With other people coming out saying they reviewed the game after 30 hours (or 60 on the high end) - this is why I love Noisy Pixel. They actually seem to love gaming, and will put in the extra effort to review something instead of just rushing through it.
Yes! Way too many reviewers rushing out their shallow takes on games. I don't listen to them unless they finished the game or at least with a huge game like ff16 got deep into it

Its inconsistency is why people love it. Much like the Zelda series, which tries something different with each new game, it's not afraid to experiment.
I loved this game so much that I typed up a 2,200 word essay review about it, but to condense that, I'll just post the opening and ending paragraphs here.
Final Fantasy XVI is one of the most divisive games in the franchise to date, but is also one of the absolute best as well. A game that on the surface looks like it has almost nothing in common with Final Fantasy of old due to its "M" rating, graphic violence, Game of Thrones influenced dark fantasy setting and Devil May Cry styled action combat, but as you advance deeper into the game, peeling these layers away, you reach the heart of Final Fantasy XVI which is one of the purest Final Fantasy experiences in over 2 decades that in many ways captures the soul of the SNES era of Final Fantasy (Especially IV and VI) and feels like a massive love letter to the series roots while adding its own modern and mature flair to it as well.
When all is said and done Final Fantasy XVI is truly an epic journey from start to finish in every sense of the word, excelling in every single possible element the game has to offer providing one of the best narratives I've ever experienced in a video game with an incredibly detailed and immersive world to learn about starring a rich cast of well written and realistic characters in no small part thanks to its incredible side quests and masterclass voice acting performances. All topped off with an enjoyable combat system and mind-blowing boss fights which is all only enhanced thanks to the truly next-gen visuals, sound and production values overall alongside a masterfully composed OST too. Some people say XVI isn't a true Final Fantasy and to that I will just say that Final Fantasy XVI reminded me what a mainline Final Fantasy at its best has always been about. A mind-blowing, generation defining experience that will stick with you for life.

YES!!!!! Someone compared this to FF2. This is exactly how I felt about ff16 story. The demo reminds me of FF2.
I think the darkness of Final Fantasy 16's story (and its grandiose/political themes) are in line with Final Fantasy 2's story myself. Many people have claimed that Final Fantasy since its inception has had trouble establishing a solidified identity, but I finder it has variably oscillated between lighter and whimsical (FF1, FF3, FF5, FF9) and varying degrees of "mature mature" or even "edgier" (FF2, FF4, FF6, FF7, FF8). I think what also works in Final Fantasy 16's favor was that so many fans loved the story and world of Final Fantasy Tactics (the Ivalice universe), so it helped that they got the same people to help develop FF16's world and story for a newer generation.

Ultimaniac mode is a lot of fun. Totally agreed. I think it reveals the quality of the design of combat and stages. I haven't heard other videos covering that.
The difficulty challenges the player to use abilities reactively to enemy setup and their moves. And through trial and error, I start to appreciate how the dungeons are set up in its sequence. Because it took me many attempts to clear just one stage, the game world actually feels larger and rewarding.
Man, this game looks so amazing. Benedikta is so cool. The swearing, sex, gore, new direction for the series - it's for us lifelong fans that are now, 30, 40, 50+ and I'm here for it.
Buying a PS5 and this game this weekend, can't wait.

Game looks great but is it really considered a JRPG? Like when i think of JRPG i think of something like Persona or older FF titles. I really don't see any of the RPG aspects in this game, If anything its more akin to something like Dark Souls, Except Souls has alot more RPG aspects to it. So far i really haven't seen much of any RPG aspects to XVI, So i don't really see how its even considered an action RPG, Idk why people arent just calling it an action/adventure game. It feels just cause it's a FF title people feel they have to label it a JRPG.
im p far into the game and yeah it’s an rpg, at first i thought the same as you but as the game progresses it opens up a lot and is more of an rpg than a lot of other recent ff titles.
120 hours!! Now that's what i like to hear! That's how you play an FF title. Not rush through the story with all the difficulty set to easy like all these other reviewers. For any first timers in the comments, really immerse yourself in the story, the lore, the characters, actually dive into the world.
I LOVE that it seems like games are returning to their over the top wild ass ways. Sonic had a bad ass game. Dmc, now ff16 I’m here for it all

Devil May Cry + Game of Thrones = This
Really loved this game, the story and combat are just perfect. I even enjoy the side quest,yes they are bare and not rewarding, but they very informative. Every time I complete a side quest, I know more about Valisthea, which is something I really appreciate, because the main story just make me want to know more about this world
how dark is the story? cause the older I get the less I have a tolerance for disturbing shit and I keep hearing how edgy this game is for an FF.

