One of the sailors said earlier in the movie that it is said a kiss from a mermaid can prevent you from drowning. When Syrena kissed Philippe, she allowed him to live under water, so basically they're both going to live underwater. How that healed his giant cut wound he got near the fountain, I have no idea.
An interesting note: When Jack hands Gibbs his compass, he tells him that it will lead him to "freedom". If you remember in Curse of the Black Pearl, when he is stranded on the small island with Elizabeth and they are drinking rum on the beach, he tells her that "what a ship is...what the Black Pearl really is...is freedom." A small but cool callback.
Can we all agree that the luring of the mermaids part was the best part of this movie?! Just the haunting singing as the beautiful/creepy mermaids begin appearing one by one every second... *chef's kiss*

Remember that one pirate said that a mermaid's kiss protects you from drowning? So I always presumed Philip became a mer-man and him and Syrena got to live happily ever after at the bottom of the ocean little mermaid style, with lots of sea creature pets 😂
I always thought she either saved him and brought him somewhere safe where he can heal up and they spend their time together or she just made sure he wasn't dying alone (and maybe ate him afterwards).
@@FluffyJackie That's right, but also the fact that no mermaid kissed for real a man before the attack scene, that could tell that Syrena kissing Philip really saved him and let him become able to breath underwater/and/or become mer-man, since she was the only mermaid to give a kiss. I'm sure it's a powerful gift, along with the tears.
Yes, they used to brand criminals. The whole reason you raise your hand when swearing in court is a throwback to that: you're showing if you've a brand or not.
scrubbing the deck ensured the wood would last in the salt water and sea air, plus most pirates went barefoot, so keeping the deck clean and smooth reduced splintering. The redcoat outfits change based on military branch, rank, and occupation, so no two outfits are precisely the same. Plus they did upgrade them as time went on in cut and style to make them either more practical or more ceremonial, depending on the style of the time
While I'm not a big fan of this entry, I love the Spanish in this movie. They are the heroes. The movie opens with their king being informed of the discovery of this cursed ritual. He immediately dispatches his most loyal officer, who proceeds directly to his target not being distracted by the English or random misadventures. Upon finding the Fountain, they declare that it is in fact profane and destroy it, no temptation, no arguments about keeping it for themselves. Destroy the zombies as well, just for good measure. Then with duty to King and Country fulfilled, they just leave. And their score is pretty epic as well. Plus the best line in the movie. Kills the Englishmen waving the flag, "Someone take a note of that man's bravery." All that and looking good doing it.
I loved the scene where Barbossa (as a King's man) eats an apple but it's sliced and with a fork, it's a cool reference considering the previous movies
I watched this film and realized I have no shame and would absolutely let myself be dragged down by a mermaid 😅 or the priest for that matter. At the same time… like I said I have no shame 🤣😅🫠
i know people don’t particularly like this movie but i think it’s a good sequel! i’m a huge fan of the franchise and i always enjoyed this forth movie + penelope cruz is a wonderful woman, i loved seeing her in poc and the backstage anecdotes between her and johnny/the cast are very cute knowing she was pregnant while filming this!
Personally I can't not enjoy any of the movies that include Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. No matter how goofy I enjoy it. I still favor the first three as my favorites, but I don't dislike the others.
@@Trenchcoat3 - That's pretty much my feeling about it as well. I don't dislike this one, it still is on the + side, I just don't like it as much as the first 3 (I would've liked the 3rd better though, had they not upped the silliness to pie throwing-levels with the Jack Sparrow clones).
I know it sounds weird, but as a spanish i felt like the portrayal of the spaniards in this movie was so badass and strangely historically accurate. Edit: love your reactions btw♥
Especially the leader with the black hair and goatee. He came in there dressed up all clean, had his men destroy the fountain, killed a guy who wanted to brag, called Blackbeard a dumbass to his face, and left with no fear.
To answer your question about Black Beard's smoking beard he is said to have twisted multiple braids into his beard before setting each one on fire, and if noticed the actor who played the King of England is also Harry Potters uncle.
1. You guys kinda misunderstood how the Fountain of Youth works (even when Angelica explained it). Performing the ritual gives someone else's ENTIRE lifespan. All the years they have ALREDY lived and could have still lived when they died 2. Even tho this movie definetly has its problems some of the ideas and scenes are among the best in the franchise. Blackbeard was great, the mermaids were terrifying, the fountain of youth itself is fittingly shrouded in mystery etc 3. I love how the Spanish are basically the only good guys in this situation. In a movie where basically everyone is in it for themselves, they are there to reach the fountain because they want to destroy it. Believing its powers to be something that noone should have access to.
