After the drummer, Rick, lost his arm in a car accident, he relearned to play all their music on electric drums, using his one arm & feet more than a regular drummer would.
To show you how tight this band is, when Rick lost his arm, his band mates didn't give up on him. They took a break until Rick could play again. And Rick worked his butt off to not let his band mates down.
@@donnathomas2567 the point of my comment wasn't to explain HOW Rick lost his arm. It was to point out that the band could have dumped him and found a new drummer. Instead, they stuck by him. Because of that (at least partially), Rick worked his tail off to be able to still support the band as their drummer. They are a very tight-knit group.
Awesome band with resilience. My sister was lucky enough to meet them back in the 90s. It was one of the highlights of her life when Rick Allen signed his autographed he put a little stick figure of a one armed man it was incredible! I love watching people overcoming challenges. My sister had many of them as she was injured at three and a near drowning accident that left her a quadriplegic. Sadly, she passed away a few years ago at her service. We sang amazing grace, and gave God the glory for freeing her of all her worldly challenges but when we walked out of the church, we had this song playing! And when we received all the guess everyone came to us with a huge smile on their face, because they knew she was loving some Def Leppard at her service!
@@melissavail5706 Awesome memory of your sister and how Rick honored her. I too have lost too many family and friends. It is my memories of them that make me happy, as I'm sure your memories of your sister make you happy. I really don't have any words to go further, but I'm sure you know what I mean. 🙂
I know that.and yes I totally agree with you and I really love watching ur reactions I'm sorry that you misunderstood me have very blessed day I wished the where still together they were a really awesome band
Rick Allen was in a car accident and lost his arm. Def Leppard did not abandon him and gave him all the time he needed to recover, and learn how to play drums again in a different way. They are a special band
He has 2 good legs and a good arm. No prosthetics or anything like that. Pure determination. He worked HARD to get back where he is, and he is bloody amazing.
Rick Allen is called the Thunder God. He had a car accident & the band refused to replace him. They waited until he learned how to do it one handed & designed his own electric drums & he uses both feet too. Those guy understand friendship & loyalty, over money. The got more famous after his accident.
His drum kit is made with foot pedals so his left foot can do what the left arm use to do. Took him a few years to get past surgery and then to relearn how to drum again. The band quit touring and waited for Rick Allen. That says a lot about this band. They are still touring and are amazing!!!!
This is a strip club standard. Around the WORLD!! Def Leopard was the arena show to see mid to late 80’s. My sisters-in-law was a dancer at Tattletales in Atlanta. They came to town 2 days early and hit the clubs. She wound up spending 3 days with the bass player after her first dance. He even payed the club for her 72 hour call out.
Queen vibes indeed. They are very good friends with surviving members of queen. And Rick never played this song with 2 arms. Lost arm before this album was recorded.
Hey guys! I saw this concert tour in 1987 and it was awesome! This is their first tour after Rick Allen lost his arm. I still can't get over the fact that Def Leppard's DRUMMER LOST HIS ARM and instead of kicking him out of the band, they had a custom drum kit built for him and waited for him to recover and learn to play it before going back on tour. Contrast that with Journey when Steve Perry needed hip replacement surgery, after they released their album with the song When You Love A Woman in 1997, and made the decision to find another lead singer instead of waiting on him. They're nothing but a cover band to me now, but that's a story for another day! I've seen Def Leppard several times over the year and they're rocking it out better than ever, and they're the best dressed band in rock & roll! Loved the reaction
100% Journey members have gone out of their way to paint Steve Perry as a diva, troublemaker who is solely responsible for the band failing. I've met Perry twice, in Hanford CA where he grew up and I lived for years. Nice, VERY nice man. Not to say he might not have been difficult to work with, but the fact is that Journey never would have gone anywhere is not for Steve "The Voice" Perry so he earned respect that the group didn't want to give him. That's my take on it, anyway.
@@SharonLathanNovelist And maybe if he _was_ difficult to work with, he had a reason, like the BLATANT disrespect. Imagine dumping Steve Perry as a vocalist and then blaming him when the band fails. @@SharonLathanNovelist the band knew they couldn't make it without Steve so they found their new lead singer who sounds a lot like him. It's never good for a band to lose their front man, because most of the time that's the person the fans most identify with. One of the only bands to be able to get away with a lead singer change was Van Halen when they hired Sammy Hagar after David Lee Roth left. Because Sammy already had a solo career and was well known, he was already more accepted before they released their first album. They went on with Hagar to create a whole new sound and era of Van Halen. Journey just tried to cover their same old songs with a different lead singer, and those of us who are Perry fans turned our backs.
Rick Allen, the drummer, lost his arm when he was 21. He'd been with the band since he was 15. At the height of their success, they waited until he healed and re-taught himself how to play. He has a special kit, in which his left pedal could emulate what his left arm could do. He still suffers PTSD from the accident to this day and sees drumming and painting as therapeutic healing for him.
this one song has been in hundreds of movies and commercials; everyone in America has heard it and everyone remembers that chorus!! and yes, Def Leppard has that Queen live concert vibe!!

Supposedly, when Rick had his accident and the arm wasn’t able to be saved due to rejection, Rick told that he could still play. Band told him that he wasn’t going to be replaced unless he said so. At one point Def Leppard was the biggest band in the world. The first 3 albums put them on the map. But during Christmas break on the Pyromania tour, drummer Rick Allen went home for the holidays. While driving his Corvette in rural England, he lost control and rolled the car. The seatbelt took his right arm off. Rick Allen, the one armed drummer, is the definition of "Dont give up". Btw... George Jones who's gonna fill their shoes
Hi Fammmmm!!! ❤
I once met Def Leppard drummer Rick Allen! I found him to be rather disarming! That's about all...
Wait…people haven’t heard this song???
I used to be a Def Lepard fan, but the lead singer and his ego changed my mind, he says that every big "HAIR BAND/ HARD ROCK BAND" from the 80's all copied Def Lepard, I saw them in concert, VH-1 CLASSICS tour after HURRICANE 🌀 KATRINA in New Orleans, The band was great, singer was terrible!!!!
They don't make music like that anymore.
Ah yes, making out to this song in high school😅
These guys were already huge and getting bigger when the drummer Rick, lost his arm in a car accident. Against external pressure, they refused to move forward without him and waited while Rick healed, had a new drum kit designed, and re learned how to play. Then they went on to become arena rock gods.
