I seriously don't understand, When people are granted 10/10 unique gameplay they criticize on it, senselessly, just because it wasnt like their favourite games
Playing the demo literally made me tear up. The struggles and the jealousy that brothers experience for each other makes me think of the struggles I’ve experienced with my own brother. Having sons of my own and I see the jealousy they have for each other, and you just feel this from this title. Few games accomplish this and this deserves more love for just accomplishing to make you feel something
First 10-20 hours was great, but the quality didn’t hold for me. And it got very repetitive. This is when the lack of a party system became noticeable, and the lack of basic FF elements like magic elements, status effects, etc.
The rage and pain I felt at some of the side quests with how the barers were treated. Literally treated as sub human standing there using magic non stop and seeing their body’s harden was just brutal. I do think the game was too long it took me 80 hours to complete the game BUT I did all side missions all hunts treasures and what not lol
Im kind of in the middle…. -while the side quests are fantastic for world building….their rewards….horrible. For people who typically play action games, side quests usually offer upgrades, accessories, or new armor. Side quests in this game offer exp and ability points. Kind of redundant after a while from a reward standpoint. I personally liked the side quests for the reasons you mentioned. But my gripes are still present. -exploration: again, the variety is the problem. Most people expect a game with maps like this to have hidden items to search for. And if you encounter a hunt or strong monster, youd expect a good drop or guarded item to be there after you beat the monster. This is very rarely the case. You beat the monster, you get ext/ability points, you move on. Yes some of the side quests interact with this, but the rewards you get are repetitive. Even the crafting materials hold no inherent value. You can make the best weapon in the game by the end game without using hardly any crafting materials you accumulate from the entire play through. -combat: nothing to say, i love it.
By the way, i give this game a 9.5/10. Simply for the reasons i stated. I got the plat for the game and im on my 4th play through. I just see things that could have made the game that much better.
A lot of critique on XVI seems to be centered around expectation rather than what’s there. For me the hunts/sidequests themselves are the ‘reward’, however maybe down the line better rewards for quests could be implemented - perhaps some of the new DLC equipment that changed combat significantly.
@@TheFlipsideShow yeah, the new dlc accessories could have been rewards for hidden “superbosses” or the S rank hunts. That would have been a good way to implement them.
I liked XVI quite a bit but the exploration complaints certainly weren't unfounded, specifically with the chests in the world. Yes, there is the occasional piece of armor or weapon to find, but if you've been keeping up with side quests, almost all of the weapons you can find (I think there's like 1 or 2 swords that can actually be better than what you'd have on hand) is worse than what you have for keeping up lol, and you cannot upgrade them. In addition, 80% of what you find is just crafting mats. It begs the question of why they even placed chests around the world to begin with. Hell, even the Masamune was worse than what you can have on hand when you find it and it isn't even a top 3 weapon of the game, and as a big FF nerd this hurts my soul.
This is easily the best FF16 review I've seen. This video explains most my reasonings why people hate on 16 for no absolute reason, I find it that FF fans are so stuck in the past and don't want new innovation of what's being brought into this series. Then years later they'll comeback saying how it was mistreated it is
This is such a retarded take that it hurts to read. I thought we all moved on. PEOPLE CHANGING GENRES IS NOT INNOVATION. If anything Ff16 regresses on a load of aspects that original fans would have taken for granted. Crazy if you think about it, what did they expect?. My god The game that killed Ff16 in all aspects has all the features we OGs have been begging for a decade and a halved, Baldur's Gate 3. Now that's innovation in the turn-based rpg genre that final fantasy built an empire on.
It’s not that it’s just not an RPG by any means, the world is drab and boring, the sidequests are literally half fetch quests, the animations are stiff and low quality and the eikon fights are 50 percent mash square for intensity and cutscenes with an hp bar laid over them. The only memorable song is the ending song. The story is is it’s best quality. This would’ve been a better standalone movie not a mainline title.
I've played every main final fantasy game. And it's my favourite. Yeah side quests are a bit boring but this is one of the best character arcs in all of gaming
It's not hate when it's genuine legit criticism of the game's short comings. I love every FF and even have collector's for most mainline FF games. That doesn't mean I can't criticise this game. Combat is fun until you get a combo that works every single fight. Then it becomes rinse and repeat. No elemental effects at all. No status effects at all. The side quests stories are not bad, the execution is bad. It's basically Ff14 as a single player game and trying to force players to cover every corner of an empty map. Hunts are easy. There's almost 0 rpg elements. Basic stats and no character builds at all. It's just about doing all the side quests and coming back for the best weapon. The story is alright but dragged on too much at the end. Pacing is terrible. The boss fights are great. So the highs are real high but the lows are real real low. Compared to 7 Remake, remake lows are ok,meh, but the highs are extremely high. Overall 16 to me is a 7.5-8 compared to 7 Remake a 9. And rebirth is looking like a 9.5-10
Someone speaking facts. 16 was a major letdown. Even the boss fights were trash. They were just cinematic slog fests. I'm replaying FFX again after almost 20 years to get the bad taste of 16 out my mouth and OMG this is a real Final Fantasy game. Hopefully going forward, the series becomes great again, because FF15 and FF16 were really poor games especially for FINAL FANTASY
@@hotcoldman77 No way that you're calling the boss fights trash lmao. They are the best part of the game, let's not slander the one of the only truly great parts of it. Especially if you go for those no-damage medals, hoo boy. That's where the combat truly shines.
@@tbnwontpop8857 The boss fights aren't good. They're long, boring, tedious and pose zero challenge. I just defeated Yunalesca from FFX yesterday (without Aeons) and that's a boss fight that whooped my ass and gave me a tough time. It was very rewarding defeating her. Just because there's epic music and spectacle in FF16 boss fights doesn't make them good. Asura's Wrath did the on-rails cutscene heavy epic fights back in 2010 or whenever it came out and they were nothing special back then and are even worse now. C'mon guys... FF deserves better. Heck the AIrbuster boss fight from FF7R is better than all the snoozefest boss fights from 16. Don't even get me started on the endless chore that was the Titan fight smh
The spectacle of the fights is amazing. Mechanically they are garbage. They are impossible to lose and somehow even more thoughtless than the regular gameplay. You get all of your abilities swapped out with a basic move set and you wail on a big ass boss with a ridiculous health bar for an hour until the QTE's come up which your have seemingly 4 hours to press before you fail. @@tbnwontpop8857
I think my biggest gripes are Waloed is undercooked and Jill is underutilized. In the case of Waloed, I was curious what kind of hurdles and challenges I'd have to go through to get to Odin or what the settlements and culture would be like, and while the tower battles were nice, it felt like I was able to just walk up to the tower and that was it. I know it's purposefully empty but it still feels weird to have this huuuuuuge region be almost completely abandoned. What if we had to break through a huge orc territory? Stuff like that would have been nice. You also got almost no Ifrit on Odin fighting, it was mostly just regular combat, which feels weirdly underwhelming when the Bahamut fight took you above the stratosphere. As far as my thoughts on Jill go, it always felt like she got pushed to the background, even in her own story quest. It would have been great if we got to control her as Shiva the same way we took control of the Phoenix during certain moments, such as when Clive was duking it out with Liquid Flame. Would have also been nice if she could have helped out during the raid on Origin. I don't understand why she couldn't access her abilities anymore since every dominant prior to her was able to do so after getting megaman'd by Clive. It seemed like there was just a cooldown period, but story was like "Nah, Jill's gotta stay home for... Jill reasons." I say all this having recently 100% the game. It's a really great experience during its highs, it just felt like some characters were underutilized and some parts could have been expanded upon. My guess is the devs were running out of steam by the time you reach the Waloed part. Then again, given the craziness that happens after, it's hard to say. Either way I liked the game, just felt like there could have been some slight adjustments here and there.
I’m honestly with you there. I felt like Jill got sidelined so much. Really, almost every female character in this game got the short end of the stick. Jill constantly gets sidelined, even towards the end of her own arc. Benedikta is set up as a tragic figure only to go insane, die, then be seen only twice more in the game as hallucinations by other men, in which she is always treated as an object of desire (not to mention her head getting cut off specifically to motivate Hugo into by king after Clive). And all the other female characters (Tarja, Martha, Isabelle, Eloise, Charon) get a few (pretty interesting, granted) side quests and that’s it. It really feels like someone at the company wasn’t a fan of any female characters to the point where they either have to be sidelined or killed off. And I like all these characters, I just think they deserved better (especially Benedikta).
@@tepandflash5950 I honestly was still satisfied with her storyline. Kind of tragic love story, but the moments she does get to shine I loved it. I am kind of a sucker for Shiva and rapiers though so they had me at hello on that one.
That's valid but I'm tired of just going tru a tower activation gimmick in every open world game. Elden ring was just fighting enemies. Ff 16 had the right amount to make me satisfied as I'm not really a fan of looking for random things. My favorite map exploration is prolly Yakuza and the new ff rebirth. I love finding random wacky mini games.
@@jesseperez4185 so you say you don't like looking for random things and then the very next sentence you say you do like looking for random things. Which one is it?
Ok so weird conspiracy theory time, but I noticed a huge uptick in hate for this game (even before it came out) around the time Yoshi P said the bit about not liking the the term JRPG because it tries to separate any type of RPG that came out of Japan as lesser than RPGS releasing in the west.
I think the hate for 16 might come from that you only get one of these per console generation. If you don't like what they're doing with one, well, see you in 7-10 years. I loved 16 and its the first FF game I bought at launch. Usually, I'm not playing these till they've been out for a decade or more. (Can't agree about the map though, but thats not an issue of this game its just AAA games period.)
Been a fan of the series since I was a kid, here's the things that didn't work for me. About the combat...once you've found the eikon combination that works for you...there's really no incentive to switch around, every major boss works exactly the same, the game never encourages you to change up your tactics. About the story...I wish Ultima didn't exist, I wish Barnabas/Odin had been the main antagonist. Ultima is incredibly uninteresting as a villain, the world had so much awesome lore that we never really learn about. I think the most interesting part of this universe are the eikons, show us how the current generation of dominants came to be, tell us more about their backstories.
The incentive to change up your build for me has always been to have fun and see what else the game has to offer. Sticking to the same weapon combo in DMC V even gets stale after a while, experimentation is what keeps action systems consistently exciting. I do feel Barnabas should have gotten more attention - one of the genuine complaints I mentioned was some characters were underutilized and he is one of them. I do enjoy Ultima a lot though, I feel a game where you’re constantly ramping up in bosses you have to have that “kill god” final boss.
@@TheFlipsideShow I feel like the game should nudge you to experiment more, make a certain group of enemies take extra stagger damage if you use Ramuh, let me change between different loadouts mid battle. One of my biggest gripes is that the eikon combo you'll use for trash mobs isn't the same as the one for bosses, and because you can't change on the fly you're often stuck with the wrong eikons,
@TheFlipsideShow It's cool if you are able to make your own fun through experimentation. However, I remember reading an article a while back about game design. It explained that the majority of gamers will use the most effective strategy regardless of wether doing so will actually decrease their ability to enjoy the game. They argued therefore, that it was the game designer's responsibility to create obstacles requiring the player to engage with the game's mechanics. This creates a more fun and rewarding experience.
The side quests, while arguably "menial" *i do not agree* i feel actually makes it a more immersed feeling. In a world where youre trying to change the world, its not all gonna be heroic battles. Sometimes you just hang out and do some random shit to help those around you. Also, all these dorks complaining are probable just used to obnoxiously vast open world exploration, and while id like maybe a touch more abokity to explore the maps (mostly because of how intricately beautiful they are) theres a perfect amount of explorabilty in every land.
I don’t think any reasonable person would say that this game did everything incorrectly. The game had a very arcade feel to it which isn’t a bad thing at all. It just isn’t what I look for in an RPG and definitely not what I would expect from a Final Fantasy title. I personally think that the best way to defend this game would be to capitalize on the intriguing combat, cool boss fights, and story moments as those are the shining achievements of this game (you are welcome to name other things). But I DON’T think you should try to defend the main critiques of this game because most of them are pretty valid. Exploration is a bore. It’s very hard to take your statements-defending the exploration of this game-seriously when there isn’t a single optional dungeon in the game. The optional battles you do are more like challenge battles than actual dungeons. There are hunts, but none of which fall outside of the linear formula of “find monster and kill it.” Not to mention none of the hunts are repeatable meaning my dreams to refight king behemoth lie behind the gates of a New Game +. Finding weapons isn’t exciting in the slightest, because unlike other RPGs that have depth weapons that offer stat differences making you consider equipping different pieces of equipment (which in turn encourages player expression). Weapons in ffxvi offer only two stats that increase mutually with every weapon you get. No new weapon skills or fighting styles, just the same thing but with a different looking sword. And to be honest, the combat isn’t THAT deep. It’s hard to say that it is when there isn’t much combat variety, the skills you unlock in the center of the skill tree are fully accessible after just a few hours of gameplay not to mention most of it is just clutter (the “jump” command is listed in the skill tree???). There are 4 (plus 1 eikon ability) unique abilities offered with every eikon but you are only limited to using 3 eikons and a measly 2 skills per eikon leaving well over half of the skill tree just completely unutilized at any point of the game. The party members are stagnant, and from a gameplay perspective just don’t matter at all. They aren’t custimizable at all and the only one that can take commands is Torgal. There are a couple of character inclusive sidequests where your party might have something to say (or unless they are the client of the sidequest), but otherwise they are just mobile cardboard cutouts only providing input at the next story flag. If you guys think that me judging this game as an RPG is unfair, I think this is disingenuous. If a game is going to label itself as an “action RPG” it deserves to be judged as such. I still love this game, I got the platinum trophy and am looking forward to the dlc coming out. But I don’t deny that this game was a disappointment. I think there are plenty of things this game does right, but it just isn’t a game I will remember.
i don't think i've seen anyone writing a whole ass paragraph regarding how bad the game is but still love it? but in the end it's still a disappointment? but still looking forward to the dlc. like bruh you doin' good?