As a devout Catholic myself, I was pleasantly surprised by that Spanish twist as well! Not many people remember this due to how secular our culture has become, but the entire reason why Dracula and the concept of Vampires used to be terrifying is that it's a demonic inversion of the Eucharist. Instead of Jesus giving up his body and blood to grant humanity eternal-life in Heaven with him, freed from their sins and reunited with God, Dracula STEALS the blood of others, and damns them to the same fate as him: cursed to live in a state of original-sin forever in a fallen world, which might as well just be straight-up hell. The Fountain of Youth would curse its drinkers to this fate as well, so the Spanish rightfully seek to destroy it before it can rob anyone else of their chance for TRUE eternal-life. Even if you're not religious, that's a perfectly just, and even logical conclusion to reach. I was still a little disappointed that the sequels Post-World'sEnd didn't have more of an arcing story like the Trilogy that preceded it, and I REALLY wish that BlackBeard stuck around as the new big-bad for a second trilogy because it's freakin' BlackBeard, but this film was still a lot of fun, it had some very creative moments, and of course as always, Captain Jack Sparrow with a Rope is like Daredevil in a Hallway, or Obi-Wan with the High-Ground. By grabbing and/or cutting a rope, he magically turns into Spider-Man for a couple minutes and also gains ENORMOUS-EXTRA-POWERFULNESS!!!🤯 The SuperStar power-up from Mario's got NOTHING on that! Combine that with the powers of Meta-Luck, his Compass, AND the Black-Pearl, (When it hasn't been stolen from him again, lol) the mighty Captain Jack Sparrow is truly a force to be reckoned with, and I really, REALLY wanna see a fanfic motion-comic or something that crosses him over into OnePiece! C'mon, people, make it happen!🥺 I actually had some ideas for how I might've planned a sequel-trilogy for PotC, if you're interested, though it's mostly just broad ideas and plans, nothing super-elaborate and thorough. I both extremely envy, and extremely UN-envy the people put in charge of planning out long, sprawling cinematic sagas. Envy because it's my life-dream to write such incredible stories professionally, and UN-envy because of how hard it really is and how long it takes. "A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it is to be God." - Sidney Sheldon
Scrubbing the deck is to avoid the formation of fungus on the wood, sometimes they apply oil and they need to constantly keep scrubbing it to clean it back, turn it smooth and avoid the formation of splinters.
As a spanish, and as far as Hollywood goes to makes us "the villains" this is.... cool. They are the more morally guided, they are badasses at fight, honorable and do not want the Fountain for egoistic purposes. So far, not the worst Americans have said about as in films XD
Blackbeard wore his black beard and hair very long, but he never actually lit them on fire. He would put little candles or pieces of a fuse in his hair and light those. They would give off smoke, giving the pirate a fearsome, demonic appearance. In battle, this intimidation worked: his foes were terrified of him. Blackbeard's flag was scary, too: it featured a skeleton stabbing a red heart with a spear.
Fun fact: Dragon ships did exist. The oldest one I heard of are basically from the Byzantine Empire and had Greek Fire, very devastating even water can't douse it. The other one I know are Turtle ships from Korea. It had a spiked cover to prevent boarding and it front had a dragon head that would release smoke or fire in combat.
They should've just ended it with this. It was a bit over the top, with the mermaid sea grass slings, but it still has the soul of a Pirates movie and it had a good open ending with Angelica giving birth to Jacks kid. And I love the spanish touch. While the fifth is just pure disrespect, it ignores established lore and practically everything that happened in the prior 4 movies, it made Jack a sad joke, just there for comic relief, screwed over Barbossa, by making him obsessed with riches, which makes no sense since he was cursed 'cause of that, he'd never develop that kinda greed for money after that kinda experience. And to top it off, they got rid of his hat and wigged him, despite him throwing the wig away at the end of Stranger Tides and putting back on his awesome hat. Then there's the Will curse thing. Don't you think that if there was a way to lift that Flying Dutchman curse, Davy Jones would've found it, hell even Will would've found it! Especially if it's only reachable under water!!! And Davy Jones returning at the end is just cheap and dumb. That movie really was just a terrible high budget fan fiction.