It's probably not as dark as you might have expected. It's much better compared to 'Game of Thrones' or 'Berserk,' but the beginning is indeed a bit depressing, it will gradually get better though.@@chapterblaq
You didnt mention that in new game plus the enemies aren't just leveled up to yours but there are different mini bosses and enemies in area
Appreciate the Comparisions to KH. Feels like a lot of reviews only seem to have some cursory comparisons to DMC, if any knowledge at all of other action games. How did you guys find the combat compared to FF7R?

@@thegamewin100That criticism is rather strange as well because FFX had long unstoppable cutscene's and dialogue before boss battles. Atleast in 16 you can skip cutscene's.
This is a very good review, pros and cons were well developed and they actually took the time to play through everything the game had to offer. Wish more reviewers actually did that.
In a recent interview, the ending of the game and other specific things in the game has been taken into consideration for the development team. Yoshi is aware of these issues and will aim to provide an even further improved experience, so i think we can accept some DLC in the future.
My question has always been
Where are the RPG aspects?
Are there meaningful dialogue choices?
Are there different endings?
Are there different builds? What about a good skill tree?
The problem with many many many JRPG games is that they aren't RPGs at all. While western RPG games lack proper gameplay, JRPG games lack the RPG part.
This game probably would be a much better game without side quests and instead presented as another character action game like devil may cry with a short campaign.
It's a glorified action adventure game

The game isn't an RPG, a JRPG nvm an FF JRPG.
Forgettable button mash fodder, designed for adhd western gamers who need to button mash for +100 hours to justify the price.
Thanks for giving a review from a perspective of someone wanting to enjoy the experience and not be the first post. I don't doubt other reviewers are genuine in their thoughts but most I've seen are story focused and minimal side content. I'm beyond hyped and have been, glad I won't be disappointed. Hoping this is my personal GoTY.

Playing for several hours so far and I have to say that visuals/fps in the performance mode could have been polished even more. They should allow for a 40fps mode with higher resolution and consistency than the performance mode. Why does the music not fade out properly when there is a scene transition and just cuts off? Always allow for more polish.

There is a flood of troll reviews basically shit posting this game. Please do NOT believe these reviews and most of them are even written before the games release. Its unfortante that we the real fans have to deal with this crap but thank god for Noisy Pixel that provides a well though-out and analytical break down of the positives and negatives of the game, Keep up the good work.
It's kinda funny cuz I'd say it's an underwhelming RPG but still an incredible game on its own, arguably my favorite in the series.

Final Fantasy mode/new game plus adds different mobs and enemy types in different spots as well.
JRPG used to mean team based, deep turn based combat in a story and character rich environment. Now it means whatever is popular for modern audiences

It's good to get a solid review for this game, even though as a Final Fantasy fan, a numbered entry is always a must-buy no matter what in my eyes.
Every Final Fantasy game is different and gives a different experience. Even with flaws, every game is unique and worth it.
I especially noticed this by playing the old pixel games (FF1-6). Every single one is great.
And anyway...They come out what, every 10 years/decade? Along with Zelda, it's one of these franchises I just purchase instantly.
For me Final Fantasy is more than gameplay, I play these games for the emotions, the characters, and the memories it leaves in me.
I still remember playing FF7, FF8, and FF10 as a kid. Very few franchises leave an impact on gamer memories like that.
This is the strength of that franchise.
How does a game come out every decade when the first one released in '87 and there is now 16 of them....

I only got a PS5 recently - for FF7 Rebirth - I'm pleasantly surprised at how utterly fantastic and epic FFXVI is! Rebirth next week, but what a great game to play in the meantime! Given that we have so much choice, I really don't mind releases like Stranger of Paradise, or an action-oriented mainline title like FFXVI...if the likes of FF7 remake wasn't also being released, then I'd have some concern about the lack of RPG-centric FF games.
At least the Assist Rings are visually apparent and you have to sacrifice slots for them so it works out.

It's a single character Action rpg. They've never marketed the game as anything but that.
Are there any superbosses? Like level 100-120 boss fights that further challenge the players?

Or are all of the stronger enemies just variants of the enemies you normally encounter? I’d be slightly disappointed if the strongest enemy is just another variant of the enemies you’ve fought earlier.

I'm still not convinced.
It's not even about being a turn-based or live action combat, the combat system seems limited with the same moves and a dodge command. The staggering effect looks boring and at times make a formidable foe look weak.
I know some gamers have mentioned more combos open up as the game progresses, but looking at the skills they all look very similar. Compare it to past FF games, each ability looks very different, and the higher level the magic, the more graphical.
The lack of diversity and selectable characters and weapons isnt what a FF game should be. Like, I don't want to play as a swordman, I want to be a mage (with blue, white, and black magic). All I see in FF16 is Clive shooting measly fireballs.
On the part where Marlboro come in, was hoping it would inflict some status aliments but I'd guess without other playable party members to support the healing, they took away that aspect. There are also no esther nor MP count, free unlimited magic usage, bravo!
The story was by far interesting and was probably the only thing that kept me wanting to find out more about the game.
Weren't impressed with the Eikon battle neither. It looked rigid and just weren't good with the lack of control.
Glad I did not buy into the hype.
In fact, I recommend checking out Chrono Odyssey. The live action combat looks more polished with better in game physics. Not to mention its a MMORPG with multiple role-playing selections.