When it evolved into something that doesn't resemble what it used to be. It's no longer a FF. Maybe SE just titled FF16 as ie DMC FF action game or something without having FF16 in the name. It will definitely won't be that much hate. Where is party building? where is special theme song for each character? where is the journey? what about mini-game? There just so much thats missing. I love Final Fantasy 16! Been a life long fan of the series as a whole, every iteration takes one step further into getting that much better. Sure it’s not turn based any more, but it’s more than enjoyable. In my opinion anyways, I’m still enjoying it, plus with the added dlc, just makes the game that much greater!! 😁😁
Its funny you showed GamingBritShows review because thats the exact video that made me unsubscribe from him. He outright said he did like 2 sidequests that didnt have the + icon and then none after that and then goes on to complain that a bunch of lore stuff never got explained. Every example he listed as never getting explained I could off the top of my head tell you which side quest it got explained in. He also spent the majority of the review intentionally doing an INCREDIBLY shitty job recapping the story. Like, over half the video is a super bad faith recap of the story that legit leaves out important details and nuance, some of which actively disproves some of his complaints. Plus im fairly certain he was deleting comments that called him out or disagreed with him
Back when the game first came out I wrote a huge 2000+ word review for it, but I'm going to condense that for this comment. For me when all was said and done Final Fantasy XVI was truly an epic journey from start to finish in every sense of the word, excelling in every single possible element the game has to offer providing one of the best narratives I've ever experienced in a video game with an incredibly detailed and immersive world to learn about starring a rich cast of well written and realistic characters in no small part thanks to its incredible side quests and masterclass voice acting performances. All topped off with an enjoyable combat system and mind-blowing boss fights which is all only enhanced thanks to the truly next-gen visuals, sound and production values overall alongside a masterfully composed OST too. Some people say XVI isn't a true Final Fantasy and to that I will just say that Final Fantasy XVI reminded me what a mainline Final Fantasy at its best has always been about. A mind-blowing, generation defining experience that will stick with you for life.

