WooooW just found your channel, Just started yesterday learning with a yyf replay ( response ) Your videos are amazing and although I’m terrible your voice and clear instructions are so helpful.! Thank you so much for making these amazing videos 🇬🇧❤️
My recommendation for the best beginner yo-yo is the Yo-yo Factory Velocity. It's fully adjustable from beginner (responsive) play, up to advanced (unresponsive) play. Unfortunately the Duncan Butterfly is not a very good yo-yo.
Old vid but dude I just want to genuinely say that Mark is such a good teacher and he has helped me so much with learning the art of yoyoing. Much love Mark!
Thank you! I really appreciate that! And I'm super glad to be of help. Man... you want to see an old vid... check out my beginner trick video! :D 2012 baby!
DUDE your method for untwisting a string..... I've been yoing for over 10 years now and I've never seen that before. I laughed so hard. Extremely impressed and subscribing
Responsive yoyo has a thin bearing and will return to your hand when you pull back on the string. Unresponsive has a much wider bearing. This allows it to spin much longer. An unresponsive yoyo will not return to your hand when you pull on the string. You'll need to learn a technique called a "bind" to make it return to you.
To add upon what @MikeLeininger said, a responsive yo-yo often does not have a bearing. Fixed-axle yo-yos (like the Spintastics Technic, or the all wood yo-yos from the 50s) are responsive. You pull on the string, and they come back up. The explanation in the video is at 0:51
I don't think I've heard it called that, although maybe Monty Python knew about it long before any of us! I think you were actually been the first person to tell me about Boingy Boingy back in the 90s, hanging out with Stevie G in the Great Hall, doing yo-yo tricks.
I bought mine directly from Dale Oliver who used to own the company, but you can find them in a Google search. There are several available on eBay and Etsy. The ProYo is very similar, and they're widely available
Best videos evee they way you explain stuff is very basic and simple Its amazing how ggod your videos are they are so intersting too I don't feel bored watching them
@@MarkHayward Your family's teaching legacy is definitely being carried on by you! I've already posted this video today on my Twitter page. I follow you here on RUclips & Twitter. I'd love to have you as a Guest Star at my JHC Institute in the future. Our Tiger Phoenix Kung-fu & Tai-chi has the martial arts Yo-Yo as one of out 7 weapons. I don't expect my students or even black sashes to perform like you! With admiration, Dr. William Jarvis
Bro you are amazing I've been trying to do better yoyo tricks to impress my friends and stuff and this video was AMAZING now i know so many great tricks.
I'm not sure on that specific yo-yo, but I'd bet a different bearing would do it. The folks at Yo-yo Factory are super cool, you might try asking them.
Not only do I disagree with you, but the majority of top level players do too. You can bind on the other side of the string, but it's much less reliable, and is more likely to give you a string jam. If you've ever had a yo-yo smash you in the face because of a bad bind, you might want to change your method.
It's all about frame of reference. You wouldn't feel that way if you were just learning the Throwdown. It's easy to forget what things used to be like.
You can do it! Me being a lefty is actually less tricky as long as you don't focus on it. It's generally easier for righties to learn from lefties because it's like looking in a mirror.
@@MarkHayward I've heard that. You should check my other channel "The Definitive Yoyo" I go in about modern yoyos and offer my unqualified opinions. Nothing special. But I love it. ruclips.net/channel/UCl_qmXRBi_1wMgEe9olLn-Q
Mark Hayward this could be a fun documentary with the martial arts origin speculation. Just to investigate it as a marketing ploy by the Duncan company might yield some unknown things about it. ruclips.net/video/Hk4QCofiDaU/видео.html You got me thinking!!!
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it! But man... if you think two years is old... I don't even want to know what you think about the age of my beginner video 🤣🤣🤣

Mr Hayward, when you get the moment. Do you think that you can make a third video of the yoyo tricks.
Great video!!
What yoyo is that?I would love to buy it for my kid.i use to be pretty good with crappy one.that one looks like the best I seen
I talk about the yo-yos I"m using at the beginning. The silver one is a Duncan Strix.
Oh shit ok just going straight into Boingy Boing lol
You can actually do all of these tricks on a competetion if your fast enough
Im intrested in yoyo and i need help buying yoyo
Im kinda willing to buy duncan butterfly one is good one to perform lot of tricks?

Thanks for the video! I gotta lean me that second atom smasher. Also - isn’t Boingy Boingy also known as Bouncy Bouncy!? 🤓

Mr. Hayward it’s me again, where did you get the Spintastic Technic yoyo?
Please let me know as soon as you get the chance thank you.

Can you show your yo-yos?
You mean, all of them?!?
Fantastic instructional video Mr. Hayword! You are a true master of technique. You also have a superb teaching talent too.
Well thank you so much! I come from a family that's thick with teachers, so some of it must've rubbed off. Please share the video with your friends :)

Nice, Mark! Hope you and Lenore are well!
**seekrit person from the burnie's rock shop wayback days**
Whoa! Give me a hint!
How do I turn my responsive dv888 into an unresponsive. I'm guessing a longer axle isn't the way to do it
I'm not sure on that specific yo-yo, but I'd bet a different bearing would do it. The folks at Yo-yo Factory are super cool, you might try asking them.
I have a bad bearing yoyo thats why I cant do tricks like this
Binding backwards i would not teach thats a rong technic sorry but you failed

1 sub for u keep up master👍🏻
Mark, thank you so much for these - and for keeping yoyoing about the play rather than products !!
Exactly! I love a new yo-yo as much as the next guy, but the tricks are the most important part 😊. The yo-yo is just the tool to help you get there.
@1:47 Mind blown alreadyyy
By the way would you recommend the Magic Yoyo N12?
I haven't used it, but it seems well reviewed. It's certainly a good price!
best video ever
These are not intermediate at all. It is beginner level

Are you still a yoyo world champion?
Once a champion, always a champion. But no, I am not the current champion, and in fact it's been a looong time. I won in 1995.
This is great
Thanks Floyd! It was great to have you be a part of the premiere. Welcome back to the fun world of yo-yoing!

Wow old video but good quality not gonna lie and you just teach me a lot in this one video super helpful thanks Mark.
Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it!
But man... if you think two years is old... I don't even want to know what you think about the age of my beginner video 🤣🤣🤣
I sadly only have a non responsive yoyo
They're not sad, that's awesome! You have a yo-yo! Also, most of the tricks in this video use an unresponsive yo-yo
This ain't even a challenge! Do an advanced video!
Haha! Ok. Will do! It's going to be a while though.
Your an amazing yoyo player
Thanks!
Nice video. I also like your voice
Thanks a lot 😊
My finger hurts from using the yoyo so much
Excellent! Keep up the good work!
You can put a bandaid, or tape on your finger, and put the string on top of it to get a little more yo-yo time in.
@@MarkHayward ok thx

Nice demonstration
Love from India brooooo
Aaayyy. A fellow lefty thrower. Lets go!
Whoop WHOOP!
Can you bind with a *responsive* yoyo?
You can, but there is no benefit. Responsive yo-yos wind up on their own
Well, I knew that it would be pointless, but I just thought it might be a cool idea.
@@victoryguard It's always worth trying all the ideas! You never know when you might come up with something cool, so go for it!
Is the buttery xt a good yoyo for these tricks?
Yeah, that should work great! It's an entry level yo-yo, so you might want to upgrade at some point, but it will serve you well for now 🙂
@@MarkHayward Thanks, and what strings do you use, I didn't see any in your shop
@@nattychamp1643 I use standard 8 strand cotton. A lot of people love polyester, either 6 or 8 strand. Try a few out and see what you like.
