I recently picked up Purple Rain 4k (with slip) for $13, Point Break 4K (with slip) for $11, John Wick Chapter 4 4K (with slip) for $10, The Crow 4K (with slip) for $15, and a dozen others, all in the past 3 months. Anyone overpaying just doesn't know how to spot a deal. But hey, Horror fans love paying $80 for one release, so those will only get more and more expensive. My tip for newbies: buy standard editions. You don't need lobby cards and other extras.
I think I've just reached the point where I'm going to buy the uber mega editions for movies I really care about (like the Trick or Treat one that just went up), the rest can be standard editions like you were saying.
Physical media will probably never be as big as the boom time. But I'll continue to go for it. It will always appeal to a niche market.
I will always buy physical media over streaming services or digital counterparts you don’t own or have control of how you watch or play
