*Should I do the entire trilogy?*
Yessir
Hell yeah & don't eat or drink anything when you do😂
There's 5 movies but the first 3 are the best.
100%
This is a great franchise
Will isn’t a slave. Back in the day an apprentice would call their teacher “master”. Probably still works for free but he isn’t forced there.
Is that indentured servitude?
@@deving9793indentured servitude would have an amount of time attached to it before they can leave freely. Will can leave any time he wants. He is still probably only working for lodging and food though.
@@deving9793an apprenticeship is an intensive one-on-one training in a certain trade, giving experience and basic lodging in exchange for unpaid labour, but he is not "owned" by the master (of the craft, not the man).
There are multiple uses of the term master 😅
And to learn the trade. Could've actually been a nice setup for him had things gone differently, blacksmith was a pretty lucrative gig for a commoner.
Not for free, they could sell their services but at a lower price as they are apprentices. Otherwise only people with savings would be able to afford learning the trade, which would render the practice useless. The problem would be to find someone willing to teach you, but I think the odds of them "hiring" you are better than in the current day, they didn't ask for resumes or a degree.
Actually mate there's 5 Pirates of the Caribbean with a 6th possibly in the works for 2025 or 26 😊
Johnny Depp based his mannerisms and physical performance on Keith Richards as 18th century pirates came across as rock stars to him. His acting during filming disturbed the higher ups at Disney but luckily they went along with it. The film was a massive financial success and Depp even got an Oscar nomination.
I believe an actor as successful as Depp most likely portrays the characters role based on how connects with the script. He was a bit of a rogue a liked it
Since you asked, the wigs are powdered wigs.
The powder is for head lice and the like. It was also used to cover sores and baldness caused by things like syphilis.
Eventually it became a sort of status symbol, since before only the rich could afford the wigs to "cover their shame" they became a symbol of being rich in themselves. Edit; The powder was often lead based giving them the white colour, and caused more sores and baldness, so owning one was a sort of vicious circle,
So owning one was a statement of status!?? That’s ridiculous to choose to be bald 😂😂😂
@@deving9793 didn't have showers back then like we do now, just baths every week or so, hair would get really gross so it was best to shave it hahaha
@@deving9793 it's not that weird... like getting your head shaved in boot camp.
In WW2, Private Jake "McNasty" McNiece shaved himself a mowhawk, primarily to reduce the amou t of hair he had because Germany at the time had a lice epidemic....
But yeah, in the early 1700s, aka the Golden Age of Piracy, when this would have taken place... powdered wigs were EXPENSIVE... so while more than the rich shaved their heads, only the rich and military officers could afford the wigs. So it did become a status symbol. And as someone else pointed out, the head shavingbnwas for hygiene purposes. Nobody had running water for daily showers yet.
Keep doing this edit style with you on full screen!
Love this edit style! i recommend you :
*solution to c0piright issues*
IMAGE EDITION :
- Edit the movie with partial % of transparency (and/or text)
- Flip the movie from Right to Left
AUDIO EDITION :
- Put the volume of the movie lower than the volume of your microphone(not too low). (Statics, White noise & your comments , make little distortion to the audio)
- Record the audio of your reaction separately from the audio of the movie, that way you can mute/edit the audio/image of the movie without muting/editing the audio/image of your reaction.

@Devin G I would love to see your reactions towards 8 Mile with Eminem I love that movie 🍿🎥 I still remember when it was my first time watching it 😁🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩.
Black pirates were surprisingly common in reality. Pirate crews would often try to recruit members from ships they attacked, and black crew usually recieved much better treatment on pirate ships than otherwise
These movies were fantastic!!! Also wigs were worn to cover up balding but they would get stinky so people added scented powder to them to cover the smell.
will wasnt a slave he was an apprentice black smith who served under a master blacksmith , who was really bad at his job
Beat me to it.