Also say what you want about XVI not having enough RPG elements or not liking the combat or whatever else, but you're delusional if you think the production values aren't just as good as Rebirth. Final Fantasy XVI kicks off with all the fireworks of a grand finale, then quickly devolves into what feels like an endless loop of soap opera meets fetch quest. It's like, blast through a blockbuster opening, then retreat to your cozy hideaway to chat everyone's ears off for an eternity. Next, trot off to the next town for a snooze-worthy side quest, hunt down some arbitrary key, and just before you nod off, wake up for an epic Eikon showdown. And just when you think there's a twist coming… nope, it’s just the same old cycle on repeat, six times over! By the halfway mark, I was hitting the skip button like it was a snooze alarm. Despite the solid acting and a story that had legs (if only they’d learned to run!), the game's pacing felt like a marathon with too many water breaks. So, a solid 6/10-enter at your own risk of boredom. Replay value? Nah.
I agree with everything you said except the pace. I do not think the game has good pacing (specifically the last half of ghe game), honestly the reason I haven’t completed it yet is because the last half of game moves so slow. It feels like you’re doing side quests even though you’re not. And that kills me, since I really love characters and the lore.
ff16 felt like it went 50-50 with its direction, when I was playing it I was constantly thinking if it was a spectacle fighter like dmc/bayo or a jrpg. They said it was still going to be rpg-like but there are VERY little rpg elements compared to something like ff7 remake or rebirth, tales etc u get the point. The action spectacle figher aspect was actually well done tbh but i felt like the movesets felt limiting bc it was restricted to only 6 eikon skills not including ur base moveset. I wish we were able to use more? Or maybe have different weapon types aside from odins sword. Maybe we could've used titans gauntlets as an actual weapon instead of just being skills or ramuh's staff.
This comment right here. This is what I been saying. I agree with EVERYTHING you have said. This game really was 50/50 with its combats, it should have been more DMC like if they was going to this direction. At least the combat would have been wayyyy more fun.
I really like the game. I love the mature tone, I love the over the top Eikon battles, I like the world and characters, I like the combat, I like the zones. My main critique is I don’t care for the main villain..and when he/it came into focus in the story, my interest rapidly declined. I understand that the game is built around Clive and his Eikonic abilities…I do miss having other playable characters though. Oh well! I do want the team behind XIV to make another FF, BUT I would very much like them to model the combat after VII: Remake/Rebirth and to have a full roster of playable characters.
this game will be considered one of the best Final Fantasy games in a few years. That is what happens to these games, they are hyped when lauched, criticized after a few years and aclaimed by true fans when the years go by.

