Not too badd of a film. Still a fun movie. The presences of Keira Knightley and Orlando Bloom were definitely missed. What was your reaction to Stranger Tides? What is you rating for this film?

On Stranger Tides is a different kind of Pirates movie. Rather than seeing Jack cause chaos for Will and Elizabeth because of deals he shouldn't have made, we see him facing consequences of his choices directly. Jack is struggling to adapt to life without being on the Black Pearl again. He has a sound tactical mind who thrives on mischief to get what he wants. Add the ex-girlfriend and her father Blackbeard into the mix and you see Jack racking his rum soaked mind to get out of this mess. I like it because it's different. Adds more to the story as a whole. No Pirates without Captain Jack Sparrow.

    • @angelic252
      @angelic252 Год назад +21

@@ItsAlannaBanana the first 3 are my favorite because the humor isn't too crass, the writing is more cohesive, with all 3 being interconnected and gradually exploring the world building without breaking previously established rules like the last 2 do. The characters don't feel like caricatures, they feel like their own people with their own realistic motivations that drive the conflict further, and they, realistically, stray from more practical and easy decisions that just require some diplomacy, because its in their nature (for example, during the fight for the key in PoC 2, they don't need to fight, if they just give the heart to Jack or Will everyone's wishes could be fulfilled, but it makes sense for them to not trust the others enough to even think of that possibility)
What I dislike most about the last 2 is they turned Jack completely into a joke. He's always been funny to watch, with eccentricities and seemingly bizarre decision making, but he has never been a clown. There was always a highly intelligent mind ticking under his skull, which isn't so obvious in the latter 2 movies.
And the first 3 movies just feel like one cohesive epic story. The last 2 feel like unnecessary tack-ons that lack the ship fights, the focus on the sea, they feel more vague in their location building and they hardly feel like part of that initially established world. Also the last one was a copy of the third one to a T. The cursed immortal crew that's after Jack's life, the having to look for an object to stop a curse, the two young lovers that are supposed to mimic Will and Elizabeth's role in the story, one of them searching for their father's origins and identity...
I'll give them this, the last 2 movies feel more like the spirit of the novels about Jack's adventures, than the first 3 do. They have the same bizarre sporadic vibe.
I'm not trying to bash on your tastes BTW, you're free to love them. They did have a lot of jokes that made me laugh, and the visuals are, of course, improved overall.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it yet, however the flamethrower from an old sail ship like that is actually entirely possible and actually did happen. The only problem is (as with a huge amount of things through out history) we have forgotten how to do it. Myth busters did a little piece about it as far as the mechanics go, aside from some other dives into it. We could divulge in the conversation of alchemy, even. Which is just science. It's not a mystery of lost technology. It's a primitive means that we've advanced beyond the need to explore. Even still, those who have explored it, in recreation, have a good enough grasp on how it was done to the point of saying it's fully tangible if need be. Sure, you could say it's lost. White phosphorus may beg to differ. It's essentially pouring your hot bacon grease into a device that propels it as water is dumped/spritzed upon it as it launches. Boom. Greek fire.

And then afterwards he had to get back from there since he found the Spot, but not the Fountain itself - and travelled all the way from the caribbean to LONDON. That is quite the distance to save a friend.

I actually grew up about 87 miles from Blackbeard's favorite haunt, Ocracoke Island, North Carolina. He's a legend on the Outer Banks, but unfortunately the real Blackbeard and the one portrayed in this movie are two different ones. The real one preferred to use intimidation (6'5'', 225 pounds) over outright bloodshed, but this movie absolutely got the smoldering fuses in his hat and beard right. Also, Blackbeard's primary ship was actually called Queen Anne's Revenge, crewed by 300 men, and 40-cannon strong.

I just really liked the story of this one, the little love story between Jack and Angelique and I loved the mermaids honestly, they were very nicely done and build, a new darker take, the sea weed wip was really cool, the ship Blackbeard was controlling with the sword, etc. There were a lot of small detalies that I enjoyed in the movie. Same with the 5th one. I think the first 3 are more of a single story in which you need to pay attention to the bigger picture and the next two are different stories from Jack's life as a pirate and you can get lost in the detalies in them and that is what makes them more fun to watch I guess.