There are actually 5 Pirates of the Caribbean movies
my ears!! im only a minute in and i have to lower my volume by half. i get that youtubers need high energy to keep people from clicking off but not that loud, dude. Christ. 😆
Captain Jack was the captain of The Black Pearl. His first mate was Barbosa and Bootstrap Bill was just part of the crew.
They abandoned Jack on the island then stole that treasure. Jack wasn't there and so he wasnt cursed. To lift the curse every piece had to be returned aswell as some of their blood. Will's blood could work as a substitute of his fathers blood though. Also yes do the trilogy they are amazing films.
The curse really is a curse though. Like Barbosa said they were starving but cant die and also cant eat. All that food they had and cant stop the hunger or taste anything. When Elizabeth ate he asked how it tasted and was basically fantasizing about the food.
If you want more pirate content you should check out Black Sails even if its not for channel its worth watching imo
Will Turner is Orlando Bloom who was Legolas from Lord of the rings.
Check out Mad Max 1979. It was one of Mel Gibsons first movies Australia
Jack used to be a navy sailor but he went rogue after finding out his cargo was slaves, they decided to cut the scene because it was a bit heavy for a kids movie.
When you said that( think pirates are thugs) hey you are right pirates were very brutal and cruel but there was a method to it. pirates know that more savage they were less resistance there would be on the next ship or town.
Mary Read & Anne Bonny were real pirate women back in the early ages of time it's that there weren't many women pirates N the ones who wanted to be free , not follow rules n not pay taxes were pirates
One of the greatest movies of all time imo. Soundtrack, writing is peak cinema. Jack sparrow’s character is written perfectly here too. Here he is smart, witty and CUNNING. Unbeatable. Enjoy the rest of the movies.
There 5 pirates of the Caribbean
Brooooo I haven’t seen you on my for you page in a min love it!
" Pirates are just thugs on the sea. " - I'm dead 💀🙏
As good Jonny deep is in this I always thought Geoffrey rush upstaged him just a tade bit
Originally, Steven Spielberg was going to direct the film, but was too busy working on Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can, both released in 2002.
Hugh Jackman, Jim Carrey, Matthew McConaughey, Robin Williams, Robert DeNiro, Cary Elwes, Michael Keaton, Steve Martin, Bill Murray and Christopher Walkem were considered for Jack Sparrow.
Chris Masterson, Ben Peyton, Christian Bale and Tobey Maguire were considered for Will Turner.
Jessica Alba, Amanda Bynes, and Jaime Alexander were considered for Elizabeth Swann.
Tom Wilkinson and Sylvester McCoy were considered for Governor Swann.
I can’t imagine Robert DeNiro or Matthew McConaughey playing the can you!? At least not like Johnny Depp
Well you definately missed your calling, lol
Nicolas cage and Pirates of the Caribbean?
😂😂😂 I was all wrong, well I had Johnny Depp
wrong person
wrong blood

My 8th great-grandfather was the captain of a merchant ship that was boarded by pirates from the ship Le Grande on July 4, 1717. They left after helping themselves to part of his cargo. I also have a notorious Barbary Coast Corsair as a 12th great-grandfather, Jan Janszoon. He had two sons who settled in New Amsterdam, aka New York City, and had several children. His son Anthony, my 11th great-grandfather, is thought to have been the first Muslim colonist in North America.
That is so cool that you really know your family history! How did you even get that information?
@@deving9793 When I started working back on my tree a few years ago, I started with my paternal grandma’s side, since that was what we knew the least about. Turns out, more than 85% of her side had arrived in North America before 1700! I had just assumed her family came over in the 1800s like the vast majority of the Northern European immigrants I am descended from. I found out about the sea captain John Frost in a book about the Frost family someone had written in the 1920s that I found online (and yes, the poet Robert Frost is a fifth cousin through that captain). He had testified to the local council about his pirate encounter when he returned to port, and that record is still available. The Corsair showed up in my research, but that connection is also verified through DNA.
