Actually Malibu Barbie is very beloved and iconic. She saved Mattel during the 70s oil crisis. They found a way to cheaply produce the first beach Barbie line that was simplistic, yet turned out a huge success. Malibu Barbie had many friends, numerous sets, (a swimming pool, motorhome, and many more). Malibu Barbie went on from early 70's til the end of the decade. She got three reproductions. In comparison, Totally Hair only got one.
While this isn’t my favorite era of Barbie, I do think that this one is pretty. I would gladly take this over what we are getting now. I actually have the one that you got in the pink dress. She is such a stunner. I love how they weren’t afraid to play with make up back then. It was so dramatic and fun. And I will say this. I love how glamorous and hyper feminine this era was. The clothes, especially are some of my favorites.
omg PLEASE I would be ecstatic if MyScene came back!!! I've always thought those dolls were so gorgeous and elegant. Their proportions toe the line so beautifully between exaggeration and realism, and I can't help but be drawn to them. It makes me sad that they've kinda gotten buried because of their whole rivalry with Bratz. They deserve more recognition in their own right.
2005 sculpt is underrated. Miles better than Millie Sculpt. 2005 sculpt has the best make up screening, glittery make ups and very chic and also well rooted hair.
I might be controversial but I personally really love the 2006 face used on teresa, I would even say it’s best era for teresa, the summer face is ever close though.
I have olympic gymnast malibu barbie reproduction i got 2 years ago. When kmart close. I really like her and even got a blue material to make her bathing suit.
When I first saw the hair on those dolls I thought there was no way you would be able to restore them but you did an amazing job, they look like new again! I'm unfamiliar with this Barbie face, it looks very of it's time (early 2000s), although that will partly be due to the make up too.
I loved this review, mainly because I have an obsessive and very serious fascination with restoration and repair. This review was also wonderful in proving that the quality of Barbie has, in fact fallen. I love your analysis of the head sculpts and why some were popular and others were not. I love your channel and you always do a wonderful job!😊
Great video! I have been mainly focusing on 80's 90's Barbies but if I ever seen the 2005-2008 ones, I would definitely add her to my collection. Also very cool that you rebodied Odile with a 90's body. I have come to appreciate that body as well. Love watching you talk about dolls!
I like any era over what we have been getting the last 7 or 8 years 😬 the hair is so bad it’s legitimately embarrassing and such an insult to the Barbie brand!! The clothes quality don’t even get me started on that and the cheap hollow plastic bodies 😂 I don’t buy any newer dolls unless it’s the extra line
I grew up in the 2000s but mostly had Barbie movie princesses, mermaids and fairies I considered Barbie essentially a fairytale doll rather than a fashion doll, I didn't even know the Fashion Fever line existed and in fact I don't remember the Barbies from 2006-2008 at all except the ones from the movies I started getting interested in fashion-based Barbies when I was 10, but my favorites were the beach ones and at that time I started learning about the history of Barbie and fell in love with the vintage ones, especially the ones from the 60s and 70s, when my father gave me the reproduction of the Malibu Barbie, she became one of my favorite Barbies and still is
Definitely true, these things go in cycles, I'm also into collecting Videogames and nostalgia for Atari Games peaked in the early 2000s and now nobody cares about them at all.
I think we all get attached to the dolls we grew up with. I was born in 69, but had an older sister, so the first dolls I remember were Busy Hands Barbie, Talking Barbie (brunette), Francie, Stacie/Casey, Malibu, and growing Skipper. When I was given the Superstar Barbie, I hated it - *that* was not Barbie. Oddly enough, I didn't have that feeling about Malibu Barbie - I accepted her, maybe because I'd stolen my mom's swirl ponytail, and just figured it was her without makeup lol. I think Malibu gets overlooked because she was so simple, no gimmicks, not even extra clothes, like the original dolls. It's often cheaper to get an OG Malibu than it is to get a repro! Enjoyed your content and thoughts :)
Random: I never understood why the closed mouth FF sculpt is marked as 2005 on the back of the head - when it wasn’t seen on literally any Barbie doll until 3 years later in 2008 😆 Because all of the FF closed mouth dolls you showed in the video are actually from 2008, not from 2005. 2005 was still all about inflated balloon GG & Fashion Fever tube box mackies. I think 2007/2008 were transition years for Barbie, where they got ready for her 50th anniversary and 2009-2014 branding.
The 2005 face is pretty but my only issue with it is how flat it looks. Especially the closed mouth version but it could be the screening but I don't know. I don't hate it tho. You did a good job with the clean up! Their hair looks great!
The thing about the Malibu era is Mattel kept re-releasing pretty much the same exact doll for much of the 1970s. I can think of at least 4 reproductions of her. I do think the Teen Talk sculpt is highly underrated.
Her Fashion fever dolls are so much prettier with amazing clothes and accessories! than the current Barbies and even more beautiful than the current collector's ones, today the only ambition of Mattel and to surf on nostalgia to generate more money... I really have the feeling that they really take their customers for pigeons.... Everything for money and no creative and qualitative talent it's sad...
I completely disagree with the fact that Malibu Barbie was not well received by consumers. Actually, she was an instant hit among fans and she kept Mattel on board during the oil crisis from the early 70's. Malibu Barbie was produced and re-released from 1971 until 1978 due to her big success in sales with various versions and factory variants which make her so bast and so fascinating. Aside from the dolls no longer being manufactured in Japan, Malibu Barbie was the last series of dolls made in Japan. The dolls were not the only the main success for Mattel at the time, but the pool playset, the camper for the beach, the sport-themed gimmicks, and the fashion sets that were created during this era are still beautiful and iconic to this day even though they were not high quality like they used to be previous the oil crisis when Mattel used to create custom printed petroleum based fabrics and polyesters. For the reproductions that had been released over these years, the only one that looks the best is the one that was released in 2001 but still doesn't capture the entire beauty of an original one (the ones made in Japan, of course) I really like the high-quality hair Mattel used on her because it was a good Saran hair and wasn't only one shade of blonde, she had a mixture of different shades that give her an upgrade, the swimsuit was so beautifully tailored and had that nostalgic embroidered tag that used to say "Barbie Collectibles". The only miss on this reproduction was the glasses that were not a replica of the original "Bubble Glasses".
-Vanish Oxi Action, any Type of oxiclean will do, the importance is the bubbles that's where the cleaning agent activates -Fairy washing up liquid -Toothbrush medium bristle -White sponge/mr clean magic eraser -Have the hair be soaked in the bubbles then try to brush the color out -you can try it multiple times Hope that helps 🙃☺️💖 it always depends on what the color was, i was lucky it wasn't anything super permanent
I do like some of the Barbie dolls from the 80s slide peaches and cream Barbie the second release of Barbie and the Rockers the one with the curly hair in front I think she looks absolutely pretty Bob Barbie now she is incredibly ugly she looks in cranberry cheap she lost what made Barbie Barbie with a big puffy white hair and her beautiful gowns that have a strange gimmick to them whatever it is analogy stars now have any articulation
Wow i love this sculpt of Barbie idc people used to hate it, i don't own her but remember gifting my niece one gorgeous Barbie of this sculpt i definitely want one now, you did a great job restoration of both of them.🩷