I find Sam Claflin so likable - even before the Hunger Games ever happened, I liked him in this - and I was just amazed and delighted to see a Hollywood movie create a missionary character and treat him with respect and admiration instead of making him a hypocrite. Yeah man Blackbeard is the most iconic pirate ever. In One Piece Blackbeard's real name is Marshall D. Teach, while the real historic Blackbeard's name was Edward Teach or Edward Thatch. So you can see that Oda used Blackbeard's name as inspiration for both Whitebeard and 4th Division Commander Thatch.
There are many characters in One Piece that share names with historical pirates, a lot from the Worst Generation as well like Kid (William "Captain" Kidd), Bonney (Anne Bonny) and X Drake (Sir Francis Drake). Also Bartholomew Kuma (Bartholomew "Black Bart" Roberts).
Also there was a pirate named Olivier Levasseur, who challenged the world to find his treasure, which still hasn't been found. Also there was the pirate John Every who was actually called 'King of Pirates'.
Cool to see a fellow One Piece fan!

I think is the best Pirate’s movie for some reasons:
    1. Is the only one about a treasure hunt, and not about breaking a curse.
    2. Is the only one in which mortal men want to be inmortal, instead of of inmortal men wanting to be mortal (more realistic).
    3. It has the most iconic and historical Pirate “Black Beard”.
    4. It has mermaids, one the most iconic and dangerous sea creatures in Pirate’s mythology. BTW, The missionary called the mermaid “Serena”, because it sounds like “Sirena”, Spanish for mermaid.
It was also nice to take a break from the fun, but still repetitive stuff, like the same Love triangles, curses, Jack being hunted, and CGI pirates.
And even if I think it’s the most Pirate like movie, I do agree is the less fun of all 5. My favourite will always be the first one.
Love re watching my favourite movies through your eyes and reactions, great videos.

I haven't watched this movie recently enough to judge it, but I do remember that intro scene! And it's a pretty good one. Also the mermaids scared me as a child.
Could never get used to Barbossa in English Uniform
The pearl in the bottle is such a cool concept.
Plus, it's always tough to see movies as they are, when the public's opinion is on your mind. When a movie is seen as 'bad' I find myself searching for the negatives instead of the positives.

    FUN FACTS!
Byzantine ships had flamethrowers well before the age of sail when these movies take place.
The Indiana Jones franchise canonically takes place in the same universe as Pirates of the Caribbean... at least in the Disney parks where they are connected by the Society of Explorers and Adventurers.

Sirens are actually man eaters, who lure in sailors to their deaths in the lore. The mermaids that children know are more so disney making them a good character instead of bad :)

I really love so much this Pirates Of The Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides movie! I love very much the story and the characters in it. They are all great and good job to the actors and actresses who played their respectives parts!
As I love so much mermaids/mermen since I'm a young child, I'm very happy to see mermaids in this Pirates Of The Caribbean movie!
I love so much the design of the mermaids in their beauty mermaids form and in with their monstrous mermaids form, the CGI on the mermaids tails are stunning, stunning tails even if I would prefer to see realistic silicone mermaid tails on the actresses, specifically on the mermaid Syrena because we saw her more than the others mermaids, I love so much this Syrena character!

I actually really enjoy this and part 5. I’m one of the few people who hated the third one for being overlong and way too convoluted, so I like how these next two go back to basics and just tell mostly stand alone adventure pirate stories, with familiar characters. Plus there were scenes in this that reminded me a lot of a super fun 90s pirate movie that I love, Cutthroat Island.

I was actually pleasantly surprised by this one. I like the more upbeat tone that feels more like the very first movie and the inclusions of Blackbeard, Mermaids & the Fountain of Youth. The actors added a lot with their performances. Some of it feels a bit underdeveloped, like with awkward dialogue or scenes that felt a little too simple or insignificant. (Did he just give her a name? Lol). I think with a bit more elbow grease (like a few more drafts to the script & that much needed ship battle!) this could've been a stellar entry to the series.
But as a die hard fan, I'm just thrilled that I don't hate it. 😄

Gibbs: Fuck it... I have to think of something else now.

The problem with this movie is that they made it Jack Sparrow as the main character. He’s not main character material, he’s the comedy sidekick character. The only time making the sidekick as the main actually worked was in Big Trouble In Little China.

Oak, with the disbelief of flame throwers.
Evidently, HP magic has let you accept magical ropes and ship without concern.🤣
Actually, a reasonable question as to the tech logic in the film.

Cruz is good and the Blackbeard arc is cool but Keira is missed.