@@deving9793 Attempt two to answer! I don’t know why the first was deleted. Anyway, the info on that family was online, including the sea captain’s report about his pirate encounter. His last name was used in later family members’ middle names, including my 4th great-grandfather, so I knew the link to that line was correct. The Corsair research was verified through DNA.
C'mon ya scallywags, hit the like button for gods sake!!!!!! ☠️☠️
Watch them all, as there all diffrent 3 took time for me to like 4 was better, 5 is a bit messy
Considering how much thought Will put in designing the sword, he should have been the master
bro why is absolutely everyone watching POTC for the first time suddenly. IS this happening for anyone else?
Great reaction as always devin, once again i highly recommend checking out Snowtown 2011❤
Black pirates were actually quite common due to slavery
Bootstrap Bill wasn't the captain he was a normal pirate but he was the only one of the crew against overthrowing Jack and leaving him to die so Barbosa sent him to the bottom of the deep sea. Even though he was immortal from the curse they don't have superhuman strength so the water pressure would trap any of them who went down there. When you see them walking underwater to attack the ship at the end it's in a shallow part where the water pressure would be bearable. To reverse the curse all the pieces of gold have to be returned and the blood of the people who stole it must also be spilled. Bootstrap is stuck at the bottom of the sea though so they can't get his blood but since his son would share his blood they could use his that instead for his piece of the gold.
4:40 The best way to explain what a pirate is, is from the song Long John silver (Tim Curry) sings in Muppet Treasure Island "when you're a professional pirate". (You should watch Muppet Treasure Island too)
Powdered wigs were used to hide the balding caused by sífilis very common way to die back then😅
"pirates are thugs on the sea"
Brothers not wrong lmao
Facts!!
@deving9793
So, a bit of historical background to flesh out the setting and make some things make sense...
Elizabeth's dad is the Governor of Port Royal, a fort on the coast of Jamaica when it was a British colony in the Caribbean. At that time, the Caribbean had been carved up by the Spanish ans British mostly, along with some Dutch and French colonies. Piracy in the early 1700s was at an all time high in the Caribbean and the American eastern seaboard (Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida). Fort's like Port Royal were in place to garrison British army and navy to maintain order in their colonies and hunt pirates.
The Governor is the political authority of the colony, though the military had the real power. As a political authority, Mr. Swann (fictional character, one of many governors of the very real Port Royal, you can go there, it's in the harbor of Kingston) was well paid... not royalty, but enjoyed a life of luxury.
During that time there were hotspots of pirate enclaves... most notably Nassau in the Bahamas, a pirate trading post and sanctuary (until Britain finally took over and shut it down), but also places like (the very real) Tortuga, an island on the northwest coast of Haiti.
This movie itself is based on a ride at Disneyland, where the riders are on a skiff on a waterway passing things animatronic "scenes" the movie has easter eggs of, including the prison where the small group of pirates are trying to get the key from the dog (that entire bit, minus Jack Sparrow, is a scene on the ride), etc. The premise itself of the cursed treasure and Black Pearl wasnt part of the ride.
Uhoh... Dev has assimilated editing.....
Yeah, modern pirates use AK-47’s usually a little motorboats and they take over cargo ships or whatever they can take over and ransom unless they go up against the government that doesn’t give a shit and fucking waste them
Ohh ok! Kinda like ship jacking!?
@@deving9793 yes more or less
You should definitely do the trilogy! There are 2 more Pirates films in the franchise that aren't as good, but still recommend you check them out! Also, the actor that plays Will is Orlando Bloom. He portrayed Legolas in the Lord of the Rings movies. If you haven't seen them, I HIGHLY recommend doing a reaction to them!
You shall always remember this as the day that you first met CAPTAIN...JACK...SPARROW.
Fun fact(s):
• The black chick on Jack's ship is also Gamora in the Marvel movies.
• The role was originally was written for Hugh Jackman (wolverine) hence the character being named Jack.