Yeah, but out of all the desirable vintage dolls on Mercari, she is usually the cheapest and still take a long time to sell.

I love Malibu Barbie 💓 she's beautiful
Malibu Barbie is one of my favorite faces 😭 (original though, the repro’s never capture her face correctly)
The face mold looks better on her friend Stacey, who was the first doll to use the mold.
That is one of my favorite face molds too. Not sure why he thinks it was a flop, it's iconic!
The reason I follow your channel is that I always learn something.
I LOVED those faces tho , they we're really pretty
2005 sculpt is underrated. Miles better than Millie Sculpt. 2005 sculpt has the best make up screening, glittery make ups and very chic and also well rooted hair.
Finally! I don't like Millie sculpt. her mouth is too wide.

I know it's like magic that's why I love to restore dolls with that Hair fiber so much.

Is that Britney and Tiffany Wilson? The Wilson twins! 👯 omg! I remember those dolls. Thx 🙏 for your video I enjoyed.
Woah I never knew Teen Talk Barbie was a new face!

I doubt 2000s is nostalgic yet. We always like 30 years ago, so the 90s are making their comeback now.

@@dontcallmedoll I still do. I just watched a video about the never produced Atari 3200. It was to compete with Intellivision.

Probably the mould was made back then but not used for production until years later...
@@ThatGuyGabeToo Yeah exactly. It‘s really interesting how long it took for them use/reveal it.
Love that deep voice!❤ thanks for showing. Always.🙌👡💅
I loved my Malibu. It was my first Barbie.
Great job on restoring those 2 dolls ! Very pretty.
I actually love that mold ngl I prefer the closed mouth 😭I actually have them semi complete I love them

You gave new life to those thrifted Barbies! How satisfying.
I wld GLADLY take these 👡👡👡instead of what we get today🤮as well, you got that right!
Beautiful makeover! Quality is fantastic!

The Malibu Barbie of the 70s looks like a cheap budget doll from a five and ten cents store sold in a plastic bag with printed card header
I think you did a great job! What a beautiful American Girl!
yeees why did everyone hate them they had quality

Summer aka Teresa
🤗♥️😍🖤🎈🔥🎉
I only like the Malibu face because i had her when i was too young to care. i can see how she is not the prettiest, now.
Teen Talk is not pretty imo.
