@@microbios8586 I think that is clearly an opinion. How do you place a non-value on something that makes a person happy? Where u see no value, somebody else does. It is no different than a person collecting fine art. Just looking at it can inspire and bring joy. Especially if there is nostalgia attached to it. I feel you have spoken as a true non collector and unless you collect, i do not expect you to understand. I teach high school, and one of the things I do is specifically mention that I collect fashion dolls (Monster High, Ever After High, Rainbow High). And when one of the "too cool" kids asks why, I tell them because I like them and I have money now to buy the things I like. One of the perks of being an adult is you can have that discretionary income, and there's no parent telling you that you're "too old" to play with toys. The kids who still like toys get me, and we have a point of connection. The kids who think it's cringe chalk it up to the fact that I'm a geek - something I also tell them on the first day of class - and it's another geeky thing about their teacher. Win-win. And I get to play with my dolls to destress after work.

Escapism and nostalgia is definitely the main reason that I turned to doll collecting. Also as you mentioned some of us simply weren't allowed to have certain toys when we were growing up because of the outdated idea of dolls being for girls etc. The world is literally on fire at the moment - and not in a good way - a lot of us fear the future so escaping for a couple of hours with toys that we remember from our childhood is incredibly beneficial.

I missed My Scene, So in Style, Fashion Fever, early fashionistas, generation girls. Literally the entire golden age of Barbie releases. I collect nowadays, but have to put considerably more effort into customization to have the collection half as good as those releases. This isn’t a new thing actually. Tabletop games were invented for adults. Miniature war tabletop games like Warhammer, wich is a huge fandom have their roots in century old tabletop cavalry and infantry strategy games that were set up at parties, gentlemen clubs etc. And those were for adults and very strategic. The small toys soldiers for boys came out of those games. Fathers gave sons a few soldiers to play with, as the son of course wanted to play too but was too young. Eventually manufacturers started producing soldiers specially for boys to play with.
Intricate dollhouses were originally a bonding project of mother and daughter. The mothers were very invested in arranging the perfect little rooms. Most of these dollhouses weren’t even intended for kids to play with, as they were too precious. Kids playing with dollhouses came later. Those tabletop games and dollhouses were family heirlooms. And we can all imagine the kids begging to play with them. So eventually kids versions were made. The toy industry like we know it has its roots in the Victorian era. From there it grew to its peak in the 1990s with massive, beautiful toy stores like seen in home alone. With less and less kids playing with toys and preferring Tablets and other digital media, adults will only become a bigger focus of toys again.

My sis was 4tunate with my grandparents’ love so she gets toys that connects her with her youth. I was raised migrated & in a poor household so I get toys I never got. I finally told her, "I don't think a child is going to want a 20-30 year old toy. I know I wouldn't have when I was a kid." That finally shut her up for now. Really need to go low contact from her [I'm 37]. She's becoming more and more of a bully as she's getting older.
Hell, that's why I got rid of my treasured Barbie collection in my early 20s because I lived with her and she kept bullying me constantly about having childhood things and having too much stuff. All of my Barbie items fit in just one of those plastic containers. Really think it was just trying to find a way to steal any type of joy from me.

Another example is like people when growing up their parents guardians I can't afford anything especially living a apartment for rental housing like i didn't get my Nintendo 3DS until I was 13 by then the Nintendo switches was out I didn't get it until tax return money because the pandemic has started when I was young I always wanted a Barbie dream house but I live in a two-bedroom apartments at the time me and my brother had to share a bed in my sister was born she was on the NICU I don't remember if my parents paid anything or insurance after she got better then we moved to a rental house and got kicked out for some reason likely for having the house dirty because we were so busy my brother played soccer at a time so we basically in and out school put physically have to drive like 24 minutes get the to my hometown to go to school and I was also in my therapy for my mental disabilities as well we were busy and now we're moving to three bedroom apartment now and saving money much as we can pay off debt turn off all the house I'm either going to get a job or get money from the government since I'm on welfare for me my mom was on the program but not anymore she works now that's my problem another example is that people who living in toxic environments I heard about the parents throwing kids toys away really sad to see now I collect Pokemon cards and plushies things like that I have over the years I'm 20 this September I'm not going to stop you cannot charge no one's hobby you never know what they will do in the past

I think it's rather 'CRINGE' to judge just because everyone wants to make fun of everyone else. As an adult I have the money to buy what I want...and I will buy what I want because I feel like it, and whoever has an issue with it can go stuff-it! Growing up, I couldn't afford to buy what I REALLY wanted, so now that I have a job and money left over after bills and savings...I'll buy all the toys I want, for me. 🥳 🎉

I've been collecting action figures since I was a kid. Honestly, you are just an ingredient normie. Action figures are also made for adult collectors like hot toys or play arts kai, etc.

I think it's wrong that we set an age limit on play when it is scientifically proven to be beneficial at all ages. I do worry that some people are just chasing that dopamine rush, buying stuff that will just sit and judge them later as it crowds out any room for contentment, that they may be buying irresponsibly, or that they are using it as a coping mechanism. There have always been toy collectors, I just think due to social media, the pandemic scare, and young people more willing than any other generation since the 70s to fight against "social norms", it has become more widely acknowledged and seen as an acceptable option. Makes sense that boomers taught to "stop acting like a child" at age 5 and start taking on household responsibilities, see this as a weakness or fault - it was beaten into them that they had to fit molds.

Unless an adult is pushing others out of the way or grabbing toys/plushies out of someone's arms/basket... Who cares?
If there is no harm being done then why should anyone care about what anyone else is doing?
People have many reasons for a lot of things and just because youre an adult doesnt mean you have to stop enjoying simple/small joys. What may seem unnecessary or 'cringe' to other people may bring a lot of joy to someone else.
The world needs to let people have their own joys again. As long as that joy isnt causing hurt/suffering/disturbance to others, then lets just let others be happy :)
Besides, the people who throw shame about others are usually just trying to hide their own shame they have about something else.
Lets all just be happy again. World sucks enough as it is.