• Johnny Depp was almost fired early on for his outlandish portrayal of Captain Jack, with producers afraid he was making the character look "gay", Johnny Depp told them "either trust me or fire me" his performance went on to become one of the most well-known and top regarded characters of all time.
• The movies are a spin-off of the Pirates of the Caribbean ride in Disney World which opened in 1973.
Back in the early ages of time pirates attacked other pirates it all depended on who had more ships with cannons n they prey on them n other ships with cargo n also the British n French battle ships with cannons
Originals were good no other reason why Disney doing sequel movies and that "reboot trilogy they planned"..
I have watched dozens of reactions, never seen anyone think Will was a slave.
You assume a character's disposition at the very start of seeing them and don't seem to change it . Hating on the Commodore and Elizabeth's father for no real reason.
Skipped the scene where her father was being thoughtful asking if she was making a wrong decision to accept Commodore proposal that way, so did you recognize that or not?... I'm thinking not, since you were still speaking shit about her father at the end.
Okay so at end you did seem to change opinion of Commodore recognizing him being respectful there.
I would think that Jack proudly says he is a pirate, makes most people think he has done many horrible and evil actions, so doing a small good deed such as saving Eliz wouldn't mean he should be wiped clean of crimes.
*I absolutely DO NOT care what anyone says, Johnny Depp was and IS the only actor who can effectively play Captain Jack Sparrow as well as he did. No other actor could top his performance.*
No one is saying that.
The only person who might is Jim Carrey but that's it really.
@@dapaintbrush6965
Nope.
It's Johnny or no ticket price for Disney.
@baskervillebee6097 bro I know Jack sparrow is Johnny that's his character. All I'm saying is Jim carry probably could and that's it.
Johnny wasn't playing Jack Sparrow he WAS Jack Sparrow
Snow White was the first feature length Disney film I believe.
I think they CAN feel PAIN. They do not feel pleasure of any kind.
"Master" is actually a term which refers to young or adolesent boys. Will is not a slave.
Do you not know about the Barbara pirates? They were all from africa🤔
Where have you been all these years.... lol😂 Johnny Depp is The Pirates of the Caribbean!
@Devin this original is a classic, the 2nd one had good parts but overall is meh, the rest are just cash grabs that most of the fanbase disliked. You would be better off watching better films but the patrons will decide :)
What better films would you recommend?
Second Hand Lions, Only the Brave
I heartily second Only The Brave
@@deving9793 If your looking for a romp at some of the best directors of all time you could do a John Ford reaction playlist, a Alfred Hitchcock film playlist, John Carpenter playlist or a Stanley Kubrick play list. If looking to do actors you could do a John Wayne play list, a Jimmy Stewart play list, Tom Hanks, Denzel. etc :) but you want to appease the patrons too :) but yea any of that will give you amazing films an amazing actors :). When making a deal you have to cover everything you want done down to the last detail. Especially with pirates
This trilogy is phenomenal. Three of my all time favorite movies and the characters are excellent. Can't wait until you see the next two! 🔥🔥🔥
The third was bad imo lol
6:22 us wiggers prefer the term " "indentured servant" back then at least if u saved a kids life u can legally make him work for u until he gets married or something😂

REACT ELIT SQUAD 2 BRAZILIAN MOVIE
when he means the black pearl is freedom, it's because the pearl is the fastest ship in the pirates of the caribbean universe.
Hey Devin G have you seen Windtalkers? That movie is one of my favorites
I've watched a minute of this, ya might wanna tone this attitude down being too energetic is very offputting and it seems forced which makes the entire thing feel dishonest, don't mean to be rude just some honest feedback
Can you react to the movie, “Guess Who”?

The two I know of are Mary Read (English) and Anne Bonny (Irish).
"Is this a horror movie?"
Well... sorta...?
You should look up what happened to the real Port Royal. The town was a pirate town with tons of pubs and was absolutely devastated. It was said that it was so full of sin that god had it struck thrice
Great reaction Devin and the sequel is pretty good too.

