I have some info: THE JEB IS NOT REAL!!! Let me explain why. - There is a fabric mod called the 'carpet' mod. It allows you to do a number of things, including spawning fake players. You can use the command /player Jeb_ spawn to spawn Jeb, and he would join (as a fake player). Apart from the server knowing he is fake, there is NO WAY to tell that this is a fake player. You can use such a bot to let you afk at a farm, and he can perform actions like dropping items, walking, attacking, eating, etc - The carpet mod is commonly used to spawn fake players to afk at your farm, and Jeb is a name commonly used as a bot. It was even one of the default options at one point - Fake player DISCONNECT when they die, that is the easyiest way to kill them. This is they only this could happen, because Jeb is not a player that would use hacked clients or mods to automatically disconnect when you die. - There is no way to show if the server was running mods. He just made that up. With plugins there is the /plugin command, but there is no /mods command or anything. The carpet mod isn't required to be installed on the client, so there is no way to see if they are using mods. And since the server was a fabric server, it is very likely that they are using the carpet mod. - They don't have any plugins, they do have mods! Those are two entierly different things! You can see it on the video they posted, 3:44, the server sais fabric. That is a mod loader, used to load the carpet mod. He lied about the server using no mods! - In the video of gnembnom showing the carpet mod he litterally spawns Jeb as a bot to show that you can spawn anyone. - Jeb DOESN'T EVEN PLAY JAVA EDITION for his survival world, as you can see on a tweet of him - Jeb is probably not a player that leaves his server without a whitelist. EDIT: NEW INFO! It was a fabric server! They didn't use a mod to change the server brand packet! You can see it right on the video on the f3 screen! At 3:44 Not going to post the link, not sure if that is allowed.
A security update would be a good thing, too many people suffered from this hack for things not to change. Just imagine how many people quit the game they enjoy most because of this. By default whitelist with documentation on how to whitelist people would be a good start imo
@@nicolasdoucet Agree, my cousins are playing on their own server without whitelist because they're using a hosting website and whitelist seems to be a bit of a hassle which I understand, if it was self hosted it would've been easier as I would've done it for them I feel like a friendlist would work really well in Minecraft, also when someone tries to log in, the server admin should just be prompted with "player is trying to reach the server, allow entry?" and you would type a command to either deny or allow that player, or just forever deny him, which just puts him on the ban list To add to the friendlist thing, basically like on steam, join friend's servers, or besides giving someone OP to a server, be able to give a player admin status, which means he can't be deopped by anyone but himself or whoever is hosting the server and can approve or deny player entry/access
Logging out upon death is the exact behavior of a player running carpet mod with dummy players. Idk if the fifth Column checked for fabric server but they probably didn’t. Good chance they just decimated some random kid’s server for using a mod.
also jeb and his team have worlds that are +10 years old, and somehow the nether around him is from 1.16. i also doubt jeb would ever make a wither-skeleton farm or any farm in general.
Server that the griefers were on was using *fabric* and the fact that jeb_ disconnected after being killed hints that the server was using carpetmod. It allows you to create "bots" that you can use for afk (and yes, bots show capes and are displayed in the tablist).
even if they said that it's vanilla, it is clearly *seen* in their video that server is using fabric. Seems like they forgot to spoof server brand packet or attacked random person's bot :P
checked my minecraft backups after watching this video and lo and behold my script had bugged out and stopped backing up my server. thanks for the precaution check!
Assuming this is the real Jeb, I hope this serves as a bit of a wakeup call for the devs on how many servers aren't secure and perhaps they make a point to do something about that in the future. Either way, this is some crazy stuff.
Indeed, or the better route, they crack down hard on the community, this is the kinda shit that villain stories dream of! Seeing Mojang become a villain like Blizzard or Konami!~
@@nobodybroda3826 they're not gonna crack down on the community, they know damn well that's just gonna make people angry, their only real options are ignoring the problem or adding some default security and making sure players know how to keep their servers safe from here on out.

