Terminator is an American media franchise created by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd. The franchise encompasses a series of science fiction action films, comics, novels and additional media, concerning a total war between Skynet's synthetic intelligence - a self-aware military machine network - and John Connor's Resistance forces comprising the survivors of the human race. Skynet's most famous products in its genocidal goals are the various terminator models, such as the T-800, who was portrayed by Arnold Schwarzenegger from the original Terminator film in 1984. Cameron should do what TERMINATOR SALVATION couldn't and explore the world of the humans vs. machines in the future war. That way, he can focus on new stories and adventures and Arnold's Terminator doesn't need to appear. His "future war" sequences in Terminator 1 and 2 still give me chills!
Cameron is the only filmmaker who could stand a chance of reinvigorating The Terminator franchise. Even still, I won’t be holding my breath given how long his projects take

If Cameron has full control (not just producing credit) over the next Terminator, that is the only way I would be interested in it. I hope he sees it through because it will rock. Anyone who questions his ability to make a hit film at this point is just ignorant and should not be taken seriously.

He had full control over Dark Fate. Honestly, there is no more important person than the one who gives money to make a movie. He just focused on Avatar, that's why he was not a director of Dark Fate. Tim Miller was forced to listen to whatever Cameron said, that's why John Connor dies in a first few mins, that's why Arnold is back, that's why Skynet is replaced by Legion -> all of that were Cameron's ideas, he had full control.
Please bring Edward Furlong this time.
Any new Terminator movie should NOT be an action movie. With the AI narrative angle, it should provide a foundation for a hyper tense thriller. Perhaps in documentary narrative style, showing how the AI race goes awry.

They moved forward into judgement day than keeping sending robots back in time (stuff we seen in three movies so far)

Hell no. I guess many hardcore Terminator fans could bring back Terminator, but sadly James Cameron won't pay for such movie.
For example: Terminator Resistance (game) was the best third part for a Terminator.
John Connor better still be relevant and important. Idk what he means more about the AI, Skynet IS an Ai, that controls the robots. So it was always about the AI. Maybe he means involve Skynet more front and center over it's army.
Probably he means that he would make use of the current IRL fear of AI more in the script. To make make it more relevant. And make it more thought-provoking, so audiences see direct links into what is happening IRL. Like, what kind of technological steps led humanity into creation of Skynet, how Skynet behaved first when it wasn't dangerous yet etc.
SALVATION was really good, I enjoyed it.
If he's directing I'd be all in....
I believe that TSalvation is a good movie but very underrated. It took the first three stories and made them canon in what I think, it's a good prologue BEFORE the war against the machines. They didn't make John the leader overnight, he started as some kind of mith until his leadership begins take form. The franchise could've evolved in something bigger than the three plots we saw before but they kept rumbling in the same story that most fans have seen already. The Terminator franchise are about the the terminators and the war
It might work if he directs. If he's just writing, I don't have high hopes, he wrote Rambo 2 too, which isn't high art. A bad director and lazy actors can still fuck up a good script. Cameron forces actors to give their best like nobody else, he re-shoots the same scenes until everything is perfect.
After watching the Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles, I think James Cameron could actually Avengers: Endgame the franchise to bring closure to the movies and TV show. But that makes too much sense, so of course we can't have that. Lol
this franchise is pretty much just like "home alone" or "free willy." Every film is pretty much the same thing. They should have stopped with terminator 2.
Just do an on Alternate version of Terminator 3 and bring back Eddie Furlong
The only reason the franchise is dead is because he wasn’t writing and directing them since T2 which is still one of the best films of all time. Arguably THE best imo. Considering we are actually in a state of people working with and against machines I’d say it’s relevant. Leave out the woke trash and the money will be made.
I think Terminator would make a great animated series. I'm a huge fan of traditional animation and properties like Alien Predator and Terminator would be so cool to see animated
I loved The Sarah Connor Chronicles TV show and I met Summer Glau almost 6 months ago. An animated series of Terminator which could take place in the future depicting the war behind Skynet and the Resistance could actually work.

Dying franchises can be positively reinvented (ex: Rocky and Creed). Also, well-executed good stories can succeed tremendously regardless of genre. In my view, Terminator is no exception. I do love Arnold. I have always been a fan, but I think he should no longer be in Terminator movies, as, to me, he's better suited for comedies or dramas at present time. He no longer has that aura of super athletic, menacing alpha male that I feel is required for playing a terminator. However, I just saw him on Netflix in Fubar, and I found him and his show absolutely fantastic. That is the type of stuff that is perfect for him today.
I think it would be another hit, provided that Cameron actually gave it his undevided attention. That said, he likely sees something in the Terminator franchise that supports his beliefs, environmental concerns, and the messages he's devoted to spreading. AI has become a real conversation, and I'm sure he has something to say about it.
After watching Terminator-Genisys, I was lying on the floor in the shower in the fetal position feeling mentally and physically violated.
I don't think I'm emotionally ready for another Terminator film yet.
Cameron shouldn't have stepped away from the franchise after T2. People just got tired of seeing mediocre Terminator movies thats why Dark Fate bombed.