I’m actually fairly certain (someone else commented this, go bother them for a link) that the curse was actually supposed to lift when Will came back and Elizabeth was there. Apparently it was said by the movie’s director, so with that as you will
I'm sure someone said it already, but a mermaid's kiss makes you able to breathe underwater (as we saw the guy tangled up in the fishing net at the beginning, he was breathing underwater too), so when Syrena kissed Philip, she was bringing him to the other mermaids so they could presumably safely take care of him away from the battle!
@@roryhillsbury100 We can assume from what we know of the movie. The guy claimed to be a crewmember of Ponce de León from 200 years ago, you need a mermaid tear to use the Fountain so obviously he had to get a tear, probably got a kiss from a mermaid and spent those 200 years living with them, then randomly got caught in the fishing nets while underwater.
I like to think that Syrena saved Phillip from drowning by kissing him. One of the crew members earlier on said something about a mermaid's kiss protects a sailor from drowning
21:23 The reason is because the real Blackbeard would attach fuses to his beard and light them before a battle. To the enemy who were mostly made up of superstitious sailors it made him seem demonic. It worked so well that Blackbeard became one of the most infamous and terrifying pirates around despite the fact that he was actually quite merciful and fair compared to others. He was so feared in fact that he once approached a settlement in hopes of sacking it but the very sight of his ship insighted a riot from the civillians which did most of the work for him
Did you notice that King George was Uncle Dursley from Harry Potter? Judy Dench has a crush on Johnny. (Graham Norton Show) Captain Jack's dad is Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones, the original inspiration for Jack. The deck was swabbed to keep the boards water tight. Blackbeard's smoking beard? Matchlock guns were fired by lighting the powder with a little piece of smoldering rope. Wouldn't it be tough guy to use your beard? Ian McShane plays Winston in John Wick and Swearengin in Deadwood.
15:49 The scrubbing is weatherproofing. They’re applying tar to the deck (which is constantly washing off, with rain or waves). Yes, they’re doing it far too often, imo, but if the wood is wet when you start, it does wash off easier (but it’s tar, so it’s still not THAT easy). If you had to walk around on wet wood all day with no tar, everyone would be slipping everywhere. This is also the reason for diamond plating and grates in industrial use. Wet metal is more slippery than wet wood. Water management and grip is a key priority on ships, oil rigs, and anywhere else where water happens.
Back in the days it was hard to keep produce fresh, so they had a bunch of live animals on their boats that they would kill one by one in order to get fresh meat (although they also had some super salty preserved pork), and those animals were mostly loose, pooping everywhere. That might be why they're always scrubbing the deck. Funnily enough sailors on the ships that were covered in animal poo were less likely to get some diseases than others.
kind of like how we got the smallpox vaccine from figuring out that cowmaids that were around cows with cowpox fared better against smallpox because they were already used to the cow version of the disease?
I know this video is a year old, but the reason why they are always scrubbing the deck is because crews actually had to take salt water from the ocean to wash out unwanted bacteria that grows on the wets planks. Just a pretty cool fun fact if you see this!
The mermaid scene is one of my favorite scenes in any movie ever. They were so perfectly portrayed. Beautiful sirens that lure men to their demise, even when they knew about the danger…. The music, the camera shots, how they all start to gather silently, just perfect!
I'm glad y'all keep going! My personal favorite is the 3rd but I think the 5th might be my second favorite. All the movies are good in my opinion and I don't understand why some people HATE the last two😂 Edit: goodness gracious it's not that serious. The last two are basically side stories with the 5th being more of an actual ending to the series. Of course they messed up some stuff but as a casual watcher it's fine.
because the 5th movie destroyed the whole purpose of the 2nd and 3rd (the Flying Dutchman must have a capitan and whole purpose of it and why did Will start getting like Davy Jones if he did his duty) and messed up with A LOT of lore that was given to us in pevious movies. Like how Jack got the compass (from Calypso/from a random capitan) or how he gave it away multiple times before and nothing happened. The 5th movie was saddly just rly messy and it felt like the people who made it havent even watched the previous ones.
I love the last two the best, actually. I like the new themes and modern elements they bring to the stories. And it is fun seeing the son of Elizabeth and Will follow in their footsteps.