I do not. What I meant is that all this people are worth for is to show this flaws, I have little to no respect for people that go out of their way to ruin other's fun. It's just sad what some people do to annoy others
These griefers are the reason Mojang is enforcing the Microsoft Account Migration. It's not going to fix the core issue that Minecraft's Security is abysmal
Official Minecraft Twitter in about 2 days: "Sorry guys, the Wild Update, including the Warden, has been moved to 1.20. Instead, 1.19 is going to be the security update, and a few newcomers will be removed along with Herobrine this time around"
Sure it's a major score for the griefers, but do they not realize that by doing this to THE lead dev, that they just moved the exploit fix to the top of Mojang's list? Bad move for them (good for everyone else, though)
I'm pretty sure they knew this before starting Jeb project and even more sure they don't mind losing this exploit! They are probably looking next exploit, something bigger if it's possible!
And if Jeb finds out who they are, they could get into some serious trouble. Like banning and possibly getting the entirety of 2b2t shut down permanently (although the latter is pretty extreme.)
"The most high profile grief in the group's history" I'd reword it to be the most high profile grief in MINECRAFT history. I mean, it's jeb_! The main man himself!
Carpet mod has a "fake player" feature for singleplayer testing. When the player was killed, it would immediately disconnect. No user credentials needed. This could possibly have been faked.
Loved the video @FitMC! Can't wait for the next video man! Just read the Update on your comment below and glad that Jeb wasn't "Assassinated" In-Game. But seeing this months after all of the Moves for "Security Issues" (like connecting Windows Accounts to Java ones) explains a lot! Frankly, I don't think these moves will stop the Fifth Column Greifers completely, but they will likely Curtail their Activities, albeit only slightly. The Independent Republic of Cadria will be on the Watch for these guys, however, prior to watching these videos I might have brought up some God-Teir Armor and Tool setups like using Arrows of Harming with a Unbreaking 3, Infinity, Flame, Punch 2, Power 5 Bow to defend against other Players or Pillagers.
@@NecroTitan fabric mods are different from Forge mods. Sometimes you can join a fabric server in vanilla but you cannot use the mods because you don't have them installed.

3:28 - for all the complexities of trying to remember IPv6 addresses, it would be more secure (at least for the time being) as there are a few magnitudes more addresses than in IPv4 protocol. It would take longer to scan all addresses, and also btw as each device would be directly connected to the internet in this method, open ports on router method wouldn't work as an easy detection method. Of course, there are still ways to do it, but its gonna be different and take longer. And also proxies may help to unofficially "hide" servers. (As ISPs use them to cut down on used address space) - some of them at least.

Some people noticed that at 3:44 ( Original video, where Jeb_ is killed ) you can see in the top left the F3 screen, which clearly says it's a *fabric* (modded, not vanilla) server. Therefore the server was probably running Carpet Mod or a similar mod to be able to spawn *NPCs* (and yes, NPCs show the cape of the respective player).

If you put a server up on the internet either you want people to be able to join it or you put whitelisting on so that only allowed people can join it. No update needed other than maybe a PSA for people who host servers.
You managed to do something amazing. Make merch that is both a cool refrence/nod to anyone that knows about 2b2t, as well as making it vauge enough that it still just looks cool in general.
Yep. He said he won't be releasing any merch until he has a good enough design to look appealing even out of context of being a fan. And he did not disappoint. Those abstract renditions of bases and landscapes capture the beauty of a minecraft server in an entirely new light.
the way he took no knockback and disconnected makes it seem like it was somehow a modded/plugin NPC despite what the bot says. Apparently there are ways to disguise some servers as vanilla even if they’re not, at least depending on what they’re using. Maybe someone fooled them?
I'm gonna preface this with I'm dumb, but Minecraft feels like the multiplayer side needs an overhaul on how it fundamentally works, it feels like it's up through sheer force of will by the players with a foundation of stilts and sticky tape
I'm a server owner and completely agree. Only still doing it at this point out of love for the community and not wanting to see survival servers die. I've run servers for a lot of other games and even indie games like Don't Starve have better support.

