it's like watching only the informational and background episodes of an old something awful let's play thread where instead of seeing any gameplay i have someone read me the manual and nerd out over the little details on the box art - genuinely a form of content i will never get tired of, thanks for being delightfully nerdy about video games and sharing that with us
Glad you’ve read the S.D. Perry novelization! I loved that whole series as a kid and read it multiple times. I remember hoping like hell that she would write one based on RE4 when it came out.
I still remember like it was yesterday when I first saw this classic at my Brother's house, and that creepy zombie turning around😂😮😲 RE1 classic always will be great!!
I think it's a testament to the influence of 2 and 3 that 1 is almost criminally overlooked. Resi 1 was a HUGE turning point in survival horror. The setting, the characters, the action, the backgrounds, the diary entries - it all told a story. It single-handedly built a world that we continue to adore and grow with to this day. Even as a stand alone entry, it's perfect. Everything gets closed off, the mansion blows up and you ride off into the sunset. Jill Valentine will always be one of my heros and while I believe nemesis is her finest hour, the Spencer mansion will always be the place that made her such a gaming icon.
The Spencer mansion felt like a real place like few other places in gaming. I didn't have a psx but I had an RE guide and I just imagined everything through the descriptions of the rooms. I doubt so much planning and detail go into creating gameworlds anymore....even in RE games.
A simply incredible breakdown of one of the most influential titles and a true joy to think about the series! Can't wait, keep up the fantastic work and have a lovely day :D
New Paraspective series, let's go!!! I'm excited that it's on Resident Evil, too! I mostly got into the series with RE 4, but I've really been wanting to dive in and experience the PSone titles firsthand
So glad you started doing this series, I love this franchise and man it's great to see your take on it by reading manuals and giving us a view onto what new players experienced when they first got this jewel back in 1998. To say this game was genre-defining is an undersell as to me this game and Clocktower basically mothered the entirety of the survival horror genre. It's obviously janky in some aspects nowadays and the live action scenes and voice-acting leave something to be desired but it still adds charm to it like seeing the first pieces of art your friend makes having clear anatomical and perspective issues and then knowing just how much better he would get. In terms of original vs remake I don't think it even needs to be discussed as the remake completely washes the original to the point the REmake was seen as the gold standard for a remake back in the day. Still have some gripes with it but I think I'll share those on the REmake retrospective however it's fun to think that some aspects added into the remake like the sidestory with the Trevor family was already considered for this game as you can see on some side-content. Finally, I wanna mention that surprisingly and for the longest time the live actions actors who gave their voices for these characters were not know but thanks to the efforts of online communities now several of them have been found with only the Jill actress still missing and you can see videos about discovering their identities on Whang's channel for an interesting tangent.
@@Paraspectre sure why not?^^ at least the main series would be great :-) I loved Code Veronica on the dreamcast when I was a child. Also dino crysis was nice
Oh man, the start of my love for RE. I prefer the remake, but I just love the original for the intro and that voice acting. I like playing as Jill, both because Jill tends to have the better gameplay, but also because Barry is just the best. "You were almost a Jill sandwich!"
Wait wait wait... they rebooted the Film series AND they made a TV show? Well shit, stuff just catapulted straight to the top of my backlog, either to laugh at it or to love it, time will tell.
Remember you announcing you'd be making this series but only just got it in my feed. Been looking forward to it! :) Been watching your Pokemon stuff from the beginning, but it's good to see you branch out and do some other stuff too.
Oh man! 90's video game voice acting. It has the same budget that any school board music/arts program has 🤣 MM8 and MMX4 have notoriously bad VA as well 👌🤣
@@Paraspectre oh man! SH is a game I just couldn't ever play on my own haha it freaked me out too badly lol especially when your visibility starts lowering and the radio is almost always crackling haha
Finished the video this AM but didn't have a chance to follow-up until now. Anyway. Really enjoyed the video: the quality of your commentary and editing makes it a smooth watch. Which is rad, and appears (based on comments) to be a common experience with your other viewers. This happens with 007 content, now with RE content (I never played the games, so it's extra fun), but even with your TCG videos (which are intrinsically a bit less interesting to me). My takeaway is that your natural storytelling ability is doing the heavy lifting, and that it'll come out regardless of the subject. I hope this new series goes well, and that your (obvious) effort brings you satisfation!
Wow, I really appreciate that, thank you. I think it’ll take some time for this series to reach the right audience since it’s pretty far from Pokémon. But yeah, I’m gonna keep it going regardless 😊
1:35 It's always worse. I don't know why that is, but it's always worse. 6:22 Hey, I finally learned the name of the guy who gets his face eaten by dogs in the opening cinematic!
bro this is gonna be my most hype youtube series, might be time to turn the Join feature on so I can give you some V-Bucks, (also I grew up a huge RE fan, and those S.D perry books were goated as hell)
Now there’s a reference. I’ve played through that game once (and actually beat it), but no, I can’t say I liked it enough to use the Spectre name from that ☺️
It’s funny when me and my friend first played this one And as you get into the mansion I thought this was stupid and tried to walk out of the mansion and it scared the shit out of me😊
To fix the channel name, just make it T-00 Paraspectre 12:52 Residence of Evil interview with Barry, Chris and Wesker actors leaves the feeling that the Jill Actor was kind of an annoying person.
I always loved how sarcastic the voiceovers sound
Especially against living things