I liked the lack of minigames so I can focus on the story and combat, not being forced to do quicktime events and slow pacing every 15 minutes. FF16 got a lot of hate for youtubers who do JRPG contents and made it into something, but it was loud minorty like skillup - mattyplays and other JRPG nerds... the majority of people like action games that is fact...
Be honest, compared to FF16, how many content creators were sponsored by Square enix for FF7rebirth? Did FF7rebirth had any pre-launch festival like FF16 where they invited all the popular content creators? There is a reason Naoki Hamaguchi got promoted to Executive despite the slow sales of FF7Rebirth, where Hiroshi Takai is missing in action. Hamaguchi made a huge open world game in 4 years(ofc FF7R helped a lot) that got 92 in metacritic, and probably sold enough without high marketing budget. As for FF16, the demo of FF16 is easily the best demo in existence, the hype was real, nobody can deny that. However, what happened afterwards? Why the sales went down so much that it vanished from PS download just 2 months after. Why only 3% players who bought FF16 are actually trying Rising Ride? Three Percent!!! This actually shows how many players are interested AFTER playing FF16. FF16 had initial success because of it's amazing marketing and CBD3 reputation, nothing else. Easily in my top favorite games so suprised me seeing how many people were harshly criticizing it or ranking it really low compared to other FF games. I can see some aspects that could be improved but nothing in it ever stopped me from loving the experience. I really hope we get more games like it
The world design is bland in that it offers little worthwhile rewards and it just simply isn't fun to explore. Doesn't have the it factor. You picked the top 5% of sidequests that were decent. And even those are average compared to the top of the industry. FF16 combat is too easy which results in boredom. That's the criticism. I thought the game was decent overall.
@@nickt6947 the most important thing in here is the exploration. I even didn't bother to check everything because i know the rewards gonna be another trash materials. Also weapon only increase base damage and no special effects or passive effect made the customization so pale. Never in my life i'll see a decent game with so many flaws.
I thought it was a good game, but one of my main gripes was that it's way too easy. There is basically no challange to it for 95% of the game, which kinda makes the combat feel less rewarding. I also am not the biggest fan of the westernized medieval inspired setting for an FF game personally, but that's completely subjective preference. Obviously the performance issues didn't help the game either.
That's a totally legit complaint to have about the game. I didn't think it was all that easy, but I can see how people would like a hard difficulty being present into the game, sucks that the devs didn't think on that.
My only two problems. Titan fight was way too long It was annoying to talk to someone, to walk 10 feet just to get into another conversation. Just streamline the dialogue
The reason people weren't satisfied is because there wasn't much there. You can gesture at the positives all you want, but if there was any actual fulfilling or substantive content in the game, it would not have come and gone as fast as it has. The glitz and glam is great but its not a substitute for actual mechanics. I know this is gonna sound dickish, but the FFXVI story is so genuinely awful and shallow that I cannot believe anyone seriously considers it well written. Nobody actually does, they just pretend it is because it vaguely resembles game of thrones for half of it before turning into your standard JRPG "kill god with friendship and love" Shonen manga nonsense. I firmly believe games are art and have the capacity to tell stories no other medium does, but FFXVI is some of the most brainless derivative bullshit I've ever experienced. This is "Ant-man And The Wasp on Blu-Ray" of video games. It has the veneer of something cool, but there's absolutely no substance. A good example of how little thought went into some of it, is the fact that basic underlying story makes no sense. Why did Josua hide from Clive for a decade? He let his brother live in slavery and infinite torment with guilt, never even once attempting to reach out despite having a Deus Ex-machina super secret ninja guild at his disposable, for absolutely no reason. Why? Well, they needed the Jon Snow and Bran scene from GOT season 8. Thats it. What does Jill like besides food? What's her sense of humor? Did she miss Torgal all those years? Where are her parents? does she even once mention them in the entire 40 hour run time? Does she hold any resentment for being a ward of rosaria? Why does Clive's uncle not even acknowledge her presence? What does Josua like? What are his goals? Does he on some level feel relieved he doesn't have to rule rosaria anymore? What are his feelings towards his mother? Does he feel anything after watching her literally slit her own throat? There are no answers to any of this because this is not a serious story. It's a series of set pieces designed to make you go "ooooh" and "aaaaah" and at not point asks you to think. on a gameplay level, It has possibly the worst exploration I've ever played in any RPG or action game, bar none. At least in something like ninja gaiden you might turn a corner and find a key to a locked door, or in DMC you might find a health upgrade and a jumping puzzle. FFXVI has none of this. You could not explore for a single second and miss absolutely nothing. The devs knew this which is why they put 2 gil every where and made the loot beams comically big. I didn't die a single time and put 0 thought into any of my abilities. Spamming eikon abilities when they're up was more than enough to steamroll every single hunt and main boss in the game. On every level it is so clearly aiming to be as inoffensive and sterile as possible, from the combat, the world design, all the way to the plot itself.
I agree with everything here. The villains were also disappointing and one-note. Benedikta had great potential, but they killed her off too soon. Is Benedikta aware of Ultima and Barnabas' servitude toward him? Does she have feelings for Hugo, Barnabas or Cid, or none of them? Does Hugo know she's in a relationship with Barnabas? We only see Benedikta and Hugo interact once on screen together at the beginning of the game, and we're supposed to believe that they had a deep enough relationship to fuel Hugo's rage. Once she died, the political intrigue of the story began to fade. Barnabas had great potential but then you find out he's just Ultima's pawn. There's a cutscene where Ultima appears as his dead mom and Barnabas puts his head in her lap, suggesting an Oedipal relationship. I was hoping they'd expand on that, but it never gets brought up again, and since the characters never witness this scene between Barnabas and his mother, there is no discussion about it. I really wanted to know more about the religions in this game. Metia also seemed like it would be way more important to the story than it was. I think XII and Tactics did the political story better than XVI did.
@omuraiku7592 actual good story, yes the spectacle was great but that was it a Spectacle, extremely easy button mashing fights, and heres the thing the only interesting part were when these big battles were happening every other part of the story is boring as heck and you know why? Because the world is not fun nothing about the lore or the world building is interesting, the waring kingdoms are all paper thin you can't even go to the big cities nor interact with the people, the Empire starts a war then occupies the Dominion all in the 5 year skip how about the people do they even care does anyone care about us going around destroying the Crystals? No do other nations start to protect their crystals of course not, nope because we are laser focused on Clive, ok is Clive interesting absolutely not, from the start you discover that Joshua is alive and he is Ifrit so his revange story ends right then and there, does he want revange against the Empire? Absolutely not he couldn't care less about the Empire. Do we get to see him living 13 years as a slave and a wyvern? No let's just skip all that, does he care about his mother who betrayed him and reason why his father is dead and their kingdom has fallen, nope Clive just doesn't so does clive care about? Nothing, what about the villains? Are they interesting? Benedicta dies way too early before we even get to know her or her back story with Cid and The Odin guy, was Hugo interesting no he's just a big baby keeps throwing tantrums he could've been an interesting character if they allowed Benedicta to have say in the story, the only one left is Odin and lo and behold he's nothing but a crazy zealot I kept rolling my eyes every time he started delivering his boring monologs, and then there's Ultima the most basic ass villain just evil because he's evil no interesting history no good reasons just basic, even Chaos from the first FF was more interesting. If you think the terrible story of FF16 is fun, then you must really like Michael Bay Transformers movies because that's what FF16 basically is bare-bones story but amazing spectacle.
I really liked Jill. She sacrificed her innocence for some children and the tragedy of her being enslaved for being a dominant was quite emotional too. She should have had an actual story-line.
For as much as I loved my time with FF16, I can't deny that I do relate to the critiques presented (some of it is over-inflated but regardless) For one, the side quests. Most are fantastic. But yes, the cutscenes and actual gameplay component of them can drag on depending on the quest in question. The worst offenders are something to the effect of "go fetch 3 of x item for", like 1 minute of cutscenes. So now I'm spending far too much time simply walking from place to place, fighting some mooks, and picking up said items with little to no additional banter or input from Clive and the party. It just feels like busy work, annoyingly. Which kind of leads me to my only big issues with combat. Most of the smaller enemies are just punching bags. Which is a shame because when you have actually involved enemies the combat becomes *fantastic*, a bit spongy at times, but it genuinely tests you and pushed you to mix things up. But most of the enemies you'll be fighting during sidequests feel like fodder most of the time.
