      I don't think they've aced it, the interior is very interesting and the craftsmanship seems to be amazing in there, but styling wise I think it looks a bit slab fronted, it reminds me of an early Mitsubishi 3000, so not exactly hideous but not an improvement over the original 928 also the front indicator and parking light cluster seem to be far larger than it needs to be. From behind the front bumper all the way back I think it looks pretty good, but the rear reminds me of an Aston Martin, again not a hideous car by any means but not a Porsche.
      Its nice and if I saw one at a show or something I'd no doubt be fawning over the details, do I find myself wanting one the way I would an Alfaholics 290 or similar, no I don't and thats what these cars should do, they should make you ache to have one, perhaps they can customise whatever you want like Singer would and then I might want it enough. Its 95% of the car I'd want but in this game, that last 5% matters.

They were a solid feeling car that made you want to cruise at 125mph all day long. The engine was as smooth as a glass pool table. They were muted, but the exhaust note was lovely. They're unloved today, and are horrifyingly expensive to repair, but I'm with Jezza, they 928 is okay by me. That from the owner of an '85 3.2 Carrera that I've had for 27 years.

    • @DuvJones
      @DuvJones 4 месяца назад +3

      The 911 is the reason.
      The 928 intended plan was to replace the 911 in it's entirety. As sacrilegious as it sounds to the car enthusiast, Porsche did that before with the 356 (replaced by the 911 and 914) and times were getting harder with the oil crisis. The thing is the 80's happened and the 911 was extended "indefinitely" which became a problem once this and the 924 started to sag in sales. They were met with an axe in the 90's.
      From all that know about it, the 928 isn't a bad car by any stretch. It's just the black mark on the Porsche line for attempting to be rid of the 911.

      It will and it has already started. The 928 was a marvel of a car way ahead its time and at the time lightyears ahead of the 911 that had its roots in the beetle. It was however so completely different to the 911 and that just didnt work with the old porsche crowd.
      The modern 911 is very much the 928 of today. A comfortable GT. I sure wish Porsche would try to reinvent themselves again like with the 928. I think the 911 as a concept is finished. They need something new and refreshing. Now they have a bunch of models that look kinda like a 911.

    Finally, someone giving the 928 the proper engineering it needed.
    I've always been a fan of the platform that made up the 928 but it needed someone in the design team to make it a great car.
    They were on the right track with the 928S4, a very close friend of my father, Marvin received one as a Christmas gift from his wife and he had bought her a race horse. You could say they had a little bit of money.
    The S4 was a great car but, then production ended before Porsche would take that to the next level which is what we have here in this restomod. They did what should have been done from the factory or maybe RUF or Singer. But, too many Porsche Club purists and just enthusiasts never liked the 928 so there was no aftermarket need or desire to modify the 928. There just wasn't anyone who wanted to do it properly and spend the money and time. That is proven by this build. Everything had to be made from homemade design because there are no aftermarket upgrade parts for 928 cars.
    I like what the car looks like and am only disappointed that it wasn't driven.

    I own an 86.5 928S which I love. Nardone nailed it with the adjustment of the shortened front and extended rear. I always thought the original looked a little out of balance despite knowing it has near perfect front back weight ratio. This restomod is absolutely fantastic. I wish Porsche would bring back the 928 with something very similar to this.

    It's nice. Nothing wrong with the restomod stuff. But an original 928 GTS is still way nicer looking. The rear lights and the iconic red Porsche rear reflector are perfect on the original GTS. The design on that is so modern that it could come out of production line today (save the pop-up headlights). So why try to improve perfection?

    • @pederfallbom
      @pederfallbom 4 месяца назад +2

      The original sure is a masterpiece!
      However since it is no longer available I love the this is being done. So tired of all millions of versions of the 911.
      Would love a really serious restomod on the 951 aka 944 Turbo. That is a very sweet car that porsche held back so not to beat the 911.

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112 4 месяца назад +1

      @@pederfallbom Yeah I have nothing against the restomod itself. I just don't like those new rear lights. They kill the character of the original. The way Singer did the 930 and Gunther Werks did the 993 Turbo are more true to the originals.
      The best part of the original GTS is the fat rear and dominant red color (from the HUGE, wide taillights and that reflector). Mercedes even copied that rear to its AMG GT. Why change that so radically?

    The 928 and 944 have aged amazingly well. They're both absolutely beautiful, and save for the pop-up headlights, both look like they could be a brand new car design even in 2025.
