I’ll be honest, the sent to hell by any death that’s not against demons sounds too strange for my taste. why not have the knights be essentially caught in limbo and cursed to keep having their souls put into a new body until they achieve a holy death, sounds WAY more unpleasant they “soul gets sent to hell”

@@Psychoangel-d23plus that both logically and historically fits better since one of the ways the Pope convinced so many different nations Knights to match to war for the Holy Land was the promise that fighting on Crusade was a way to gain forgiveness for any and all past sins and guarantee one's passage to Heaven.
The only part about it i don't like is that you can be damned for dying in ways that are in no way your fault which Arch points out.

Everyone has already pointed out why the oath is heretical and stupid (personally I think a guranteed trip to heaven for dying in battle and either being bound forever to their armour/corpse/reincarnation if they fail to die fighting or sent to redeem themselves in purgatory would be much better), but can we talk about how much of a huge logistical nightmare their inability to breath normal air is? These are guys often sent in to grueling campaigns into hell itself, plunging into the thick of battle with no gurantee they'll be able to easily pull out or receive support, yet they have to lug around tanks of holy gas to breath all the time? That not only presents and enormous weakspot to aim for, it limits them to a matter of hours (days at best if we're being generous with their magical tech) of effective operational time before they _must_ be resupplied or retreat? That seems like an incredibly unwise decision, the kind of design flaw that kills their effectiveness.

If the souls of these crusader knights are guaranteed to go to hell unless they die in combat, isn't that feeding the armies of the enemy?
From what I manage to read up, Hell seams to only be able to recruit those that are alive and they are pretty picky about their recruit so they tend to be more discipline, lots of potential hell recruit die on the trip to get recruited and those that die are left trapped half dead/half alive on the road to hell. The setting have ghost soldier but they are trap in between Heaven and hell so they stay on earth attacking both the church and the heretic. So crusader knight that get sent to hell would be seen to weak , unworth, and not even evil enough for their army.
“Not understanding, and overplayed” is how I would describe this setting and lore. They don’t know history but try to use history. They don’t know or understand any form of Christianity but try to use it. It makes it all feel synthetic and empty.

There talk of making fan parallel community that basically don't support the creator. So their talk of making fan rules, supplement, and model.
Interestingly I saw a Tweet from someone complaining about the Chud Hammer invading the community, then proceeded to shill their Trench Crusade 3D model they were selling and promoting their commission.
So the creator now having the fans he want and the fan he hate now going to make alternatives model for his game, probably going to eat at his next crowd funding.
I dunno. Trench Crusade sounded better when it was just a bunch of Mike Franchina's concept art without a greater context. There's just alot about the world building that feels off, mostly because it's obviously being written by people who neither understand Christianity, or have an anime tier understanding of it, or History.
Not to mention the whole twitter debacle. Maybe this just isn't a cultural frontline worth fighting on.

On the one hand, I love the aesthetics of Trench Crusade, but on the other hand, the portrayal of Christianity (even a deformed version) breaks with the most basic theological concepts of said religion. For me, what is seen in the game is not radicalized Christianity, but something born from the positivist and atheistic imagination of what religion is.
For example: you don't need a doctorate in theology to know that from a Christian point of view you cannot use human sacrifices to fight demons, since such actions generally embolden them...or have been inspired by demons in the first place. Even arguing that the behavior of the Christians in Trench Crusade is due to serious errors or misinterpretation fails to explain the internal logic of the universe, since if so they would not have God or the saints on their side. Furthermore, interpreting faith or miracles as fuel or something similar to the energies of the material world is a mistake, and something that makes the setting too generic.
In this sense, I think that to do this it would have been more worthwhile to invent an original fantasy world inspired by real-world religious aesthetics, than a uchronia where the starting point is wrong.
Hard to not describe something accurately without being a part of it, just like most lore of a certain model company

The art is amazing and looks grimdark in a time whem the 40k fans are bailing out, but there is a discord as with most things these days and in that discord is a bunch of leftist loonies that hate normal people. This causes tension and many are kicked out of the discord and on the devs supports the leftist loonies.
That oath is like insisting the army fight in melee during a zombie outbreak.
This entire thing sounds like grimdark for the sake of grimdark, masochism for the sake of it. I know that humanity is facing a complete and utter annihilation from the hands of demons, but if the "holy" methods bring just as much suffering as the demons themselves, if you are suffering as much on either side, then what is the difference? If the holy men torture you and will go to hell anyway if you make just one tiny mistake, then why even try?
So frankly, i'm not so sure it was God that came to Earth to help humanity. It sounds more like the Templars opened the Gates to Hell, and now humanity is the plaything of Satan, who pretends to be God, and brings them false hope just to make them suffer more. It's like the entire setting is set on some ungodly chaos planet in the depths of the Warp, and the Chaos Gods are pretending to be God and Angels on humanity's side.
But then, if this setting is indeed as leftie as the recent drama makes it look like, then grimdark for the sake of grimdark makes more sense. It's pure materialistic nihilism, reveling in its own suffering. God is Dead, and there is no hope, so let's rub our wounds with salt just to make it hurt more.