@@Sway22 Will doesn't gonna change like Davy Jones. Watch that movie againg, the reason of his tentacle look was because he stop doing his labor, he corrupted himself and his crew. If Will keep doing his job he will keep his young aspect. The problem is that only he got eternal life, so Elizabeth will get old and die while he can only see her once every 10 years (at least in land). About compass the lore wasn't changed. It was given to Jack so he gave it to the Captain of the Black Pearl (Morgan). So it wasn't a random pirate. It goes from Tia Dalma to Jack, from Jack to Morgan, then from Morgan to Jack. It was never said that Jack was the first owner of the compass neither the first Captain of the Pearl. Jack was the delivery boy for the Compass. And.. Jack move the compass around him as he need, whitout losing idea of where it is. Those were loans, not gave it away (the reason of the appearance of Salazar)
@@FolkenTube and how would you ecplain even the possibility to get rid of the flying dutchmans job and freeing will? It goes against everything established in 2nd and 3rd movie.
@@Sway22 The "job" of Davy Jones was never said to be obligatory to exist. As a matter of fact, we saw in Pirates III how the people go for themselves to the other side whitout the guide of Davy Jones. The Flying Dutchmans was a ship like the Black Pearl but got cursed for the pact of Davy and Calypso. I don't understand why Calypso wanted that someone take that job, maybe some souls get lost in his way to the other side or maybe get tortured in his travel (we saw some being dragged by the current while others gone in boat). We gotta take in consideration that Calypso is a goddess, eternal, but Davy was a simple human that fall in love with her. Davy is not another god. Given that the "job" is in reality a curse, then it can be broken.
As silly as it may seem, a ship having a flamethrower isn't that out of the ordinary. The Byzantine Empire during the Dark and Medieval age employed "Greek Fire Ships", that would spew greek fire during naval battles. I was effectively Medieval Napalm that couldn't be put out with water or other liquids.
NGL, I wouldn't mind being stranded on an island with Penelope Cruz... don't think I'd be too gutted if I found out that was my fate 🥰🙈 Side note: there are some super cute Penelope/Johnny bloopers on RUclips with the pair of them giggling like school kids, its just so cute.
In real life, Edward Teach captured a Frigate under the command of French Pirateers called "La Concorde" in1717. He renamed it The Queen Anne's Revenge.
I liked this movie, it felt like a fun little spin off with more of Jack’s adventures, though I really didn’t like the 5th one because they failed to stay true to Jack’s character and ignored lore set in place by previous movies.
I love their suspicion of the mermaid. I wish there had been more ambiguity around Serena, like make her more dangerous: she was trying to hurt Philip at first instead of save him, but we see her change towards him as he's kind to her despite that.
This is my favourite movie from the franchise. I'm Spanish and even if I'm not the biggest Penélope's fan, she played the role perfectly. Waiting for more reactions from you, guys! (sry if my Elglish is not super correct...)
goddamnit it's literally 12:19 midnight where i'm from and i have to go to sleep like right now lmaoo. guess i'll just watch it later when i wake up. 😆
This one feels like an unintentional spinoff as the next one isn't exactly related. More so to the 3rd one actually. That and I think this is when Johnny entered a relationship with a certain blonde. Or close to it. So, these two don't have the same energy as the first trilogy, all around. But, they are enjoyable nonetheless.
The British Officers with Barbosa are Gillette and Theodore Groves from the 1st movie. They continued to serve the Royal Navy for their time in the franchise. It was a nice added aspect imo.
I liked that one of the man that were with Barbossa was the same left hand of Norrington. The one that got shot when he tried to claim the fountain for England :)
this is how i got introduced to jack sparrow when i was 9 or 10, about when it came out, and i was at my friends house and she said she knew a fun movie and I've been in love with jack every since
So you're saying when Jack is swinging on a rope it's like... ACTIVE: Jack enters Evasion, a defensive stance, for 2 seconds, causing all non-turret basic attacks against him to be dodged. Jack also takes 25% reduced damage from all champion area of effect abilities. Counter Strike can be recast after 1 second. At the end of the duration, Jack stuns all nearby enemies for 1 second and deals physical damage to them, increased by 20% for each attack dodged, up to a 100% increase.
In the movies Jack has a red spot on his face that slowly grows throughout the movies! This red spot was a joke between Depp and the makeup department. The red spot is supposed to be syphilis!
Many people miss this, but barbossa actually used the frogs poison for his blade. Im not sure but i think thats the reason he was kinda keen on them, for revenge.
The East India Trading Company branded pirates all the time. It was them who had the armada in the prior movie. They were a British owned company and hired army or Britain soldiers all the time. They were the most ruthless force on the seas.
