There's so many different ways to bleed brakes. Intresting to see how this works, I used one of those halfords type kits, you rig up a bottle to the master cylinder and pressurise it to a tyre valve. One time I used the wrong cap fitting and it exploded brake fluid all over the front of the car! Usually only use that if changing fluid.
I've also used one of those one way bleed valves with the traditional pump the pedal method and that really seemed to firm up the brakes.

That’s the issue I have with the sealey pressure bleeder.
As you say there are so many different methods todo breaks, my one way valve is so old it’s knacks really it’s part of one of the first things I bought for my tool kit so reluctant to bin it, silly really to keep hold of a useless cheap but if kit.

Hi Steve, interesting video mate I used to love working on my old cars but these days it's difficult to do anything to the newer ones even my 2003 SLK is quite complex with computers everywhere, I hate to think how you would get on with the new all electric as you need to shut them down before you do anything to them and even that needs a degree in computer science🙄 🤷‍♂
My SLK went in for it's MOT on Thursday and I was pleased to find out that it passed with no problems again, I bought the car in 2015 and apart from a set of tyres it's passed every year😎👌
    Cheers Steve🙏👍

Hi John the old German cars are really solid, I don’t think you would get many problems with them that’s the sort of right age of when they was still making good cars! Tyres can be forgiven I think as the UV damages them overtime with no use anyway. yes you would be amazed at how much information is available to a scan tool even to a car as old as your SLK there are so many modules and the information in them is astonishing. I had a 2005 Passat you could see how much pressure was being applied to the breaks, but is it needed??? Hold cars didn’t that’s progress for you.
Congratulations on the Pass though John hopefully another year of trouble free motoring.
      Steve.

Ok 👍 will do, 😃 I wish you luck not that you would need it as it’s a nice simple job to do, the hardest part is if you have any stuck bleed nipples and getting any stuck air out if the system.

I use my finger as a one way valve on the open nipple , messy but quick !! Also you will need to coheres a helper
As brake fluid is hydroscopic it’s easy to wash down with water after

Ahh you found me ok then 👍 the trouble is, I need to make friends in the first place they are somewhat rare… that’s a good tip about washing down break fluid I will remember that one if incase, nope, I mean next spill some. Hope you enjoyed the video Mel. Cheers.

Good video Steve. Great to be working on proper cars. Still on the lookout for a mk3 but, nothing has turned up yet😢

Hi Matt, what are you looking for specifically? If you can wait (don’t know how long it will take!) I may sell the one I want to do up when I’ve finished it. I will let you know you will see it on the channel anyway as I want to record my progress with it.
Yes I love working on these cars they give me so much more pleasure than modern stuff. But the Cavalier I want to work on is my next project mini series 😊 so keep an eye out.
Good luck in finding one in the meantime if you can’t wait for this one.
      All the best. Steve.

I'm looking for a 2.0 8v ideally. I'm not after perfection, just a nice usable car. I'm in no rush, i need to finish off my Novas first. I will keep up to date, with the videos. Keep me in mind though

I might give this a go next time, i paid Kwik fit 40 quid last time for the vectra - better not try it on the wife's car for a first timer though!

Hi Alan, definitely worth it for the £30 odd saving, ideal beginner project as well! I think some garages literally change the fluid in the master cylinder reservoir and don’t actually bleed the new stuff though the callipers, slaves or the pipes. At least you know that it’s been done right. The only snag you could come up against is any bleed nipples could be sized or worse sheer off. As long as your carful you will be ok 👍 go for it!