“…it spawned a series on Netflix.” For worse…definitely worse…the series is indisputably worse for being associated with that Netflix show
Oh sweet my favourite Pokemon TCG RUclipsr reviewing my favourite Horror Series!
Heyy, it’s nice to hear that this shift in content really does work for some people ☺️
I always preferred Jill, she's just such a master of unlocking.
What Barry was really doing was quoting the instruction manual. And I thank him for that.
Glad you’ve read the S.D. Perry novelization! I loved that whole series as a kid and read it multiple times. I remember hoping like hell that she would write one based on RE4 when it came out.
The Director's Cut Basement Theme is the theme song for my D&D game I run that is played when ever we're preparing to go. It's the best.
That’s amazing. I hope it got everyone ok the spirit
😂
This was an unexpected video to see on my birthday! Thanks for the content PS!!
Nice! Hope your birthday was excellent
@@Paraspectre thank you it was! :)

New Paraspectre video! Can’t wait!
I quite enjoyed making this one 😊

I really appreciate that, thank you 😊
Always down for an RE series. Can't wait!
I really had fun making this video
A new beginning, Paraspectre has returned.
It never left...
It’s been a while ☺️
6:20 man does anyone else have nostalgia for reading game manuals? Getting a little prelude and breakdown of characters!
Two weeks no internet, finally back and there are 3 paraspectre videos. Awesome can't wait to them. Thank you
Ohh glad to have you back. Here’s an hour’s worth of content haha
BOO YA! I've been waiting for this! 😀🤙
Why thanks!
A fun fact for a certain level of nerdy fan: until RE5, the number in the series was spoken by the title screen voice in even numbered entries only.
The dualshock version has the best mansion/hunter themes change my mind.
New Paraspective series, let's go!!!
I'm excited that it's on Resident Evil, too! I mostly got into the series with RE 4, but I've really been wanting to dive in and experience the PSone titles firsthand
I also love RE4, but the classic series is certainly charming

Resident Evil, James Bond, and Pokemon?? Are you like, my twin or something? instant sub, excited to watch this retrospective

Wait wait wait... they rebooted the Film series AND they made a TV show?
Well shit, stuff just catapulted straight to the top of my backlog, either to laugh at it or to love it, time will tell.
I’ll be honest, I couldn’t do the tv show. It didn’t catch my interest much at all.
lets go man branching out. lit
I’m really enjoying making these
Remember you announcing you'd be making this series but only just got it in my feed. Been looking forward to it! :) Been watching your Pokemon stuff from the beginning, but it's good to see you branch out and do some other stuff too.
Well thank you! I know a Pokémon channel shifting to Resident Evil is a risk, but it’s what I want to do
Hell yeah.

Agreed. Apparently that’s more The Last of Us though
Always enjoy the start cinematic, watched this on the Ds. B grade horror film, loved it
It’s pretty amazing
1:35 It's always worse. I don't know why that is, but it's always worse.
6:22 Hey, I finally learned the name of the guy who gets his face eaten by dogs in the opening cinematic!
The English version of Icy Gaze (the opening theme) has never been released as far as I know
Those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride
I can’t believe that’s in the game
I literally just bought RE0 to RE6 on the lunar sale, my Pokemon TCG guy knows what I need!
Heck yeah. From Pokémon TCG to RE6. We know how to add some spice to life

Awesome, thanks for getting hyped. And I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the Perry books.
Really thought he was about to say his name is a combo of "Parasect" from and "Spectre" from Operation Racoon City
Now there’s a reference. I’ve played through that game once (and actually beat it), but no, I can’t say I liked it enough to use the Spectre name from that ☺️

1:24 To be fair, Zelda is a Nintendo console exclusive but nonetheless RE has some impressive sales numbers.
That is a very good point. If Zelda were across all systems… it would be weird, but yeah it would probably be a top seller.
Is this a new channel for Ink Ribbon??
I don’t know what that is 😅
Sorry for the late support, love your retrospectives but cant always watch them right away
I appreciate the view whenever you can though

Wtf this isn't tgc? It's okie, I'm addicted to ur voice now ha ha
the doggo's cut .. i prefer the original tbh or the remake
To fix the channel name, just make it T-00 Paraspectre

Sheesh I forgot how terrible the actors were in these cutscenes 😂😂😂
Why not discuss the story???
10th comment swag
I love this channel, so can i please ask you to be gentle with survivor please.
Haha I mean… I have some positives to say about it