I’ve been watching this channel since you guys reacted to Harry Potter & A Very Potter Musical. I’ve been subscribed to the Patreon for a while now as well… and “instructions unclear” is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard NTB say 😂 I laughed so hard lmao
Sea Legs is a real thing when my dad was in the navy USS John F Kennedy (cv-67) after returning from 6 months out at sea My mom told me Once My Dad's feet stepped on shore off the gang plank he would walk like he was wearing High Heels for 2-3 weeks and also whenever he got drunk he would revert to walking like he's wearing high heels which i have witness myself and it boggled the mind of a few cops on how my dad passed DUI roadside test when they could clearly tell he had been drinking then when they hear "Navy" the light bulb turn on followed by a Ahh!
28:49 maybe here for the end with the priest. She might have brought him somewhere where he can be saved from injuries, but maybe that place is under the sea somewhere...i dont know..everyone can imagine what they want XD
This movie is enjoyable and fun because of the writing of Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio, who also were the writers of the first 3 movies. Pirates 5 wasn't written by them, and it sadly shows...
28:50 the sirens be functioning like the fountain, the only way to live a lot more is to eat/kill someone else, but that makes you less human the more you go along
15:45 i remember reading somewhere that ship's planks would spoil and shrunk over time due to the salt in the ambient. So, sailors scrub the ship daily in order to keep their planks in their best condition, or they might break and create a leak
I honestly couldn’t like On Stranger Tides as much as the previous films. It was interesting enough to watch, only it didn’t please me like the others.
Penelope Cruz was pregnant during the movie, so in most of the scenes where we can see her body her sister, Monica Cruz, played the role. Monica is a really skilled dancer, btw.
So they scrubbed the decks in old ships because the saltwater helped keep down mildew on the wooden boards and probably the biggest thing is it kept the wood swollen to help reduce the effects of any leaks
Thank you for continuing the series as opposed to major opinion, I honestly like all pirates movies; never understood the hate cause for me these were more of spin-offs. I’m so glad that this movie focuses more on Barbosa and Jack’s bond. Watching Barbosa acting so out of his character was funny but it paid off at the end when he was back to being a pirate and he finally went to Tortuga just like a normal. The happiness on his face tells it all. I think the mermaid and the religious guys fills the emptiness of Will and Elizabeth. I personally liked 5th movie despite inconsistencies especially Barbosa’s arc coming to an end. Can’t wait for your reaction on 5th movie.
Swabbing the deck kept mildew from forming on the wood and also kept the boards wet so that they would be swollen, making them tighter to prevent leaks.
In case no one answered about the uniforms, in the scene in the palace were uniforms for the army, not the navy, so they would be different. Naval uniforms were, well, navy blue and army was red (hence the phrase "redcoats").
The Spanish guitar from this series is preformed by a duo Rodrigo and Gabriella. They are beyond incredible. One of their most famous performances is Diablo Rojo. Look them up.
37:39 "where is this this is stunning." This scene was filmed on Kauai Hawaii, the North shore. My home actually, I've been where jack is standing in this scene, beautiful spot, basically inaccessible except by boat or helicopter. Fun fact: For the part of the scene where we get a swooping view through the rock arch, they actually flew a helicopter under it.
The scene with King George Asking Jack about the map to the fountain of youth. That is the same king who’s taxing the colonies and ruler at the time during the revolutionary war.
throughout all 5 pirates movies jack has never received 1 strike/beat/hit in the body, not even a touch from the enemy, whilst having battling the dead, himself dying by the swallow of an Octobeast, coming back to life just to fight the British army in a thunderstorm ship battle, fighting against a vodoo magician(except that one doll poking scene), and then facing the dead again only to end up being the captain of the pearl and yoho his way out in the sea.
I liked that they had Captain Teague back, he is of course played by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones who Depp based his character of Jack Sparrow on.
I LOVE your reactions to these videos! Between James' giggling at just the crazy Jack stuff and NineTailedBrush's animation insight, it's so much fun to watch these. Thank you! Sidenote: have you guys ever reacted to the Chronicles of Narnia? Specifically Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe? I feel like you might really enjoy those .... And they're on Disney+ so .... 😉
Tecnically the spanish are the good guys. The fountain was a powerful weapon to leave for some king to take so they destroyed the fountain. Meanwhile the other caracters exept for Barbossa wanted to use the fountain for their own benefit.
