  • Highlights of the show that aired on March 15, 2007. Guest included ex-gay survivor Lance Carroll, president of Exodus International, Alan Chambers. A friend of mine taped and edited the piece based on what he thought were the most important moments of the show.

    Alan Chambers has given up, he is now out of the closet and living with a man. And Exodus has folded and begged forgiveness from all the gays and lesbians they have harmed so much

      Seriously after all the PROVEN facts do really believe in the bible. 2 civilizations of hunter gatherers' far far apart had 6 of the more infamous stories/folklore flood,david and goliath, etc "enscribed" on the cave walls... 6,000 years prior to the 1st bible publication. the bible never lies genesis 2 God made ALL animals then man....same chapter god made man then ALL animals....loosely reciting but versley true....I've met 2 papacies (that worked in the Vatican who have mysteriously died because of trying to share TRUE info from the Vatican if the pope is not allowed to see the truth then why....

    Being gay is fucking awesome. I've been married for almost 10 years to my amazing husband and it has been a truly fantastic journey.
    Alan Chambers is ridiculous: he took nine months to figure out what to do with a woman sexually? Most boys can figure out at the age of 12 pretty much what to do.
    Also, Alan Chambers closed Exodus in 2013 and apologized to gay people for the harm that Exodus caused, admitting that he never saw any evidence of real change in any of the tens of thousands of people he met.

    At 3:54, Montel really went off with his question. Technically, what he quoted says that Exodus International seeks to "effectively communicate the message of liberation from homosexuality."
    Now, I'm a Catholic. I do my best to love people of every sexual orientation, walk of life, or creed; it does not mean that I necessarily agree with what they do, but I will attempt to love them just as Christ loves me despite my own faults.
    Thus, I don't reach the conclusion that Montel does. (cont...)

    208, neither religion nor any deity can change innate components of a human being. Being gay, being black, being left-handed, being tall, and any other natural, normal human attributes are unchangeable and a fundamental part of who you are. People can convince themselves of any myth, if they try hard enough, but the facts in the real world cannot be denied.

    Being gay in general is inborn. You don't know that you're gay once you're in this world but later on in life you will realize it. And its YOU who must acknowledge whether or not you want to live this life. But people need to be happy in life.

    "You can change your mind about such things as attractions" You can never change your mind about which gender(s) you are attracted to, because your sexual orientation isn't a choice at all. "But what you fail to realise is that its not an attraction its called lust" No, what YOU fail to realize is that sexual orientation has nothing to do with lust, and homosexuality is a sexual orientation. Nobody is gay because they lust, but because that is how they were born.

    Just because this guy did not find solace in leaving the gay lifestyle, that does not mean it does not exist. It is real just as being gay. For those who do not want to be or live in the gay life/style, then they do have options. Being gay is a choice.

    @Romanee92 - Thank you! There really are so few Bible verses that homophobic bigots use to condemn homosexuals - all taken out of context or mistranslated. But almost all those who are severely homophobic are Gay themselves - and their anger and hatred comes from their own internal conflict, not from the Bible. As you say, we are doing God's work by helping each other and treating others as we would be treated. Love is the essence of Christian faith - not condemnation, not hatred. Thanks!

    @ChristianMission - The fact is that while some Bisexuals have found opposite sex lovers (at least for a time), Gay men - no matter how strongly motivated - have never been shown to change their sexual orientation. Even after torture, shock treatment, LSD, years of prayer, etc., no "treatment" has ever been found "successful" in one single person - but just the idea that such "treatment" is possible has driven hundreds (maybe thousands) of Gay people to suicide.

    @Atlavocat ,there's no definitive way to say homosexuality cannot be changed. Most of the medical profession is reluctant to engage in the required research probably out of fear of being de-certified and/or labeled homophobic. Robert Spitzer was condemned by the APA for his 2001 study which found at least some homosexuals can become heterosexual. It wasn't until 2003 that his study was published in a peer reviewed journal.

    @MrJay429 - Agreed. That reminds me of a trip I took to the Netherlands on a guided tour. The tour guide spoke several languages one after the other. I speak French and English, so I listened to both. The guide said that there was a tunnel which flowed under the river and that it did not cost anything. In French he should have said it was "gratuite" (the French word from which we get "gratuity"), instead he used the French word "libere" which means "liberated". I broke out laughing.