The really weird thing is, FF15, FF7 Remake, and Rebirth, make many of the same design decisions. Yet these same people, are either silent or seem to actively like those games. So yeah, I truly don't know what's up with the FF16 hate. There are certainly things I think the game could've done better, but the complaints generally make me feel like these people weren't playing the same game.
It's one of the rare occasions that I have not played the game, but every quest I saw had depth in Final Fantasy XVI from my brother's perspective. It not having any awards is okay in my book since everyone last year had banger game releases. I loved this game as much as I love the Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, I loved it like I loved BG3, I loved it like how I loved Spider Man 2, I loved it like I played Persona 3 Reload, I loved it like I loved Zelda Totk and Fire Emblem Engage. This year's big games are certainly hard to hate because the companies ramped their stuff up too good. What a gaming year in general. By the matter of how "lacking" this game is, I blame the fans for comparing games instead of experiencing them. This game is a work of art. Y'all just bitter. Every category in the game of the year choices this year truly killed it. The better we get competition against these companies, the better games we get. Also, no one nailed Kaiju boss battles like we had on this one. Spectacular.
It's just the story that isn't very much focused and consistent. Feels like the story revolves around the battles instead of the battles elevating the story. Really, up to and including Benedikta, everything is top notch. But from the infernal battle with evil Clive, it's so obvious every act/moment is staged for the sake of it. And yeah, towns are quite repetitive...
Absolutely love how you broke down the main problem at the end. There’s things to criticize in the game for sure, but it seems that the only criticism these people have is that they wanted it to be a different game, something the devs explicitly told us it wouldn’t be. It’s an incredibly disingenuous and childish argument to say this games problem was that it’s action based. People pretending that their interpretation of what makes a Final Fantasy is law is also super annoying, FF is about innovating and doing new things with each entry, that’s why everyone has a different favorite entry, I don’t want a stagnant series stuck to the same old combat system
How about what makes a final fantasy game is that it’s an RPG. This has no RPG to. Exploration is trash, rewards are trash. Upgrades are trash. This isn’t even dmc5 like. Dmc5 was good. This try’s to be that and it’s not. Nor is it final fantasy. Stop stoking the game as if it’s good. Hack and slash. That’s it.
@@user-fr5hs4vj4d Also like it or not it’s an RPG, skill trees, gear, accessories. You don’t have to like it but by definition it is an RPG. As for exploration, literally no FF game has good exploration, there’s only one open world FF (FFXV) and exploration was just as if not more shallow than it is here. This strange anger you have toward XVI is very weird LOL
FF7 Rebirth is a good contrast, I enjoyed the combat for the most part (the bosses felt weaker than remake though) but it's so utterly bloated and they pad it out by making you interact as slowly and clunkily as possible with most of the minigames and checkmarks on the map. The sidequests feel like murder half of the time. It's a 20 hour game with 40-60 hours of filler. FF16 on the other hand gives you punchy sidequests that let you visit the corners of the map exactly once rarely retracing the same steps, while ensuring you see it all. Yeah the progression could feel more rewarding instead of the "increase dps by 5 damage" every chapter section but I very rarely felt bored doing 100% of the side content. I only wanted more of the characters' time. I would love to get a full eikon swap mode with elemental scaling on enemies as a more technical mode, would never get old
@@MMACinephile hard to say, as a whole package I prefer XVI to Remake to Rebirth but the endgame trials on hard mode in Rebirth are really where the game shines if you're not going for completionist on the minigames anyway. I probably have more time in Rebirth but not really time well spent I felt for the first half of that. I really didn't click with most of the mini games though I did appreciate the effort put in, I just didn't like being taken out of the plot for several hours. Replaying on hard you can just skip to the combat and Rebirth is for sure a cut above Remake for depth and strategy. XVI on ultimaniac also brings out the depth but it doesn't feel quite as refined though it feels amazing.
Final Fantasy, any of them is about accepting what we know about the best franchise to ever exist in gaming history! All are great!!! And I’ve played them all…
"Always move you along" bruh i hated the hideaway lol, that shit was ruining the pacing greatly after the bahamut fight. I hated it , the second the story gets going back to the hideaway and talking to multiple npcs with boring dialouge
I pre-ordered this game and really wanted to give a new Final Fantasy a chance after XV bored me and VIIR disappointed me. I ended up really liking this one.. but not quite loving it? Still was worth the mones, but I did pinpoint what bothered me about it: 1.) Combat was absolutely a highlight for this entry, but I do think it requires a lot of patience to really get to the point where you can truly have fun with a diverse set of skills. And part of that I feel comes from the foundation being very basic compared to something like DMC where your starting skills are still satisfying and don't feel like "Square, Square, Square" before you can do a cool move. 2.) To coincide with the combat, the difficulty of this game was *way* too easy. As soon as you figure out how much the dodge and parry mechanic absolutely breaks this game, it's pretty much all over with the rest of combat from there. "Final Fantasy mode" should have been there from the start. 3.) While I think combat, yet again, does build up with time throughout the battles, I don't think Eikon battles really pick up steam until Barnabas's fight melded regular fighting and eikon fighting together. They really do feel very mechanically simplistic, either with Phoenix's rail shooter sections or Ifrit's very limited moveset. That all culminated in the Titan fight in particular overstaying its welcome far too long for me and what would have otherwise been a favored boss for me with pacing on par with Metal Gear Ray in Rising: Revengeance and the Asura's Wrath boss fights instead becomes one of the most tedious I've ever sat through. The irony is that the previous fight against Hugo _is_ my favorite in the game. 4.) Story-wise, I get the intent of wanting to push the dark fantasy with this game and that premise has turned people off from this entry and even proclaim it not a final fantasy because of it and the pure action combat. But I'll be honest, the game's story got really jarring for me when it became really obvious that this was a Final Fantasy story that just happened to be a dark fantasy at times. Not every "dark fantasy" moment really landed for me as a result, but I will give props to the last side quest to involve the adopted brother. If you know the one, it still gave me chills to see in all the best ways. 5.) I can't remember whether it was Kotaku or Ign that complained that Jill was just a "pretty face" and received backlash for harping on the "pretty character" instead of the "western uggos". But honestly.. they were kinda right? Outside of maybe one impactful scene and a single impactful arc, she really is relegated to side attraction and supplementary role to Clive, as cute as their dynamic is together. I absolutely wanted more of her at the time. 6.) I won't go into spoilers, but the ending felt rushed and unearned to me. I didn't like it compared to other properties that executed it much better. Despite all that, I can say without a doubt I had no regret purchasing this game at launch and playing it all the way through. I think a lot of the complaints are overblown while still seeing where others are coming from, and even having some of my own that don't coincide with others. But hey, at least we got something pretty unique out of this.
Ffxvi is good if you're looking for a game that only looks cool. Beyond visuals it's really a low tier shallow action game in a series known for depth - of course longtime fans won't like it. Fdxvi just watered down ff to now include mediocre action games.
Long time fan here, especially the pre-FF7 titles. I'm loving it, feels like playing a story of that FF era with a few new stuff and modernized graphics. I agree the genre doesn't help with party development, and limits other aspects of the game. And nevertheless manages to be a good game. I'm pretty sure if this game would get pixelized with the rpg stuff back, you would love it.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 best ff 16 review i’ve seen 🚫🧢 i 100% agree with u my boi 💯💯 My honest only critique about the game is the fact that there’s no elemental affinities or familiar status effect or buffs mechanics as a option for clive but i love the game and clive my third favorite protagonist in the series next to cloud and lightning
Ima get destroyed but... Hated the exploration and side quest. Game.blew me away though and was really good Edit A few side quest were good but most were torture. That being said still a great game
It had the Final Fantasy feel, so it's definitely a Final Fantasy game. And a great one at that. For me, it's not the combat or stupid minigames, that make a Final Fantasy game, it's the over-the-top grandeur, the vision, the catharsis. This was my GOTY. Over Zelda and BG3, over everything else. FFXVI was the GOTY.
