I've been working at this trick for a few days now (very new yo-yo player) I finally got one attempt to return to my hand! I've been watching this vid over and over for reference!! After lubing my yo-yo, it seemed to get easier. Thanks Update. It seems that creating the bind has been the biggest struggle for me with this one. Not sure why, but I’m really fascinated with this one. Now, working on doing it with the opposite spin!
A bit late to this but a new string could help with getting it to bind if the string has too much wear I find binds slip more then I like with normal sized string that is.
I've always looked for yoyos that have a dimple for fingerspins, but I tried one on my superstar, which has a bowl design, and it was awesome. in my opinion, get a yoyo like a skyva or the Atlas that has a dimple just to learn on, and get a bowl shaped throw after you get really good at them.

Thank you for this tutorial. I'm still not very good at yoyo but finger spin, eli hops and boingy boing tricks always amazed me. After 30 minutes of failed finger spin attempts, one finally landed perfectly and the feeling was incredible
I have the summer solstice and its good with finger spins I've been practicing for a week or so, and I get 5 seconds the most is most likely 8 seconds I realized the reason why my yoyo was coming back on itself is it had 2 loops making it more responsive. Great video. ( Can you put more first-person camera angles I think people learn the best from that angle.)
You may still be able to do a basic fingerspin, but your finger will always orbit around the outside of the cup, so it will not last a super long time.

+xXUNF0RG1V3NXx That is a trick that Takeshi does in his 1a routines, I doubt it has a name. We may teach it in the future, but it is pretty straight forward so you may be able to learn it just from watching this video.
+yotricks i did kind of rewatch it a couple times, i think your right i might just go off this. No need for a tutorial. Just really get exited when you guys make a tutorial, they are always so easy to follow, easiliy the best on yt.
Jonahqwerty Gaming if your sage is still responsive it will be impossible because this trick creates slack in the string and the yoyo will come back, if you modded it to be unresponsive it will just be difficult, but still possible, but most plastics are more difficult to grind with than metals anyway (besides the skyva)
It is kind of in-between. If you land it in the center - which is pretty difficult at first - it works pretty good. However, if you land it anywhere but in the center it is not good at all.
Finally got finger spins with the yoyofactory "Damage" yoyo. Tricky with the raised detail in the middle but once you lock in the right place it becomes easier!

Would this work with the current civility yo-yo I bought it recently and I love it I got it in blue but every time I try my finger doesn’t land towards the middle which I’m not to worried about considering there’s a finger spin dimple and a ring and then another ring, but my finger always seems to hit the outer ring that comes back inwards a little bit and I don’t understand why I’ve also tried with my cheap plastic yoyo that I used to learn the basics

wow this is why i think you are for sure the best yoyo teacher out there lol i had an idea on these concepts but when you put them into an example (like how you pointed out you dont tense your finger, paul kerbel said that himself in his own vid but you actually pointed out WHY) that makes sense! so ive been stuck for weeks on learning "Jakub Dekan tutorial - Rejection to Green Triangle yoyo trick" and i cant seem to get it, and the video doesnt explain anything, you should keep this in your mind next time your making tutorials! either that or some more rejection or GT tutorials
Yeah, I've been bending knees down and back slightly back. When you pop the yoyo up do you generally try to angle it to the left so you don't have turn as much or do you just pop it straight up?
I am using the shutter yoyo and I don't have a very powerful throw, so should I get the horizon yoyo instead of having the rim of the cup in the shutter yoyo slow me down?
If you already know that you have a problem it is usually better to solve the problem first before getting a new yoyo, so I suggest you work on getting a more powerful throw. That being said, when you catch the Shutter you need to catch it in the very center to do finger spins, instead of on the outside rim. That will help your finger spins last much longer.

Hubstack yoyos can spin horizontally like this, but it is nearly impossible to catch them out of the air like I show in this video. They are also tricky to balance on one finger which makes binding difficult as well.
We never use (or try to never use) right and left in our descriptions so that everything we say applies exactly the same to right and left handed players. If what we are describing is not working for you, then you are doing something else wrong.
Yes, that makes sense from a teaching standpoint... I can fingerspin the yoyo no matter which direction it's going... I have yet to bind from the finger. So I decided to watch this tut, but as a Lefty, if I throw from my right shoulder across my body the rotation of the yoyo is not conducive to a reverse spin bind. When I throw from my left shoulder then it is conducive to a reverse spin bind. Help! lol

Yes. I'm familiar with the back spin bind. I also watched this video just to be sure. (You refer to it as the "backspin mount." I've called it for decades the backspin bind, as the rotation of the yoyo is spinning backwards to the mount itself. Kinda like what Mark McBride talks about in his book. So, from my right shoulder (across my body) the rotation of the yoyo once horizontal will be counter-clockwise. If thrown from my left shoulder, the rotation of the yoyo once horizontal is clockwise. I do want a backspin bind... right?
I just realized that I'm using "Across my body" the opposite as you are. I totally meant that my arm starts across my body (left hand right shoulder) and that I should be throwing according to your definition of "across my body" (left hand left shoulder) to achieve the backspin bind, IF that's what I'm wanting to achieve.
Would you say that the Horizon is better for learning the how to balance on your finger because of no dimple, while the Cypher (similar cup to Canon) is better for learning the laceration bind due to the higher walls?
Actually the Horizon makes the laceration bind easier than most yoyos because the gap is a little tighter. I am not sure if that is true compared to the Cypher, but that makes a bigger difference in my experience compared to higher side-walls.
my only yoyo that might work for finger spins is kind of like the transcend but instead of flat it has a slight convex bump that covers about half of the cup, would it work for finger spins?

I have a Magic yoyo M002. Is it good for finger spins. its got a dimple in the middle but im not sure if its the best yoyo for finger spins
The dimple is on a raised platform, making it almost impossible to get your finger in the center.

Not as well as the horizon. If you want the very best fingerspin, you're going to want a yoyo that doesn't have engravings in the cup.
But still, if you already have a shutter, give it a go. I learned my first fingerspins on an old school shutter.
The beadblasted shutters are pretty good for finger spins.

When you catch the yoyo you should move your hand away from the yoyo to cushion the blow.

Not true. Nothing is different about this trick for left handed players. That is why we avoid using right or left handed in our descriptions.