The years lived thing is a touchy thing because if a kid drinks it and say the kid is only 10 years old then the other person who is 45 years old then becomes 10 years younger to now be 35 and say if a 60 year old person drinks it and the other person is 50 years old then both lives will end... there is a reason why Math is Killer and stinks LOL
It's not just scrubbing, they have to maintain the wood, it's usually tar and filler in the gaps between boards. The tar prevents the wood soaking up water.
I've experienced the sea legs to a very minor degree, recovered within a minute or two, when I went sailing. Even though it was just a day or two sailing and walking up and down the narrow deck, once you feel confident doing it and get your balance right you do indeed feel very strange the first few steps you take on solid land.
also it makes no sense using a child since they would have been around for only a few years but if you used someone who was 80 or 100 years old would be better cause then you get all the years lived which would become yours meaning you would be able to live for another 100 years so if you lived to be 100 on your own but your like 20 and you took the years from a 100 year old person you would be able to live to somewhere around 200 years
Swabbing the deck with seawater keeps them swollen and pressed tight against each other, preventing waves from drenching the rooms below decks. Amidst the mists and coldest frosts he thrusts his fists against the posts and still insists he sees the ghosts. And they filmed this in Hawaii on the island of Oahu.
@@whitenoisereacts it also works to waterproof the wood, funnily enough. as the wood takes in water it expands, closing any gaps that might otherwise be between the planks

scrubbing the deck ensured the wood would last in the salt water and sea air, plus most pirates went barefoot, so keeping the deck clean and smooth reduced splintering.
"Who wants to watch a court show with Captain Jack Sparrow?" I thought we already did? 😆
Shhhh lol
Lol and it was just as entertaining and wacky as a pirate's movie
I've had a completely unnecessary and immobilizing fear of the ocean and dark water and this movie and the mermaids completely solidified that fear 💀
thalassophobia
Have you ever figured out why people enjoy getting into lakes and oceans? I cannot
I watched this film and realized I have no shame and would absolutely let myself be dragged down by a mermaid 😅 or the priest for that matter. At the same time… like I said I have no shame 🤣😅🫠
Some would say that just solidifies your belief in mermaids too!
The mermaid scene was the best part of the movie
i know people don’t particularly like this movie but i think it’s a good sequel! i’m a huge fan of the franchise and i always enjoyed this forth movie + penelope cruz is a wonderful woman, i loved seeing her in poc and the backstage anecdotes between her and johnny/the cast are very cute knowing she was pregnant while filming this!
Penelope Cruz 🔥🤘
Sooooo she wasnt lying to jack on The Island 🤣
Personally I can't not enjoy any of the movies that include Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow. No matter how goofy I enjoy it. I still favor the first three as my favorites, but I don't dislike the others.
@@Trenchcoat3 - That's pretty much my feeling about it as well. I don't dislike this one, it still is on the + side, I just don't like it as much as the first 3 (I would've liked the 3rd better though, had they not upped the silliness to pie throwing-levels with the Jack Sparrow clones).
Why people don't like this movie..?
I know it sounds weird, but as a spanish i felt like the portrayal of the spaniards in this movie was so badass and strangely historically accurate.
Edit: love your reactions btw♥
Right? I'd love a tripple A game set in Spain of that time or a fantasy place that's a lot like the Spain of that time.
During this Era they were quite the navy power but British royal navy improved to command the seas of eruope of that age
Especially the leader with the black hair and goatee. He came in there dressed up all clean, had his men destroy the fountain, killed a guy who wanted to brag, called Blackbeard a dumbass to his face, and left with no fear.
Spanish here?? Why.
To answer your question about Black Beard's smoking beard he is said to have twisted multiple braids into his beard before setting each one on fire, and if noticed the actor who played the King of England is also Harry Potters uncle.
And that's where the myth of him being a demon came from. Highly recommend Count Dankula's "Absolute Mad Lads" episode on Blackbeard.
1. You guys kinda misunderstood how the Fountain of Youth works (even when Angelica explained it). Performing the ritual gives someone else's ENTIRE lifespan. All the years they have ALREDY lived and could have still lived when they died
2. Even tho this movie definetly has its problems some of the ideas and scenes are among the best in the franchise.
Blackbeard was great, the mermaids were terrifying, the fountain of youth itself is fittingly shrouded in mystery etc
C'mon, people, make it happen!🥺
I actually had some ideas for how I might've planned a sequel-trilogy for PotC, if you're interested, though it's mostly just broad ideas and plans, nothing super-elaborate and thorough. I both extremely envy, and extremely UN-envy the people put in charge of planning out long, sprawling cinematic sagas. Envy because it's my life-dream to write such incredible stories professionally, and UN-envy because of how hard it really is and how long it takes.