I just recently played this because I just got a ps5 and I didn’t really watch any reviews so it’s shocking to me to hear that people said that about the side quests because I was literally telling my buddy about how I thought they were super well done in that even the simplest fetch quest provided an extra level of knowledge on the world and I loved it, don’t see how anyone can complain about these things this game is a masterpiece
If anything this game proved that the _no one hates FF more than it's own fans_ meme is a fact. Most of the critiques of the game don't make sense: _the story doesn't feel like FF because is too dark_ but somehow games like FFVI or FFX having a _dark tone_ is fine. _It's a cutscene fest_ as is every game in the series but now suddenly is now a problem with this one. _Combat is repetitive and boring_ yeah because grinding for hours at random encounter in the old games wasn't _repetitive_ at all. But hey, give it a few years and this game is gonna be regarded as a _misunderstood masterpiece_ just like XIII since apparently that game was always peak and not the boring mess it used to be.
IMO this is the best modern Final Fantasy game I’ve played, I tried to play 15 and 7 Remake and they just weren’t doing anything for me compared to this game. I can’t really explain it either, the story is way better and easier to follow, more dark and cinematically presented. The combat is basic enough yet fun enough for me and it’s not a slog on the difficulty but challenging enough to be at least somewhat engaging. The game is linear but there’s enough side quests and hunts or hidden items that the game rewards you for not just following the main story and that’s it. I enjoyed the cutscenes, I enjoyed the voice acting, the story line, the settings and graphics, and the music is amazing in this game. It’s not for everyone I can understand that, but as someone who comes from growing up on Final Fantasy games in a weird way Final Fantasy 16 feels like the first real Final Fantasy game to me since Final Fantasy 9.…and if you ask me to explain it I probably won’t be able to. But this game definitely feels like it sticks more to the roots of what it means to be a Final Fantasy game than any recent one I’ve seen in a long time.
I just didn't get the satisfaction from XVI I thought I would have . I did all these cool cinematic boss fights that just kept dragging on too long. I have played better created boss fights in Bayonetta and hell, even anime games like Naruto Storm... the crystal particle effects exploding were cool at least....
They are boring overly long cutscenes. I'm replaying FFX now and the bosses are 10000x better than whatever the garbage 16 was. In X, the bosses are challenging and you have to use your brains to overcome them. I have no idea why some of you like the nonsense we got in FF16 lmaooo. That's some Asura's Wrath ps3 stuff not Final Fantasy hahahaha
@sheriffyusuf3732 My god you are one of those "Its not a real final fantasy" people. There is no point in arguing with you, because that point is so ridiculously stupid
@@CojaGamez Cry some more lmaoooo. Keep defending mediocre trash like 16 so Square won't up their game and keep giving us mediocre trash like 16. It's "fans" like you that are the problem with the franchise and entertainment as a whole smh
I thought the last Odin fight was underwhelming. I was expecting an eikon vs. eikon masterpiece like with Titan and bahmut going blow for blow, and all I got was a dodging simulator
I heard this was due to Bahamut blowing out the budget and time constraints. Personally I liked having a huge Clive fight instead of Ifrit for a change so it did not bother me, I did notice it was lacking in the eikon department on that one though, but considering Barnabus gave up his humanity for power and was long just a husk pretty much, it had a sort of nice feeling to besting him as a human instead. I hope you played the Leviathan DLC though, if not consider giving it a shot, that was almost all eikon in that fight, and it was really fun, and challenging. Like you have to know and use all the eikon skills, you can't just BS that one.
@@TheRogBG why don't you go look up a playthrough then since you obviously wont even give it a chance, if you aren't familiar with the eikon fights you CAN NOT win that fight. It is that tight a dps/skill check and that is on a normal playthrough, not FF mode.
@@sparemobius7430 well I beat the main game and it was trash and a w key button masher. I won't give the dlc a chance because I don't want to support this super casual garbage anymore than I already have after buying the main game. Sold it the same day I beat it. Awful game that's only final fantasy in name.
There are certainly some nitpicks I have with the game, and personal things I wish were different, but overall the game is still a 9/10 game at the least. It’s a game that you can easily get the hang of because the abilities and combat is relatively simple at face value, but like any game you can get very complex with combinations of moves and your play style. And for how “easy” the game was, (I found it easy but of course not everyone will) Final Fantasy Mode does offer a more difficult challenge, along with the Echos of the Fallen DLC, which I believe Omega is the hardest fight in the game, cause I actually died multiple times on it. But the DLCs mini bosses were actually more difficult overall, so I think that it’s a good direction. I think when you have your Music a 10/10, Voice Acting 10/10, set pieces and moments a 10/10, characters 10/10, you look great, your story is great, and your only real negatives are the side quests weren’t anything special gameplay wise, you have some slow moments to calm you down before the next overload of crazy shit you are to experience, and your main villian isn’t that interesting. Then your game is at least a 8/10, and depending on how important those other things are to you it could be higher
FF mode is harder for sure. Yoshi P has said and shown in FF14 he does not feel story should be locked behind difficulty though, I feel that is very much shown here as well. Story mode (a mode I recommend starting in honestly just to get the items and then dump them) is super easy, I tried those items and it literally becomes hit square to win. Still as someone who is not big into souls games or much action the one that slows down combat and gives you a second to dodge was very appreciated for learning patterns at times, but yea that that auto combo one off, it is not fun, and honestly doesn't work that well with all the combos. That brings me to action mode, virtually identical to story, but with the training wheels off, a fair difficulty for those of us not used to action, though I am sure veterans of the genre will probably find it too easy. FF Mode though, very nice, shame you have to do it through new game+ for those who want it harder off the bat I guess, but hey it gives some replayability so im fine with it.
@@sparemobius7430 yeah, and now with Rising Tides they had the timekeeper fight and a extremely difficult DPS check against Leviatan. I haven’t beaten the game in FF Mode but in action mode it did take me like 4 tries, but I saw people stuck on it for like an hour. Most people I saw actually criticized how hard that fight is as a whole, and honestly that’s hilarious because of how easy most of them said the base game was. I think you still get the items in action mode they just aren’t equipped, so essentially that’s the only difference, I wish the game got progressively harder, like it technically does but once you figure out the timing of the perfect dodge, it becomes almost like a rhythm game with the music and the fight Lmfao 🤣, which is awesome but still to ME quite easy. I like FF7 Remakes hard mode a lot, no items, and Enemies get new attacks, so at least the AI improvement would have been nice to make fights not the same. And I wish you could have more then 3 accessories. That’s the other nitpick I have is that really the RPG stuff like swords and belts and bracers don’t do anything really, like they could have just had that be extra accessory slots and had Clive run with Invictus and mmmm the rest of the game, or even just had a completely different menu for those items. There’s alot of things I wish were in the game post playing, but like I said overall this is one of my favorite games I’ve ever played, and I’ve only played a handful of Final Fantasy games (7og, 7R,7CC, 15,16” but it’s certainly one of my favorites already. And for it to make that impact i think this game is still a 9/10.
After 15 i did not need another dark tragic loss after tragic loss leading to pyrrhic sacrifice journey. I noped out after watching Noctis stab himself 15 times. And the gameplay sucks
I can live with changes as long as it's fun, but they really should've kept status ailments and buffs/debuffs. FF was always one of the more ailment heavy games during harder fights, so I always saw it as a trademark, compared to other jrpg where you can hoard items like antidotes without ever using them
I think the side quest design was what thew me off. Narratively, I love them. They really fulfill the purpose of expanding the world of Valisthea. In terms of gameplay engagement outside of combat, I never got that sense of exploration where a side quest takes you to a secret location or has you do puzzles. Or perhaps have completely optional villages due to starting other side quests. You can boil it down to find item, kill a thing, talk to person in most cases. I’m not saying this makes the game bad, this is just something I would have loved to see improved upon or be taken as a lesson for future games.
My only rebuttal to the conbat is good. It just really really needs to expand for those more familiar with DMC. 6 abilites is super constrained compared to what you can do in that game. I dont want to make a build. i want to use all of the abilities ( or at least 75% of them ) during the same fight. Dont say it's overwhelming until you try to master Dante ( he has so so many moves)
Man, seeing people shitting on this game gives me a rage I havent felt in years. Its leagues above the likes of a game like FF15, heck i would say I like it more than 7 Rebirth so far. The level of quality over quantity proves that the formula works better than an open world with mindless tasks. Everything in this game is integrated with the bigger picture, the graphical fidelity is insane, the story beats hit hard, like wtf else could they want.