I feel sorry for Jeb, but something positive will probably come out of this. Security loopholes are now very likely to be patched due to him having a personal experience with it.
Less of a security problem, more of just don’t play on shitty open servers. If you’re not on a whitelisted server the server should have ways to protect buildings or prevent massive griefing or outright ban people who use a lot of tnt, lava or fire blocks. There’s literally no reason to leave your server wide open. It’s like leaving your keys in the car 24/7
jen leaving could be because when he died he was afk at a farm, potentially with an auto clicker to kill mobs that tapped “main menu” rather than respawn
It's more likely that he lost connection, I've had the same issue mentioned in the video happen to me, and I have seen it happen to other people. Additionally, there is no AFK kick in vanilla. Alternatively, maybe Jeb uses a modding client like Fabric that doesn't require the server to be modded and he has a mod which caused him to disconnect. Just throwing out ideas.
I feel like they did him a favour by showing how insecure minecraft servers were and how they need to take this seriously. Plus, the griefers are actually pretty chill
Carpet mod can create players that you can control it could maybe be a forged server with the carpet mod installed. The biggest proof, is that when you kill a carpet mod bot, they disconnect.
@@RJ_Owlby That would actually be the best case scenario for them. They get all the notoriety of killing Jeb from the initial wave, without it actually being Jeb so he can make changes to the security.
“The Server is connected to Mojangs authentication server so you can’t fake a player name”. You can’t as a player. But if you control the server you can. For example using a plugin. And you can also disguise a spigot server as a vanilla one.
I've had complete strangers show up on a private server and grief everything. I understand griefing on public servers where it's allowed and sometimes even encouraged, but to just start barging into servers where you aren't invited and destroy everything is crossing a line. Luckily, I had a backup and later learned how to make a whitelist so the damage was all reversed, but still this just feels sociopathic.
@CatRyBou I literally have 3 alt accounts and they are all migrated to different E-Mails that I own, so alt accounts if anything are actually easier to get your hands on.
This reminded me of something. Back when Pokemon X and Y were released, people found out some interesting stuff about how the online battles worked. first, the information was not encrypted at all. Second, the moment you chose what you wree doing to do, it sent that information to the server. So people could use software to intercept that information, and see exactly what you had chosen to do that turn. They could then change their strategy to counter it. This resulted in battle spot being taken offline for weeks.

- Jeb DOESN'T EVEN PLAY JAVA EDITION for his survival world, as you can see on a tweet of him
- Jeb is probably not a player that leaves his server without a whitelist.
EDIT: NEW INFO! It was a fabric server! They didn't use a mod to change the server brand packet! You can see it right on the video on the f3 screen! At 3:44

@@nicolasdoucet Agree, my cousins are playing on their own server without whitelist because they're using a hosting website and whitelist seems to be a bit of a hassle which I understand, if it was self hosted it would've been easier as I would've done it for them
I feel like a friendlist would work really well in Minecraft, also when someone tries to log in, the server admin should just be prompted with "player is trying to reach the server, allow entry?" and you would type a command to either deny or allow that player, or just forever deny him, which just puts him on the ban list
To add to the friendlist thing, basically like on steam, join friend's servers, or besides giving someone OP to a server, be able to give a player admin status, which means he can't be deopped by anyone but himself or whoever is hosting the server and can approve or deny player entry/access
Or hopefully he just bans this whole group.

@CatRyBou I literally have 3 alt accounts and they are all migrated to different E-Mails that I own, so alt accounts if anything are actually easier to get your hands on.

Ip ban?
This reminded me of something. Back when Pokemon X and Y were released, people found out some interesting stuff about how the online battles worked. first, the information was not encrypted at all. Second, the moment you chose what you wree doing to do, it sent that information to the server. So people could use software to intercept that information, and see exactly what you had chosen to do that turn. They could then change their strategy to counter it. This resulted in battle spot being taken offline for weeks.
