"Doing it for fun"
To get joy purely from doing other people wrong and causing emotional/psychological (and in some cases financial) pain is quite LITERALLY the lowest in society next to serial killers. Most criminals do their crime for some personal gain, but these types just literally seek to cause harm. It's sadistic.
There's not much that I can add other then you are 1000% correct in every single way
It’s not that deep
@@weebmain1348is it though?
yeah minecraft griefers are the worst people after serial killers
@omaralqudah5812 Not Minecraft griefers, people who seek to cause some form of harm to others for no other reason than getting joy from their suffering, of which Minecraft griefers may be included.
I've built a dozen Minecraft servers for my family to play on, and the first one I stood up wasn't secured properly. We noticed that structures in some areas of the map were griefed. Some buildings were burned, and TNT had been used in other areas. I looked on the server and found UUIDs in the logs that didn't match family member accounts. Two people had been on the server, and one of them had connected multiple times across a two week period. We never actually encountered anyone while we were playing, though.
Fortunately, this was a vanilla server that I had built using a world download from another server and we didn't have many hours in on it. So I just hardened the server and restored the world to a pre-griefed state. There was no harm done to us.
My advice to everyone is be careful. These clowns can and will find your unsecured server and when they do they'll try their best to ruin your day.
It's 2022, if you have a Minecraft server with no security you are asking for this to happen

the definition of: "Hell is full, so we must go elsewhere"
I've been hosting a server for some friends for 4 years or so, and from day 1 we implemented 3 redundant and independent back-up systems, whitelist amd blacklist and anticheat plugins. Best decision we could've done. Thanks for informing, Fit.
What back up programs do you use. Getting ready to start a server
Any tips?
@@SlyNine i used the autobackup from bukkitgui
@@SlyNine I run a forge server, so I use forgeessentials to make automatic backups without any hassle; I also periodically run Region Fixer to make backups that ir can understand in case anything goes wrong in that front; Windows backup is also always on, making 1 or 2 backups a day (I'm a little limited since those backups must be done on an HDD). And the whole folder with the server data I backup manually every now and then on every known good storage media I own (about 10 copies). I could automate that last step, it's just I'm not in the need rn. All of this precautions for a server only 3 people play regularly? Yes. Specially since it's not only my work and progress, but that of my friends, and I wouldn't want to lose any fond memories of that server (and trust me, we have tons, we used to be more players years ago)
On that note always run your server "online", that is clients must be legit and checked against Mojang. And white and blacklisting is a must, although I understand it can be a big hassle if you plan on building a big community.
I also implemented a hosts file on the PC to block any attemps to connect to known malicious websites, just in case.

This could kill Minecraft.
pure evil, straight to hell
this is just trolling, they do this for their own amusement, not for having innocent players cry in despair

@@CuackTheDucks The exact point of trolling is to inflict inconvinience to others, despite the magnitude, for your own enjoyment.
I am worried
Annoying others for your own amusement is trolling.
Systematically going after every open server is basically grinding for bragging rights that nobody will care about in a year.
Most small servers I've been on all have fairly competent backup systems so I'm hoping a lot of those poor people could sort out what the griefers did
Lots of these griefers now use command blocks for it where they set the delay to be like a week (so it's a sleeper cell that auto griefs)
I was hoping this would include some tips on how to protect your home server. (Maybe a follow up video?)
Actually wouldn't it make for a great server plugin to have a Griefer-Time-Waster? Like blocks can be lit on fire and stay on fire for 5 minutes, but never actually burn? And TNT can't destroy blocks, but will fly toward the player that dropped them? Would be nice to have some sort of grief revenge trap (like the glitter bomb for package thieves).
Simply use a backup system. You don't need anti cheat or whitelists or anything else. Putting back a backup takes less than 5 minutes
Which you should be doing anyway, since the world can corrupt or you can make a big whoopsie yourself.
"No proper backup system" being a criteria for being a target makes me think that they're doing it for something else than just fun too. If it was just for fun, that wouldn't be there.
It gives them a better high knowing that what they’re griefing can’t be easily recovered
I think they enjoy knowing they have done permanent damage
The fun could come from the fact they know they're ruining people's stuff
They have a god complex duh
Not fun with a backup. Backup basically griefs your grieving.
This has gone way too far. They’re essentially destroying kids’ creative projects for kicks.