"A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it is to be God."
- Sidney Sheldon
Scrubbing the deck is to avoid the formation of fungus on the wood, sometimes they apply oil and they need to constantly keep scrubbing it to clean it back, turn it smooth and avoid the formation of splinters.
I thought it was tar, rather than oil...or pine pitch. Maybe different stuff in different climates, or circumstances.
As a spanish, and as far as Hollywood goes to makes us "the villains" this is.... cool. They are the more morally guided, they are badasses at fight, honorable and do not want the Fountain for egoistic purposes. So far, not the worst Americans have said about as in films XD
What movies have made Spaniards the villians?
laughs in american latin
Spanish are so unfathombly based, both in life and in the movie.
52:48 - Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition. ;)
The King of Britain was played by the actor of Uncle Vernon from Harry Potter. R.I.P to this man
I think that it was his last movie before he died
Perfect way to describe it!!
I’m actually fairly certain (someone else commented this, go bother them for a link) that the curse was actually supposed to lift when Will came back and Elizabeth was there. Apparently it was said by the movie’s director, so with that as you will
Umm.... Angelica isn't pregnant, my dude 😂.
@@b.u.l.1734 Yeah she was, there's a post credit scene.
@@FluffyJackie The one involving the voodoo doll? How is that related to Angelica's supposed pregnancy?
I'm sure someone said it already, but a mermaid's kiss makes you able to breathe underwater (as we saw the guy tangled up in the fishing net at the beginning, he was breathing underwater too), so when Syrena kissed Philip, she was bringing him to the other mermaids so they could presumably safely take care of him away from the battle!
how d you know the man in the fishing net was breathing underwater????
@@roryhillsbury100 We can assume from what we know of the movie. The guy claimed to be a crewmember of Ponce de León from 200 years ago, you need a mermaid tear to use the Fountain so obviously he had to get a tear, probably got a kiss from a mermaid and spent those 200 years living with them, then randomly got caught in the fishing nets while underwater.
We actually don’t know that is the case. We know it is rumored. There wasn’t confirmation.
(Graham Norton Show)
Captain Jack's dad is Keith Richards from the Rolling Stones, the original inspiration for Jack.
The actual Edward Teach was rumored to have have braided wicks in his beard and lit them to frighten his enemies.
@@infin8um
I thought the wicks were for the matchlock guns?
@@baskervillebee6097 he'd have lengths of fuse for the ship's cannons.
"Who wants to watch a court show with Jack?" Ehhhh kinda had that one already mate
15:52 it’s slippy when wet and it helps prevent wood rot and other terminal things for boats
All the movies are good in my opinion and I don't understand why some people HATE the last two😂
Edit: goodness gracious it's not that serious.
Nice to see Uncle Vernon and Finnicj here 😆 love your reaction, guys!!
😂😂
As silly as it may seem, a ship having a flamethrower isn't that out of the ordinary. The Byzantine Empire during the Dark and Medieval age employed "Greek Fire Ships", that would spew greek fire during naval battles. I was effectively Medieval Napalm that couldn't be put out with water or other liquids.
But I also doubt any ship during this age would use Greek fire ships when cannon balls can hit the barrel of Greek fire or what not
NGL, I wouldn't mind being stranded on an island with Penelope Cruz... don't think I'd be too gutted if I found out that was my fate 🥰🙈 Side note: there are some super cute Penelope/Johnny bloopers on RUclips with the pair of them giggling like school kids, its just so cute.

The one that got shot when he tried to claim the fountain for England :)
this is how i got introduced to jack sparrow when i was 9 or 10, about when it came out, and i was at my friends house and she said she knew a fun movie and I've been in love with jack every since
At the end of the day Jack is a sailor so of course he’s good with ropes!
you guys are probably my fav reaction channel :) your comments are absolutely hilarious.
thanks for another great reaction guys
This one was fun to watch and a good movie to satisfy your need for piratey entertainment lol!!!!
Agreed!!!
LMAO!!! Exactly!!!
In the movies Jack has a red spot on his face that slowly grows throughout the movies! This red spot was a joke between Depp and the makeup department. The red spot is supposed to be syphilis!
The scrubbing decks is usually them washing the top from salts and the ones underneath they’re laying tar so there are no leaks.
44:34 crying on kidness and compassion was so good tough, lol
Many people miss this, but barbossa actually used the frogs poison for his blade. Im not sure but i think thats the reason he was kinda keen on them, for revenge.