The reference to Will's Master had nothing to do with slavery - He was an apprentice to a Master Blacksmith.
Hsjsljzkfmebxk
Master = teacher in this situation.
Properly worn corsets actually were comfortable to wear.
It’s been proven several times over by women who are fashion historians.
It’s constant tight lacing and bad fitted corsets that are a problem. You don’t normally lace a corset that tight.
Also there are several kinds of corset like undergarments like stays that get confused for corsets.
It’s actually very interesting to learn about.
Also historically a lot of pirates were black because escaped enslaved people and stuff.
There were also quite a lot of lady pirates. There are a number of famous ones but there were probably even more as a lot of lady pirates dressed as men.
The ship that is the “Interceptor” in real life is docked in St.Lucia and you can dine and go out in it.
Not sure how expensive it is, but it’s there.
Alas, the Unicorn sank in 2014.
Lmao at that trippy intro😂
When the term of "Master" is used it does not elude to slavery but to apprenticeship. He was an apprentice to the master black smith to learn the trade, by this time he would have been a journeyman, so Master meant teacher.
OOOOOOOOOO! *LOVE* the leafy set❤❤
It also has Ol dirty bastard
❤
They are actually 5 not 3
You’re gonna like it. This is a good movie. I’m happy you’re watching it. I think I personally like the second one the most as well, my favorite lines. I’ll wait for you to watch a movie before I say what it is. Lol

Well Devin. Theres actually 5 with a 6th and maybe a spin-off in development hell. This fandom just doesn't really like to talk about 4 and 5 because they weren't that good.
Which one do you think is the best of all 5?
@@deving9793 Most would say the first or second. I'm in a bit of a minority that says the third one.
TAKE IT ALL OFF
Will’s father, Bootstrap Bill, was a member of the Barack Pearl’s crew. Barbosa was the 1st mate and Jack was the captain.
Bootstrap is the real father of the It Clown, Floki on Vikings tv show, and one of the recent Tarzans. Very talented family.
"Barack Pearl" 😂
He meant master in that Will was an apprentice, but since the master was a drunk, Will made the sword. That's why he took some umbrage to the suggestion of thanking his master for the sword. To be fair, stuck in the apprentice role in those days was pretty shit too. Often little to no pay, because "It will all pay off when you are in charge, and making the profits." excepts you often had to wait for 'the master' to die or retire, and you were bound to them by contract. And people didn't often retire from trade as they couldn't afford to, no pensions. So they worked till they dropped.
So that was indentured servitude right?
@@deving9793 pretty much, so almost slavery. Accept you get a chance of making mad profits when 'master dies' and then you get your own sla... I mean "apprentice" 😅 and yeah the apprentice often did most of the work while 'master' watches over them. Though the master would do all the finishing work and detail work.
Who is the editor of the videos, so good!!!!
I appreciate it! Do you think the editing makes my reactions stand out?
@@deving9793Hell ya! I have a good eye for editing and your videos are top notch
@@deving9793It does. Clean, clear, and keeps the audio audible. 👍. Switching up camera angles every once in a while helps.
Will isn't a slave he is an apprentice his "boss" is known as a master craftsman.
Oh ok. I taught he was slave considering he called him master. So that was more of a teacher to student standpoint
@@deving9793 people in the trades, especially trades with unions, still use the "apprentice/master" system to this day! For obvious reasons the word "master" has a lot of baggage but in this case it's a statement of skill rather than personal authority.
You know, like Jedi.
@deving9793 yes they were master and apprentice. Will was simply a working class blacksmith which is why he was thought to be not worthy for Elizabeth
@@deving9793 Slavery has never been the only context where the word "master" is used. Ever watched TMNT? Master Splinter. Kung Fu Panda? Grand Master Oogway. The word has multiple meanings. Historically a paid servant's employer was called their master (fictional example: Beauty and the Beast). It can also be a word for "teacher". Etc.