@@simplygreen5832 That doesn't mean the griefing is any less unjustified. Thieves also aren't less guilty when their victim forgot to lock the house.
This happened to a pretty small server between me and some friends which we all (but I especially) had sunk many many hours into over the course of about 6 months or so. It wasn't a 10 year old server or anything, but we had worked super hard on all of our builds, had a really nice community area, and I was building a massive quartz town hall building to support a judicial system for resolving player conflicts. In a matter of 10 minutes, I watched as two griefers used fly hacks and grief hacks (any block they stood near instantly blew up) to systematically destroy all of my work and all of the stuff my friends had made. The server host said he made frequent backups but it turns out he was lazy and his last backup was from months before so we had to start all over again. Unfortunately after that many players quit, and we were never able to recreate the community we had on that world. Griefing random servers is a seriously fucked up thing to do.
i dont know about anarchy servers being containment for grifers is the right way to put it. perhaps for some but i think its more of a breeding ground where people get a taste for it and once it runs out they still want to continue
They definitely crossed the line. It's interesting to see a completely legal and unpunishable action cause so much pain to others. I'm not on any servers that could be affected so from the outside it's like seeing a comic book villain.
Unauthorized access to computers is illegal. They didn't circumvent any login process so they could try to argue it in court, but something tells me these kids would stop their shit pretty fast once the cops get involved
@@danielgysi5729 if they're open servers that anyone can access it's hard to say that it's unauthorized. Good luck suing somebody for joining your Minecraft server. There's no way you could write legislation to punish what these players did without it causing considerable hassles for people that just want to play in peace.

I was actually watching Empires SMP from All of the Server Members Channels up until about a week or so before @Pixlriffs 17th episode, when it kinda got Shunned into a Corner by many other things like Mods, Themed videos, The 1.19 Update, @DanTDM's Modded Survival Series and Season 2 of Hardcore Survival, as well as @CaptainSparklez's RLCraft Hardcore Survival, 1.19 All Advancements Series and Ragnamod 6 with @PeteZaHut and @X33N. I hope SMP Earth wasn't getting picked up by these guy, especially with the Later, Great Blood God himself passing from Stage 4 Sarcoma.
Damn, they are some sad individuals. I probably would feel so miserable if the best thing I could do with my time was to grief random servers for the sake of it. They are on the process of unlocking virginity 2.

Honestly, the fact that they're going after servers run by families and churches has the potential to lead to something horribly upsetting. Imagine if, as an example, someone's child passed away due to something like a form of cancer or an accident. A minecraft server they opened for their family to spend time with their child doing something the child enjoyed then becomes something precious: A little digital scrapbook of memories and a digital footprint of something they and their child did together. Something intangible but real-feeling they can look at and say "My child and I did this together." A one-of-a-kind thing.
Griefing sentimental things like that has never sat right with me. That's just a line you don't go near, and this is inevitably going to happen.
This kind of thing needs more recognition. Sadly it almost never happens because people are sadistic assholes
@@zergrush2227 Especially while we're in the middle of a literal plague, so the odds of a server having a sort of memorial function is much higher.

You're committing a big error there, your comment will either be used as a justification to destroy servers that aren't sentimental or used to target sentimental servers.
And if you ask for people to track trolls and [BANNED WORD] you won't be in the top comment and trolls will mock you to inspire fear of getting mocked amongst the normal humans and so they won't seek for the truth.

This definently went too far. Imagine the people who have had a server with their friend for years, with tons of progress and memories, all gone in just a matter of hours. Not a lot of people who have a server with their friends do backups manually, so if there is no automatic one, there might not be a way to ever bring back what has been destroyed.

1. im not sure what you mean by "license"
you certainly need a minecraft account to play, but hosting a server is completly free and does not require any account
whitelisting is also uuid/username based, the server will verify any connecting account by asking mojang if the connecting client is authorized
