see about coming across a bit better in the next one 😁

      @Cavalier_Steve That explains it, It's always difficult juggling theses things, I quite lucky. My wife really doesn't like shopping, so there's no pressure there, cheers mate, PS I presume when you said you love fitting exhausts you were joking 😉 😜

      @@peteshobbies5383 Haha yes that’s my version of sarcasm 😂 your very lucky indeed my wife doesn’t drive so it’s left to me to ferry her around I don’t mind that but it does get in the way of doing busy work.

    Hi Steve, that's an interesting one - using copper slip for the exhaust join seal - I was wondering how you got that exhaust join apart relatively easy :) I guess you probably don't get as much rain and salt on the roads down there as Scotland, but any exhausts I do usually inovolves a grinder, hammer and chisels and lots of F words!
    Sounds way better with the new manifold gasket and backbox, nice job.

      @Cavalier_Steve  11 месяцев назад

      That’s usually me as well to be fair, I used copper slip before I knew it could be used as a sealer for the exhaust, it works well. You guys do get lots of rain in Scotland. Yes it does sound much better and seems to have more power as well the old one was definitely restricting the flow! Hopefully get better MPG as well, maybe it will make it worse 😯😂 Cheers Andy!

    That new backbox looks like one off the Cav V6 or SRI.

      Yes I think they use the same back box, its what this car should have had originally. Cheers.

    The exhaust manifold is on the back of my engine. That would be a nightmare to get at.

    • @Cavalier_Steve
      @Cavalier_Steve  Год назад

      Yes sounds like it would be, what car is it on?
      Just take it slow with the nuts and go back the other direction if they start to get tight to avoid sheering them. Good luck 🤞