For years, I've always wanted to see Terminator "Future War", where we see Kyle Reese fighting the machines in a brutal war of survival. However, the franchise has been so abused, it may be too late to reinvigorate it.
But hell... It's James Cameron. The guy knows how to make action movies that get people in theaters.
Just make a action-heavy future war movie that we all wanted to see since T1/T2. We don't want some present day AI story. No one wants to watch a movie about something were already living in.
What the past 4 sequels lacked is James Cameron's name on it as director. If he reboots or refreshes the franchise himself he'll likely go in a very different direction with it instead of doing yet another retread of the T1 formula, and people will show up to see it. I just hope he doesn't limit himself to "four quadrant" blockbuster appeal so that the series can maintain its R-rating. He's been stuck in PG-13 land for the past 20 years. It would be nice to see him a little more unshackled. Apparently he swears like a sailor IRL.

If he wants to do a movie about AI then that's great, but don't connect it to the Terminator universe. It's a tired and utterly drained IP which doesn't have the positive brand recognition that it used to. In fact, it may actually damage the project by association.
The critic rating for Dark Fat is totally fabricated, it was the weakest.

genesys was better than dark fate. The best sequel was 3 but it was not quite there, they could have easily made it a lot better, but you HAVE to start with a compelling script.

If James Cameron waits until he sees how AI turns out, we don't have to worry about Avatars 3-5. The development of AI will take years or decades. The Avatar movies will be long finished by then. And from his remarks, I think he's clearly not working on a Terminator script right now, and not just because of the writer's strike.

What if they took the franchise in a bit of a different direction by making the next Terminator something like a contained thriller? Like having a lab with a bunch of scientists in it that’s run by an AI program, it goes crazy, locks them inside, does all sorts of thing to the building to try and kill them like raise and lower the temperature to try and overheat/freeze them, override some of the devices so that when the humans try and use them to escape they malfunction and end up hurting them, like when one of them is trying to crawl through the air ducts the AI makes it spray so much of the emergency extinguisher throughout it that it ends up suffocating and killing them? And this time the movie doesn’t have to be about the Terminator trying to kill a specific person to change the future, it’s just about a group of people in the future trying to survive this Terminator-like program, that’s what I want this franchise to do, go in a direction beyond just creating another Skynet that they have to stop, try actually telling a smaller story within the franchise for a change, because although it may sound like a stupid thing for a Terminator movie to do it might actually work
The Terminator, T2, and Dark Fate is a great trilogy, and Cameron Canon 😝😝 though I actually like Salvation most of all the other sequels. T3 was fine. And I don’t care what anyone says, I absolutely love the 1st hour of Genisys 😁

Yep I’m with you! Well as of now the offical canon is 1,2 and Dark Fate. When I watch 1 & 2 I have to finish it with Dark Fate…I kinda wish we got the other two sequels though

The only way people will see this is if they change it up, instead of a musclebound Terminator like Arnold give us a Terminator that's athletic, good agility, maybe good at acrobatics and have the villain either be T - infinity or maybe an original villain created for the movie. And instead a gun give us a Terminator that uses a sword/swords or something.

a big reason this doesn't work is with so many sequels the terminators invading now just feels like an everyday mundane thing. I think you can get away with that with a freddy or jason kind of movie but not with this type of film.

A Terminator movie that’s more of what Andor is to Star Wars, could explain origins of the AI that was skynet, and then a IRobot like story backdrop, like everything happening to a malfunctioning most likely from a T1000s unpredictability would be nice. Dark Fate turned out better than I thought it would, but it hasn’t really rekindled my interest in the franchise. I can’t see myself going to the theater again to watch a new installment in this franchise. It’s dead. Time to move onto something new. I actually would’ve rather they had continued with what they started in Genisys. I liked their bold choices.
the terminator franchise has been rebooted 3 times and failed 3 times. i feel like they need to just deliver on what the fans of the franchise want to see instead of trying to appease people that dont care about terminator. i can only speak for myself but at this point i want to see the conclusion of the series, id like to see the actual future war that was teased in t1 and t2. the video game terminator resistance pretty much captures exactly what im talking about

I love all the Terminator films for what they are. Not equally. But I still love them. I'd be down for more, especially if he's writing and he thinks he's got something fresh to bring to the franchise. It's an unkillable IP, IMO. It will never die.
I've always enjoyed the Terminator franchise, yes even Salvation (it had potential). In the age we live in where people bitch about every god-damn thing, now we don't have one.
Salvation was the only one that tried to move the franchise forward to tell the story of events after judgement day and what happened at the beginning of the war instead of trying to poorly recycle Sarah Connor's and the T-800's glory days. Sure they could have done a better job and had heaps of potential, but it's a criminally underrated idea - the dystopian future of the war post judgement day and how John Connor came to be the commander of the resistance forces.