I think this was one of my absolute favourites of your reactions 😊
Originally, I thought the mermaid singing was pretty, but now I see a much more haunting air to it,
This might sound weird, but i kinda like we took a little brake from Will and elizabeths story and focused more on Jacks. I like it
The East India Trading Company branded pirates all the time. It was them who had the armada in the prior movie. They were a British owned company and hired army or Britain soldiers all the time. They were the most ruthless force on the seas.
Blackbeard's beard/hair was smoking because IRL he often tied lit fuses into his hair to give himself a more intimidating appearance.
I’ve been watching this channel since you guys reacted to Harry Potter & A Very Potter Musical. I’ve been subscribed to the Patreon for a while now as well… and “instructions unclear” is the funniest thing I’ve ever heard NTB say 😂 I laughed so hard lmao
Maybe I'm just easily amused but the way NTB says 'True', even when it doesn't technically make sense, always tickles me.
It was filmed in Hawaii and Los Angles. They could have used Cornwall and Jamaica for authenticity.
I honestly forgot how much I loved this movie, until I watched your reaction.
Its a FUN movie
Sea Legs is a real thing when my dad was in the navy USS John F Kennedy (cv-67) after returning from 6 months out at sea My mom told me Once My Dad's feet stepped on shore off the gang plank he would walk like he was wearing High Heels for 2-3 weeks and also whenever he got drunk he would revert to walking like he's wearing high heels which i have witness myself and it boggled the mind of a few cops on how my dad passed DUI roadside test when they could clearly tell he had been drinking then when they hear "Navy" the light bulb turn on followed by a Ahh!
Apparently black beard would have smoke everywhere he went to make people believe he was a ghost or something. Terrifying.
This one's in my top 3 of the pirates films. 2,1,4. So so underrated in my opinion. Such a good story too
28:49 maybe here for the end with the priest.
Also they used the book On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers as inspiration
28:50 the sirens be functioning like the fountain, the only way to live a lot more is to eat/kill someone else, but that makes you less human the more you go along
Playing Jack's dad, isn't that Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones ?!
Always love seeing uncle Vernon in the court lol
15:45 i remember reading somewhere that ship's planks would spoil and shrunk over time due to the salt in the ambient. So, sailors scrub the ship daily in order to keep their planks in their best condition, or they might break and create a leak
I honestly couldn’t like On Stranger Tides as much as the previous films. It was interesting enough to watch, only it didn’t please me like the others.
Agree. It's fun, but the others top it by far
Philip (the missionary) is played by Sam Claflin aka Finnick from The Hunger Games. It was the first role I ever saw him in.
The uniforms and insignias changed often then throughout the colonies and protectorates.
Oh ok!! That’s cool
They used to brand people for all kinds of things. Piracy was included but no more common than T for thief.
"Who wants to watch a court show with Jack sparrow "......
throughout all 5 pirates movies jack has never received 1 strike/beat/hit in the body, not even a touch from the enemy, whilst having battling the dead, himself dying by the swallow of an Octobeast, coming back to life just to fight the British army in a thunderstorm ship battle, fighting against a vodoo magician(except that one doll poking scene), and then facing the dead again only to end up being the captain of the pearl and yoho his way out in the sea.
Barbossa stabbed him in the chest in the first movie.
I liked that they had Captain Teague back, he is of course played by Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones who Depp based his character of Jack Sparrow on.

The years lived thing is a touchy thing because if a kid drinks it and say the kid is only 10 years old then the other person who is 45 years old then becomes 10 years younger to now be 35 and say if a 60 year old person drinks it and the other person is 50 years old then both lives will end... there is a reason why Math is Killer and stinks LOL
barbossa is my absolute favorite character, so i really enjoyed this movie
It's not just scrubbing, they have to maintain the wood, it's usually tar and filler in the gaps between boards. The tar prevents the wood soaking up water.
They should have just cut onions infront of the mermaid to get the tears :D
I got to watch this one in cinema. It was such an epic feeling!
3:50 - "who wants to watch a court show with jack sparrow"
Well i mean just that did happen a few months back, like always he was brilliant =P
they swab down the deck to wetten the wood with salty seawater, preventing it from drying because of the water, and from rotting because of the salt.
Oh ok
@@whitenoisereacts it also works to waterproof the wood, funnily enough. as the wood takes in water it expands, closing any gaps that might otherwise be between the planks