Thought is seam that the lore say that Hell actually pretty picky and strict with their troop recruit so they may not recruit anyone that get sent to hell.

It's not chaos, souls aren't consumed by demons or used to make more, they are tortured there forever.

To be honest i dont understand why is there so much fuss about Trench Crusade. It seems as a third rate game with a sloppy written lore, full of contradictions. 800 years of holy war was ultimately glassed over. Tech level is wildly inconsistent and only explanation on how humanity survived so long lies in inner struggle of the hells forces. This is not grimdark. Its grimstupid.

@@Underworlddream This is a bit of a wishful thinking. Community cannot make coherent lore. SCP tried it already and they failed miserably. Community can be a custodian of the setting, but not a creator.
@@TheDEDBANZAI SCP was never meant to be an interwoven and coherent setting with lore. It was always a fan fiction collection. It also was created by accident, the original creator just did it once and it took off IIRC.

I have to ultimately ask if they double check this lore? The circumstances they have described make little sense and the world is incredibly shallow. We're told the Levant is Hellscape now, but, the Iron Sultanate is still around in the area. We're told Constantinople has fallen, yet, the Sultanate of Rum still exists. For some reason Trafalgar is mentioned to no meaningful effect and we have Primarch-esque superhumans with THE Jesus Christ's flesh and blood in them. The setting fundamentally weakens itself with excessive crosses and Christian imagery while devaluing its effectiveness entirely and I ultimately have to ask...
What does it even try to do differently to Warhammer when it seems set on setting itself up as an alternative to it? The lore is damn shallow, almost gimmicky.
I always thought a "Christian Mythology" wargame or strategy video game would be a cool idea, where you have modern-(ish) human forces fighting amongst angels and demons trying to claim the Earth.
My idea was for one to take place during the Rapture, and feature four factions: The Angels led by Michael, the Demons led by Satan, a faction of human survivors fighting for their lives, and a faction of machines led by a rampant AI trying to carve out it's own future during the end of the world.
Theres a mod for Dwarf Fortress which is a bit similair, Haemothearchy

I'll be honest, this Lore sounds honestly meh, very cliché grimdark, nothing really screams out to me as 'amazing'. Just seems like cliché hell invasion, Christianity poorly represented, and no logical sense how humanity survived so long before the ww1 tech level.
I have to say, I'm perplexed. On one hand, the company is entirely ideologically captured. On the other, this concept on its own is a sign that they posess genuine imagination and creative skill of some kind. Maybe this will be a buy on sale instead of a never buy. Because frankly, they seem to have the potential to do an actual good job here.

So that's one change in Trench Crusade's history compared to ours (Before hell opened up.) The Crusaders didn't slaughter everyone in the city of Jerusalem they killed a lot yes but not everyone. The majority of the city survived. As the commanders got their troops back under control.
It's also probably helpful to note that this was a common thing that happened after sieges across the world well into the late early modern era

I remember there was even a Jewish writer in the city during the siege who simply left the city by walking out of the gates and to safety on the opposite side of the crusader army. Another big part of the history is that the Muslim leader had kicked out all the Christians who went and bolstered the numbers of the Crusader army and frankly i think they took out a lot of their frustrations on the Muslims in the city.

Which is not great but a lot better then the other numbers.

the major bulk of hells forces is heretics. So you're more likely to run into another human who is more than susceptible to a sharp piece of metal to the soft bits. If demons get into your trench line then the situation was pretty terrible to begin with

Wait, so if the knight doesn't die in battle he goes to hell, but the method that creates him either kills him or makes him incredibly reliant on a special air mixture? What if he runs out of air while in reserve due to logistical issues? How does that make sense? You're basically handing hell reinforcements at that point. I mean the armor may be impervious to a anti tank round. But im sure that would still knock you flat on your back if not send yoy flying considering the force of the impact.
I also have one word to say to impervious armor: flammenwerfer.
Depends on how big they are in all honesty. They plus their armor could easily have a mass big enough that Anti Tank rounds would at most slow them down.
Of course all of that is without considering the possibility that it might be a form of magic that kills most if not all of the momentum of shell before impact. Therefore achiving both objectives and effecting nothing.
There are so many ways of doing this without changing anything its not hard to consider.

One interesting method that may work is actually transferring the kinetic energy into heat energy with that new material they developed. Ok, watching the video more, and there's just some retarded ideas here. The whole "the crusader is damned if he doesn't die in battle" is just straight up taking the idea of Valhalla from Norse Mythology, except it makes no sense because 'anyone can be saved' was a major selling point for Christianity compared to pagan faiths. Not to mention, that getting souls Damned to hell is precisely what the Devil wants, why would God make it easier for his nemesis to complete his objective?
I can accept that you need to bend Christian lore a bit to make a setting like this work, since having God as omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscience while actively fighting a war with Satan would just make Satan get steamrolled the moment he decides to intervene (as what happens in Revelations). But that doesn't mean God has to be an idiot just for 'mah grimdark'.
Besides the artwork, I fail to see why people care if the radical left infests this property. It's foundation is weak to begin with, and cool pictures & designs can only take you so far.