Ff16 isn't my favorite. Ff7r has my favorite gameplay and story. However, there has not been a game in my 35-year life that Gabe me literally goosebumps and "Fuck Yeah!" Enthusiasm like the scene in which Clive states "...you are not Ifrit...I am." The soundtrack is the best I've seen from any game as well. Not my favorite overall, but God Damnit if this game didn't cement itself in my memory as a great game.
I did every single side quest and loved how they expanded upon the characters and world. And the combat felt so good! For somone who is not very good at combat in games, this made me feel like I WAS ACTUALLY GOOD. It wasn't super clunky and looked incredible. That moment of satisfaction when you manage to dodge a powerful attack and follow it up with a counter that happens to break the enemy's toughness gauge, allowing you to perform an onslaught of ultimate abilities. FFXVI was a masterpiece except for the ending. 5/10 for that part but I can't let that take away from the absolute blast I had with the rest of the game.
Gamers on the internet want content, not substance. FF16 a Masterpiece. It’s story, world, gameplay have purpose. It’s a very efficient game. It takes your time seriously and gives more than what you asked of it. If you asked for an apple, it’ll slice the apple and put it on a plate for you. That’s FF16. If you asked for an apple and were left to do it all yourself, thats every other FF.
FF16 is far from a masterpiece. Boulders gate 3 is a masterpiece, The Witcher 3 is a Masterpiece. This game is a Devil May Cry clone and a worst one at that.
The whole game is like one of those fake towns they build for movies. Everything seems legit but when you look behind the set pieces, there is nothing there. No dungeons, no party, no sense of exploration because of a hub/mission format, no status ailments, no elemental weakness, no meaningful weapons or armor. It's a fine god of war clone but it doesn't scratch that RPG itch for me.
Also, thank you for this vid. Ff16 is underrated and I feel you. I feel similar about forspoken too. It’s actually a great game. It’s no ff16 lol but just a side note
I think one thing people didn’t like about the combat was the fact there was no party system. But honestly, this game doesn’t need it. In the story, characters are constantly coming and going, so the party system would just feel underutilized. And most of the time, it's just Clive and Torgal. People need to realize that the games story and atmosphere have a HUGE impact on what the gameplay is gonna be. This games combat truly understands the story, and it fits perfectly imo.
Yeah brought rather I pre-order it just playing few starting minutes of it, It was enough for me. I still owe it's physical delux edition but not yet completed the story, I don't know why I didn't do that yet though, Yeah is good but I still could not bring myself to finish it. Mind you I finished lot worse games but only this one I don't want to end, Just few days ago I put the disc in it and decided to play but could not able to as I just close the game in 5 minutes. I then played FF7 remake (It's free with subscription), And now that there would be FF7 rebrith (Already pre-order it) I decided to play FFXV (That I brought nearly year ago and yet to even open it(digital one). So what I think happing is gamer fatigue which is why people think this game suck, Which not the case.
From what I gather from the comments. Most of the fans of this game have not played any of the previous games. That should show you why the FF fanbase doesn’t mesh with this game. It isn’t a Final Fantasy game it is Devil May Cry in medieval times
@@lloydau3610 That is my biggest gripe. Final Fantasy is supposed to have an engaging plot. Im not salty that they changed the gameplay for the tik tok zoomers but I don’t understand why the story had to suffer too.
@@horrorpsycho0508 Yeah, it’s weird. The story has massive potential but I guess Square just didn’t want to fully commit to telling a complete story, maybe because of budget constraints, profit losses, I’m not sure.
And it's not even good combat. DMC has the best combat next to ninja gaiden, nioh,,, it is very complex and can be aslo overwhelming with its mechanics. Here you have one attack sequence: Square button until triangle until the end. Very dissatisfied
Being cinematic and good looking boss fights doesnt make a game good but it needs to be hard too with this kind of gameplay… and ff7 remake gameplay was better and at least has rpg sides like weakness and customize… a 4 party member with all unique playstyle. I have platinumed the game and buyed day one but ff16 its not a masterpiece… Imagine if ff17 has rebirth world and gameplay with a story that starts and finish with all those minigames ecc… thats what square enix has to go for bringing old and new fans to the franchise.
As much as I love FF 16, this game is unequal. Some parts are really good, maybe even exceptional, whereas others are mediocre. The weakest parts of the game are clearly: the exploration (how the world is constructed. Especially after playing FF 7 Rebirth. The towns in 16 are really bad compared to Rebirth. With the exception of Lostwing, the locations in 16 do not feel like real places), the side quests (in terms of story, they are really good. They made care about characters like Otto or Tarja. But in terms of interactivity, they are mediocre), the difficulty (Locking final fantasy mode in new game+ was a bad idea. It took me around 70 hours to finish the game, I am not willing to start over just for a higher difficulty), the lack of interactivity(Again, after playing Rebirth and seeing all the different ways you can interact with the world, 16 seems really lacking. My only guess is that they did not have the same budget as Rebirth), and the fact that you don't spend enough time with the supporting cast (unless you are one of the Rosfield brothers, you don't get a lot of character development. Even Jill suffers from this. And some characters like Cid and Benedikta are wasted way too early). Also, combat may be good despite being easy, but it is too simple and doesn't require any strategy, which can get repetitive really fast. In comparison, both God of War 2018 and Ragnarok have better combat systems. I made a lot of comparisons with FF7 Rebirth, but I prefer the tone and world of 16. If it wasn't for the many flaws the game 16 has (including the above), it would be better than both 7 Remake and Rebirth.
I finished rebirth and ai was sick of it by the end. Open world bloat galore. 16 is so amazing. Now even more so in comparison. And the graphics in 16!!! Dude!!! Especially on hdr tv
awfully weird how many of the people complaining about XVIs sidequests have absolutely no problem with VII: Rebirths truly awful sidequests. Yep. Sure is weird.
On the contrary, I’ve seen a lot of people complain about Rebirth’s side quests. But then again, Final Fantasy isn’t known for having the best side quests
To preface, I only experienced FF16 through playthroughs, so my only real criticism is story based. My biggest criticism is that the game tried to do too much and ultimately suffered because of it. It tried to do political intrigue with warring nations and schemes, but couldn't dive in fully because it had to setup for the deeper fantasy lore with Ultima. It tried to introduce an ancient race of technologically advanced people with all these weird remnants of their society, but couldn't really spare the time to actually explore it because there's not enough time. We saw the Empire and from what I remember, we don't really explore the capital, just the surrounding villages and outposts. And pop goes their Mothercrystal. All of a sudden the Empire is in shambles and it kinda doesn't matter. Their takeover of that one city to be the new capital kinda doesn't matter cause we never established why we should care for these two places. Sure we care about those villages and that one Empire town with the brothel, but not the actual capital itself. This extends to literally every major nation, leaving us pretty disconnected besides a few towns. Ultimately, I believe this game should have been 2 games OR one of the 2 major plot points be downgraded to a supporting plot element. Those major plot points being the Game of Thrones esque politics with warring nations, and the deeper fantasy elements with Ultima, the Blight, and the ruined civilization. First game should have focused more on the warring nations while sprinkling hints and mysteries about Ultima, the Blight, and the true nature of the Mothercrystals. It should focus more on worldbuilding and making us care for the different nations and their issues, so that when the second game comes and all hell breaks loose we care for actually saving Valisthea. The ending could be either Titan Lost or the destruction of the Empire's mothercrystal with Cid's death. Second game should ease us into the world again by dealing with politics, but should slowly pivot to more of the fantasy elements with Ultima. Waloed, the orcs, and Barnabas should play a bigger role in this sequel as antagonists. Leviathan should actually be part of the story, whatever form that should be. Then by the 50% mark, all hell breaks lose with the whole Bahamut fight and we transition from warring nations to Ultima's master plan (cause at this point most of the dominants are gone, and the nations are ruined). Then the story concludes from there, whether it ends happy or bittersweet, I don't mind either way. There you go, a basic rough outline of why I think FF16 is rather disappointing and how I think it should have been handled.
I agree with most of your arguments but don't you forget something ? In the main story you have f***in side quests, when Mid asks you to do her commissions ! You can't skip and it's boring. But not only that, all the story quests with secondary characters are just here to fulfill the game and not very interesting. And it's frustrating when you actually love the story, the designs...and the OST, oh brother I listen to it almost every day