This just feels like a way better final fantasy game than 15. Open world dont make a game better and this game they did a fantastic job developing it, square enix is on a roll since the 2020 remake of ff7

Great to hear that this game checks mostly all the boxes. Something a lot of recents haven't been able to. Also glad you didn't make a big deal out of FPS, people complain too much about that now.
Man oh man i picked this game up on sale and loved it in the beginning but IMO it doesn’t have legs. I felt I’ve master the combat but once I hit 20 plus hour mark I’m getting bored. Story is starting to drag, customizing is non existent, I have a ton of money and crafting materials but nothing to make or spend it on. Nothing to really explore either…Is there something I’m missing? I couldn’t imagine spending 120 hours on this. I’m now racing to each objective to get through campaign. I think I’m becoming a cranky gamer when it comes to my time haha. Great review btw love the detail.

Reviews like these are the reason Metacritic is useless. You can't trust a The Gamer Review after breezing a game on extra easy, while Noisy Pixel spend 100+ hours feeling every nook and cranny

For some reason I saved this video until I finished the whole thing.
A great game, despite it's shortcomings, which sadly as has been the case lately, includes a bad translation.
That end though, to me, was top tier.
As well as one of the final boss fights where I've had the most fun in a while.

Waiting for the game to install right now. I'm pretty excited this sounds like one of the most interesting stories to me personally.
I watched a lot of reviews so far and this is the only one that has not liked the ending. I do like how most of the reviews are varied, unlike with many games where it seems people just copy pasted each others reviews.

As much as I don't want to admit it. This is the most balanced review I've seen so far. Your reviews carry more weight with me than IGN.
It's a solid game but there are 2 things that bring the experience down for me.
1. No party system
2. Dion.
I'd give it 8.5.
I'm having alot of fun with the game. It's pretty dang good. Story is good. Combat is good. Every fight seems like a boss fight. Which are way cooler to experience for yourself. One thing I wish they would do. Is with the limit break. Once its maxed out to 4 bars.. instead of a semi prime which is still cool. But it would be cooler if Clive could summon the eikons in battle even if it's just once per battle. Other then that. Game is awsome. Cant wait for final fantasy rebirth. Happy gaming.

Here's hoping for a patch that increases the difficulty level of Final Fantasy Mode! I probably won't be playing until a PC release, so fingers crossed it'll be a bit more challenging at the end of the year.
Pc release won't be out until atleast end of next yr, as said by director of the game.
It has a ng+ called final fantasy mode where the difficulty requires you to be really good.
@@incorrupti3557 the video said that NG+ isn’t actually harder. According to the vid, it raises cap to 100, removes UI for buttons (not sure which, but makes sense if the cinematic buttons are removed), and changes monsters to more complex move sets. Otherwise, video says NG+ doesn’t actually raise the difficulty of these encounters. If you know how to beat these enemies in normal you can defeat them no problem in NG+.

How are this game's antagonists compared to the ones in Tales of Arise? I remember all the lords were hot garbage, poor written characters.
Just from the demo alone i can already tell the writing in this game is a million times better than tales of arise. Tales of arise is generic anime garbage

We really only showed 3 which have been showed in the trailers already and we didn’t show the main antagonist or characters that have yet to be revealed. Hopefully that eases your mind

I just can't enjoy this one. It was so meh. The combat was cool (apart from the qte) but it's left too much of FF behind.
The game isnt about a main bad guy. Its about the perspective of the cost of humanity when corruption and selfishness rule the day. Ive been writing for over 20 years.......the best stories dont have a main atangonist. Thats just a trope drilled into peoples heads. You dont need a world ending all powerful maguffin to have stakes. Its telling a human story about the cost of war and greeed and resource hording. There are no bad or good guys. Just like in real life. Christ
Thanks for bringing this perspective to light. The ultimate macguffin at the end of every game is a bit overplayed. Not to mention alot of pressure to be memorable. I appreciate this direction much more.
I think about God of War: Ragnarok. One hell of an incredible game, but in my opinion Odin was a bit underwhelming at the end.
Another average entry that people are going wild for. . .
I'm tempted to say it only gets a pass because the art style is so drastically different, and better, than 99% of JRPGs, with their cheap af looking cell shading nonsense!
. . . But at least they have gameplay that isn't "don't need to think about it". Since when is casual, easy gameplay a good thing?! x. x