    No, I'm not religious since I am no longer forced into it, and I never claimed to be in my last post. I just find it amusing how just about every religious person picks & chooses or twists the words of holy books to suit their lifestyle. Yet they all say how they are so devout. Its not really possible to follow the bible to the letter with every scripture just "up for grabs" since everyone can interpret them any way they want to justify their actions.

    Victims of religious stigma. He's been told since he was a child that homosexuality is wrong and you go to hell if you're gay. Well what happens when he figures out that he is gay? Of course he's going to lash out and pretend to be something he's not. He's terrified. Not admitting that, however, is wrong. The fact that he got married is not fair to his wife and certainly not fair to himself. We should tell kids that it is OKAY to be yourself, and being gay is not wrong or a choice.

    Sadly, people, especially those of religious zealousy, view homosexuality as an insult to society and tradition, and our government has only done things to tell gay people, "You don't have the right to be married," and even going as far as BARRING gay couples from adopting on the baseless fear that the child in question might turn gay. Honestly, I don't think anyone can wake up one day and say, "I think I'll be gay today." It's something that you're born with, not deciding on.

Why is that so bad?!Just like being a sex-adict isn't a sin but having the self-control to not act on it is not self-abandonment, but standing up for what you believe.This guy isn't forcing this down anyone's throat. 2Timothy4vs5-the 2 Timothy verse that says "without natural affection" doesn't automatically mean homosexuality. Because the love b/w gays and straights are the same kinds of love. In fact that particular line in the verse is talking about a lack of love. You can see this if you look at NIV translations of the bible.

    Three main studies are cited by "gay rights" activists in support of their argument. Hamer's X-chromosome research, LeVay's study of the hypothalamus, and Bailey and Pillard's study of identical twins who were homosexuals. In all three cases, the researchers had a vested interest in obtaining a certain outcome because they were homosexuals themselves.

    People have sexual desires in reference to many different things. It is myopic to tell gays who desire to have normal heterosexual relationships that can not. It is about thinking different and accepting their sometimes unwelcome desires and learning to let them go and use the creativity of their imagination to help them find sexual desire for their female partner. It is a choice. Let them make it if they choose to.

  • @philnoll
    @philnoll 13 лет назад

    @IceKingXxxRS No, I'm not saying that. I'm merely suggesting that orientation might be shaped in some ways by your upbringing. You can't tell if someone is gay or straight until they hit adolescence. Its not as if the child comes out, and the doctor says "its a boy, and he's gay."

  • @christ87chic
    @christ87chic 16 лет назад

    I hate how Montel was distorting words to say what he wanted to say. Clearly, Exodus International does not say they have the ability to change a person's sexuality, but that they help by providing the resources to help a person walk away from homosexuality and experience freedom from homosexual tendencies. If he would have read further on their website,he would have understood and they have changed the statement since then, like Alan said.

  • @Stepback84
    @Stepback84 15 лет назад

    While I don't know about Exodus, people who WANT to change THEMSELVES with HELP have a RIGHT to seek it. The persistent theory that sexual orientation is immutable is DISINGENUOUS at best and psychologically HARMFUL at worst for some people. Research shows that sexuality is more Fluid than previously thought. Individuals who change and want change are being marginalized, invalidated and discriminated against. Options for self determination should not be smothered.

  • @Delticola

    What I don't understand is why people don't realize people are born gay. Many times, like in my brothers situation, people don't want to be gay. It's not a choice it's a chemistry within the body. Do your own survey, ask some gay people when they realized they were gay...............age 4, age 5, age 10, age 12 etc. etc. etc. And it has nothing to do with molestatation. Molestation doesn't "make" someone gay. Boys get molested and they grow up heterosexual. Gay people are born gay.

    @Neesharani Your missing my point. On what basis do we judge what is moral and what is immoral? Why is human life more important than animal life? On what basis do we determine if an action is an act of kindness or an act of barbarism? Wasn't Nazism concerned with the well-being of the majority of the Germans? Isn't it more beneficial for the evolution of mankind to make the strong stronger than to keep the weak alive?