I feel that 100%. I did everything the game has to offer and I enjoyed it, but it was very very long
I also agreed.. I’d played with a family member and spent about a hundred hours with all the boss and side quest done, but I find it all enjoyable

Some people fail and forget to put themselves in the shoes of the characters.
Nah. Game incredible.
@@kingnero8583 I said the game was great. Did you read?
Then years later they'll comeback saying how it was mistreated it is
I don’t personally hate FF16 but it does have a lot of flaws. Not a bad game by any means just not for me
@@Jackjackalex understandable

@@hotcoldman77 People long for that asura's wrath spectacle.
Jill reasons."
I say all this having recently 100% the game.
Jill did not get sidelined, this isn’t a love story she got the appropriate amount of time, the story was about Clive and Joshua. I love Jill though
@@tepandflash5950 I honestly was still satisfied with her storyline. Kind of tragic love story, but the moments she does get to shine I loved it. I am kind of a sucker for Shiva and rapiers though so they had me at hello on that one.

@@HiCZoKbs. XVI defenders are desperate for anything to justify their awful game.
One of my biggest gripes is that the eikon combo you'll use for trash mobs isn't the same as the one for bosses, and because you can't change on the fly you're often stuck with the wrong eikons,
I have found many fun builds that work for both, an “all-in-one” kind of build. If you’d like I can share them!
@@TheFlipsideShow Would love to try those out! I'm definitely getting the Leviathan DLC.

This game was unfairly compared to FF7R. Some places even gave absurdly low scores for topical reasons. I liked the lack of minigames so I can focus on the story and combat, not being forced to do quicktime events and slow pacing every 15 minutes.
There are legitimate nitpicks, and maybe they could have more playable NPCs, but all in all it was a fine entry to the series.
This will age like XIII where the critics pan it, and now people are remembering it fondly.
Lol, who remembers XIII fondly? First time I hear about it XD

Even FF15, being the unfinished mess that it is, is better regarded than FF13. Who told you It's "remembered fondly"? According to who? And where? If that game were released today for the first time it would review horribly, no final fantasy game before or since has been as bare bones and restrictive as 13 was.
“brisk pace” the game has the worst pacing i’ve ever seen, including in the main quests

here after FF7 Rebirth, base on the sales numbers and the views on twitch - youtube, the interest in FF7 are low in comparison to FF16, and not only that to see such a dip from FF7R P1 to FF7R P2 in player counts, can tell you one thing that a lot of people don't like FF7R...
FF16 got a lot of hate for youtubers who do JRPG contents and made it into something, but it was loud minorty like skillup - mattyplays and other JRPG nerds...
the majority of people like action games that is fact...
Because some that picked up ff7rebirth didnt play remake.. i think its hard to enjoy the story if ur like starting from the middle..
On the long run, after 4-5 years, rebirth sales will be higher than 16
Easily in my top favorite games so suprised me seeing how many people were harshly criticizing it or ranking it really low compared to other FF games. I can see some aspects that could be improved but nothing in it ever stopped me from loving the experience. I really hope we get more games like it
Please no, that would be awful and disappointing
I don't. I hope we get an actual RPG next time.
This games story is breath taking
My only two problems. Titan fight was way too long
It was annoying to talk to someone, to walk 10 feet just to get into another conversation. Just streamline the dialogue
it's cinematic fight it's must be long and have plot twist what you mean so long. as i remember bahamut and ultima was longer
@Bader-ey2gj I've since played it again, problem was I sucked at titan at first lol
Well said.
Holy! well said!
How can you be so objectively wrong?!

People can’t complain about the sidequests when you actually have a 40 hours amazing main story..
But here's the thing the 40 hours story is boring as heck.

@@alenezi989a3if that was boring then what isn't boring for you?
Yes and 30h of these 40h are spent while watching cut-scenes
For as much as I loved my time with FF16, I can't deny that I do relate to the critiques presented (some of it is over-inflated but regardless)
For one, the side quests.
BRO YOU ARE ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED RUclipsRS I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS!!!!!!!!!!
That’s it.
@@user-fr5hs4vj4d “stop stroking this game” bro I didn’t say one positive thing about it who are you even talking to? 🤣
It's baffling to me that there are people who don't find this game boring.
I would love to get a full eikon swap mode with elemental scaling on enemies as a more technical mode, would never get old
Which one do you like more?

Still was worth the mones, but I did pinpoint what bothered me about it:
1.) Combat was absolutely a highlight for this entry, but I do think it requires a lot of patience to really get to the point where you can truly have fun with a diverse set of skills.

??? The boss fights in this game are second to none
They are boring overly long cutscenes. I'm replaying FFX now and the bosses are 10000x better than whatever the garbage 16 was. In X, the bosses are challenging and you have to use your brains to overcome them.

I thought the last Odin fight was underwhelming. I was expecting an eikon vs. eikon masterpiece like with Titan and bahmut going blow for blow, and all I got was a dodging simulator
The whole game was underwhelming
@@sparemobius7430 based off the main FF16 game I highly doubt the DLC was challenging at all.

Everything seems secondary to the story... it's a great story, decent fighting and not much else from a gameplay perspective... imho
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 you took the words ot of my mouth! Definitely one of the best games I’ve played in my life… and I’ve played many!
6 months later I find this vid and this channel. You hit all the perfect points here man. Lots of people just miss the beauty of XVI
This is easily my favorite ff game of all time it’s so much fun the boss fights are amazing the music is godly, this was my goty for 2023
What FF games have you played before this one?
@@olegtz 7,14 and which game had noctis in it
@@Ui_Raizen lol your opinion is irrelevant after disclosing that.
@@TheRogBG how I plan on playing the rest eventually
@@Ui_Raizen sure you do because you've been doing such a great job so far
My only rebuttal to the conbat is good. It just really really needs to expand for those more familiar with DMC. 6 abilites is super constrained compared to what you can do in that game. I dont want to make a build. i want to use all of the abilities ( or at least 75% of them ) during the same fight. Dont say it's overwhelming until you try to master Dante ( he has so so many moves)
Facts that what I’m saying. I was disappointed in the combat.
Plus... I mean come on... BEST Ifrit we've ever seen....right?
@@mtmanaoki wanna see how theyd design anima
@@olegtzyet it plays like if dmc was fun
@@Astreon123 Lol
@@Astreon123 Maybe DMC is not fun for you because performing combos is difficult. In FF16 you just press buttons and combos happen.
Don't insult God of War like that hahahaha!
I agree, FF16 was pure garbage and an insult to the series.
This is the best ff16 review ever
This definitely isn’t a game for traditional ff fans. The DMC style gameplay is great but the story still kinda sucks overall lol.
@@GottEddy There's a lot of cool combos you can pull off in ff 16 that isnt just pressing two buttons
Being cinematic and good looking boss fights doesnt make a game good but it needs to be hard too with this kind of gameplay… and ff7 remake gameplay was better and at least has rpg sides like weakness and customize… a 4 party member with all unique playstyle.
I have platinumed the game and buyed day one but ff16 its not a masterpiece…
Imagine if ff17 has rebirth world and gameplay with a story that starts and finish with all those minigames ecc… thats what square enix has to go for bringing old and new fans to the franchise.
Hey, yoshi p cultists how did you feel when turn based game baldurs gate 3 won game of the year?
Totally fine, that game was the fuckin' goat last year 🙏
There's also Atlus's turn-based titles selling pretty well too, which are great games.
They can say whatever they want is GoTY for me FF16 is gonna be my GoTY this year without a doubt…IDC what other people say is GoTY for them lol.
game is so fire anybody who dislikes it is just miserable tbh
People are allowed to dislike the game. I’m sure there are tons of people who hate my favorite game (RDR2) but they are entitled to their opinion
I finished rebirth and ai was sick of it by the end. Open world bloat galore. 16 is so amazing. Now even more so in comparison. And the graphics in 16!!! Dude!!! Especially on hdr tv
@jumbee1830 Anyone who defends XVI is just lying to themselves.
awfully weird how many of the people complaining about XVIs sidequests have absolutely no problem with VII: Rebirths truly awful sidequests.
Yep. Sure is weird.
On the contrary, I’ve seen a lot of people complain about Rebirth’s side quests. But then again, Final Fantasy isn’t known for having the best side quests
It's because FF7:Rebirth has lots more personality to it and the characters are interesting and quirky
Because FF7 rebirth characters are real characters and not cardboard cutouts pretending to be characters.
@@Disastra because VIIR's sidequests reward you with more than 5 gil, and develop the personalities of the rest of the party?
best game ive played yet
And it's frustrating when you actually love the story, the designs...and the OST, oh brother I listen to it almost every day
This video inspired me to restart the game again. Definitely helped me realize I’m missing out! Thanks for this!
Thank you.