    Any decent Bible reader, should know that you have to know the history of what's going on when the particular verse was written in order to understand it. First of all, Effeminate IS a term referring to pedophiles making children become their sexual partners. It has nothing to do with simply being gay. Paul never makes a remark about loving homosexual relationships, only the homosexual practices that are promiscuous, and pedophiliac. There's always deeper meanings for the verses in the Bible.

I never said they didn't have the right...I said they do, and you agree. And you are correct, no one should be forced into it. I respect self-determination. Besides, no therapy is very effective if the person does not want it. There are multiple pathways (etiologies) to homoeroticism and some people can experience change.

    @ChristianMission - It is much easier to change one's race or religion than to change one's sexual orientation. At some point one has to decide if it's ethical to even try. Most professional societies have decided that it's not ethical - not only because it does not work - but because it causes more psychological damage than any potential benefit.

    @idaman12345 I don't know why I'm gay. I spent years trying to analyze it, but none of it added up. I know I was attracted differently to men/boys when I was even as young as 4. At this point, the "why" doesn't matter. Spent 13 years trying to change it, didn't change a thing, except made me more obsessed with sex outside of any other tenderness (which became threatening). My most pathetic behavior was when I was the deepest in self-hate, and it took years to undo those scars.

    While the process is much more complicated than what I'm about to state I'm sure, scientists have found that generally, testosterone plays a big part in creating sexuality in females AND males.

    When, in my post, did I say that being gay is a bad thing? I'm bisexual, and I don't think I was programmed that way by accident.

    Homosexuality is a moral issue, not a civil one.

    As I've written before, bestiality is animal abuse. Humans can be intimate with eachother regardless of sexual orientation because they are able to consent.
    You're starting to repeat yourself, have you run out of arguments?

    ...like twenty times... my pastor wants me to go to such a "organization". I thank Motel for standing up and revealing these half-truths and lies. I mean all it takes, as Montel clearly reveals, is common sense!!!

    liberation doesn't mean change, unless you changing your adress. Liberation can bring about change, but it doesn't mean change.

    There's no need for society to pool its wealth to establish an "insurance" racket so that a small percentage of the citizenry can secure medical treatment. Costs are prohibitively high because of red tape: licensing, record-keeping, taxes & so forth. The government has no Constitutional authority to forbid, nor to regulate, private contracts made between doctors & their patients.

    See, as educated he sounds... it's still ridiculous!
    He treats it as if your sexual orientation is something you choose. You don't choose if chocolate tastes good to you. You don't choose if you are flexible enough to touch your toes. And you most certainly do not choose to be attracted to either women or men.

    "God doesnt deal in lust Satan does" I agree, but what does lust have to do with homosexuality? "people lust after cars, women, shoes" What does people lusting after these things have to do with sexual orientation? "didn't you notice that sins only lead to more sin" Sure, but what do sins have to do with homosexuality? I'm a lesbian, so what sins have I been lead to?

    @October31st1517 - I have never, ever had any sexual attraction to a female. My first memories were of boys that I found attractive and exciting - even though I knew nothing about sex and considered (what I heard about) it "yucky". When I reached puberty I changed my mind about the sex part. A naked woman has never meant anything to me, a shirtless cute guy has always raised my blood pressure, heartbeat and shortened my breath tremendously. I've never had a heterosexual thought.

    I agree with some parts. Nowadays people treat their bodies like filth. I die a little inside when a beautiful woman, whose body is Holy and a temple, let any man or men enter it. It's sick. I believe in a "Creator" because I have experienced love, and I know it's real. That's something science could never explain.

    This is really pitiful, I think it's better to accept yourself and be happy rather than try to force homosexuality out of him. It's a shame we can't all be more open minded and tolerant

    @MrMatthew554 - I'm not sure what you're trying to say. But people who are emotionally insecure often feel like they are getting "unwanted" same sex sexual attractions, but in fact their paranoia is based on their own same-sex sexual desire. Gay couples are just as capable of having deep long-lasting fulfilling relationships as much straights. I now know more Gay couples who have been faithful and together for more that twenty years than straight couples.
